HealthFrancis Faduyile: Nigeria Has Only 42,000 Doctors by akelicious(op): 5:52am On Dec 16, 2019
President of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Dr. Francis Faduyile, has raised the alarm over shortage of healthcare practitioners in the country, saying only 42,000 doctors are available for Nigeria’s population of over 200 million people.

He said high rate of insecurity, poor job satisfaction, low remuneration, unemployment, bad roads, and poor healthcare system were some of the reasons why Nigerian doctors and other healthcare practitioners were leaving the country for greener pastures abroad.

Speaking with Akelicious yesterday, the NMA president said about 75,000 Nigerian doctors were registered with the body, but over 33,000 have left the country, leaving behind only about 42,000 to man all health institutions in the country.

He said: “In rural areas, we have one doctor to 22,000 people, while in towns and cities, we have one doctor to 10,000 Nigerians or one doctor to 12,000 Nigerians, whereas the World Health Organisation (WHO) said for any country to have a balanced ratio, it must have one doctor to 600 persons.

“Nigerian doctors and other healthcare workers, including nurses and pharmacists, are leaving the country in droves because of the poor healthcare system and lack of job satisfaction.

“The United Kingdom employs, on the average, 12 Nigerian doctors every week. If Nigeria decides to graduate 3,000 doctors every year, without the doctors leaving this country, it will take us 25 years to meet the WHO estimate of one doctor to 600 persons,” he said.

Faduyile said the UK, where most Nigerian doctors were migrating to, has many doctors for her population, whereas reverse was the case in Nigeria.

The president had earlier mentioned during the 10th Annual Symposium of the Health Writers Association of Nigeria (HEWAN) in Lagos recently that there was a huge deficit in the nation’s health sector due to brain drain as some of the best healthcare practitioners were leaving the country through migration to more favourable countries.

The NMA president said: “Nigeria is losing some of its most educated, talented and professional healthcare practitioners to countries such as Namibia, Senegal, Ghana, UK, South Africa and many others.

“This is because the government is not interested in giving adequate priority to health, low funding, no appropriate employment, low remuneration, lack of equipment to intervene and save lives, insecurity, bad roads, among other problems.

“Now, it is taking a toll on the country as our people are suffering due to the shortage of workers, people are dying due to lack of effective healthcare system and Nigeria has one of the worst health indices in the world,” he said.

RomanceRe: Two-Month Relationship, My Worst Nightmare by akelicious(m): 6:07am On Dec 15, 2019
Henvest:
There is this shop I normally stock my house from then. One day I came to buy things as usual, the guy, the owner of the shop introduced one girl to me telling me she is his sister. After that day I stopped seeing the guy but only the girl in the shop.

One day I traveled, while on the travel someone called, introduced herself and explained who she is. Obviously she took my number from my younger brother staying with me. She pretended to be angry with me for not telling her am traveling and for me not knowing her name before then. Of course I apologized but she demanded I should take her out when am back before she will accept my apology I obliged.

I came back kept to my promise but made it in an open place, National theater precisely.
But then she booked another date next week but insisted it won't be open place anymore.. The rest is history.

One day I came to her shop to buy something and over heard a close friend calling her Iyawo Ossy, that wasn't the first I heard someone address her as Iyawo Ossy but I become curious this time because this person is a close friend and should know better. She tried to wave it with excuse of anybody is free to call her what they like but when I insisted, she finally opened up.....

Ossy was not her brother but her fiance with whom she has been together for 6 six years.
But, according to her Ossy is waiting for her to take in before going to see her people.
The reason why both of them chose to be telling people they are siblings remain a mystery to me till today....

I got mad and call it quit with her for trying to use me to secure marriage. The whole relationship did not last up to 2 months but obviously it was a bit late already.

Weeks later it become obvious she is pregnant, deep inside of me I felt am responsible, but when I ask her she insist it belong to Ossy. I push but she stood her ground insisting it belongs to Ossy.
She went further denying the timing of the pregnancy, if doctor is saying 2 months she will be claiming her pregnancy is 1 month.

To my greatest surprise become hostile and start avoiding me even go further to claim they went for paternity test and the result shows it belong to the guy.

I gave up, dust my self and moved on.
Nine months later she put to bed to a girl..
Months later I move out of that area.
One day my phone rang it was her, she demanded that she need to see me, that she has an important discussion with me. I opt to recharge and call her for us to do the discussion on phone but she insisted so I sent her my new address.

Two days later she came, what she came to tell me was that she is leaving the guy that the marriage thing is not working.
She was seriously crying all through I tried all i could to console her but then one thing lead to another sex happened again. When she is about to leave she told me that am the father of her daughter not Ossy. That the story of going for paternity test was true but that the test never happened because the counsellor they meet ask them to go back and rethink it again but the Ossy changed his mind at the process.

I laugh off the story and asked her to take her leave because to me she is just trying to activate her option B. Two months later she called to inform that she has not seen her period I told her am not Interested in her stories again but then my conscience was never at peace. I keep asking my self what if pregnancy and the girl truly belong to me?

One year plus later I decided to go look for them I told my girl, now fiance and she give her support ..

What I saw when I reached there almost make me cry, her condition is so bad. There and then I decide to come in and start assisting her as much as i can pending when I go for DNA. My family kick against my decision, their reason is that the girl story is not to be trusted, on the other hand my girl was supportive but kick against DNA claiming if it is done and they are not mine my feelings for the kids will change.
But from then I start taking care of their feeding, schooling, clothing, rent e.t.c

After like a year my girl suggest I open business for the girl instead, so that she doesn't have to come to me for everything everytime except school fees and medical bills.

I bought the idea and asked the lady to go look for shop ...
While on that i told her of the need to open account for the kids.

Two days later she came back to tell me that her brothers said she should not change the name of the kids...

That the kids will bear the name of who ever that marry her or the name of her family if the person don't want them.

Now what happened was that, she once told me that she need to change the girls surname to mine. Before then i don't know their surname nor attach any importance to it. So while discussing the idea of opening the account for the girls I innocently suggest that she go do the change of name before opening the account.

I was hit by her responds and her body language so I told her that she and her brothers can go suit theirselves, that from then henceforth I have hands off her matter.

Later that day she called and begged but I told her that the only condition for me to keep assisting her is that she will change their names and also release one of them to me.

She said i should make out time and come down to her base so that we will discuss it. I discuss it with my fiance and she permit me to go. When I get there and raise the topic she flame up telling me she won't try it, that that is the position of her family.

Obviously she was expecting a fight or angry reactions from me so that she can push her terms and agenda to the table ..

But was disappointed when I don't fall for that, she start begging that she can change their names but can't release any to me. I told her is no longer an option.

The meeting end at that and I took my leave, go with the start up capital i was meant to give her for her business.

She sent people to me to beg on her behave but I insisted. Finally she agreed, but with a condition that she (the first girl) must be up to 5years which is few months away then before she release her.

I sense lies in the whole thing but my girl insist I should release the fund for her to start the business of which I did when her pressure become much.

Since then I still pay their school fees nd medical bills...
Late last year the small one did surgery it was on me.

The 1st is 7 now the 2nd is 4 years old.
This year she said she wanna marry, that someone is asking for her hand in marriage
I congratulate her and wish her luck. Then ask her her plan for the kids.

What she answered me is " let the will of God be done"

I called the woman, her friend who first told me about the marriage thing, after much drilling she open up that they have agreed with the man that he is going to marry her the kids.

I don't have any problem with that even though I feel used but my only problem is why lying to me again? At that point am yet to pay their graduation /party fees out of anger I decide am not going to pay it again. I told her to go meet their new father to pay the remaining, but my conscience kept battling me.

My fiance is extremely mad at her now and have withdraw her support and insist I cut of with her entirely .

I understand her, she has been very understanding, supportive and always fighting for them even without knowing them or them knowing her.

I feel so bad for putting her in that position.
That becomes a very messy situation for me now becus I cant afford to ruin my relationship / marriage because of a renowed liar.

But what will be of those kids if I hands off them keep am awake some times at night because I don't wanna be that father that abandon his kids but I cant afford to do anything which my woman do not approve or take her for granted in anyway.

Is obvious she is trying to blackmail me with the kids, But then am not even sure if they are mine ,and she have refused to release them because if she do I can be able to go for DNA. And know what next from there.

For a while now we have not talk, She called two weeks ago that the kids wanna talk to me obviously for school fees I turn it down and warn her against calling my line again ...

I don't know if that is right, I'm confused now.
My another worry now if those kids are mine is,
When it comes to Education we are at opposite end.

She don't attach importance to education but me I attach so much importance to it.
I can't trust her with the education of those kids.
Please I need advise on how to handle things.

Minimum wage: Governors move to meet Dec 31 deadline

Following the threat by the Nigeria Labour Congress that it may not be able to guarantee industrial peace and harmony if governors refuse to conclude negotiations and payment of the National Minimum Wage by December 31, some states that have yet to begin the implementation have commenced negotiations with the labour unions in their states.

According to findings by our correspondents, there are different stages of negotiations in the states that have yet to comply with the new minimum wage, which was signed into law on April 18, 2019 by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

In Plateau State, for example, the state Commissioner for Information, Mr Dan Manjang, told one of our correspondents in an interview on Friday that negotiations with labour unions in the state were still ongoing and that government was aware of the December 31 deadline given by the labour union.

He said government had already set up a committee for that purpose, adding that Governor Simon Lalong was committed to the welfare of workers in the state, even though he did not disclose the exact date the state would commence the payment of the new minimum wage.

Investigations by our correspondent, however, revealed that no formal meeting had taken place between government’s negotiating team and the representatives of labour to discuss modalities for the implementation.

He added, “What I can tell you is that deadline or no deadline, we will pay the new minimum wage to our workers. The governor was among members of the technical committee that arrived at the 30, 000 minimum wage, so there is no way he will turn round to say that he will not pay the workers in his home state.”

In Ekiti State, the Secretary, Ekiti State Joint Public Service Negotiating Council, Gbenga Olowoyo, said on Friday that the council that would negotiate the payment of the new minimum wage in the state had been constituted but that it was expecting government’s committee to call for inaugural meeting so that the negotiations could begin.

Olowoyo said, “We have no doubt about meeting the December 31 deadline and consequent payment of the minimum wage by the state government. Labour in the state had a roundtable with Governor Kayode Fayemi on Tuesday and he reassured us that negotiations would soon begin and that he would implement the resolution at the joint negotiation.”

The state Commissioner for Information, Mr Muyiwa Olumilua, said, “They (the committee) had been doing underground work and that negotiations would soon commence.”

In Delta State Governor, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Mr Olisa Ifejika, said the committee set up by the governor had been meeting to agree on the template for the implementation of the new minimum wage.

He said, “The labour in Delta does not have problem because Governor Okowa had said the state was ready to implement whatever template the Federal Government approved. The committee chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, Chiedu Ebie, has been meeting and will also meet on Monday to look at the modalities of payment.”

In Enugu State, findings showed that government had constituted a five-member negotiation committee, headed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Simon Ortuanya, that would confer with labour on the issue.

The Chairman of the Trade Union Congress in the state, Mr Chukwuma Igbokwe, who confirmed the development to Sunday PUNCH, said the committee met on Monday and setup a technical committee to work out the financial implications of the new law.

Igbokwe said, “When we have worked it out at the technical committee, we will revert to the main committee to start negotiating the consequential adjustment and if there would be need for adjustment.”

He explained that the committee also discussed the sustenance of the payment of 13th month to workers.

In Abia State, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has tasked the Joint Negotiation Committee to work out modalities that would make it seamless for the government to implement the payment of the new minimum wage to workers. He assured the workers that his government was committed to paying the new minimum wage.

While inaugurating the 16-man committee, which has the state Head of Service, Onyi Wamah, as chairman on Friday, the governor, represented by his deputy, Ude Oko Chukwu, also charged them to recommend ways of stopping ghost workers and padding of salaries in the state, saying such practices were responsible for the heavy wage bill in the state.

He mandated them to expedite action and submit their report on or before December 31, 2019.

Meanwhile, in Rivers State, it is not yet clear when the committee on the minimum wage implementation will be set up.

The state NLC chairperson, Mrs Beatrice Utubo, told Sunday PUNCH that a letter had already been sent to Governor Nyesom Wike on the need to set up the negotiation committee on minimum wage.

She said, “‘We have sent a letter to the governor. They have called us to ask us who would constitute the committee and which we have told them. Then we (Rivers State NLC) left for Abuja for a meeting on the minimum wage. I will see the Secretary to the State Government on the issue on Monday.”

The state Head of Service, Mr Rufus Godwin, said he would speak to one of our correspondents on the matter on Monday.

Also, in Imo State, the state Commissioner for Information, Felix Ebilikwe, said on Friday that government would soon announce the minimum wage negotiation committee, noting that the committee would meet up with the December 31 deadline given by labour.

“The governor is labour friendly and Imo State under Governor Emeka Ihedioha will keep civil servants happy,” he added.

In Osun State, the state government kept mum over the issue, even as the organised labour in the state said it had written to the governor, asking him to constitute the team that would discuss the new minimum wage.

The NLC Secretary in the state, Rufus Adeyemi, in an interview with Sunday PUNCH, however said labour was still expecting his reply to the letter.”

In Benue State, an aide to Governor Samuel Ortom, Chief Ode Enyi, on Friday said that the governor would soon set up a committee to meet with labour over the new minimum wage.

When informed of the deadline given by the organised labour, Enyi said, “The labour leaders in the state know that the governor is a lover of workers and will go the extra mile to ensure that workers in the state enjoy.”

Asked if government had received correspondence from the national secretariat of the organised labour, the governor’s aide said no letter had been received.

In Ogun State, the state government said it would soon set up negotiation committee to enhance the payment of the national minimum wage.

The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Kunle Somorin, said, “The organised labour unions have been meeting with our workers-friendly government on the minimum wage issue and an agreement will soon be reached.”

The state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress had few weeks ago threatened a showdown with the government over the minimum wage, saying it had written series of letters to the government but were all ignored.

As a result, the NLC in the state said it could not guarantee industrial harmony.

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Osun State Chapter, Prince Adegboyega Famodun, has said that it is the turn of the South-West to produce Nigeria’s President, after the administration of President Muhammad Buhari.Famodun said this in Osogbo, Osun State, while responding to questions from Newsmen, during a News-Point programme of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalist. The APC Chairman, said that he is not oblivious of the fact that the constitution of the party does not stipulate the rotation, but insisted that commonsense must be applied, and that the South-West must be allowed to produce Buhari’s successor. He stated: “The North has had enough. Are they born to rule forever? South-West should be allowed to produce the next President, after the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. The last time we had it, was when Chief Olusegun Obasanjo was elected as President.”He continued: “Obasanjo’s Presidency was actually a sort of compensation to the South-West, over the death of Chief Moshood Abiola, MKO, the winner of the June 12 Presidential election that was annulled by the Military.“Now, the next President after the administration of President Buhari should come from the South-West. For me in particular, I will not be happy if the North retains the Presidency after Buhari’s administration”, he said.

PoliticsImperatives Of Go-university Doctorate Award On Ugwuanyi, Litany Of Encomiums by akelicious(op): 3:46pm On Nov 29, 2019
Political science is a social science which deals with systems of governance, the analysis of political activities, political thoughts and political behavior.

The Greek thinker and philosopher, Aristotle, defined political science as the study of the state.

Many political scientists are engaged in researching out the connections between political events and conditions, with a view to construct a system of general principles for the practical and functional workings in the world of politics.

Political science is not a standalone field, as it intersects many other discipline like sociology, economics, history, anthropology, public policy among others.
Political scientists are much sought after these days because of the changing landscape of politics across the world and since the society wants to understand how the political world works, they need someone to explain the nuances of the political economy.

Gov .Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who did not study political science at the University has tremendously showcased a character trait that could be likened to that of political science philosophers, having demonstrated great strength and knowledge in systems of governance , political activities, political thoughts and political behavior of Enugu state.

This, is evidenced in his dynamic and people oriented style of politics, resulting in political harmony and accommodation, massive infrastructural development, improved economy, peace and security, timely payment of salaries, prudent, equitable distribution of the state’s resources and appointments of political positions.

In recognition of his steering leadership qualities, political sagacity, political ecumenism and contributions to the growth and development of Godfrey Okoye University, Gov Ugwuanyi was conferred with the award of Doctor of Political Science (DPS), Honoris Causa at the 10th anniversary celebration and sixth and seventh convocation ceremonies of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu.

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State and the former Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Julius Okojie, were also recipients of Honorary Degrees, in recognition of their leadership Excellence and Support to the Catholic University.

The award has been described as very apt as many people before now believed that Governor Ugwuanyi had shown enormous political understanding of Enugu state.

His understanding of political workings of the state, resulting in uncommon development across the state, political pundits believed was responsible for the overwhelming support and avalanche of encomiums from different class of people over his leadership of the state.

Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, who was present at the epoch-making event, delivered the 10th Anniversary Lecture.

Speaking when the governor treated him to a dinner at the Government House, Enugu, after delivering the Anniversary Lecture at the 10th anniversary celebration and sixth and seventh convocation ceremonies of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, former President Jonathan stressed that Ugwuanyi’s inclusive governance style is a rare feat other leaders should emulate to move their constituencies forward.

Jonathan, has expressed delight at the uncommon leadership style of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, in fostering peace and unity among the political class in the state irrespective of party differences.

Former President Jonathan, who described Gov. Ugwunayi as a man of peace said the governor’s disposition in relating with members of the opposition political parties, after winning the election, was commendable and the best approach to governance.

READ Coup Allegation: APC Concocting Lies To Protect Stolen Mandate –Timi Frank
“If you are the governor of a state, you must treat all the citizens equally, irrespective of their political persuasions, otherwise you are not a good governor”, Jonathan said.

It is however on record that Governor Ugwuanyi places peace, humility and justice ahead of any other agenda on his table.

He deploys peace, humility and justice as a tool in the governance of the state.

He believes in the philosophy of political ecumenism to the extent that even the opposition political parties in some cases have more access to him than members of his party .

This, in no small measure had engendered sense of equity and justice.

This humane disposition of the Governor has also succeeded in eradicating the spirit of aggressiveness and politics of bitterness and acrimony previously evident in the state.

Just like Albert Einstein posited that peace is not only an absence of war, but means or includes the presence of justice, law, order or government in the society, Governor Ugwuanyi in his leadership of the state, believes that everybody in the state has the right to enjoy democracy dividends from his government in spite of his or her political affiliation. His government can be best described as government of state Unity considering the fact that he also appointed members of opposition parties in to his government which has never been experienced in the politics of the state.

This attitude of the governor towards a peaceful state has created an in-road in the hearts of political gladiators across political divides who were hitherto exiled or retired from politics of the state because of their divergent political views with previous administrations in the state. Governor Ugwuanyi not only opened his doors to them but attends functions and programmes of opposition political gladiators in the state thereby giving them a true sense of belonging.

No wonder the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the 2019 governorship election in the state, Sen. Ayogu Eze recently joined in the voyage of those who pour encomiums on Gov Ugwuanyi describing him as a man of uncommon political humility and sagacity adding that the people of the state should do well to support the Governor to enable him succeed in the leadership of the state.

Senator Eze who described the leadership qualities of Ugwuanyi as exceptional, said that the Governor’s humility and ability to reach out to the opposition to make peace at all cost has rekindled the long standing relationship between him and the governor.

Speaking at the funeral service of his father-in-law, late Pastor Cyril Odoh Ugwuoke, held at Ogrute, Enugu Ezike, Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, which was attended by Gov. Ugwuanyi and other dignitaries, Senator Eze pointed out that the governor’s presence at the event and his continued show of solidarity and support were uncommon in the political annals of the country.

He disclosed that the governor has made efforts, since after the elections, to ensure that the prior relationship that had existed between both of them before the electoral contest was maintained and stressed that his presence at the event has proved that in so many ways.

Senator Eze therefore declared that the relationship between him and Gov. Ugwuanyi “has resumed” and commended the Governor for his good works as well as the renewed vigour to deliver on his promises in the state. He prayed that God gives him the wisdom to continue with the good works and reach higher levels.
According to Sen. Eze, “The day Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi came to see me, tears rolled down my cheeks. I told him there that his humility and ability to reach out to make peace at all cost is exceptional. I told him, you are much better in reaching out and building networks”.

“I urge all my supporters to close ranks and support Gov. Ugwuanyi and his administration, for He (Ugwuanyi) has won the election; he is our governor; our friendship continues as family members despite fact that I belong to APC.”

“Let us forget about party politics for now. Let us remain brothers and relate together. God will give the governor the wisdom to continue the good work he is doing in Enugu State and take him to higher levels”.

Within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) family in the state, Governor Ugwuanyi has resurrected and revived stakeholders that were confined in political wilderness of the state.

Majority of them were appointed into different political positions in the state.

The Governor practically ensures that everybody has equal right in his government unlike what was the case before when if you are not in the good books of some political stakeholders you are out-rightly blackmailed and distanced from the political activities of the state.

This development has since seen to the return of so many political gladiators including Senator Chimaroke Nnamani, who calls the shot in their various political wards, local governments and the state at large, thereby making the Governor more rooted and accepted politically across the state leading to a litany of supports from communities, groups, associations, institutions etc in spite of their political differences.

In their different remarks and description of Governor Ugwuanyi’s personality, the clergy, traditional institution, leaders of thought, political stakeholders within and outside the state have not failed to express their sense of satisfaction with the way and manner at which the Governor runs the affairs of the state.

To them Governor Ugwuanyi was destined to pilot the affairs of the state at this point in time and deserved to be given the support he needed considering his leadership achievements that has turned the state which hiterto experienced a lot of insecurity, political tensions and crisis among the titans in the politics of the state into a safe haven for investments and industrial sites.

The clergy community have been in the lead of those pouring encomiums on the governor for his leadership accumen. The Apostolic Nuncio to Nigeria, Archbishop Antonio Filipazzi, during his visit to Enugu for an evangelical duty, hailed Gov. Ugwuanyi for “his closeness to God and exemplary leadership style, which has brought peace and good governance to the state.

You are a good governor and a father to all, who has faithfully served the church and residents of the state, irrespective of religion, state of origin and ethnicity”.

In the same vein, the Anglican Communion, through the Archbishop of Enugu Ecclesiastical Province, Most Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Chukwuma has at various times said that Gov Ugwuanyi was phenomenal adding that his commitment to peace and good governance as well as the development of the Church and love for the poor masses was unequalled, describing Gov. Ugwuanyi as a non-discriminating politician who respects elders, the youth and also maintains cordial relationship with leaders of other political parties.

READ 82 die as soldiers, terrorists clash in Cameroon
Similarly, the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria (AMEN), Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has also at various fora poured encomiums on the governor, describing him as “a good, kindhearted, humble, peace-loving and God-fearing leader”, who has judiciously managed the lean resources of the state for the benefit of the people.

In his description of the Governor, a political stakeholder, former governor of old Enugu State and also former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo also described Gov Ugwuanyi as “a humble, indefatigable, humane and outstanding manager of men and resources, for the development of Enugu State.

We will not be tired of commending your performance, pray for you and eulogize your uncommon leadership style”.

For Senator Chimaroke Nnamani, Gov Ugwuanyi is a man of Grace, honour, uncommon valour, humility and Godly. According to Nnamani, these are very scarce human qualities but are very much in abundance in Gov Ugwuanyi whom he said has grown from being his political godson to become his political leader

The former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu has continually said that Enugu state had survived political turbulence as a result of the peaceful disposition and leadership qualities of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi adding “irrespective of political party differences, both leaders of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state had embraced peace and harmony”.

A women leader, a BOT member of the PDP and an astute politician, Ambassador Justina Eze, in her views, said that Ugwuanyi was governing the people according to the rules and regulations of governance and has attracted so much development to the state through opening of the rural areas with road networks, empowered so many poor women and men in all the markets of the state, improved quality health care in the state among other numerous achievements.

These above encomiums and positive remarks on Governor Ugwuanyi is not limited to members of the PDP as members of the major opposition political party in the state, the All Progressives Congress (APC), such as the former Governor of old Anambra state, Senator Jim Nwobodo, former Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani, the South East National Vice Chairman of APC, Hon. Emma Eneukwu, APC chieftain and Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu among others, had also on different occasions applauded Gov. Ugwuanyi for his sense of sense of humor, respect, political ecumenism, bi-partisan philosophy and respect for the low and mighty despite their political affiliation.

The traditional rulers in the state are not left out as the Royal Fathers, led by the Chairman, Ambassador Lawrence Agubuzu, converged at the Lion Building and poured blessings and encomiums on Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi urging him to soldier on with his people oriented style of leadership in the state.

These avalanche of encomiums from different classes of people in the state and beyond on Governor Ugwuanyi’s mode of governance justifies the honorary doctorate degree award in Political Science recently conferred on the Governor by the Godfrey Okoye University Enugu.

The award is no doubt a motivation to further provide transformational governance to Enugu people.

CelebritiesI Saw Wizkid As Superstar Before He Became One – Banky W by akelicious(op): 4:35am On Nov 13, 2019
Nigerian singer, actor and filmmaker, Bankole Wellington, a.k.a Banky W has emphasized the importance of seeing into the future.

At a recent youth gathering tagged ‘Monday Night Life’ held on November 4, 2019, the famous entertainer revealed why he called Wizkid a superstar when he (Wizkid ) was just starting off.

At the event hosted by Nigerian eclectic gospel artiste, Tim Godfrey, Banky also narrated his rise from the ashes of rejection to becoming a formidable force in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

“When we started EME back then , we were looking for an album title for Wizkid’s first album. I was thinking ‘What do we call it? One day I told my team we were going to call the album ‘Superstar’. My partners asked why? I said to them, we need to already set the expectation. I called him a superstar ever before he became one .

“This is not about ‘I am a new artiste, this is my first album, it will take me a few years to be a star’. We said that with this album, you are a superstar already. We had to say that so that when people see it, they would know how to respond to what we were trying to do. It sounded funny but it was an act of faith. The secret to achieving any goal is to take a step of faith,” he said.

Speaking further, Banky narrated his ordeal while trying to pursue his passion for music.

“We reached out to record labels and didn’t get any feedback so we just kept putting music out independently. I recall that we used to put it on My Space and Hi5 back then. So we just used the tools that were available to us. One day we said to ourselves, if we really believe in this music, let’s stop waiting for someone to discover us, let us take a step of faith,” he added.

PoliticsOsinbajo Will Come Out Stronger From Travails, Says Cleric by akelicious(op): 6:50am On Nov 11, 2019
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will come out stronger from the political challenges he is facing at the presidency, says the Assistant Provincial Pastor for Youth, North Province 6 of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Tunde Benjamins-Laniyi.

The pastor in charge of The Throneroom Parish noted challenges as part of life with no exemption, adding that one’s faith in God would make him an overcomer.

In an interview with journalists after a special church service which had in attendance the General Overseer of RCCG, Enoch Adeboye, yesterday in Abuja, the cleric described Osinbajo as a man of so much faith in God.

His words, “Everybody faces challenges; they are part of human life. Everything works together for good for them that love God. There is time for everything; time to cry and time to laugh. Nobody, no matter how highly-placed, is exempted from challenges. But the beauty of it is that at the end of the day, because of your faith in God, you will be able to overcome. So the vice president will overcome the challenges and will come out stronger.”

He decried the high level of nepotism and tribalism in the country, calling on Nigerians to demonstrate love that transcends all barriers and ethnic sentiment.

Earlier, wife of the General Overseer, Mrs. Folu Adeboye, told the congregation not to lose their peace irrespective of what is happening in their lives.

She assured the church that once God was not absent in their lives, they would emerge victorious.

In his sermon, Adeboye told the worshippers that any man who had attempted or is attempting to throw them in the Lions den would be destroyed.

CelebritiesKenneth Okonkwo, Tonto Dikeh Honoured At Nollywood New Yam Festival by akelicious(op): 8:21am On Nov 03, 2019
Veteran Nollywood actors Kenneth Okonkwo and Tonto Dikeh have been honoured with cultural titles at the 2019 Nollywood New Yam Festival, an annual thespians’ fiesta, which showcases Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the duo received the awards at the annual cultural event held at the Heritage Africa Centre on Saturday in Abuja.

Kenneth Okonkwo, a foremost Nollywood actor, was honored with the title ‘Agujiugo of Nollywood’, while Tonto Dikeh was named the ‘International Ambassador of Culture for Nollywood’.

Mr Agility Onwurah, Chief Executive Officer of Agile 247.Com, organiser of the event , commended the awardees, adding that the honour was to “tell them that their contribution to Nollywood is recognised”.

“Nollywood is our own, and anyone who has contributed to its growth and development, in what ever capacity should be celebrated.

“We hope that this honour will spur them to doing more for our dear industry,” he said .

NAN reports that it was a night Nollywood watchers will not forget in a hurry as they enjoyed the company of favourite Nollywood celebrities as artistes and cultural troupes took their turn to entertain guests.

Filmmakers and actors drawn from across Nigeria as well as traditional chiefs were present at the festival, which fans now look forward to every year.

Onwurah told NAN on the sidelines that the initiative was to present a platform where artistes as models and opinion leaders can promote Nigerian culture.

He noted that since the movie industry was a veritable instrument in communicating ideas and lifestyle, including cultural heritage, every artiste ought to be a cultural ambassador.

“Culture defines a people and anyone who forgets its culture, forgets its root and identity.

“The festival is simply a platform where celebrities identify with culture and promote it to their fans and followers that no matter the influence of westernisation, we must uphold what defines us.

“Artistes are supposed to be mirrors of society, and that is why we are proudly showcasing our culture to fans, especially young Nigerians who are the future generation,” he said.

He, however, explained that contrary to insinuations in some quarters, New Yam Festival was not a fetish practice, as it was just a medium of “celebrating what we have”.

“As you can see, no fetish practice was observed here, as we simply pray on the yam as meal and we share among to everyone.”

He explained that the festival had evolved over the years into a rallying point for Nollywood stakeholders, fans and culture enthusiasts.

He noted that the festival was already a household name in the FCT, and therefore urged relevant stakeholders to support the organisers for its continuity.

“Each edition of the festival has always come better, and this is a testimony that people are proud of our culture and want to identify with it,” he said.

NAN reports that high point of the event was the unveiling of the roasted yam, spiced with traditional delicacies and the presentation of awards to some industry players and watchers.

PoliticsAccept Verdict In Good Fate – Okorocha To Atiku by akelicious(op): 6:32pm On Oct 30, 2019
Immediate past governor of Imo State and Senator representing Imo West, Senator Rochas Okorocha, has enjoined the Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar to accept the Supreme Court judgment in good fate and “join hands with his brother to move the country forward”.

Okorocha in a statement issued by his Special Adviser in Media, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, shortly after the judgment, said that the Presidential Petition Tribunal and the Supreme Court only authenticated President Muhammadu Buhari’s victory, adding that available statistics proved that he won the presidential election in the first place.

He, however, saluted Atiku for challenging the outcome of the election to a logical conclusion, adding that his action will help to strengthen the nation’s democracy.

According to the statement, “President Buhari won his election looking at the statistics of that poll but the Presidential Tribunal and the Supreme Court only authenticated the victory.

“But what Atiku did was also good for our democracy, it helps to strengthen our democracy but I urge that he now joins hands with his brother, the President to move the nation forward”.

Also lauding the Supreme Court ruling, member representing Ohaji-Egbema-Oguta-Oru West Federal Constituency, Hon Kingsley Uju, said that the Supreme Court has performed its constitutional responsibility by affirming the winner of the election based on evidences available to it.

Congratulating the President, he tasked Atiku to join hands with the winner of the election in the interest of the nation.

The Lawmaker, however, decried the huge resources and time wasted in post-election struggles, adding that litigations constitute huge distractions to people elected into public offices.

He said, “as parliamentarians, we are going to be looking into the Electoral Act to make the institutions of INEC to function well because once elections are free and fair, it will go a long way to reduce post election litigations”.

PoliticsAlex Otti, So This Has Been Your Game Plan? by akelicious(op): 8:06am On Oct 29, 2019
...Submits CV to villa for appointment as Patience Goodluck Camp Celebrates.

It is becoming clearer by the day that the defeated 2019 All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) Governorship candidate in Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, is blackmailing Abia State as a tool to curry favour with the federal government. An impeccable source at the presidency confirms that he has submitted his curriculum vitae (CV) to the presidency in preparation for appointment.

The source said his appointment formed part of the reasons the former president, Goodluck Jonathan visited the president as the former first family is personal lobbying for Otti to be engaged.

Recall that Otti's nomination by former First Lady Patience Jonathan for the position of CBN Governor was rejected while Jonathan was in office.

This development was further confirmed by an All Progressive Congress (APC) chieftain in Abia State who said the party in the state is aware of the submission of resume by Otti but called on President Buhari to reject any move to offer job to him when members of the party are yet to be rewarded for their efforts during the last election that led to the president getting more than 25% of the votes cast during the presidential election.

In his words “while we were fighting for the president to get 25% in Abia and the south east, some privileged people around the president were busy awarding multi-billion naira NDDC contracts to Alex Otti even while the party in the state was looking for money to win the election. Rewarding Otti with appointment at this time is a recipe for complete disintegration of the party in the state and I want to strongly urge the president to reject the proposal”.

This development we learnt has brought joy to the camp of the former President as a former presidential aide who worked with former First Lady Patience Jonathan informed our reporter that the expected appointment of Otti is good for their camp as it will mark the beginning of cooperation between them and the Presidency.

He dismissed the allegation that Otti is joining APC because of fear of prosecution over unaccounted NDDC funds that were diverted to campaign funds.

PoliticsI Am Nigerian, I Enjoy Jollof Rice – Chelsea Defender, Tomori by akelicious(op): 5:10pm On Oct 26, 2019
Chelsea defender, Fikayo Tomori, has admitted difficulty in choosing the country to represent at the international level.

Tomori was handed his debut England call-up, for their Euro 2020 qualifiers against Czech Republic and Bulgaria earlier this month.

Before his selection into the Three Lions’ fold, the 21-year-old was eligible to play for his county of birth, Canada or Nigeria through his parents.

Although he is yet to make his debut appearance for England, Tomori said he never received an invitation from the Super Eagles before joining Gareth Southgate’s team.

“I just wanted to go as far as I can and that also involves playing for the national team.

“It was a difficult choice for me. It was something I had to think about for a year or two and I was previously at the U21 Euros, so I wasn’t thinking too far ahead, but then there was a lot of talk and questions and I had to make a decision.

“England called me up in September, and I didn’t get a call up from anyone when they called me up, it was hard to say no to them,” Tomori told OmaSportsTV

Despite his international commitment to the Three Lions, the former Derby County and Hull City defender affirmed that he is still Nigerian and also confessed his love for the country’s delicacies.

“But I enjoy Nigerian music, I’m Nigerian, it’s my culture and I’m very proud of it. I enjoy the food too – pounded yam and jollof especially,” he added.

PoliticsThere Won’t Be Riding On Buhari’s Integrity, Love Again 2023, APC Chieftain Warn by akelicious(op): 4:21pm On Oct 23, 2019
A national secretary’s aspirant from Bauchi state and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Samaila Dahuwa, has urged the party to step up it preparations ahead of 2023 general elections, fairing that President Muhammadu Buhari will not be there again for anybody to ride on his integrity.

Dr. Dahuwa, who is seeking to replace the former national secretary and now governor of Yobe state, told newsmen in an interview at the national secretariat of the party Wednesday, that for fairness sake, Bauchi state should be given the position of the party’s national secretary so as to place the party in a better position to win elections in near future.

Dahuwa said: “Why should we say the position should be given to Bauchi state? The actual condition that led to Yobe state producing National Secretary of the party has been overtaken by the event. We all know that Bauchi is a heavy weight in the region we need in term of number of vote given to APC and President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Unfortunately, in the last election, Bauchi state lost governorship election to the PDP. This event though came to us as a surprise because we won 15 out of 20 local governments and we still lost the election. But now the election is actually being contested in court.

“However, as it stands today Bauchi state has no elected APC government. Because of that we are akso without any officer in the leadership of National Assembly both at the Senate and House of Representatives, without any member of NWC of our great party, our party is going to be put at very serious disadvantage in the state and we believe that conceeding the position of National Secretary to Bauchi state will be a good thing for the party,” he stated.

While expressing fairs regarding the post-Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in the party, the national secretary’s contender said: “In view year now it is going to be challenging and politically vigorous for the party, this is going to be post Buhari’s administration and we have to understand that our opponents are working day in day out tirelessly to see how they can dislodge APC come 2023.

“It is a national assignment that anybody who loves Nigeria will have to put his heads and hands together to make sure thatt the era of PDP does not come back to Nigeria. It is important for us in APC to start thinking from now because we have to be very strategic and we believe that giving Bauchi the position of the National Secretary and to someone like me will invariably put our party back to its tracks.

When asked the reasons for his fear for APC on post Muhammadu Buhari’s government, the Bauchi borno politician said: “President Buhari has brought about serious change and stability in the country. So many things have changed. And we have the fear that any post Muhammadu Buhari’s administration that is not there to consolidate on the gains must be resisted. That is number one.

“Number two, we all know that quiet numbers of politicians got their tickets and elections on the back, love of Nigerians and the integrity of President Buhari. It has been lime tbat in 2015 and it has repeated itself in some places in 2019 but 2023 there won’t be Muhammadu Buhari in that capacity, so that is reason why I said we have our games because there will be nothing lime riding on the back of President Buhari to win elections.”

SportsUnforgettable Kanu Nwankwo’s 1999 Hat-trick Against Chelsea (watch Video) by akelicious(op): 11:20am On Oct 23, 2019
Josh Fordham of Talksport.com celebrates Nigerian striker Nwankwo Kanu’s hat-trick against Chelsea in a match with Arsenal in 1999. The hat-trick turned the derby in Arsenal’s favour and made Kanu an Arsenal hero. We share Fordham’s report:
Nwankwo Kanu was a popular figure at Arsenal during his five-and-a-half seasons at the club.

His finest moment came exactly 20 years ago when he scored a sensational hat-trick against Chelsea in the final 15 minutes of the match to grab an unlikely 3-2 win.

Kanu single-handedly won the game for Arsenal against Chelsea in 1999.

The Gunners had signed Kanu for around £4.15million in February 1999 and finished the season well with seven goals in 17 games.

It was the match at Stamford Bridge on October 23, 1999 that endeared himself to the fans when he single-handedly won that game.
Chelsea looked to have wrapped up the fiercely contested London derby with 30 minutes to go thanks to headers from Tore Andre Flo and Dan Petrescu.

Goalkeeper Ed De Goey had not conceded a Premier League goal at Stamford Bridge at that time so the idea of an Arsenal comeback seemed unlikely.

Nigerian striker Kanu had other ideas, though.

With 15 minutes left to go, Kanu intercepted a Marc Overmars shot and toe poked it into the bottom corner to make it 2-1.

Overmars was again the provider as he fired a cross into the box that the striker controlled into space and fired in to De Goey’s near post with seven minutes left.

He needed no help for his hat-trick goal, though, as it was a fantastic individual effort.

Kanu won the ball back on the touchline and for some bizarre reason De Goey came racing out to try and tackle the Arsenal man.

He rounded the goalkeeper but was faced with an impossible angle and four Chelsea defenders between himself and the goal.

Undeterred, he smashed the ball into the top corner over the heads of Frank Leboeuf and Marcel Desailly to seal the 3-2 win.

Kanu went on to be named African Footballer of the Year for the second time in 1999 and scored 16 goals in all competitions that season.

The striker failed to reach double figures for the rest of his Arsenal career before moving to West Brom in 2004
