deomelo:Good video. But you need to understand the meaning of "Political Will". Political will could be as much as a single head of government as well as an entire population of a country. And more so she can't be delving into national political in-fighting about the fund while addressing from an international platform. But we Nigerians understand what she meant by lack of political will. In that case, it was the collective will of the political class. The result depends on which is stronger. The people's will or that of the ruling class and its governing units? The people will naturally is supposed to shape and direct national political will but in Nigeria it doesn't because of the reckless and deceitful political class. |
TheGoodJoe:In fact the fears of the governors then was the recklessness of the federal government knowing fully well that if they did not share the funds nothing will be left. The governors complained that after each FEC meeting that the amount in the account kept going down without credible explanation. So that was the reason they requested that it be shared. In fact it was Oshiomole and Amaechi who were crying loud the most then. |
Mariangeles:I understand you. You will rather have Jonathan incompetence simply because he had a lot of access to cash due to high oil price while he was there, and which he and his cohorts threw around then. It's like living a lie because the economic boom you guys keep pointing to wasn't a boom but rather an oil revenue boom which created a false impression that everything was well because there was lot of illicit cash been thrown around. And now that the party is over Nigerians are shouting recession. Nigeria has been in recession for a long time, even post Yaradua-jonathan. It started with Austerity Measures (early 80s) and Structural Adjustment Programme (mid 80s to 90s). The higher oil price at different periods was the only thing providing a cushion. And how much of this funds end up in the pocket of the common man? Even Okonjo-Iweala was shouting to high heavens since late 2013 that Nigerians should brace themselves for the coming hard time. |
gypsey:Actually "stubborn goats" are every where. Few weeks ago I could remember making a sign from a distance to a guy at a gas station here in Texas about use of his phone. He simply ignored me, meanwhile a sign is up there showing this shouldn't be done. |

Yes, static discharge from you to your phone. Same way you are advised against opening your car door when filling your vehicle gas tank to avoid static discharge. Obviously Nigerians are not safety conscious. If people can go near ruptured pipeline to scoop fuel that says a lot about safety culture. Or where container from container trucks fall on vehicles very often. It says a lot. |
joepentwo:Do you know what is called "chance" in life. Because you did it and nothing happened last time does not mean it won't happen another time. Situations that influence static discharge from mobile phones will surely vary for different cobditions. |
joepentwo:You can easily put this to test yourself. When next you are at the gas station place a call on your mobile phone while discharging fuel. Please see example of such an accident on YouTube. Be careful of all suspect scientific studies that are often funded by industry funded lobbyist. But give the test a try and come back here to educate us on the result. About the Nigerian police, may be another avenue for extortion. But in a country of people that are largely indiscipline I will rather have the police extort a "stubborn goat" than have multiple people killed or injured and millions of property lost. Ordinary static discharge from your body in an environment filled with gaseous flammable can cause fire. Gas stations here in the United States carries signs that advised against use of cell phones in gas stations. Those signs are not there for nothing. |
thesicilian:Electrostatic discharge from mobile phones could ignite naked fuel. I believe there are signs that indicate this as a potential hazard at petrol stations. If you want to see outcome of refusing to obey this particular rule, search on youtube using the right keywords. I saw one on Youtube and since then I have stopped using my mobile at gas stations. You can also see warnings in your mobile phone manufacturers Users handbook. |
Check the records of this lawyer named Ozekhome. He should be the lawyer with highest number of clients with corruption cases hanging on their neck. So he need to be making noise and false claims to ensure continouse source of income. |
ozohtony:Has Nigeria been a great country at a point in the past? It always has the potential and has never attained greatness. One could claim that Nigeria has great people and culture but collectively as a nation, answer is No. |
schwarzkopf:Not just that. Go on YouTube to see the plight of black jews in Israel and how they are mistreated in the same country and people that claimed they were persecuted. |
Teenaira:The illegal refineries you referred to are not your typical modular refinery. They are not truly a refinery in the sense of the word. Try what they refined in your car and your engine is done. They are an environmental disaster. |
Jlow2:What about former finance minister Okonjo Iweala warning in 2014 that Nigerians should get ready for tough years ahead. I guess Jonathan put you all to sleep then. Or you all think she was joking then. And crude oil was just above $75 when she said that. Read it here: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.premiumtimesng.com/business/171145-brace-tougher-times-ahead-okonjo-iweala-tells-nigerians.html/amp&ved=0ahUKEwj9hurA_6fYAhVF6SYKHdfzCGwQFggqMAM&usg=AOvVaw3V05OXUnRLeK1GGZ6PaYVy&cf=1 |
Sirjamo:Nice post. Obviously a bulk of Nigerians do not know how bad the country situation has got. They are expecting some magic to turn around the ills of several decades of neglect and corruption within just 2 years, and in mono-economy that depend only on oil export. These people ain't getting it. Until each individual start by adding value to that economy. |
paulynpen:But where are the fresh alternatives. The supposedly good people are too scared to come out. And the youths who are supposed to take advantage of their number are largely unserious. I am damn sure If a new youthful individual come out to ask for support from people of his age group to form a political party, it's the same set of people that will start crucifying him/her. Can any of you contribute ordinary N100 to support the political aspiration of an individual who come out to form a new political party to get rid of these old politucians. |
PapaBrowne:Apparently most Nigerians are too lazy to think. In an ideal world government don't have business running refineries. That's not the business of government. You probably should have asked why the previous government with the largest windfall from high oil earning still failed to revamp the refineries. Ask why your Nigerian businessmen who were issued with licences to build refineries failed to build one except one now been built by Dangote. Nigerians are unproductive and they expect some magic. What have you all contributed to make the country great rather than steal and robb each others future. You all should roll your sleeves and get to work. That's what people of great nation do. But you will rather sell your birth right to some dubious politicians. You are all getting what you deserve for fostering a culture of deception. You all ain't seen nothing yet. Until you rid yourselves of saboteurs among you. Nothing good will happen. |
Like a King that he was, Jesus could have used a chariot that fit the nobles but rather he choose to ride on a "poor" lone donkey. There is symbolic message in this. |
EternalBeing:There is a difference between using the name of God to run a business and not paying tax, and deliberately running a business enterprise with the corporate responsibilities that come with that. It's all a game. It's right there in your bible. In your case, the attraction is his wealth. What a way to reason. Most Nigerians need help to reset their brain to default. No dignity anymore. |
kross01:Then why did Dangote venture into building a refinery. Where are the others that were issued licenses. Truth is most Nigeria businessmen are rent seekers. Reason why the country import toothpicks and pencil. |
LadiIshola:Point of correction. Bitumen are not derived from your normal every day crude oil but from oil sands which are unconventional heavy oil that already has its lighter fraction degraded or removed in situ by microbes. And these are not refined in convention refineries. The largest oil sands reserve are in Canada and Venezuela. Nigeria also has some heavy oil deposits but not sure if these are exploited. In summary, one can't get bitumen from the kind of oil that Nigeria produce. These are high end light fractions. |
habsydiamond:I have never seen people so stupid and self-destructive. |
What baffle me is that many Nigerians are not as bright as average Nigerians claim. It's clear that the marketers are making attempt to hit a final "jackpot" before the magic year of 2019 when they are destined to go out of business as a result of coming on board of Dangote Refinery. It's the 11th hour for them and they will do anything to make a kill. |
BeeBeeOoh:Stupid unproductive Nigerians blaming Buhari for their own selfish way of live that bring nothing to anyone. Until you all are productive and learn to serve one another, nothing in that country will move forward. |
Nigerians, the marketers are the one scheming you. The same set of people that were involved in the shady petroleum subsidy scam. Now that the loopholes has been blocked and they are not making huge undeserving profit as before they are holding the government in ransom in order to negotiate a way back to the old system of doing things. |
What kind of human beings are these. So, virtually all the previous administration before Buhari also wished them bad. Nigerians are their own enemies. You should all look at youselves in Nigeria and deal with that "demons" in you that is holding the country down. These include tribalism, nepotism, corruption, greed, envy, hypocrisy, selfishness, and all negative energies in you that make you think that you must make live difficult for others. |
Ephort:Innoson likely "bought" the judgement in Awka where he could have influenced the judge. A lot of people are blinded by sentiments. He is a typical Nigerian businessman who fraudulently obtained collateral assets that are in the name of the bank. It's like one obtaining a car loan from a bank. All the documents are issued in the name of the bank and remain in possession of the bank until one pay off the loan. In Innoson case, GTB was asking for just 25% of total loan to release goods. Irrespective of all Innoson claims he and his company reputation has been damaged. As usual these largely criminal elites would stir up ethnic sentiments if things does not go their way. Unfortunately there are more than enough jobless youths ready to help stir it further. Reason why this damn country of largely unproductive people is not getting ahead. Even the one we've been supporting as a local auto manufacturer turn out to be a fraud. You don't use forged documents to get tax waivers, which suggest he did not even pay import tax on the equipments he fraudulently cleared from the port. He also "robbed" the federal government which is why the EFCC is also involved. Pack of fraudsters claiming to be businessmen. |
nueldozzy:And add to this, that US balls is in the hand of China. The Chinese owns most of US debt stock. Americans are living on borrowed time. They do not own a bulk of the money they are spending. |
Many of you supporting israel, go online and on Youtube to see how they treat the true Hebrews, which are of African dissent. Then you can come back here to support a nation currently run by Askanazi jews whose fakeness has been foretold in the holy book: Revelation 3:9 New International Version: I will make those who are of the synagogue of Satan, who claim to be Jews though they are not, but are liars--I will make them come and fall down at your feet and acknowledge that I have loved you. |
BeeBeeOoh:Many of you are typical empty headed noise makers. Nigeria's vote is consistent with the country historical international policy on israel-palestine issue. Aside recent military aid United States can't boast of any major aid to Nigeria. Voting against is the right thing to do as this stand in support of UN stance on the two state-2 capitals policy. US, a country that claim to be an arbiter in peaceful resolution of israel-palestine conflict can't take side as Trump just did. And US response to the countries that voted against sound typical of a bully nation. Trademark Trump, a deranged egotistic individual. Same thing he did on the Paris Climate policy. The US has never been this isolated. It's end as a superpower is getting closer as China, US major creditor takes over. |
While I do agree that people should go ahead to close their GTB account as form of protest. It should not be done on a sentimental basis that the victim of GTB unprofessional conduct is from a particular part of the country. This unprofessional act of using EFCC or police forces to intimidate individuals in issues that is purely a civil matter is very common. I have in my possession tens of thousands of court proceedings and many of the cases has to do with victims bringing a infringment of fundamental human right case against EFCC or the Police and respondents that resort to using security agencies to chase after debtors. In fact, this cut across different sectors, not just banks. Individuals also do this.. It's also very common in land and property cases as well where individuals involved in land or property possession matters use security agencies to intimidate respondents. In the cases of banks, this is totally unacceptable as I believe there should be laid down procedures to recover funds from debtors. Most of the banks do it. This case is only in public domain because the victim is well known. So, while I advise that people should go ahead to close their GTB accounts as a form of protest, it should not be based on ethnic sentiments. Many Nigerians of different ethnic backgrounds are victims, so such protest should be in support of these victims. Of course, it is okay to feel motivated to do so after reading about Innoson case because most of us know about his business. But on the other side, our people are very difficult and I can imagine how tough it may be for creditors to get their funds from debtors. But in advanced countries you don't involve police in civil matters. Court judgement is enough. And for a bank, this is a No...No. |
Nigerians need to be educated on places where one dare not use a cell phone because doing so put ones and other lives at risk. These include any location where a flammable material or product is stored or being sold. Among these are gas or petrol station, natural gas sales outlet, and others. Go on YouTube and view result of such fatal decision. In fact if you want to become more aware about safety and risks related to things we take for granted, you will learn some lessons here as someone some where learned the hard way. I am sure the location where the accident occurred does not have the required safety warning signs. |
GavelSlam:It's now more of a culture problem. |

and over here people obey rules unlike in nigeria.
Ourselves or the other countries....
