Some questions we need to ask the federal
government and ,INEC concerning the
postponement of elections
1.Its obvious that the postponement mainly
hinges on the insurgence in North East of
Nigeria.However, i cant help but ask why
the military is so much interested in getting
rid of the militants within a period of just
six week.
2 Why weren't they(armed forces) this
serious before and do they deals hope to
achieve something tangible in the light of
their current woeful performance?
3.Didn't countries like Syria,Libya n odas
too numerous to mention stil hold elections
even in the face of crisis sum of which
were more disastrous than what we are
experiencing in the North East?
4.Is there any guarantee that the elections
will be more freer and fairer when held
than what would have been obtained if
they were not postponed.
5.Will qualified voters not still be
disenfranchised when the elections are
held finally?
6.What effort has INEC made to ensure that
the above scenario will not occur?
7.How many voters have actually collected
their PVCs since the postponement of the
election?
8. Information has it that the
PVC collection rate has been more in the
Arewa zones of North East and North
West than the rest of the country.This is a plot to disenfranchise
alot of voters in some sections of the
country where a particular party has as it
stronghold.Apparently, If this turns out be
the truth,then INEC is now playing partisan
politics.
My question goes thus;has INEC which is
supposed to operate independently of political influence as stipulated in the constitution become
a mere rubber stamp of one of the two
major political parties?

Four months ago, Demeteriya Nabire was
killed by a crocodile when she went to the
lake near her home to fetch water. The
animal later came back to the area but
found Nabire’s husband waiting, ready to
take revenge. Demeteriya Nabire was at
the water’s edge with a group of women
from her village – they were gathering
water from Uganda’s Lake Kyoga when
the crocodile grabbed her. It dragged her
away and she was never seen again.
Her husband, Mubarak Batambuze, was
devastated – Nabire was pregnant when
she died, and he had lost not only his wife
but an unborn child as well. He felt
powerless. But then last month he heard
the crocodile had returned. “Somebody
called me and said, ‘Mubarak, I have news
for you – the crocodile that took your wife
is here – we are looking at it now.’”
The 50-year-old fisherman made his way
to the lake with some friends. “He was a
very big monster, and we tried fighting
him with stones and sticks. But there was
nothing we could do,” he says.
So Batambuze went to visit the local
blacksmith.“I explained to him that I was
fighting a beast that had snatched and
killed my wife and unborn baby. I really
wanted my revenge, and asked the
blacksmith to make me a spear that could
kill the crocodile dead. “The Blacksmith
asked me for £3.20 ($5) and made the
spear for me,” he says. It was a
significant amount of money for
Batambuze, but he was determined to kill
the animal that had snatched his future.
“The crocodile ate my wife entirely.
Nothing was ever seen of her again – no
clothes, no part of her body that I could
identify. I just didn’t know what to do – a
mother and her unborn child. It was the
end of my world. I was completely lost.”
Armed with his new spear – specially
designed with a barb on one side – the
widower went on the attack.
When he got to the water the crocodile
was still there, but Batambuze’s friends
took fright. “Please don’t attack this
beast,” they pleaded, “it’s so huge it may
eat you. The spear is not enough – it
won’t finish the job.” But Batambuze
insisted they stay. “I failed killing it the
first time around,” he told them, “I’m not
bothered if I die killing this beast. I’m
going to take it on with this spear, and I
will make sure that it dies.”
A Ugandan Wildlife Authority ranger,
Oswald Tumanya, says the crocodile was
more than four metres long and weighed
about 600kg. “I had so much fear in me
but what helped me to succeed was the
spear,” says Batambuze. He tied a rope to
the end of the weapon so that once the
tip was embedded in the crocodile, he
could pull it out at an angle and the barb
would cut into more of the animal’s flesh.
“I put the spear into the crocodile’s side,
and while my friends were helping to
throw stones at the beast’s back, it tried
getting its mouth up to attack me again.
“It turned violent, and then there was so
much fear in the place. But I was so
determined, and I wasn’t afraid of dying. I
just wanted it dead, so I put the spear in
its side and I pulled the rope. That got the
crocodile into trouble.”
It took an hour and a half for Batambuze
and his friends, fighting and retreating,
exchanging attacks with the enraged
animal, before the crocodile was finally
dead. Exhausted, they made their way
back to their village. “There was so much
shock. What really surprised everybody
was how big the beast was. It wasn’t an
ordinary crocodile. It was so big. And
people called me and my friends heroes,”
he says.
The dead animal was taken to Makarere
University in Kampala, where it was
examined by a vet, Wilfred Emneku. He
says a tibia bone was found inside the
crocodile’s stomach, but while he believes
it’s human he can’t be sure. A crocodile
expert at Charles Darwin University in
Australia, Adam Britton, says he would be
very surprised if any remains inside the
animal’s stomach were those of
Demeteriya Nabire.
“After 12 weeks… under normal conditions,
it would be highly improbable for bones
from the same meal to remain in the
stomach,” he says. So while Batambuze’s
celebrity status endures in his village, it is
unlikely that he will ever have a grave to
mourn at. “Within myself I’m a very
depressed man because I lost a wife and
an unborn child,” he explains.
“But the locals keep on saying, ‘Thank you
for killing the beast, that’s where we fetch
water and we’re sure it would have taken
somebody else. Thank you so much, you
did a great job.’” “So I’m a local hero –
people keep on thanking me.”

Iran on Saturday announced plans to
assist in the fight against Boko Haram, as
part of its contribution for global peace.
The country’s Deputy Foreign Affairs
Minister, Amir Hossein Abdollohian made
the announcement while addressing the
press on Saturday on the sideline of the
ongoing 24th Assembly of the African
Union Heads of State and Government in
Addis Ababa.
Abdollohian said the activities of the Boko
Haram militants and that of Al-Shabaab in
the Somalia were similar to that of Al-
Qaeda and the Islamic State and other
terrorist groups in the Middle East.
“Boko Haram in Nigeria and Al-Shabaab
in the Horn of Africa are similar with Al-
Qaeda and ISISL in parts of the Middle
East using similar methods of operations to
cause havoc to the people of the two
regions. Iran is therefore willing to use its
experience in dealing with terror groups to
assist in combatting these groups in
Africa.”
He said Iran was willing to share its
experiences on terrorist activities it
gathered over the years in Iraq, Lebanon,
Syria and other parts of the Middle East
with Africa, particularly Nigeria and
Somalia, as part of efforts to ensure global
peace.
According to him, Iran has opened
consultation with the African Union to offer
its contribution to the affected countries in
the coming days.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that
Iran is attending the AU Summit as an
observer with interest in bilateral and
multilateral cooperation with some of the
AU member states.

FORMER CPC vice presidential candidate
and founder of Latter Rain Assembly,
Pastor Tunde Bakare has declared that he
earnestly yearns for a better Nigeria where
good governace, equal distribution of the
nation’s resources amongst others for all
citizens.
The former running mate of Gen.
Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) made this
remarks while ministering during the
inauguration and commissioning of Grace
and Glory Chapel in Ikeja, Lagos, while
giving reasons why he rejected a car gift
for his 60th birthday.
Pastor Bakare said he was not interested
in becoming a local champion in a city of
the blind, recalling that, some persons
brought him a 2015 model of Rolls Royce
during his 60th birthday which, he said, he
out rightly rejected, adding that he was
not in need of such exotic car while
majority of Nigerians are wallowing in
poverty.
“I want to see good governance. I want to
see discipline. I want to see equitable
distribution of resources. I want to see the
poor being educated. I want to see a
nation that works,” Bakare said.
Continuing, he said: “I don’t want to be a
local champion in a city of the blind. I am
not in need of a 2015 model of Rolls-
Royce which was presented to me as a
gift.
“I was sitting at home one day and they
brought in a brand new 2015 Rolls-Royce
into my house. My 60th birthday was
coming. I looked at it, kai! This is awkward.
When you open your car, your door goes
this way, its own door goes that way. It
clears the way so that there is nothing
blocking your way.
“I saw a button. They said: it is an
umbrella sir. It is on every door in case it
is raining, you just push it and the
umbrella comes out. I said: Na wa o. Then
I said: Oya, leave this place.
“Where is the road that I will ride it upon?
My heart is not in things like this. I asked
my son to take a photograph of the brand
new car as a proof,” the controversial
pastor noted.
Bakare also averred that poverty has
made most Nigerians to believe that
anybody without a jet has not arrived,
adding that majority of those who bought
jets can no longer maintain such jets and
are busy leasing them out.

The campaign billboards of two Nigerian
presidential candidates erected in Ghana’s
capital, Accra have been pulled down
following an order by the country’s
(Ghana) national security agency.
The billboards of the ruling Peoples
Democratic Party featuring President
Goodluck Jonathan, as well as those of the
main opposition All Progressives Congress
of Muhammadu Buhari, located on Accra
roads, were pulled down over the weekend
by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly.
The decision to pull down the billboards
was said to have come amid fears by
some Ghanaians that their country could
be drawn indirectly into the politics of
Nigeria, with security implications,
especially with the Boko Haram terrorists
wreaking havoc in Nigeria.
Following the order by the National
Security, according to GhanaWeb, a
security expert at the Kofi Annan
International Peacekeeping Training Centre,
Dr. Kwesi Annin, had indicated that Ghana
had been saved from a possible attack by
the terrorist group, Boko Haram, by pulling
down the billboards put up in some parts
of Accra.
He was quoted to have said that political
elite in the country could have been
targeted by Boko Haram if the political
campaign in Ghana was not stopped.
He said, “I think it is critical that the
National Security and Accra Metropolitan
Assembly have listened to the concerns
and voices raised by ordinary citizens that
these billboards and some level of active
political engagement might pose potential
threat in the future.”
He said the removal of the billboards
should not only be about Boko Haram, but
also about whether or not laws governing
the country permit foreign political entities
to campaign in Ghana.
Meanwhile, an international relations
expert, Dr. Vladmir Antwi Danso, said
Ghana had been saved from severing
future relations with Nigeria.
He was reported to have explained that if
there was the perception that Ghana was
supporting one candidate over the other,
then the relationship between Ghana and
Nigeria after the elections would be
marred.
“What if after the elections the scales
change, then the relationship between our
country and Nigeria will also have some
hiccups,” Danso said.

The Federal Capital Territory Minister,
Senator Bala Mohammed, has described
the Bauchi State Governor, Isa Yuguda, as
an All Progressives Congress’ mole in the
Peoples Democratic Party.
Mohammed, who denied being the
mastermind of the attack on President
Goodluck Jonathan’s convoy in Bauchi by
political thugs on January 22, described
Yuguda’s allegation against him as
irrational.
The governor had fingered Mohammed as
the sponsor of the attack on the
President’s convoy during a campaign in
Bauchi, but the minister in a statement by
his special aide on media, Nosike
Ogbuenyi, in Abuja on Monday, stated that
Yuguda’s allegation was embarrassing.
He queried the governor’s allegiance to the
PDP and wondered when he became the
APC spokesman.
Mohammed said, “It is simply irrational for
Governor Yuguda to allege that the
minister hired thugs to stone and
embarrass himself (minister) while
addressing the presidential rally in his
home state. By this claim, Yuguda has
proven correct the allegation that he has
been hobnobbing with the APC at night
and running with the PDP in daytime.
“By Yuguda’s latest embarrassing
conduct, he has successfully exposed his
chameleonic character as an APC mole in
the PDP. We call on Isa Yuguda to please
respect himself by leaving Senator Bala
Mohammed alone.”
The minister wondered why the governor
exonerated the APC of culpability in the
attack on the PDP presidential campaign
team in Bauchi, noting that Yuguda had
not been campaigning for Jonathan in his
state.
“Many Nigerians still remember recent
media reports that Yuguda is the real
godfather and sponsor of the APC
governorship candidate in Bauchi State
and that he has not been campaigning for
President Jonathan’s re-election in the
state. Again, history is there to expose the
governor as an unabashed fifth columnist
in the PDP,” Mohammed stated.
He said that he had consistently suffered
attacks from the negative politics in the
state for his support for the President,
adding that in 2011, thugs protesting
against Jonathan’s victory in the elections,
razed down his two-storey building and
almost killed his mother and other relatives
in Bauchi.
The minister stated that his only sin was
that he mobilised lawmakers to invoke the
‘Doctrine of Necessity’ to confer powers on
the then Vice President Jonathan to act as
President while the late President Umaru
Musa Yar’Adua was away in Saudi Arabia
for medical attention.

The Independent National Electoral
Commission has rejected the governorship
candidates of seven parties.
The parties and the states affected
according to the commission, are the
Peoples Party of Nigeria in Delta State;
Labour Party in Niger State; the New
Nigeria Peoples Party in Ogun State; and
the Unity Party of Nigeria in Oyo State.
Others are the United Democratic Party in
Rivers State; and the Peoples Democratic
Movement in Sokoto and Zamfara states.
No reason was given by the commission
for the action, which was made known via
its bulletin. The commission did not also
give the names of the affected candidates.
In a decision extract issued and signed by
the Director (Commission’s Secretariat), Mr.
Ishiaku Gali, INEC also approved that the
only candidate for the House of
Representatives in Ado/Opoku/Ogbadibo
Federal Constituency of Benue State, be
declared elected on the day of the election
by the Returning Officer.
INEC hinged its decision on the provision of
Section 41 (1) of the Electoral Act 2010 (as
amended) which provides that, “If after the
expiration of time for delivering of
nomination papers, withdrawal of
candidates and the extension of time as
provided for in this Act there is only one
person whose name is validly nominated in
respect of an election, other than to the
office of the President or Governor, that
person shall be declared elected.”
Consequently, the candidate, Mr. Christian
Abah, of the Peoples Democratic Party,
being the only contestant in the
constituency has been declared the winner
without election.
Aged 50, Abah has a General Certificate of
Education after attending a college of

The website, buhari.ng, was created by IT
expert, Babajide Akeredolu. The website is
created with the intention of publishing
‘favourable news and articles’ on the major
challenger of President Goodluck Jonathan
in the February 14 presidential election.
A check on the website reveals that it is
populated with articles that extol the
virtues of Buhari, especially during his
days as the head of state and
commissioner for Petroleum Resources.

i wish it was the president n his top campaign crew that were trapped in the city of Maiduguri n not this unknown fellows.. this wud have prompted him to stop handling those murderers with kid glove...He wud equip our armed force with beta weapons n help fish out the saboteurs in the system..untill then,the situation shall continue to worsen...

A woman who has served her rural
Kenyan village as a midwife for the past
65 years has returned to primary school
along with six of her great-great-
grandchildren.
Priscilla Sitienei, 90, is believed to be the
oldest primary school pupil in the world.
She enrolled at Leaders Vision Preparatory
School in the Rift Valley village of Ndalat
five years ago, with the intention of finally
learning to read and write.
Affectionately known as "Gogo", which
means grandmother in the local Kalenjin
language, Mrs Sitienei grew up under
British colonial masters and never had the
chance to go to school.
She said she wants to be able to read the
Bible, pass on her midwifery skills and
write down the herbal remedies she uses
in births.
She also hopes to inspire those younger
than her – including her own classmates,
aged between 10 and 14, some of whom
she delivered as babies.
Priscilla Sitienei has enrolled in primary
school for the first time in her life - at the
age of 90.
Her head teacher in Kenya's Rift Valley
believes she is the oldest pupil in the
world.
The former midwife is determined to learn
how to read and write and attends every

President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday
read the Riot Act to rice importers in the
country, saying all those owing the nation
rice import duties must pay, no matter
how highly placed they are.
He said under no circumstance will he
allow rice importers to hold the nation to
ransom.
“Nigeria our dear country will not be held
hostage by rice importers. There will be no
sacred cows under my watch. All those
owing Nigeria on rice import duties must
pay,” Jonathan declared at the opening of
an event called AgriFest 2015 at the Eagles
Square, Abuja.
The President noted that rice farmers
across the country have a new lease of
life due to the transformation taking place
in the sector.
He said over six million rice farmers have
received improved rice seed varieties,
boosting domestic rice production by an
additional seven million metric tons.
He said, “The rice revolution is taking place
across the country, from Kebbi, Kano,
Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, Bauchi,
Gombe, Niger, Kogi, Ogun, Ekiti, Ebonyi,
Rivers, Anambra, Delta, Edo to Bayelsa
State.
“High quality Nigerian rice is now
competing favourably with imported rice in
the markets.
“Our rice millers have taken advantage of
these new opportunities, and the number
of integrated rice mills has expanded from
1 (one) at the beginning of this
administration, to 24 today.
“And they are all here today. I celebrate
you all. I eat Nigerian rice and can tell you
it is better than imported rice,” he added.
Jonathan also announced the release of
N26billion for the 2015 dry season farming
programme.
He told the large gathering of farmers that
he remained the farmers’ President and
would need their support to remain in
office beyond this year.
He said the various innovations put up by
his administration had changed the face of
agriculture in the country.
He promised to do more for the farmers
and the sector if re-elected.
