Nairaland GeneralChina Village Votes To Expel HIV- Positive Boy by Akbee(op): 1:36pm On Dec 18, 2014
The plight of a Chinese boy with the HIV
virus, reportedly pushed to leave his home
by 200 villagers who signed a petition,
sparked intense online soul-searching in
the country on Thursday.
The case has highlighted the stigma
attached to HIV in China, where many
sufferers face widespread discrimination.
The boy’s guardian, his grandfather, was
among those in the southwestern Sichuan
province who signed an agreement to
expel the eight-year-old to “protect
villagers’ health”, the Global Times
reported.
The newspaper, with close ties to the
ruling Communist Party, said the boy
contracted the virus from his mother, and
was diagnosed when he received injuries
for minor treatment in 2011.
Previous reports said the boy — who was
given the pseudonym Kunkun by Chinese
media — was refused admission to local
schools and villagers would avoid contact
with him.
“Nobody plays (with me), I play alone,”
Kunkun said, according to a report
Wednesday on the website of the People’s
Daily newspaper, the official mouthpiece of
Communist Party.
The website also said Kunkun was referred
to as a “time bomb” in the petition.
“The villagers sympathise with him, he is
innocent, and only a small child,” Wang
Yishu, party chief of Shufangya village,
told the website.
“But his HIV and AIDS is too scary for us.”
The Global Times said the boy’s mother left
the family in 2006, while his father “lost
contact” after Kunkun’s condition was
diagnosed.
The case sparked much debate on China’s
Twitter-like Sina Weibo, where it was the
most widely-discussed topic on Thursday
morning, with many asking how people
could be so cold-hearted towards the boy.
“Why was he ruthlessly neglected, it is so
unfair to him,” one poster said.
“This is because the Chinese population
cannot get enough education, causing
ignorance and panic,” said another.
China’s National Health and Family
Planning Commission said earlier this
month that by the end of October, a total
of 497,000 people in China had been
diagnosed with HIV/AIDS since the
country’s first case in 1985. China has a
population of 1.36 billion.
Discrimination against those with HIV/AIDS
remains an issue at schools, hospitals,
workplaces and other establishments
across the country, a factor that experts
say hampers efforts to diagnose and treat
the virus.

GHANA
In the last four editions, the Black Stars
have not failed to make the semi finals of
the Africa Cup of Nations.
Their closest efforts at winning the title
was when they were pegged 1-0 by Egypt
in the final of the 2010 edition staged in
Angola. It would be downright dippy to
suggest the current Ghana squad is
anything but the best the country has
been blessed with.
It is a genuinely star-studded line-up,
with the likes of Asamoah Gyan, the Ayew
brothers and Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu.
Something tells me the Black Stars might
just break their 33-year-old jinx.

After a failed expedition in 2013, the
Carthage Eagles failed to get out of the
group stage that paraded Ivory Coast,
Togo and Algeria. Georges Leekens’ men
seek redemption that will not only see
them challenge for the trophy but secure
their second title after their 2004 triumph
on home soil.
They were unbeaten in the group stage
and let in two goals to testify to their
defensive prowess. The north Africans are
blessed with blistering speed and depth in
all positions and are currently ranked 22nd
by Fifa.
Should they miss out on this one, a
conquest in 2017 will be a better bet.

CAMEROON
The Indomitable Lions make a return to
the competition after missing out of the
2012 and 2013 editions in South Africa.
Though ranked number eight in Africa,
they are a very strong force to reckon with
going by their antecedents in the history
of the competition with four title wins to
their credit. Blessed with a relatively
youthful side. In a defensive sense, they
have been very difficult to break down.
They were unbeaten in their six qualifiers
and only let in one goal.

With the conclusion of the Africa Cup of
Nations draw in Malabo, Africans now
know exactly what lies ahead early next
year when the 16 contestants converge for
the continent’s biggest showpiece.
Painfully, the Super Eagles will not be
defending the trophy they won in South
Africa after blowing away their chance in
their last qualifier on home soil. As Stephen
Keshi’s men continue to lick their wounds
for not qualifying, Goal takes a look at
countries that will likely conquer Equatorial
Guinea come 2015.
ALGERIA
No doubt the best team in Africa at the
moment by virtue of their Fifa ranking.
The Algerians have been among the most
exciting nations to watch at recent major
tournaments. They surprised everyone at
the 2014 World Cup with their free-flowing
attacking football and almost dispatched
reigning world champions Germany.
Christian Gourcuff will be hoping to lead his
entertaining side to their first victory since
1990 achieved on home soil.
The Fennecs have a fair number of other
players with big-game experience from
playing in major leagues across Europe
and are hot favorites to rule Equatorial
Guinea.

I just dont know the right section to put this but i hope the mods wl the needful.
lets face it!
We all have things about ourselves that we

you can relate.
1.You are lazy.
2.Your breath smells
3.You have a hobby that you haven't done in a while
4. Nobody ever Likes your Statuses

10.You trust people easily.
What are those things you hate about yourself?

HealthMedical Doctors And Their Illegible Handwritings by Akbee(op): 5:43am On Nov 24, 2014
It is obvious that poor handwriting is synonymous with the medical profession. Doctors' sloppy handwriting kills more than
7,000 people annually. It's a shocking
statistic, and, according to a July 2006
report from the National Academies of
Science's Institute of Medicine (IOM),
preventable medication mistakes also injure
more than 1.5 million Americans annually.
Many such errors result from unclear
abbreviations and dosage indications and
illegible writing.
Handwriting experts across the world have established that consistently illegible handwriting is
indicative of a subconscious inclination to
be careless, negligent and sloppy towards
the person for whom it has been written.
Therefore, if a doctor writes illegibly for his
patients, it means he is inconsiderate to
the recipients of the prescriptions.
It’s like an attitude imprinted on the paper,
which could be roughly put into words in
the following manner: “I don’t care
whether you are able to read it or not; I
don’t care whether you get well or not; I
am sitting here doing my job the way I
like, in my own style. How much you will
be benefitted from my skills is your
problem and I am not going to be least
bothered about what happens to you after
you leave this cabin. Just pay the fee to
my assistant and get out…”
Most doctors
argue that they write illegibly because
they are in haste and they have to attend
to many patients. Now, I have a little
problem with this argument. It’s complete
hogwash. We can prove it.
On an average, a doctor does not write
more than 40 words on a prescription.
Let’s assume that it takes them about
three minutes to write a prescription in
illegible handwriting. But if they write
legibly, maybe they will take four minutes.
Not more than that. The difference is just
about 60 seconds. Doc, are you telling us
that you write illegibly because you are
too busy to spare 60 seconds to the
person who is paying you for it? Sorry, sir,
give me another one. If you consistently
write illegibly for your patients, it shows
your carelessness and inconsideration.
What is your take on this?

skeptical and decides to trick the man with
a 5-year Scotia. The man takes a sip,

with 8-year scotch. The man takes a sip,
grim aces and says, “Bartender, I don’t
want 8-year scotch like this filth. Give me
12-year scotch. “
Impressed, the bartender gets the 12-year
scotch. The man takes a sip and sighs,
“Ah, now that’s the real thing:’ A
disgusting, grimy, stinking drunk has been
watching all this with great interest. He
stumbles over and sets a glass down in
front of the man and says, “Hah, I think
that’s really far out what you can do. Try
this one.”
The man takes a sip and immediately spits
out the liquid and cries: “Yechhh! This
stuff tastes like piss!” says the drunk.
“Now how old am I?”
