On a advisory note, jamb should liase with ALPHABET INC or MICROSOFT. I am sure those ones would be willing to give helpful tips on how to handle huge datas that require realtime processing.

One, infrastructure. The most vulnerable time when for CBTs is login. It is often best to stagger the time examinees login. If all users login at the same time the server will be overloaded resulting in the errors the op faced. Either stagger the login or size the server to cope with the maximal load. The problem with sizing for maximal load is that you purchase a very expensive server that will only be tasked for 5-10mins. That's like using a sledgehammer to kill a fly.

Two, loading data. Most questions are loaded into the database using csv or some other file format. I suspect in this case they might have attempted to to load ALL the questions and answers for ALL the subjects in one go. That's a recipe for disaster especially if the server has been undersized. A better option will be to load per subject, test and verify before loading another subject.

CBTs can be complicated sha.

Now Wikipedia receives content freely from contributors like linux distros like Kubuntu receive code to improve upon versions of the operating system free from the community which after "curating" will include in subsequent releases if they so wish. Wikipedia operates the same way with their content.
The WikipEdia model clearly disrupted Encarta's model just as Uber's taxi model is causing major disruptions in the traditional cab model (remember the French cabbie protests from last yr?).
Ever seen those highly technical wikis on topics like say engineering or science? You think hippies gave Wikipedia that content? They came from experts in that particular field and were given free for the sake of spreading knowledge and not for money. That's what got Encarta discontinued and that's the point my argument made.

Forkadict, I don't think Aphrodite4 compared apples and oranges. Both companies manufacturer the similar product and what she has compared those products. As both are IT companies I also think thoe comparison was apt. Cross reference whatsapp and BlackBerry. I'm with you on this money ish. Were I work I'm practically on shift 24/7. I've been woken up in the dead of the night to resolve an issue. I've been at the airport seeing my parents off while on a 4 hour call resolving an issue.(my mum, bless her soul, was compelled to drag the phone from my ears and terminate the calls). I've been under the highest pressure of my life with emails flying from Zurich to the US that my operations were delaying a multinational from meeting their monthly target. So yes I have got some of the most brutal experience but no shish. That money IS imporrant
