Banks do not finance countries with smaller budgets yet bigger population like yours.

Fighter Pilot: Nigeria can never challenge SA in a battle. We are more equipped than Nigeria and that is a fact. Nigeria uses old equipments which were either decommissioned or second hand material.
old and second hand equipment like Cobra, VBL, BTR-3U, ATR-42 Surveyor, PL-9C missiles, Bofors Artillery, Sandcat MRAP, Stealth warships Type 056, Shaldag super gun boats, spy satellites, spy balloons, Mi-35 Hind....Lol !!!

Retaliation would've leaved the Nigeria navy without much needed vessels.

If threats are ever made against SA the frigates would be armed with cruise missiles and the gun will be replaced. For the past decade or so the SANDF has purchasing weapons that seem defensive.
If south africa buys more weapons with your usual bank loans, what do you think nigeria will buy ? potatoes and eggs ?

Yes, Kabila drove to Goma about two or one month ago in a light toyota land cruiser. LOL it even got stuck at along the way, many Rwandan journalists made fun for the situation which was captured on camera. Photos of the stuck vehicle in pool dirty water+mud were spread on Twitter...........The car was hit by a rocket, even a MRAP wouldn't have survived. I don't think he would've accepted to drive around in a MRAP by way,Mamadou Ndala was always with his men exposed to the dangers they were exposed to too.
did Kabila have only 3 men as escorts too ?

if so, then all Congolese are fools. no wonder tiny Rwanda is oppressing them . Lol !!!

Retaliation would've leaved the Nigeria navy without much needed vessels. Cause we clearly don't know whether that ship was escorted by a submarine or what. In open sea the Nigerian navy can't defeated the South Africans'. They clearly can't fight evasive submarines plus stealth frigates. Speaking about navies I think it is safe to say the South African navy or the SANDF is in a defensive position. If threats are ever made against SA the frigates would be armed with cruise missiles and the gun will be replaced. For the past decade or so the SANDF has purchasing weapons that seem defensive.
Nigeria has anti-submarine warships and helicopters (Lynx now being upgraded).

Nigeria has Aradu with Otomat missiles, stealth warships are NOT invisible, they only look smaller, but nigerian ATR-42 mighty Surveyor aircraft will fish them out like sardines in the water enter a fisherman's net.

Nigerian air force jet fighters will sink all south african stealth warships because you have no air cover 5,000 km away from home.

nigeria does not even need ship to ship combat in ivory coast. our air power is more than enough. your submarines will run out of fuel if they submerge for more than 48 hours, and your naval base for refueling is 5,000 km away at home.

diesel submarines like yours have very very short range when submerged, and when they surface or snorkel, enemy aircraft will attack and destroy them very easily because submarines have no defence against enemy aircraft.

west africa is too far away from southern africa, your submarine is a ZERO threat to nigeria. sorry o !

Henry120: This is why the widespread use of pick-up trucks by all armies in africa, south-east asia and south-america is risky business.

RIP to the commander and his fallen comrades.

Although pick-ups provide speed, manoeuvrability and ease of use, they provide no protection whatsoever. Infact troops sitting in them are mere ducks for target practice.

That is why in my opinion, without sentiments, the nigerian made "leopard ACB", combat support vehicle should be the vehicle of choice for all african armies.

beegeagle./2013/07/17/proforce-pf2-leopard-armoured-combat-vehicle-crafted-with-pride-in-the-federal-republic-of-nigeria-world-exclusive-photos/

Unlike the south-african GILA or casspir, the leopard ACB provides the speed, versatility and manoeuvrability of the pick-ups and enough protection against GPMG's and HE grenades at a cost-effective rate.

It is a vehicle in the class of the panhad VBL series, otokar cobra and should naturally replace the pick-up trucks in service of most african armies, whether in nigeria- south-africa - DRC or south-sudan. It is something african militaries should take advantage of. That video is heart-wrenching.

does Congo DRC president drive around in light skinned vehicles ?

african leaders just can be so selfish.

with all their diamonds, the second richest country in africa cannot buy one single MRAP for their hero to move around safely.

even madam Odua has 2 armoured cars worth =N= 240 million to cruise around in abuja (no be me talk am o !)

may we not be used as cannon fodder by our african leaders. i weep for my continent, black man na waah o !

so sad he died. a fallen hero.

he made a costly mistake. weak escort men/numbers. weak vehicle armour protection. poor judgement.

under-estimating the enemy's resolve to revenge.

his movement information was leaked to enemy....by who ?

could be insider job/assasination.

kabila himself can eliminate a potential future rival to keep himself in power. abacha system.

in war, you need only one mistake to die. no second chance. thats what i tell south africans who think you can always come back to correct battle field errors after the enemy has fired his weapon into your head

Nigerian artillery compared to South Africa's is a joke, the only guns which would be considered a threat is the FH-77.But this would be easily destroyed by the G6 which Nigeria doesn't a answer to.
our Bofors FH-77 has the same range and sophistication as your G6 artillery, and our Palmaria is a match for your G6 in most aspects.

Nigeria has 5 times more firepower support from our other 500 artillery guns. We go just roast your army like barbecue. Lol !!!

Nigeria has old soviet era howitzer like the D-30 to count make up that 660 numbers, with a small number of modern 155mm howitzers and 120mm mortars(which is considered artillery by many). South Africa has a lot of howitzers in reserve like the Israeli G4 howitzer. T

he South African army had to replace many the barrels of the G5 after the cuito battle. Any 155mm howitzer that fires shells at a sustained rate in its maximum range will have barrels problems within 2 to 6 months.
listen dude, artillery gun barrel life span is not counted by months, it is counted by number of shells fired. many modern guns can fire 2,000 artillery shells before the barrel wears out for replacement.

Nigeria has 48 modern Bofors and 49 modern Palmaria, about 100 modern artillery guns, plus about 560 older guns, we have about 660 artillery guns.

South Africa has 75 modern G5 and 46 modern G6, but that is all, you have about 120 artillery guns.

In an artillery exchange of fire, Nigeria has 5 times the firepower of South Africa, and artillery battle is all about firepower, out-gun your enemy.

Nigeria will fire so much that South Africa will run, because we can do shower shells on you like say na rain dey fall o !

That ranking is not based on fighting capabilities and what might happen if war broke out between countries on the list. It is based on troop numbers and equipment. Here are the few factors we should consider when ranking how strong a country is: 1.Technology 2. Politics 3. Defence industry 4. Economy 5. History(experience).
Ranking is based on equipment, manpower, war history/battlefield experience/combat records, and economy/finance.

Ethiopia is better than South Africa in all those points except economy/finance, but they have a big defence budget to focus on army and air force because they have no navy. South African navy had to borrow money from a bank to buy submarines, your navy alone is eating up your defence budget really bad.

that is where Ethiopia saves money and spends on its huge army with thousands of anti-tank guided missiles.

South Africa wont last long fighting Ethiopia, they will wipe out your armoured vehicles and surround your tiny army within some days.

the weak point of South African military is that your tiny, inexperienced, fat, over-paid, illiterate, and cowardly army that has never won any war

Spoke with many military analysts and spotters. They're all saying it is a Spanish rumour, cause Angola needs patrol vessels than a aircraft carrier. Like one man said "without vessels to protect it a South African submarine can sink it easily, without any difficulties".
we hear its a rumour, but angola has reputation for buying crazy weapons like ballistic Scud missiles.

i suspect the angola government may be doing its usual stuff...buy weapons they dont need, inflates the price, steal oil money in the deal.

typical african people.

Fighter Pilot: We respect regional organisations and cannot act against their decision, same as when ECOWAS demanded that our warship should back off from Ivory Coast.
You should have waited there and let NNS Thunder strike your soweto warship.

The only powerful navy in ECOWAS is nigeria's and that is what south africa was truly afraid of in Ivory Coast.

Fighter Pilot: South Africa never ran back home from CAR, it was a decision which was taken by an extraordinary summit of central African states (ECCAS) held at Chad that SA troops should be withdrawn from CAR. Our president was ready to reinfonce SA troops in CAR by deploying over 2000 soldiers. We will never run away, but we will fight your soldiers until they raise a white flag like what SELEKA has done.
now this is real comedy.

the Seleka that was said to have 'raised white flag in surrender' is the one ruling and controlling the land in C.A.R, while the South African army that claims to have won the battle is the one sleeping in Soweto township with their wives under a blanket at home !

LOL !!!

Fighter Pilot: Gulma is not a killer drone and it remains harmless.

Ethiopia, does not worry about other things such as education, infrastructure, Health, Social services, etc. They compromise large portion of their budget on military.
99% of the drones all over the world are not killer drones. Lol !!!

killer drones are only useful against the likes of terrorists and local rebels that have no anti-aircraft defenses. even boko haram will shoot down a killer drone if it flies low to attack them. Kenya will shoot down 100 killer drones if you try it on their army.

Ethiopia 'wastes' money on defense same way south africa wastes money on defense to the point of buying submarines with bank loan.

better go repay the debt before bank manager auctions your submarine in the world market due to loan repayment defaults. Lol !!!

Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by agaugust:
Fighter Pilot: You know well that Nigeria is not the second most powerful military in Africa.

Factors which makes Nigeria not to become the second most powerful military in Africa.

1. Budget
2. Large force which is poorly equipped
3. Low morale as a result of poor salaries and benefits. No soldier can risk to die if his family stand to gain nothing.
4. Limited firepower
5. Poor defence industry.

With all of the above un-addressed, Nigeria cannot claim to be the second most powerful military in Africa.
Factors which make South Africa to become the 5th most powerful military in Africa.

1. Budget spent mostly on soldiers fat monthly salary (Submarines purchased on credit with bank loans)
2. Large scale manpower shortage, the forces cannot handle modern equipment effectively (Only 6 qualified Gripen jet pilots to fly 26 Gripen jets)
3. Low fighting spirit and determination to sacrifice their lives in war due to fat monthly salary, they want to enjoy life with their family.
4. Limited firepower (Only 46 G6 Rhino artillery, only 25 missiles for 26 Gripen jets, only 17 Exocet missiles instead of the standard 32 missiles)
5. Poor independence of defense industry, DENEL weapons depend on European Jets, Ships, and Vehicles to launch its missiles and bombs.

With all the above not addressed, South Africa remains the 5th most powerful military in africa but sharing the same 5th position with Sudan, Uganda and Morocco.

Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by agaugust:
Mike..ZA:
Nigeria is not strong.

Without a strong defence industry to back it,even getting or fixing a 155mm barrel would be tough. Cause when they tend to over heat and "self-damaged" in high heat combat. When they're firing at a sustained rate for too long at the maximum distance.
Nigeria is more than what you know. Nigerdock Shipbuilding Yard in Lagos is also fully equipped to repair Artillery guns, you didnt know that, I posted that here months ago.

Before there is need to replace an artillery gun barrel, a few thousands of shells would have been fired over a period time from one single barrel.

By the time Nigeria needs to replace or repair barrels of our 660 artillery guns at Nigerdock, South African army would have been deleted with about 1 million shells fired on your tiny 50,000 man army of glorified ANC bushmen hunters

Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by agaugust: 6:57am On Jan 03, 2014
Mike..ZA:
Nigeria is not strong.1. If a military can't treat its wounded soldiers and relies on outside for that we call it weak. Cause soldiers with small wounds from shrapnel would die in a full blown war. 2. Without a strong defence industry to back it,even getting or fixing a 155mm barrel would be tough. Cause when they tend to over heat and "self-damaged" in high heat combat. When they're firing at a sustained rate for too long at the maximum distance.
Ethiopia has a much smaller and less advanced defence industry compared to Nigeria, yet Ethiopia is ranked above South Africa in military power

Did you see the new made in Nigeria Gulma drone ? It is world class for its category/type.
