If ur sis is really keen about giving, she shud give to people genuinely in need. From all you have said her motive 4 giving is faulty cos she thinks the pastors blessings will enrich her. Advise her to give where she expects no return from then the heavenly Father will shower her with prosperity. It works for me. |

Christianity Etc › Re: Even Pastors Use Police Security by Akanniade(m): 10:24am On Sep 07, 2009 |
gen2genius: The problem with most cynics and skeptics like you is that you never take time to think deeply about an issue before spewing out rubbish. This is not the first time this topic is being raised and I think it's time someone cured you and your cronies of your ignoble ignorance.
Truly, the Scripture enjoins all believers to exercise faith in God in every area of their lives; but it never says we shouldn't apply our intellect, abilities and commonsense when necessary. If you're so obsessed with the issue of security, what would you say about provision of basic necessities? God promised to supply all our needs just as he promised to protect us, but does it mean we shouldn't work for our daily bread? God promised to keep us away from every form of sickness and disease but does that mean we should neglect the rules of hygiene?
When God promises to do something for you, it doesn't imply that you become careless and negligent of your own role - because faith without works is useless! You can't expect God to do for you what he has ENABLED and EMPOWERED you to do for yourself. By doing so, you're tempting God and abusing the divine privileges he has given you. In case you don't know, this was the focus of the first and second temptations Satan posed to Christ. In the first temptation, he asked him to use his spiritual power to turn stones into bread. Christ could have done so; but that would be tantamount to abuse of spiritual power. If he needed to eat, the right thing to do was to go get food the natural way. There was plenty of foodstuff in the market; why should he expect God to turn stones to bread for him? In the second instance, he was tempted by Satan to jump down from the pinnacle of the temple - because it had been written that God would protect him. But he refused because that would be sheer foolhardy!
Back to the issue of security. Would you say Pastors and other Christians should not lock and bolt the doors of their houses when necessary because God has promised to protect them? Wouldn't that be senseless and presumptuous? And for your information, right from the Bible days believers in God have been applying their God-given wisdom to protect themselves in their own ways. I'll give you a few examples in both the Old and the New Testaments of the Bible.
1. When Nehemiah and his people were rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem, they faced serious challenges from enemies who didn't want them to succeed in the task. Now, even though they expected God to help them overcome these enemies, they were sensible enough to know that they had a part to play. Here is Nehemiah's account of the event: And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses. And it came to pass, when our enemies heard that it was known unto us, and God had brought their counsel to nought, that we returned all of us to the wall, every one unto his work. And it came to pass from that time forth, that the half of my servants wrought in the work, and the other half of them held both the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the habergeons; and the rulers were behind all the house of Judah. They which builded on the wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that laded, every one with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other hand held a weapon. (Nehemiah 4:13-17).
2. When Herod beheaded James and his Jewish supporters expressed their approval, he wasted no time in arresting Peter, with the aim of beheading him too! What did the rest of the apostles do? They simply converged in the house of John Mark and LOCKED the gate while they prayed for Peter's release. And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews. And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying. And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda. And when she knew Peter's voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate. (Acts 12:11-14).
3. When Paul was to go to Rome and he got the report that some people were plotting to kill him, he did not take the matter for granted in the name of "faith." Instead, he asked that the case be reported to the Chief Captain, so he could be provided with adequate security. And guess what the Chief Captain did? He ordered that 470 security guards be assigned to Paul on the journey and Paul gladly agreed to the arrangement. Here is the account: And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul. And they were more than forty which had made this conspiracy. And they came to the chief priests and elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul. Now therefore ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he bring him down unto you to morrow, as though ye would enquire something more perfectly concerning him: and we, or ever he come near, are ready to kill him. And when Paul's sister's son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul. Then Paul called one of the centurions unto him, and said, Bring this young man unto the chief captain: for he hath a certain thing to tell him. So he took him, and brought him to the chief captain, and said, Paul the prisoner called me unto him, and prayed me to bring this young man unto thee, who hath something to say unto thee. Then the chief captain took him by the hand, and went with him aside privately, and asked him, What is that thou hast to tell me? And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would enquire somewhat of him more perfectly. But do not thou yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from thee. So the chief captain then let the young man depart, and charged him, See thou tell no man that thou hast shewed these things to me. And he called unto him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea, and horsemen threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night; And provide them beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor. So, get this into your head. You pray to God for victory in battles; but you must keep your gunpowder dry! Stop darkening counsel by words without knowledge. The authorities could not even recognise Jesus until he was pointed out by judas. if all the pastors keep a low profile like Jesus asked us to, they wouldnt need the mopols and bodyguards. |

. I got this from 2day's Tribune. Unbelievable! Poly Rector Is OND Graduate Johnson Babajide, Lokoja - 05.09.2009 THE existence of illegal tertiary institutions has been discovered in Kogi State, with the rector of one of them, Central Polytechnic, in Ankpa area of the state, alleged to possess an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) certificate. Saturday Tribune gathered that many of the students attending such institutions are oblivious of their illegal status. The proprietor of the said polytechnic is also alleged to be carrying an OND certificate. According to findings, the student population in the school is no more than 100. According to reports, the lecturers possessed Grade 11 teachers certificates and NCE certificates as well as OND certificates. Officials the state Ministry of Education, a few weeks ago, stormed some of the schools, sealed them off and launched a manhunt for their proprietors. Speaking on the issue, the Commissioner for Education, Chief Sylvester Onoja, said about eight of such institutions were existing in the state and some of them had been sealed off. Onoja gave the names of some of the institutions as Dominion College of Education, Olamaboro; Moonlight Polytechnic, Central Polytechnic, Equitorial College of Education, in Okura Lafia; All States Polytechnic and Idama College of Education, in Iyale. He promised that the government would move against the others which, he said, were yet to be visited. The commissioner charged parents to be wary of the illegal institutions, saying their graduates were unemployable |

Glo 1 Lands in Lagos Today •As Nigeria breaks telecoms record 09.05.2009 History will be made in the Nigerian telecommunication industry today as Glo 1, the world's first submarine optic fibre cable to be built by a single individual company, lands in Lagos. The 9,800km long cable which stretched from the UK across all the West African countries, will be anchored to its Landing Station at Alpha Beach, Lagos, this morning. The trend in the global telecommunication industry is for a consortium of companies or even nations to combine resources to build submarine cables as was the case with the SAT submarine 3 cable which was built by a consortium of 36 countries. The Group Chief Operating Officer, Globacom Limited, Jameel Mohammed said Glo 1 would deliver transmission capacity that would radically change Nigeria and West Africa's economic landscape by linking 17 countries to the rest of the world. Jameel said the landing of Glo-1 was another milestone in the history of Nigeria’s communications industry, adding that the cable would provide unprecedented high speed internet services and make telecom services much faster, more reliable and cheaper for consumers. Explaining the seeming delay in Glo-1’s arrival, the Globacom GCOO said that implementing submarine cable projects, particularly one spanning about 10,000 km from London to Lagos is an initiative that usually takes between two to two and a half years to complete. Furthermore, he said that because the cable passed through various territorial waters and jurisdictions of several African countries, Globacom had to contend with lengthy approval processes. “We needed permissions at many levels from all those countries to pass the cable through their territorial waters. We needed approval from security agencies, approvals from oil companies and from various bodies”, he said.He said Glo-1's current and upgradable capacity is enough to provide whatever broadband capacity Nigerians require for the next 15 to 20 years at the minimum projections. He disclosed that the telecoms giant had factored Nigeria's long term bandwidth requirements into the equation, adding that Glo 1 "can carry voice traffic of all operators internationally. We can also provide IPLC (International Private Leased Circuit) for corporates”.
He said high quality work was done in deeply burying the underseacable in such a way that there would be little or no chance of disruptions.Glo 1 which also has a dedicated link to the U.S, will revolutionise the provision of telecoms services in West Africa with its quality, speed, reliability and affordability for individuals and corporate organisations.Jameel said the submarine optic fibre cable will also support applications like teleconferencing, distance learning, disaster recovery and telemedicine among several other benefits for Nigerians and the people of West Africa.
I hope this will bring real broadband to nigeria. |

Man questions the morals of God. All the atrocities you quoted are from the bible are all sanctioned by the sovereign God, not by mere volition of the executors. I wont claim to fully grasp the reasons but the same executors of the aforesaid genocides were at one time or the other subjected to the same faith by several world powers even unto recent times. To the Atheists, I put this question: Why take this seriously? To you God is a fantasy. Why not treat the terrorism like other greek legends. To the muslim, I put this question: Why are you blowing hot and cold? You claim allah gave the Torah to the people of the book. You imply allah is Jehovah. Now you dissociate yourselves from the "crimes" of Jehovah. To the christains perplexed by this things take comfort in the words of Christ. Humble yourself before God. Afam: My friend, it is really shocking to read some of the things you put down on these inverter systems.
Do you build inverters?
What is the basis for some of the blanket statements you have been making?
You state boldly that a mass produced transformer is more efficient than a hand built one? What constitutes a transformer? Are you aware that the quality of electric cables produced in Nigeria is higher than all imported ones?
Please, stick to what you are sure of.
That you have tried some inverters from India and China and found them wanting doesn't give you the right to make categorical statements that are not factual. In answer to your question. Yes I used to. My very first inverter I built myself, xformer winding and all. You of all people shud know that building by hand requires a larger core to get to get a comparable power rating with a smaller core machine wound. Hand winding is a brute force approach to a technology that is already perfected. Why try to reinvent the wheel? Reputable companies make use of high permeability cores hence a more compact design. I am not into inverter sales or services but whenever I see false claims I cant help but refute. Afam, what about the guy claiming to recycle inverter power? What is ur take on that? When I advocate buying, I mean from a company with accreditation. Good things dont come cheap. Unfortunately Nigerians are always lookin 4 short cuts. Even people who lack knowledge of the most basic rudiments of electronics suddenly claim to be experts. I think I have said enough. LOL |
Christianity Etc › Re: Giving In The New Testament by Akanniade(m): 4:30pm On Sep 01, 2009 |
KunleOshob: I came across this scripture on giving in the new testament, hope it blesses us all.
2 Corinthians 8:1-15: Christian giving 1 Now I want you to know, dear brothers and sisters,[a] what God in his kindness has done through the churches in Macedonia. 2 They are being tested by many troubles, and they are very poor. But they are also filled with abundant joy, which has overflowed in rich generosity.
3 For I can testify that they gave not only what they could afford, but far more. And they did it of their own free will. 4 They begged us again and again for the privilege of sharing in the gift for the believers in Jerusalem. 5 They even did more than we had hoped, for their first action was to give themselves to the Lord and to us, just as God wanted them to do.
6 So we have urged Titus, who encouraged your giving in the first place, to return to you and encourage you to finish this ministry of giving. 7 Since you excel in so many ways—in your faith, your gifted speakers, your knowledge, your enthusiasm, and your love from us[c]—I want you to excel also in this gracious act of giving.
8 I am not commanding you to do this. But I am testing how genuine your love is by comparing it with the eagerness of the other churches.
9 You know the generous grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty he could make you rich.
10 Here is my advice: It would be good for you to finish what you started a year ago. Last year you were the first who wanted to give, and you were the first to begin doing it. 11 Now you should finish what you started. Let the eagerness you showed in the beginning be matched now by your giving. Give in proportion to what you have. 12 Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it eagerly. And give according to what you have, not what you don’t have. 13 Of course, I don’t mean your giving should make life easy for others and hard for yourselves. I only mean that there should be some equality. 14 Right now you have plenty and can help those who are in need. Later, they will have plenty and can share with you when you need it. In this way, things will be equal. 15 As the Scriptures say,
“Those who gathered a lot had nothing left over, and those who gathered only a little had enough. He who has ears let him listen. |
