European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Bad Belle Don Start: Cristiano Ronaldo Has No Place In Lionel Messi's World Xi by akinalabi(op): 1:39pm On Jan 08, 2009
"He's diving, preening, mummy's boy who goes missing in big games
and is slowed down by the weight of his own ego. All real football fans
detest this loathsome brat and the sooner he becomes an expensive
prima donna at Real Madrid the better."

SportsRe: Has Nigeria Ever Produced A World Class Player? by akinalabi(m): 1:34pm On Jan 08, 2009
I just asked two friends what they thought what world class was.

One said "Any player that rubs shoulders with top players worldwide
and competes favourably with them. Known, identifiable and respected
worldwide"

The other said "The greatests. . . The likes of Pele, Mardona, Di Stefano
etc"

The first, Okocha and Kanu belongs.

The second, they do not. In fact, the second one, very few will be there.

So it depends on what you define as world class.
SportsRe: Has Nigeria Ever Produced A World Class Player? by akinalabi(m): 12:52pm On Jan 08, 2009
The cause of this argument is that each person has his own definition
of world class.

Didnt see the game but I heard it was a stroll in the pack. Glad we
avoided a replay.

Spurs next. . . but for now, the buisness of the premiership is our
priority.

FIFA is not stupid even though Blatter remians the president.

We all know who's going to win it.

The soccer africa team is full of madmen.
The Kenyan idiot whose only pride is the state of their league never gets anything right in his predictions.
The Ivorien should be at a police station, not a studio.
The only guy I respect is TK,because he actually has some depth about African Football.
If they brought in Mark Gleeson,he'd give them a lot of credibility.
You're really really crazy grin grin grin

I actually like Soccer Africa. I like the way they diss each other
there and Idah is better there than when he's on Monday night
football.

As for Terry Paine, he has the highest number of appearances
for southampton so he's a fanatical supporter. Gary Bailey was
Man Utd's first choice goalies in the early eighties and it was
Peter Shilton that overshadowed him on the International stage.

Neil Andrews is a spurs fan and old man Lewis I think is a
Man utd fan.

Then the extras like Shaun Bartlett and the rest. . . Don't like
seeing them.

That's the point.
Like Sauron said, Redknapp and co can't analyse the globacom premier league.
But Deji and Coanylyse theirs and ours as well, regardless of how full of crap ours is.

The same Supersports analysts are scared to use facts when they argue. They only draw a map of where each team is coming from.
grin grin grin

I love Terry Paine though. The old man is astute.

@ Sauron,

Why are you allowing Dayokanu to get under your skin?

Every living soul knows Ronaldo is the world's best. . .
SportsRe: Hitv Sport Analysts Are Plastics by akinalabi(m): 3:24pm On Dec 22, 2008
You've lost it Jascobee. . .

The two Deji's are good. There's no question about that.

How did Andy Gray and Martin Tyler come into this. Martin
is widely regarded as one of the best football commentators
in the world alongside the likes of Archie McPherson and
John Motson (even though I dont like him)

We never said they were world class but they know their
footie.
SportsRe: Hitv Sport Analysts Are Plastics by akinalabi(m): 12:19am On Dec 19, 2008
I think this is the only topic most of us agree on something.

Kudos to the two Dejis
SportsRe: Hitv Sport Analysts Are Plastics by akinalabi(m): 4:25pm On Dec 18, 2008
I don't think plastic is the right term to use. Many of them are
true followers of the game.

Maybe the poster should say most of them are boring and not
articulate enough.

too sure it surprised anyone.
SportsRe: Factors That Raised The Best Ever Super Eagles In Tunisia & Usa 1994 by akinalabi(m): 10:59am On Dec 17, 2008
There were no world cup qualifiers in 79/80. The players got
into their peak then and by the time the qualifiers came later,
the team was past it.

For instance, remember Chukwu retired after the tourney and
he had to be begged out of retiremnt by Nwobodo to play in a
crucial qualifier which we promptly lost.

We didnt even go past the first round two years later in Libya.

At USA 94, Oliseh and Sia Sia started in the middle against
Bulgaria, Argentina and Greece. Then against Italy, JayJay
paired with Oliseh.

SportsRe: Factors That Raised The Best Ever Super Eagles In Tunisia & Usa 1994 by akinalabi(m): 10:17am On Dec 17, 2008
The 1980 team was better than the 1994 team in my opinion.

Olaolufred:
Siasia was replaced with Amokachi who stole away Jersey completely through that one opportunity.
Since then, Siasia starts most matches from bench.

The Team is a highly competitive Team.[/color]
Sia Sia was regular at the world cup playing in the midddle
with Oliseh.

Where are chidi nwanu, uche okafor and michael emenalo?. Are they still alive?
I think Emenalo is a Chelsea scout or has he been sacked?

I need people to join me to support the 1980 team.  grin

I think it was more complete than the 1994 team. The 1994
team had full back problems. Egu (a natural midfirelder) was
a make make shift right back.

Iroha, the super left back was always injured. I think he played
only one match at the world cup, against Bulgaria. His replacement,
Mike Emenalo was far from convincing.

The centre of the midfield wasn't too convincing as well even
though Oliseh was fine. Sia Sia, a striker, had to play in front
of Oliseh in the playmaking role.

But the 1980 team had it all. . .

No chance.

Kanu did not even make the squad to both Tunisia and America. He made
his debut I think against Sweden before the world cup but he did not make
the squad.

Jay Jay was not super regular. I think he started only the Italy game at the
world cup.
SportsRe: Which Super Eagles Team Is Your All-time Best? by akinalabi(m): 11:54pm On Dec 16, 2008
My best team is the 1980 squad even though I was quite young then.

I love the central defensive pairing of Christian Chukwu and Tunde
Bamidele. Muda Lawal was awesome in the holding midfield role and
we were flying in the wings. Felix Owolabi and Segun Odegbami were
impeccable.

Another reason why i liked that team was that anyone could pop up
and score. If you mark out Owolabi, Segun Odegbami would pop up
or even Muda Lawal like he did to get the 3rd goal in the finals against
Algeria.

To be honest, repitition don dey too much here and it is this
dayokanu causing all the trouble. cheesy

Ronaldo will be crowned the world footballer of the year and
even messi knows it. He should try harder in 2009.
SportsRe: Official: Alonso And Mikel's 'passing' Records by akinalabi(m): 10:01pm On Dec 11, 2008
I'll love to verify those statistics. . .

The version I heard Ian Darke say was that Scholes had
the most complete passes in the premiership last season.

Then we have to understand what completed passes are. . .

A pass from Rio to Vidic is a completed pass. From Gallas
to Toure is a completed pass so a completed pass could
be meaningless atimes.
