PoliticsI’m Not An IPOB, Biafra Member But ‘just An Igbo Rapper’ Says Phyno by akelicious(op): 1:41pm On Oct 07, 2019
Igbo rapper Phyno spotted on a video with cool FM Lagos says I’m not an IPOB member nor Biafra but just an Igbo rapper.

To promote the album, the rapper who mainly delivers in his native Igbo tongue has embarked on a media tour which led him to Cool FM on Wednesday, September 4, 2019. While at the radio station, he had a chat with OAP, Do2tun.

During the chat, Do2tun asked Phyno how he felt about being pigeonholed as ‘just an Igbo rapper’ by asking, “Music is universal… But they try to box rappers like, ‘He’s a rapper from the East (of Nigeria). Do you like that?”

Phyno replied, “Trust me, I think it’s a box. I should be proud of where I’m from, right? But then again, making it feel like my music is just meant for people in that region is a box already.”

After Do2tun then said he know Phyno has been trying to change it, Phyno said, “Anything you put your energy in drains you. That shouldn’t be my problem, but then again, it’s a box generally, trust me. It’s not something I should be feeling good about. I’m a musician, I’m a rapper doing what I know how to do best, how I want to do it.

“But if you want to start judging from how people see you and put things in their heads, then you’d see this is already a box and it will be difficult to get out of it. So, just do your thing.”

Going further, Phyno explained why the ethnic diversity of Nigeria will forever influence how people respond to music they can understand. He then says, “Nobody says Tekno or Patoranking, the boy from the East, but they’re from the East. (They) probably (box me) because I make music in Igbo…

“But then again, Wiz does music in Yoruba whether you like it or not. Davido does music in Yoruba whether you like it or not. So why box only Olamide?”

When Do2tun was stunned, Phyno then said, “Exactly. It’s your native language. Speak it, be proud of it. Don’t box anybody for what they do. Do you really think I didn’t go to school or that I don’t have my certificate at the end of the day? This is how I know to do my music the best way I can.”

Before the chat ends, Phyno says that he thinks South African rapper should be responsible with his tweets. However, the Nigerian rapper says he never had a problem with AKA’s tweets in the wake of South Africa’s loss to Nigeria at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Phyno’s 21-track project features prominent acts like Olamide, Runtown, Don Jazzy and so forth. On the album, Phyno excellently again rapped in his native Igbo tongue – even Davido joined him to speak Igbo on the track titled, ‘Ride For You.’

CelebritiesMI Shades Vector On Bbnaija 2019 Stage by akelicious(op): 6:16am On Oct 07, 2019
It appears that MI took his beef with Vector to the BBNaija 2019 house with after his performance seems to shade his fellow rapper.

Deliberately performing Anoti, Undisputed Champion and Bad Belle and wearing a “No Snakes” shirt, it is clear to fans and doubting Thomases that the beef just got on.

Only yesterday, he released his diss track which has continued to receive positive reviews from the public. Some were disappointed, however, that he failed to perform the diss track. Yet, some opine that his carefully selected songs were enough to reaffirm his status as the “king of rap.”

He has also promised that the shirt will be available to the public soon.

This time around the last female BBNAija housemate, Mercy bared her breast on national Tv.

This happened while she was dancing in the garden in front of the other housemates.

Akelicious recalls that Mercy who appeared to be the most entertaining of all the housemates, had flashed her boobs and stripped sometime ago earlier in the show.

Mercy escaped eviction to the finals after she bought immunity for 2000 coins.

Mercy will on Sunday battle with other four male housemates, Seyi, Frodd, Mike and Omashola to emerge winner of BBNaija ‘Pepper Dem’ edition.

Celebrities#bbnaija2019: Actor Uche Maduagwu Says He Regrets Supporting Tacha by akelicious(op): 6:11pm On Oct 01, 2019
Controversial Nollywood actor, Uche Maduagwu has stated that he regrets supporting Tacha in the Pepper Dem Gang edition of the BBNaija show. In a recent post shared on his Instagram, Maduagwu said that being voted out of the show is better than getting disqualified. This he meant in respect to the fate of Tacha, who was booted out of the show for disobeying Big Brother’s rules. The controversial housemate had a fall out with Mercy aka Lambo and during a heated argument, pulled her hair.

Such action got her disqualified and the housemate has been one of the most discussed after that. Maduagwu who was formerly a fan of Tacha stated that he regrets supporting the disqualified housemate and revealed that he will be joining team Lambo.

Meanwhile, popular singer and entrepreneur Reprudencia Sonkey, known by her stage name Dencia, recently took to Twitter, with a chunk of advice for disqualified Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) housemate, Tacha. Dencia in her post expressed that if the young lady has a good publicist, then such image professional should advise her to charge her fans to cast their votes in support of fellow housemate Mercy, since she is no longer in the game. According to Dencia, the move will not only help to repair her public image, but will also help humanize her and change the perception that viewers have formed about her

PoliticsFulani Herdsman To Pay 500k Fine If They Kill Anyone In Anambra State - Obiano by akelicious(op): 6:52am On Sep 30, 2019
Fulani Herdsman To Pay 500,000 Naira Fine If They Kill Anyone In Anambra State – Obiano

Many people are confused as to the video trending online where gov Obiano said that it was agreed that herdsmen will pay 500,000 naira to the family of anyone they kill, and our people will also pay same money to the herdsmen if they kill any of them.

I think the public needs better explanation as to what the governor meant in that speech.

Human life whether Fulani, farmer or Onye Igbo can not be placed at a mere 500,000 naira worth.

Murder is a serious criminal matter, and it is only the court and not a governor that can place sentence or fine to a suspect.

PoliticsNorth Not Afraid Of Nigeria Breaking Up – Anthony Sani Tells Ipob by akelicious(op): 3:09pm On Sep 29, 2019
The Secretary General of the Arewa Consultative Forum, Anthony Sani, in this interview, speaks on the state of the nation, saying the North is not afraid of Nigeria breaking up but prefers a strong, united country.

According to him, those who accuse President Muhammadu Buhari of lack of performance are not being truthful because if Nigerians had adjudged him as a failure in his first term, they would not have voted him for second term.

Let’s start with the issue of security on which many Nigerians think government hasn’t done much because kidnapping and banditry have continued to fester across the country despite the measures taken by the authorities. Where do you stand?

For proper assessment of efforts by government, it is important to do fact checking on what was inherited and what obtains now.

There was a time when people feared to gather in churches, in markets and in any ceremonies out of fear of attacks which transcended northern states and FCT. As a result, sense of helplessness and hopelessness overwhelmed the people, including residents of FCT.

The security challenges were so widespread that the United States made a forecast that Nigeria was at tipping point and would fall off the cliff by 2015.That did not happen. Thanks to the emergence of this regime. Today, the country is still one because Boko Haram has been tamed and the activities of the sect have been limited to the fringes of the North-East by the current regime.

But because corruption has stolen our patrimony, our opportunity and our future for many decades as well as the introduction of cashless economy which has made armed robbery to be unattractive, there has been recent resurgence of banditry, kidnapping and cattle rustling as business for some people. The UN Resolution 1966 of 2010 is specific that affected states must address the underlying causes, which this regime has been trying to address by way of fighting insurgence and corruption in order to create the enabling environment for the economy to be diversified away from oil to the exploitation of natural resources. The government has been trying to deliver on its promises. And it seems there is improvement.

For banditry, kidnapping and cattle rustling to give way, government must enlist the support of citizens not only in the use of military might but also of the citizens who should exercise patience and help government overcome the challenges.

The efforts of government alone against the insecurity posed by insurgents, bandits, cattle rustlers, herders and farmers conflicts, militants activism, cultism, ritual killings and even baby factories are not enough. One way citizens can support government is through the community policing and to avoid giving ethnic and religious coloration to purely criminal activities lest such coloration provide criminals with platform to hide and perpetrate crimes, knowing it is not possible to prosecute ethnicity and religion.

The fight against corruption should not be left to the Federal Government alone. States and local governments and the citizens must join the fight against corruption and stigmatize it in such a way as to discourage the practice of cash-for-peerage in our national life. Those arraigned for corruption should defend themselves instead of insisting that all corrupt people must be arraigned at the same time. I say so because the fight against corruption is work in progress that is expected to outlive the current regime.

Negotiating with bandits and kidnappers is ongoing in Katsina after the exercise proved successful in Zamfara. But critics say this is amoral. What does ACF think?

I am not the official spokesman for ACF which has a spokesman. I only complement his efforts. Most of your questions should be directed to the National Publicity Secretary whose job is to address your concerns please.

As far as I am concerned, negotiation to save lives is not out of place. You will recall that the Israeli government released 1, 000 members of Hamas held in custody in exchange for the release of one Israeli soldier held captive by Hamas in 2006. Also in 2014, then-President Obama negotiated the release of one American soldier held captive by the Taliban in exchange for five Taliban soldiers held by America in Guantanamo. Also note why the UN often invites warring parties to Geneva for peace talks. The aim is to avoid further killings in wars and not because the UN approves killings in wars.

That is why there is an adage that says if you kill one person, you would be charged for murder; if you kill ten persons, you would be examined for insanity, but if you kill 1,000 people, you would be invited for peace talks in Geneva not because the world likes your killings but because the world wants to stop further killings. That is the way I see the spirit of the negotiation by the governors of Katsina and Zamfara states, to wit, stop further killings in their states by bandits. So those who use Danegeld’s theory of rewarding bad behaviours and attack the two governors should have realistic appreciation of the situations.

One of the measures being taken by the police to stem insecurity is community policing under which 40, 000 non-police officers are to be recruited across the country (50 per local government area). Is it the right step in the right direction?

I understand community policing to mean the involvement of communities to police their precinct. I do not think those involved have to be recruited formally to become another security outfit. While not condemning community policing, it is my honest suggestion that the Federal Government should recruit adequate number of trained and well equipped police personnel. It is only then we can know whether the Nigeria Police can deliver on the promise of its mandate or cannot deliver. Multiplication of security outfits may not be helpful.

So, being a regional body, you are not carried along on the initiative. Right?

I said I do not know the details. But my take has always been that there should be enough number of trained and well equipped police personnel for the nation. A situation where so many villages do not have police outposts is never helpful. Therefore, it is unthinking to conclude that state police will be the magic wand.

Many organisations and individuals, including state governors, Afenifere and Ohanaeze, have canvassed state police as solution to the issue of insecurity in the country. Where does community policing leave state police?

I do not have the details of community policing which is not one and the same thing with the police. I am not for state police because I do not believe in multiplication of security outfits. If the number of trained and equipped state police personnel are not adequate, state police would not be the magic wand. What is more, given the way state governors have used State Electoral Commissions to kill democracy at the local government level, governors are most likely to abuse state police for wrong purposes. There is another challenge that state police personnel can take sides during conflicts in those states with diverse citizens.

The question of one monolithic North has been an issue as the Middle Belt says they are not part of the North. Are they right?

The agitations by the Middle Belt was more or less the response to the Willink Commission which brought about Mid Western Region. The late J.S.Tarka wanted Middle Belt Region reminiscent of the Mid-Western Region. Now that states have been created to allay the fear of the minorities of domination by the majority in the country, it stands to reason to submit that the agitation by the Middle Belt Forum is rooted in what no longer exists. If you consider Benue State where the Tiv have been in power since 1999 to the chagrin of the Idoma; if you consider what happens in Kogi State where the Igala hold sway against other minorities; if you consider Borno State where the Kanuri would not allow southern Borno to produce the governor; and if you consider Plateau State where Muslims cannot produce a deputy governor and get appointed as VC of UNIJOS and JUTH; and compare same with what happens in Kaduna and Kebbi states where the Hausa-Fulani hold sway against other ethnic nationalities, then you can hardly avoid the conclusion that the challenges of marginalization is not an exclusive preserve of the big three. All groups in Nigeria abuse their advantages. Furthermore, the Chairman of the Northern States’ Governors Forum is from Plateau State and a non-Muslim. Generals Gowon, Babangida and Abubakar who are among the patrons of ACF are from the North-Central geopolitical zone.

The 2023 presidency is already generating controversy even if it is several years away. Zoning is especially a contentious issue as the South fears power may not go back there after the North would have done eight years. Do you think this fear is justified? To be clear, what is the North’s game plan?

I am of the view that it is too early to start the politics of 2023 when the sitting regime is not up to six months in office. I also do not believe the North has any game plan in a multiparty democracy.

You will recall that in the first republic, (Alhaji Ahmadu Bello) Sardauna’s NPC contested not only with (the late Obafemi) Awolowo’s Action Group and (the late Nnamdi Azikiwe) Zik’s NCNC from the South but also with Aminu Kano’s NEPU and Tarka’s UMBC from the North.

Under the current dispensation when politics of rotation, power shift and zoning is being bandied about, Buhari contested against President Obasanjo from the South in 2003 and President Jonathan in 2011 and 2015. Also in 2019, 76 presidential candidates came from both the North and the South. This at once suggests that there has been no national consensus on rotation or zoning that is accepted and binding on political parties which enjoys the exclusive preserve of presenting candidates for elections.

Southern leaders recently warned against power remaining in the North in 2023 against the backdrop of statements credited to northern leaders like Governor El-Rufai suggesting that power may not shift to the South. How do you respond?

That is their personal opinion and not the position of their political parties. All those who talk of politics of rotation and zoning are not political parties which will present candidates for election. It is only political parties that can present candidates for elections.

The Federal Government has replaced RUGA with the National Livestock Transformation Programme. But southerners say they don’t know the difference between the two concepts and are therefore opposed to any of them. Can you enlighten us?

The same groups opposed to open grazing as panacea to trespasses by nomadic practices are the ones opposed to any intervention by the Federal Government on ranches despite knowing that nomads are landless and limited by both expertise and capacity to establish ranches that can improve security and livestock. They are the same groups who opposed RUGA and now opposed to the National Livestock Transformation Programme. Since the banning of nomads in favour of sedentary practice can improve not only security but also the quality and volume of livestock in the polity and economy, the critics should suggest how best the management of livestock should be that is acceptable to majority of stakeholders. It is not enough to condemn by mere declaration laced with threats and intimidation without any suggestions.

The Fulani have been painted as a difficult race going by the activities of killer herdsmen. What is ACF doing to address the issue?

Difficult in what ways? Though landless, I have not heard the Fulani talking that farmers should fence their farms. Mind you, there are Fulani herdsmen and farmers. What ACF does is to appeal to both herders and farmers not to take the law into their hands and stifle security which both need for livestock and farming to flourish.

President Buhari is a northerner. But there is this perception that his government hasn’t performed over the past four and a half years. Is ACF worried?

If his regime did not perform in the last tenure as suggested by you, how come his regime was not rejected but re-elected in 2019 with larger margin of 3.9m votes compared to the margin of 3m votes in 2015?

Nigeria at 59, many southerners believe northerners are slowing the country down. How do you respond?

How is the North slowing them down? Does the North determine how state governments are run? Does the Federal Government under President Buhari determine the usage of allocations to their states? It may be fact of history that education arrived in the South a century earlier than when it reached the North amid stiff resistance by perhaps Islam, a resistance which Boko Haram sect still echoes. But that has not affected the South in any way. A man from the South once accused the North of killing agriculture because of oil. But I told him that Malaysia did not collect the palm oil seedlings from the North. Yet southerners are the major importers of palm oil from Malaysia.

How has North fared in 59 years given the thinking that northern leaders have ruled for the most part and that section has been more backward than the South?

But the South has ruled for more years under the nascent democracy. The military junta who ruled did not do so on behalf of the North. And if we compare the socio-economic status of the North by way of number of universities, schools, roads, etc with what obtains today, however, the pace, majority of northerners count their blessings one-by-one. The only regret is the insecurity posed by insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, etc, most of which have been exported to the North from the South but which we hope to overcome. After all, we know that over the long history of nations and long lives of individuals, the powerful and the powerless, the rich and the poor often switch places. Our situation is not beyond redemption given purposeful leadership and the best of every northerner.

What does the North think about the Igbo separatist group IPoB?

PoliticsKogi Guber: Miyetti Allah Endorses Bello For Second Term by akelicious(op): 6:01pm On Sep 28, 2019
The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has adopted Gov. Yahaya Bello as its candidate for the forthcoming Nov. 16 governorship election in the state.

The National Organising Secretary of the group, Alhaji Aliyu Saleh, who made the declaration at a news conference in Lokoja on Saturday, directed Fulanis in the state to immediately embark on Ruga-to-Ruga campaign for the re-election of Bello.

Saleh said that the group decided to support the governor for providing a secure environment for Fulanis to operate in the state.

“We are also supporting the governor for approving free Contagious Bovine Plurol Pheneumonia (CBPP) vaccination for over 23, 000 cows belonging to our members in the state ,” he said.

The group also commended Bello for putting in place measures which had led to a reduction in clashes between farmers and herders in the state.

It also stated that the governor had given its members a sense of belonging by appointing one of them into his cabinet and by making their leaders members of the traditional councils at the state and local government levels.

The national organising secretary, who was flanked by the state Chairman of MACBAN, Alhaji Umaru Jaido, also said that they decided to endorse Bello’s candidature because of their love for President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Abubakar Ohere, who received the endorsement document on behalf of the governor, thanked the group for adopting Bello as its candidate.

Ohere described Gov. Bello as a leader with a large heart, saying that his priority had always been to provide security for all, irrespective of tribe and religion.

He said that Bello decided to include Fulani leaders in the traditional council to reduce communal clash, especially between farmers and herders.

While thanking the association for the endorsement, the commissioner said the gesture would propel Bello to do more for the people of the state.

PoliticsAllen Onyema: A United Nigeria Will Be Greater Than Europe by akelicious(op): 7:25pm On Sep 27, 2019
The Chairman, Air Peace, Mr Allen Onyema, has said, if Nigeria harnesses its human, natural and natural resources well and embraces unity, the country will be greater than all the countries in Europe put together.

Onyema, who had offered his company’s aircraft to airlift stranded Nigerians in South Africa following the recent xenophobic attacks, made the assertion in Lagos on Thursday during his investiture as an ‘Ambassador of Change’ by a non-governmental organisation, Centre for Change.

The Air Peace boss urged all Nigerians to work together in salvaging the country, saying government alone could not develop the country.

He said, “Nigeria is a country of 378 ethnic nationalities; that means we have a huge diversity. This diversity is supposed to be our strength but it has become an albatross of a kind to us. Why can’t we manage our diversity for the good and development of our nation?

“This country is blessed. The resources – human, natural and mineral resources we have in this country, if well harnessed, and if we do things in unity, this country will be greater than all the countries of Europe put together.”

PoliticsIPOB Gets Finally Registered As An Entity In Japan by akelicious(op): 3:29pm On Sep 26, 2019
It is heartwarming to state here that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has officially been recognized and registered by the Japanese Government. The IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu himself, received the authorisation certificate from the government.

Family Writers Press International, has presently obtained a report about the presentation of the certificate to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, fully confirming the registration of Biafra as an entity in Japan.
We had few days ago, reported the arrival of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in Japan, heralding his emergency meeting and crucial diplomatic mission in that powerful Asian country, towards the total restoration of the sovereignty of the nation of Biafra.

Recall that in the past few weeks and days, the IPOB leader visited the European Union parliamentarians in Brussels, Belgium and United Nations officials in Geneva, Switzerland, where he respectively, tendered official reports pertaining relentless and despicable spate of challenges Biafrans have been through in the hands of the Fulani oligarchical Nigerian government.

“The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), had since inception, gone through all forms of inhuman and degrading treatments which include: illegal arrests and detentions, killings during peaceful and rightful demonstrations on the streets of Asaba, Aba, Onitsha, Enugu, Abakiliki, Yenegoa, Igweocha, Umuahia, etcetera”, an activist angrily stated.

Meanwhile, we gathered that during the meeting between the Japanese officials and Biafrans on Sunday 22nd September 2019, the IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was duly and officially presented with an Officially Sealed Certificate from the Government of Japan, fully recognising the Indigenous People of Biafra as an entity in the country.

It is noteworthy to state here that IPOB as a civilized and disciplined freedom agitating mass movement globally, has also been fully registered and recognized in Germany, Spain, United States of America and Israel amongst others, quite unlike Miyetti Allah and Arewa Consultative Forum who sponsor the marauding Fulani Islamic killer herdsmen across Nigeria.

PoliticsBuhari Must Remove Terrorist Tag On IPOB - Group Tells UN by akelicious(op): 4:07am On Sep 25, 2019
An Igbo group, Voice from the East (VEAST), yesterday in Enugu pleaded with the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to use the opportunity of its ongoing meeting in the United States of America (USA) to mount pressure of President Muhammadu Buhari to remove the terrorist tag on the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The group, in a statement signed by its convener, Comrade Kindness Jonah, stated that the invitation extended to the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, by the European Parliament, is evident that the group is championing self-determination.

“We have been inundated with the outcome of the invitation of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to address European Parliament on the issue of Biafra. Many have expressed reservations on the invitation by the body on somebody that the Nigerian Government tagged ‘a terrorist’.

VEAST pointed out that the terrorist tag on IPOB by Buhari–led government when juxtaposed with the invitation and Nkanu’s landmark address had been “rubbished”.

Commenting further, Jonah queried: “How can a leader of a terrorist ‘group’ be invited to address such a body like European Parliament, yet, Nigerian government calls it terrorist group?

Speaking sarcastically, he said: “IPOB is a terrorist group, but European Parliament invited it; killer herdsmen are aberrantly killing but are not terrorist group, yet, they could not be invited, and Boko Haram, a ‘co- terrorist group’ with IPOB could not be invited.

“Nigeria by this episodic invitation has been pragmatically presented as a Hobbesian state and theater of absurdities. This two ideologues are irreconcilable.”

As if invitation by European Parliament was not enough, stressed Comrade Jonah, United Nations Special Committee of the General Assembly has invited Nnamdi Kanu, the first Nigerian to be so honoured, to speak on Biafra issues as did the European Parliament, the group claimed.

“VEAST is therefore calling on UN to prevail on President Muhammadu Bihari to remove the terrorist tag on IPOB and dialogue with the group like they are doing with bandits, killer herdsmen and kidnappers in the North,” he said.

The group said it has come to the firm conclusion that “semantics of a religious order and not stubborn facts was squarely responsible for the fiendish tag of a terrorist group on IPOB by the government”.

Comrade Jonah called on the Federal Government to unconditionally cancel the unfounded terrorist tag on IPOB and perfectly restructure Nigeria, if it ever thought of stopping Biafra agitation.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency ( NDLEA) has said that it has arrested 16 suspected drug dealers and users in Dutse metropolitan.

He said the suspects were arrested at the premises of the State headquarters of the All Progressives Congress ( APC) in Dutse.

Mr. Oko explained that the raid was carried out by the NDLEA on Sunday evening in response to several complains by the public on the activities of drug users that use the party office to perpetuate their illicit acts.

“The raid was carried out following several complaints from the public of the nefarious activities of illicit drug users at the ‎premises of the APC headquarter in the state capital, Dutse” he stated.

He said several wraps of cannabis was recovered at the point of the raid and those arrested would be prosecuted latest after investigation.

State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Nasiru Dahiru confirms the raid and arrests‎ by the NDLEA, but, however, refute that the suspects were members of the APC.

PoliticsBayelsa Guber: PDP Has Better Candidate – Senator Diffa by akelicious(op): 12:32pm On Sep 23, 2019
Senator Emmanuel Diffa, former lawmaker, has said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has a better candidate for the November governorship election in Bayelsa State.

Diffa made the claim while speaking with newsmen on Sunday said that it was laughable to begin to compare PDP’s candidate, Senator Douye Diri, with David Lyon, stressing that Diri would win Bayelsa State for the party.

He maintained that it was true that some nerves were frayed after the party’s primary election, where some felt that any of the other aspirants could have been chosen.

He pointed out that it was common in elections for people to feel aggrieved after any election but maintained that PDP as a party would always pride itself with experienced and grassroots members.

Diffa said that Diri as a grassroots politician would deliver the state to the party.

He stressed that issues related to the primary election were being addressed and he was hopeful that the other aspirants would close ranks, work for electoral victory for the party.

“We are sure of victory. You just mentioned that one of our chieftains said that Timi Alaibe should have been the candidate. Our party is blessed with great men and that is why some people could feel that Alaibe or any other aspirant should have emerged but I don’t agree that Diri would lose to Lyon.

“Diri is an experienced and grassroots politician and he would deliver Bayelsa to our party. We are reconciling aggrieved members and they would work with Diri to give victory to the party so that we would continue with the transformation work of Seriake Dickson. Bayelsa State is on upward movement that is the reason we would ensure that PDP continues to control leadership of the state,” he said.

PoliticsEl-rufai Fulfill One Of His Campaign Promise As He Enrols Son In Public School by akelicious(op): 12:19pm On Sep 23, 2019
In fulfillment of the promise he made in 2017, Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has enrolled his six year old son, Abubakar into primary one in Capital School Malali, a public school in Kaduna.

The governor on Monday was accompanied by his wife Aisha Ummi to the school where their son commenced his primary education.

El-Rufai while speaking as guest of Freedom Radio’s Hausa phone-in programme ”Barka da War haka” in 2017 had said he will revamp public schools in Kaduna state and promised to enroll his child in a public school when he turns six years.

“The move is part of reforms to revamp public schools in the state to make them more competitive,” he said.

“We are determined to fix public education and raise their standards so that private education will become only a luxury.”

“As we make progress, we will require our senior officials to enroll their children in public schools.

“And I will by personal example ensure that my son that will be six years of age in 2019 will be enrolled in a public school in Kaduna State, by God’s grace,” El-Rufa’i had said.

Briefing newsmen shortly after he enrolled the child, El-Rufa’i explained that it was a commitment that had been fulfilled.

“I made that commitment because I believe that it is only when all political leaders have their children in public schools that we will pay due attention to quality of public education.

“I went to a public school like this. In fact, the school I went to is not as good as this one, but here I am, because of the quality teaching I got.

“My intention is to ensure that all our public schools offer quality education, and so we are encouraging all our senior public servants to send their children to public schools.

“Once the public schools are improved to a point they are nearly as good or even better than private schools, no one will waste his money taking his child to private school,” he said.

On his part, the little child said: “I am sad that I will miss my old school, my friends and my teachers. But I have to help my father keep his promise” .

Ummi El-Rufa’i, the mother of the child said: “l am glad that we are able to send a strong message to our leaders and the elites, that we need to start making things work from within our homes.

“By the time we start attending public hospitals and send our children to public schools, the system will get better. This is a very huge step,” she said.

PoliticsSowore’s Trial Will Dent Your Image – Shehu Sani Tells Buhari by akelicious(op): 4:00am On Sep 23, 2019
Former federal lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has condemned charges of treason and felony levelled against pro-democracy campaigner, Omoyele Sowore, by the government.

In a statement on Sunday in Abuja, Sani described the trial as unnecessary and uncalled for, adding that the action would further stain and diminish the human rights record of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government.

He said, “Sowore’s charges amount to electrocution of freedom.

“The democratic credentials of any elected government is not simply about the legitimacy of its mandate but about the degree of its tolerance to dissent and compliance with the fundamental principles of freedom.

“I appeal to the government to drop the charges filed against Sowore.

“Our democracy is becoming inhabitable and inhospitable to its ideal content.

“When a state equates dissent to disloyalty, it progressively decays under the weight of its courtiers.”

Sani added that if the government was confident of moral standing and support base, it should defeat Sowore with superior ideas.

FamilyEmir Warns Peasants Against Polygamy by akelicious(op): 1:10pm On Sep 22, 2019
Alhaji Attahiru Ahmed, Emir of Anka in Zamfara, has cautioned low income earners against marrying more than one wife.

Ahmed, who gave the warning on Sunday in Anka, said that multiple marriages was worsening the economic situation of the poor and making them even poorer.

He spoke during the distribution of some women empowerment items donated by Hajia Aisha Bello-Matawalle, wife of the state governor.

The items were distributed to women from Anka, Bakura, Bukuyyum, Gummi, Maradun and Talata-Mafara local governments areas in Zamfara West Senatorial District.

“Civil servants on a salary of N15,000 a month marry more than one wife and end up raising families they cannot catter for.

“It is this attitude that is responsible for increasing out-of-school children because the parents cannot shoulder the responsibility.

“People should marry in accordance with their earnings to ensure that their children have sound education and good moral background,” he counseled.

The emir advised beneficiaries of the gesture to make good use of their packages in order to be economically-self reliant and support their families.

The Nigeria News Agency , reports that various speakers, in their remarks at the occasion, commended the governor’s wife for the gesture and expressed optimism that it would aid the war against poverty and improve living standards in the rural settlements.

They also urged people to plan their lives in accordance with their means.

PoliticsINEC Moves Against ‘threats’ To Kogi Gov Poll by akelicious(op): 8:14am On Sep 20, 2019
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has directed its officials to identify any risk or threat that may disrupt the conduct of the Kogi governorship election scheduled to hold on November 16, this year.

The commission’s national commissioner, Mrs. Amina Zakari, gave the directive Thursday in Lokoja while declaring open a two-day workshop for electoral officers, assistant electoral officers and some staff from the state and federal offices of the commission.

She said identifying early challenges to the smooth conduct of the election would help the commission to eliminate them “before it is too late.”

Zakari said the commission “depends heavily on its field officers for the success of the election,” stressing that it had put in place an Election Monitoring and Support System (EMSC) for easy coordination of field activities before and during the election.

She urged them to have good knowledge of happenings in their environment and advised them to always ensure prompt submission of reports and uploading of data to enable the headquarters to intervene on time.

Zakari also urged them to take full charge of the management of the election, saying that they must ensure absolute monitoring of ad-hoc staff under their control and ensure early distribution of election materials to polling units.

She said the workshop was organised to determine the readiness of the staff for the coming election, adding that it was also an opportunity for them to refresh their knowledge.

The commission’s national commissioner in charge of Kogi, Kwara and Nasarawa states, Alhaji Mohammed Haruna, in his remarks, said the EMSC was put in place to track implementation of electoral activities to have a better control on election management.

PoliticsSenate Seeks Support To Fix Nigeria by akelicious(op): 4:34am On Sep 20, 2019
The Senate Thursday called on Nigerians to give all necessary support to federal government in its bid to fix the myriad of problems facing the nation.

This was coming just as the Permanent Secretary in the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Ambassador Mustapha Suleiman, disclosed that a total of 821 Nigerians are to be evacuated home from South Africa due to the recent xenophobic attacks in the country.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Ahmed Bulkachua, at a meeting of the committee with Foreign Affairs Ministry top officials, made a strong call on Nigerians to rally round the government in getting Nigeria fixed for the good of all through required patriotism.

Apparently worried by the fate of the returning Nigerians vis-a-vis the prevailing challenges at home, Bulkachua said the situation on ground is fixable as it was with Ghana in the 1980s.

According to him, “If Ghana whose economy was in shambles in the 80s with over hundred of Cedis exchanging for $1 can positively turn her situation around to what it is today with 4.2 Cedis exchanging for a dollar, Nigeria can also do same if both the government and the governed can put their acts together in that respect.”

He was, however, quick to add that as it is with other nations of the world, there would be no situation where all Nigerians will remain in Nigeria.

“Not even developed or great countries of the world like the United States of America (USA), the Republic of China etc, have all their citizens domiciled at home. But what must be addressed by us is to put things in proper shape so that those, who will be travelling out, will largely be for excursion or tourism reason and not greener pasture, as it is now.”

Speaking earlier on what the Nigerian government would be tabling before its South African counterpart during the forthcoming state visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to South Africa, Sulaiman said a wide range of issues would be tabled at the bi-national commission.

He explained that during the visit, Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and agreements between the two countries would be signed on means of preventing and mitigating such attacks in the future.

“Besides that, composite wise, during the visit, required mechanisms will be put in place for the Nigerian High Commission there to have a variety of information on Nigerians resident in South Africa,” he added.

Suleiman revealed that over 800 Nigerians affected by the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa are to return to Nigeria. “As at Wednesday (September 18), about 821 Nigerians affected by the recent xenophobic attacks have either been evacuated home or indicated interest for that purpose,” he said.

HealthStop Consuming Non Iodine Salt, NAFDAC Urges Nigerians by akelicious(op): 10:40am On Sep 17, 2019
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has advised Nigerians to stop the consumption of non iodine salt, saying “it is dangerous to human health.”

Dr Abubakar Jimoh, the Director of Public Affairs of the agency gave the advice in an interview with Nigeria News Agency in Abuja on Tuesday.

The director spoke while responding to the rumour that people in the rural communities were still consuming the local salt, which was not processed.

He said that the consumption of such local salt could lead to goiter and other dangerous diseases to human health and called on Nigerians to do away with the product.

According to the director, there are four areas in Nigeria where traditional salt is still being traded, particularly in Nasarawa state.

“NAFDAC is making effort to stop the trading of this salt in these states but some of them have refused.
“With the creation of NAFDAC in 1993, that was the first time and there was still major work to be done on salt consumption.

“We have organised sensitisation workshop on universal salt iodinsation.

“We have been educating Nigerians that we should not be consuming this local salt because it is not iodine.

“We began a programme in collaboration with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Funds (UNICEF), Micro Nutrient Initiative, Global Alliance and other development partners on the issue.

“We flag-off a campaign against that and it was held in Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, in 2004 under late Professor Dora Akunyili as the Director General of the agency.

According to Jimoh, based on the work NAFDAC did then, Nigeria was declared universal salt iodinsation compliance in Turkey and also won numerous awards in that regards.

“Nasarawa is one of the identified four major endemic areas, they have insisted that it is their traditional source of making livelihood, it is commerce for them.
“They have told NAFDAC as at that time that if they must leave the trade, what they will be trading on must be provided for them,” the director disclosed.

He, however, called on those who are still trading amd consuming non iodine salt in Nasarawa to stop it, adding that such act was capable bringing setback to the country.

PoliticsBreaking: Seun Onigbinde Quits As Budget Technical Adviser by akelicious(op): 2:48pm On Sep 16, 2019
BudgIT founder, Oluseun Onigbinde, whose appointment as technical adviser to the Minister of Budget, has generated some furore, has quit, barely days after he took the job.

In a statement, titled, AN UPDATE ON MY RECENT APPOINTMENT, Onigbinde, a critic of the Buhari administration, said he has resigned the appointment.

His resignation followed the same pattern like Dr. Festus Adedayo’s another Buhari critic, who was initially appointed as special adviser to Senate President Ahmad Lawan.

“I am very grateful to the Honourable Minister, Prince Clem Ikanade Agba, for believing in my expertise and I also thank everyone who sent his or her congratulations to me in the short period. I have also been humbled by the faith and belief that numerous persons have expressed in me”, Onigbinde said.

Read his full statement:

Friends,
Kindly recall that I sent out a note recently on my interest to seek new experiences and that I would be working as a Technical Adviser to the Minister of State for Budget and National Planning for a short period.

It is clear that recent media reports about my appointment have created a complex narrative, which I believe would engender an atmosphere of mistrust, as I planned to proceed.

Upon further reflections on the furore that has been generated by my new role as the Technical Adviser to the
Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, I humbly resign the appointment.

I am very grateful to the Honourable Minister, Prince Clem Ikanade Agba, for believing in my expertise and I also thank everyone who sent his or her congratulations to me in the short period. I have also been humbled by the faith and belief that numerous persons have expressed in me.

My sincere interest is to see a Nigeria that grows and optimises resources for the benefits of all Nigerians.

My loyalty to the good cause of our nation, Nigeria compelled me to accept the call to provide technical skills and this experience has more than strengthened it.

I also want to wish the Nigerian Government, led by President Muhammadu Buhari, well. I will always be of help to the federal government in my capacity as the Director of BudgIT, a critical fiscal transparency group, as I have been to several agencies. I would also work to ensure that BudgIT continues to build civic awareness on the right of every Nigerian to know how public resources are managed.

Thank you all.

God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.’

Since Seun’s appointment was made public, he has been the object of attacks by fans who questioned his credibility as a Buhari critic, only to agree to work under the same government.

On Sunday, the influential Buhari Media Organisation, weighed in and asked him to quit.

BMO said the appointment was a travesty that desecrates the characters of honour and integrity which are the hallmarks of President Muhammadu Buhari and those who are called to serve in his government.

In a statement signed by Niyi Akinsiju and Cassidy Madueke, BMO’s Chairman and Secretary respectively, the group wondered how “an imbalanced caustic denigrator of the government of President Buhari would be called to serve in the same administration he had described in the most unpalatable terms.

“Seun Onigbinde lacks honour and integrity, which are characters known of President Buhari, and thus could not be in the same team with him.

“He has severally described the President with the most distasteful terms, and has shown, especially on social media, that he sees nothing good in the administration of President Buhari.

” Onigbinde had also gone to the shameful extent of describing those who support the President and his administration as ‘ethnic jingoists’. He once referred to the President as ‘incompetent’, and accused him of being a dictator committing illegality.

“We cannot but wonder that this same man accepted an appointment to serve in this same administration he has described in the most odious terms. It shows he lacks honour.

“He perhaps was browbeating all the while so he could achieve some notice and be sneaked in at night into the same government he publicly threw invectives at”.

BMO added that Mr Onigbinde lacked decency and morality to reject the said appointment if indeed he believed in those insults he had publicly hurled at Buhari and his administration

“We believe that a man must stand for something, and live by it. If Seun was called by anyone to take an appointment in a government he ridiculed and called illegal and dictatorial, he should have turned it down, if he had any decency or morals”.

In a reaction to criticism about the appointment, Onigbinde said the appointment was at the initiative of an international development agency. And that it would last for six months.

“Friends, I have accepted to take up an advisory role underwritten by an international development agency for
an initial period of six months . I believe that to guard the reputation of BudgIT, I need to take an operational
break and make my new position public. In a technical advisory role, I shall be supporting the Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Agba, along the issues of budget reform, development planning, and
revenue growth.

“It is similar to a task Joseph Agunbiade (my BudgIT co- founder) and I worked on in 2013–14, under the DFID-FEPAR program for the National Assembly Budget and Research Office.

“I see this as an adventure considering an accepted steep curve on public sector structure. I wish to state I
remain loyal to my values — of appreciating the right of every citizen tomask the hard questions; that public
resources must be accounted for; and that civic spaces and individual rights must be keenly protected.

“I have spoken to our partners, advisory board, and mentors, and I believe this is part of multi-pronged approach towards accelerating the long-term objectives of BudgIT and exploring new experiences. I will constantly review the objectives that I have set for this period and provide updates as I proceed.

“My belief in the capacity of BudgIT, led by Gabriel Okeowo, to do great work in demanding effective transparency and accountability remains unshaken”.

PoliticsKatsina Senator Drills 5 Motorize Boreholes In Daura by akelicious(op): 12:43pm On Sep 16, 2019
The Senator representing Katsina North Senatorial District, Ahmed Babba-Kaita, has commenced drilling of five motorized boreholes across some selected communities in Daura Local Government Area as part of his constituency project.

Malam Lawal Shinku, the Senior Legislative Aide to Babba-Kaita stated this to the Nigeria News Agency at one of the project site in Daura on Monday.

Shinku said that the projects were expected to be completed within one month.

The aide said the boreholes would be drilled in five communities that include Ganga, Kofar Arewa, Dannakola, Gara and Kurneji villages.

“A 1,000 litre capacity water tank will be mounted on each of the boreholes to ensure adequate water supply.
“The project is part of our efforts to boost water supply in the communities.”

Shinku added that the senator recently established computer centres in Zango, Sandamu, Bindawa and Mani Local Government Areas to promote computer literacy in the areas.

He said the centres, each with capacity to accommodate 50 people, are fully functional while competent resource persons have been employed to man them for effective service delivery.

Shinku added that the lawmaker had also facilitated the procurement and installation of 500KVA transformers in Maiadua and Sandamu local government areas to improve power supply.

Politics95 Per Cent Of Properties In Edo Don’t Have C Of Os – Official by akelicious(op): 3:56pm On Sep 15, 2019
The Edo Government has said that only 30,000 Certificate of Occupancy (CofOs), were issued by it in 50 years, which includes the period of Midwest State, Bendel State and the present Edo.

Mr Frank Evbuomwan, the Managing Director, Edo State Geographic Information Service (EDOGIS) told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin on Sunday the issued C of Os covered only five per cent of the properties in the state, adding that EDOGIS was poised to change this.

He said that the agency, which became fully operational in 2018, had so far issued no fewer than 1,200 C of Os, with a target to issue 10,000 in 2020 alone.

The official said that not only had the issuance of C of Os been digitised, the process had been made easier and also cheaper.

According to him, “With less than seven weeks after making payment, you are sure to have your C of O.

”It comes at a reduced amount, a quarter of the several hundreds of Naira spent on the same certificate before now, depending on the size of the property.

“We have digitalised the manual process of land administration in the state; EDOGIS has ensured efficiency and effectiveness in land administration in the state.

”So far, we have issued about 1200 C of Os, bearing in mind that we started about a year ago.

“Unlike the features that characterised the former certificates, especially with the ability to easily fake it, this new one comes with a lot of features such that it will be extremely impossible to be faked.

“It comes with a water marked features that you can barely see. There is also a machine readable encode, among other features,” he said.

The EDOGIS boss said that the agency which is set up as a quasi-private sector driven government agency, had carried out the aerial survey of all the urban centres of the state.

He added that the aerial survey would be extended to the rural areas.

“What this means is that we now have a graphical representation of what properties look like in the state, we are now tying that to the owners.

“Our aim is to eliminate the grey areas to properties ownership in the state in the next few months.

”This will be a major boost to investors because when they come in, they can get genuine and factual ownership of properties in the state.

“This has always been a major problem to investors in the state. They can now get reliable information on land.

”Before now, some investors pay multiple times for properties and this scare many away. Now they have easy way to verify ownership of a property.

“In addition to this, for those who have registered their properties, they now have a verifiable document they can use to unlock hidden capital on their properties,” he said.

While noting that the agency was still far at meeting it set target, he said part of the objective was to collect and digitise all data in and around ownership of land in the state.

“What we have done is that we have taken few steps in the right direction. We want a situation where the dispute over ownership of land will be a thing of the past; whether by individual, communities or government.

“It will surprise you to know that C of Os covers less than 5 per cent of the properties in this entire state. It is however not Edo problem, it is a Nigeria problem.

“People have all sorts of land titles that are not formal; Oba’s approval, fathers or what have you. We are raising the bar by providing a unified system of titling properties. Unified and verifiable system.

“However, my greatest achievement will be to finally break the back of dubious ownership of properties in the state, and the way we can do this is to digitalise not less than 50 per cent of the properties in the state,” he said.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mrs. Lola Fagbemi has urged couples to make God the basis of their marriage.

She also charged the newly wedded couple to put God first, be sincere to themselves, desist from extramarital affairs, as it could do much harm to their marriage and life.
