@ All

Have you all noticed that the FIRSTALUM gain the full 5% today? Because of the doubts about TRW I have confirmed with 3 other sites and they all say the same thing about FIRSTALUM

Its the first one among the February 6 stocks under investigation to turn the tide around.
goes to show that there's no good news like bad news. i bet if it were in a more developed market, investors would be so scared of putting in more new money into a company being investigated (is an investigation really happening sef?).

sorry, on the tuesday figures i got that wrong, it was on TS na dsold 132m units. it went on TS on monday but on friday when it wa s open for trading it sold only 16m units.
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 2:32pm On Feb 21, 2008
@samstone cool cool

As per ur broker telling u that 132m and 357m units traded for a company officially on TS being cross deals, tell him u have a friend who is a psychiatrist willing to treat him for free. I go even fly come meet am for naija sef cheesy cheesy cheesy. Only pulling ur legs man. but seriously, look at other companies who have been on TS and look at the number of cross deals happening on them, look at the volume sold? which one topped volume charts 2 days in a row?
on tuesday, it had 585m units traded, and it was not on TS today it is on TS and it traded 357m units thru cross deals only, na wao!! shocked shocked

@AKT

Stocks can be placed on suspension whenever there is uncertainty with a company. This is done all over the world e.g. when merger announcements are imminent.

As far as the crossdeals in Transcorp shares, this is what my brokers told me when 132 million shares were traded in a single day and I have no cause to disbelieve them.

Samstone4 cool cool cool
TS in more developed markets are placed after papers are submitted and scrutinized for reasons such as mergers, P.Os. NOT because a company is having a bad press day. when were papers submitted for transcorp and what was the official reason given for placing it on TS?

AS ROUGHCUT HAS SAID, LETS NOT DRESS UP A MUTTON AS A LAMB (abi is it the other way round cheesy cheesy).
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 2:07pm On Feb 21, 2008
samstone4:
@AKT & Jandbaby

The purpose of the technical suspension of Transcorp share was to prevent the panic selling based on incomplete information on Nitel.

The initial impression was that the government had by fiat revoked the sale of Nitel. Even the transcorp Vice-President was caught unawares by this pronouncement over a weekend. But, as announced by Reuters, Transcorp was to retain 10% on Nitel. This was confirmed at a press conference by the Presidency yesterday.

Most of us had heard months ago that Transcorp was likely to keep about 25% and the government 25%. I think I mentioned this here in Nairaland.

My brokers take is that all the trading in Transcorp shares a couple of days were in crossdeals - which may be at any agreed price, as far as I know.

When the psychological damage done by the manner of the weekend pronouncement has settled it will be time to remove the suspension and allow calm, considered trading. Sure AKT will agree with me here psychiatrically speaking - as we used to say when in combat with SAS medics.

Samstone4 cool cool cool cool
my question to u dear friend is, would any other company have been placed on TS because NSE was afraid that bad news about its dealings would cause a drop in its share price?

Cross-deals with the highest volume sold on the stock exchange for 2 days in a row? C'mon, u're having me on arent u?
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 1:23pm On Feb 21, 2008
transcorp again topped the volume list and this time with a whopping 357m units. i kid u not!

so why put it on TS if transactions on it are the same or even more than whae it was open to trade? huh huh
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 11:55am On Feb 21, 2008
if the risk with oando is to be taken, it has to be worth it. u have to be sure they are set to remain profitable, that their management is on the ball, that they are able to compete, that their books are looking good etc.

some would consider this to be a case of too many unknowns to put in such substantial amounts grin grin
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 11:52am On Feb 21, 2008
@risky

if i may.
i think waht wanajo is saying is that considering the amount of money one would need to put into oando to get a meaningful volume is susbstantial, it would be a risk for many fellas and rightly so. Oando like most in their sector has a "high" price in real naira terms (not fundamentally speaking). if one is willing to put in N1.5m for just 10,000 units of oando then i would say in real money terms for an average salary earning nigerian investor, that is a real risk don't u think. For some that would be equal to a whole year's salary, for others, school fees for a year for their kids.
get my drift?

I cant remember who it was who asked for my thoughts on NBC(forgive me). it might have been that arsenal supporter debenzd u know. cheesy cheesy

anyway, the short answer is that i don't know. I think they might be heading south but i dont follow the company. the patterns dont look good and if i'm correct, there will be a continous drop in its price in the short term at least.

this one is with a BIG caveat emptor o! lets see how it closes today for confirmation

on Unity bank, i woudnt buy now, its coming down. it did a hanging man yesterday after a long rise over the last 10 days.
it is trading too close to its resistance level for now. I would wait till it drops further

@all a friend sold her zenith shares and made some cool cash. her stock roker is asking for 20% of it any advice? anyone
was there any such arrangement between her and the broker?

if yes then she should do the right thing and pay up.

if no, then the broker na tief! na im make the money wey she use take invest? if this is the case then she needs to take it up with his boss or even higher the SEC if she has the time and energy. i guess that would depend on how much is involved
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 10:28am On Feb 21, 2008
from proshare, for those of u who have access to a TV this morning

When the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued its press release announcing its planned investigation of six (6) firms over allegations of suspected price fixing, the market sat up to see how the SEC was going to assert its relevance as the market regulator.

This was quickly tested by NSE disclaimer of the pronouncement as wishful thinking as it alone had all the data needed to establish such a claim.

The non suspension of the stocks involved was further proof that SEC as a regulator needed to fine tune its ‘birth right cliams’.

If that was not bad enough, the Nigerian Stock Exchange approved the request of one of the February Six – African Petroleum Plc (AP) to raise funds by placing its shares on technical suspension.

How does one make sense of all this development? How can a company accussed of price manipulation, sustain the price increase every trading day after the disclosure/disclaimer and on the third day, freeze the price for a possible public offer that still needs to be approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission who made the allegation in the first place?

We will certainly like the two institutions to clarify this development that seems to divide the investing public.

Join us as we discuss the issue on THE MONEY SHOW today on AIT at 11.00am

@ fof2, on eternaoil
near future being within the next week, of course. if i may say so, the fact that its been dropping and then did an inverted hammer yesterday suggests an attempted rally that failed yesterday but none the less it also suggests a resurgence of interest in the stock and i suspect it will at worst stabilise today or even rise. BUT i have been wrong before cheesy cheesy
