Business / Who Should Be Responsible For The Clearing Of International Shipments? by aktunde(m): 8:10pm On Apr 09, 2010
On the 27th of March, my fiancee sent a phone to me from the US using FEDEX, and she gave the the tracking number immediately. With the tracking number, I followed the phone until it finally arrived at Lagos on 1st of April. Since the first of April, I noticed the phone has stopped moving. On the status of the shipment, I saw "Delivery Exception". I contacted FEDEX cutomer care in Nigeria, and he representative told me that "Delivery Exception" is often used when goods are not cleared by the NDLEA. She asked me to contact NDLEA, and clear the shipment myself.

My questions are as follows:

(1) Who should be responsible for clearing any shipment in cases like this? The logisitc company or its clients.
(2) Isn't the custum clearing and NDLEA clearing at the airport part of the services being paid for?
(3) If I go and clear it myself; would I then hand the shipment over to FEDEX to bring it to my door step, because that was the service being paid for? "Door step delivery"
(4)I am not in Lagos state. If I go to lagos and clear it would I get a refund for the initial cost of moving the shipment from lagos to the state where I am? The sender did not pay for the goods to be delivered in Lagos, but in my home in another state entirely
(5) Is this the experience of those using courier services for international shipments? Because I know of someone whose car was shipped to his door step from US by another shipping company. And till the end of the transaction, he had no single contact with the customs.

I know most of this questions should be directed at FEDEX. I got them yesterday, but couldn't get anyone to pick my call again today.

I feel like sharing the worries here.  I feel those who are thinking of sending some electronics to their relatives through courier services would learn from this. Sending it might be much more easier than receiving it down here, it could be frustrating

I do not doubt that the last for people by the right could be the right people. Look at their faces and bears naa. That is how religious terrorists look like. For the rest, I'm not too sure. Some of them could have been caught for being in the wrong place, which does't mean they are involved in the killing. Sometimes, the innocents pay for the atrocities caused by the evil ones. Just pray never to a a sacrificial lamb for anyone's offence.

You want to help others to get jobs, yet you can't even speak good English Language. How do you intend to communicate with employers?. I guess you just dropped out of your scamming university without taking "Use of English or Communication in English" as a course.

If you are not a scammer, why not post your information here for everyone to see?

See your English "We offers a wide range of employment services" and " Send CV To Email Address For Application And More Informations"

Do you need to add "s" to
we offer
and
information
there? I can see you like the word "S" so much because from "S" you can get $

I am not trying to teach English Language here. I am only trying to make some innocent job seekers on NL to see reasons why they shouldn't fall into your scam.
Politics / Re: Reuters - Al Qaeda in North Afica Offers To Help Nigerian Muslims by aktunde(m): 10:00pm On Feb 02, 2010
I don't know if I'm kidding, but this is my sincere wish. Let Nigeria break into three. Let the Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba go their separate ways. Nature has already divided us into three before, through rivers Niger and Benue. I do not know why we are struggling to be one, when it is obvious that the Northerners who are the less educated, the region which host the terrorists and religious extremist, would never let us be.  It takes people of like minds to flow peacefully. The view of the Northerners about the lives of human beings, religion, education, civilization and Government is so different. How does any sane person expect peace to reign when other regions don't think like them?

Because of the greed of some leaders who are not from the oil region, they do not want Nigeria to split. Let us not be afraid of what would happen if Nigeria splits. What will be, will be. I am sure of one thing. It is the northerners that would suffer most because it's obvious they shall be ruled by the religious extremists and terrorists among them. Eventually, they would start killing them selves.

I pray that Nigeria should split. All the Hausas that are not Muslims and already settled in Yoruba land or BIAFRA should be given permanent residence, if they apply. All the Hausa Muslims among them should be repatriated back to the North. Let the Igbos and Yorubas have a Nice relationship just like the one between US and Canada. It might not be easy in the beginning, but I know we shall be okay with time. Only the Northerners who are not Muslims but educated would be given visas to Enter BIAFRA or Yoruba land. It's better for the population of a country to be small, and find peace; than for it to be large and know no peace.

I'm aware I'm day-dreaming, but it's my my wish. I sound like a 10 year old boy, because those cows are really pissing me off.

Politics / Re: Terror List: Close Islamic Schools And Be Delisted - Us Tells Nigeria by aktunde(m): 8:40pm On Jan 09, 2010
I am not here for any kind of religious battle. Yes, I am a Christian but I would speak from a neutral point of view. In my own point of view, all Muslims are not terrorists. But the most popular terrorist or terror groups in the world are Muslims. Are the Muslims blind to these? Why can't they accept the fact that terrorism is now identified as a part of their religion and do something about it? Nigerian Muslims would always deny it. But those in the Middle East, who are the originators of Islam, would not deny the fact that mass killing is not alien to them. So, what are we talking about?

Let's take Christianity for example. There are lots of fake prophets or men of God around claiming to be Christians. Christians like him are often his enemies. Christians like him would be the ones to run him and his church down. Do you know how many men of God, who that have come out publicly to run down Prophet T.B.J, Rev. King and others because they are assumed to be murderers and fake? Do you know the numbers of some acclaimed men of God that have been expelled from the Christian association of Nigeria? Even some Gospel artists who are singing songs to promote immorality are banned from their relevant associations. That is Christianity for you.

I do not want to bother my head about saying if Islamic schools should be closed or not. To me, it’s a mere dream which would never come to pass. Most of the northern states and most northern leaders in Nigeria are Muslims. I do not see these people closing Islamic or Arabic schools. My advice for any Muslim who believes he is not a terrorist is this. First, accept the fact that you are not a terrorist, but also don't ignore the fact that the world terrorists are Muslims like you.

I expect you to be able to identify the terrorists among you. If you are truly against their acts, come together, form a group and fight against the bad ones among you. Fight against the terrorist among you, just as the good Christians would always fight against the fake pastors. If you are not willing to do this, then continue living your life, being stereotyped as terrorists. If you feel bad that you are seen as a terrorist because of your religion, I want you to know that millions of Nigerians who don’t even practise your religion is also seen the same as far as America is concerned.

I just wish the bastard Farouk wasn’t born at all. Well, I hope he too would feel the same way, as he spends his youthful age in Jail. Oloriburuku omo, Olosi, Apa, please if you have any other thing, add it to his new names for me.

How can the economy grow when Nigeria is in comatose. The slowpoke we call a president is fighting for his life an won't hand over 'cause he wants to die office. The thick-lipped Speaker of the house is busy cruising all over the world and chasing after young girls and the Fat-headed Senate president is busy lining his bank account with public funds. The youth that can really save the country are busy waiting to see how many goals Messi will score when Chelsea plays Manchester united or when Inter milan plays Ac milan. IS THE NIGERIAN ECONOMY GROWING? NOPE, IT'S DEAD!!!

Lol!
Career / Re: What Is The Hnd Equivalent In Usa by aktunde(m): 11:03pm On Dec 24, 2009
@ Poster

I don't believe that HND is equivalent to an Associate degree. It takes 2 years in to get an Associate degree in US, 2 years to get an OND in Nigeria, and at least 4 years to get an HND. I feel that OND could be an equivalent of an Associate degree. To get a Bsc degree in USA, you must have completed nothing less than 120 credits. Credits is also known as units in Nigeria. As at the time you complete HND in from a good polytechnic Nigeria, you must have taken more than 120 units, if you add the units of all the courses you took from OND till you get the HND. . This is not to say that HND is the same as Bsc in U.S.A. But I'm only giving you this breakdown to show my disagreement with the fact HND is equivalent to an Associate degree in US.

Is it possible for an Associate degree holder to take a postgraduate diploma or postgraduate Certificate and proceed to a Masters degree in any part of the world? Isn't this possible with HND? These are the points of my argument. I'm not saying I'm perfectly right. Let WES be the judge.

To get the best answer, try and find someone who has done some evaluations with WES before with his HND. If "micktosin" has done one before, well he might be right. But ask him to give you a copy of his evaluation report as a proof of what he is saying. In the absence of that, I advice you contact WES yourself for the evaluation.

If you need a US Bsc degree, you might only need to transfer your HND credits. Resulting from our poor standard of education here, it's not likely that all your credits would be transferable. Some might be rubbish, irrelevant or outdated to an average school in U.S. If care is not taken, you might finish the degree at the same time as some one who has an Associate degree in U.S would finish. I want to imagine that that is what "micktosin" is saying here. Some one with an Associate degree in US might even finish before you.

If I were you, rather than looking for a Bsc degree with a HND, I would rather do some foundations to Masters, and go for a Masters degree in US after that.

Go to http://www.wes.org

Hope this is helpful.

Car Talk / Re: Brand New Kia Cerato Vs Used Japanese by aktunde(m): 3:04am On Nov 20, 2009
@ Katimba

Can someone also compare 03,05 murano to kia cerato, in terms of availabilty of spares, and maintainance and durability and the comfort.

AVAILABILITY OF PARTS, KIA is better. Except if you have accident, that leads to the damage of body accessories, you might not need to buy any mechanical part for the next three years. Since it has three years warranty, you might not need to pay for the part. Once the warranty expires, I'm sure you can easily get the part from the dealers.

MAINTENANCE: Well, I can't really say here because the one I drive is just three months old. The only money spent is on petrol which is normal for every car. less than 40 litres from Osun to lagos (to and fro). I have not gauged the tire since it was bought, I don't remember topping the water. Not that I am careless, but I see no need for it. It might be because its still 3 moths old. but my uncle who had been using it since four years ago said the major money he can remember to have spent on it is on fuel. The first servicing if Free, the second around N3700and the third the same. This is how far I have gone with servicing. I do not know of Murano because I have never used or driven it before.

DURABILITY: I expect Murano to be more durable. Though, my uncle has been traveling from lagos to Abuja every week with his cerato for about 4 years now. I expect Murano to do better.

COMFORT: Murano of course! You can't even compare the comfort you would get in Honda baby boy 2000 with Kia Cerato 2009. It's just that every thing in Kia 2009 is new. If the interior and total comfort provided in KIA cerato can be improved to as much as that of honda baby boy and not to talk of EOD and above, I bet Kia cerato would be sold more than double if not ripple the price its been sold now.

I think to sell KIA cheaper, they concentrate on beautiful exterior, good engine but low quality interior. The interior is beautiful but the materials used are cheap. You know there are lots of China phones that are more beautiful than the one actually imitated. But despite the beauty, it could be of low quality. that is what I am saying about the interior here. But generally, a car with beautiful body, nice engine and average interior would still move. But a car with flashy body, flashy interior but bad engine would Bleep you up .

The choice is yours!
Car Talk / Re: Brand New Kia Cerato Vs Used Japanese by aktunde(m): 8:00pm On Nov 19, 2009
I have no reason to tell lies here. I have used Tokunbo cars before and I currently drive a brand new Kia Cerato. Except if you just want to "feel among" those using big cars, a brand new KIA Cerato is far better than any Tokunbo Honda or Toyota of 2004 and below. Depending on the Millage, the physical condition of the car and the car history, a Tokunbo Honda or Toyota of 2005 and above might even be more expensive than a brand new Kia cerato. If I am to pay equal price for a brand new Kia Cerato and Honda/Toyota of 2004 and below, I would always go for the New Kia Cerato.

I used to condemn KIA products too. But I later knew I was wrong. I have been driving one KIA Cerato for the past three months. Honestly, there is a far cry between a new and used vehicle. If you think that three months is too short to determine the reliability or durability of the car, well its your own opinion. But honestly, I have an Uncle who had been driving his own from LAGOS to ABUJA for about for the 4th year now. If his 2004 model can  serve him this long, I expect more from the 2009 because it has been improved a lot. He makes this trip every week. If you see the milage, you would open your mouth. Yet the car is still running smooth.

If you can find out, most of those condemning KIA has never used it before. Not all, but some are talking from what they always hear from people. Often times, most mechanics would discourage you because they are not familiar with it. You should also not expect any Tokunbo dealer to tell you that Kia is good. Telling you that, means he is personally running his own business down. You can only get an unbiased advice from those who have used brand new Kia and the popular tokunbo cars on the street. I have used Tokunbo and a new car, so I know what it means. The exterior is great, but you you can never compare the interior with Honda baby boy 2000 model or Camry 2000. The interior is of low quality and has less "effizy"compared to those ones. Better still, if you want to be free from Auto-mechanics, rewires, AC technicians for the next 3-5 years, please go for the brand new Kia Cerato.

Goodluck.

Romance / Re: Can Long Distance Relationships Really Work Out? by aktunde(m): 5:27pm On Nov 17, 2009
It all depends on what you want from the relationship. If it's for sexual satisfaction, I expect you to know it can't work. If it's for migration purpose, you might try to manage it to the point of marriage, but you shouldn't expect that type of marriage to work. Because the benefactor which in most cases resides back home e.g Nigeria, has never been sincere in the relationship, even if the one abroad is sincere about it. Often time, it is the selfish partner that gets frustrated first, if his motive for being in the relationship is not achieved on time. Meanwhile, the sincere one still tries to sustain it, even if its not easy. That is why only very few work.

However, if you go into the relation because you really love each other, you believe you are the best match for each other and because of your willingness to grow old together, IT CAN WORK! It depends on if you want it to work. To make it work, love alone is not enough. In the human way, it requires 50% trust, 25% determination and love is just 25%. Often times, you might choose to trust, even if it seems foolish to do so. That is my own theory, and not a generally acceptable one. I only give that, to let you know that love alone cannot make it work. Yet, it can work if you want it to work. Then in the divine way, it requires 100% prayers. The combination of my theory with the divine can also make it work.

What makes relationship to work are the people involved and not the distance. Majority of those giving comments here have been in short distance relationship before. Are they trying to tell me that the guy or lady the dated next door, next street, next state, same office, same school or same church led them into marriage? Are they telling me that all the short distance they had make them happy? If you, why did they break up? Being close doesn't guaranty marriage or happiness, just like the long distance doesn't make it any better. Yet, the long distance can still work.

I do not know if its a coincidence or our family desires. But I can tell you that most of my relatives abroad didn't get married right there. None of them also went their with their families. Most went there as singles, came back home and got married. Most of them court for nothing less than two years. My younger sister left her bf while they are both in 200 level in UNAD. She still came back and married that guy after the guy graduated and served (3 years later). They are both doing fine in U.K

My gf is in the USA. I laughed when some people said they have been in long distance relationship for 15 months. This is our 30th month. Really dont like dating for too long. But we started when none of us is set for marriage. Since its now heading towards that direction, we choose to move on. That is why its about 30 months now. I am still in Nigeria because I am determined to complete my Post graduate degrees before relocating. We move this far, because we are determined to make it work. Though we argue sometimes and its not funny those times. In fact, there was a time she and I were having an argument and I had to ask questions in Nairaland. But the more we are able to settle our differences without third party intervention, the closer we become.

My candid advice is this. If you and someone are in love, the threat you have is TIME and not the DISTANCE. Try to determine how soon you can be together. If you think it would take too long, you may not go into the relationship because you might be frustrated along the way. Generally, if you are the busy type, the time may pass unnoticed. You just have to consider the time. Therefor, to me the threat is the time and not the distance. Till the time you can be together, be set to incure heavy bills on phone calls, air tickets, and other things to keep you connected.

@ Poster, that is my humble opinion. Long distance, short distance, there is no guarantee that any would lead to marriage. There is no guarantee that you would enjoy any of the two. But if you are sincere with each other, you love and trust each other and determined to make it work, any of the two can work! Also if its the will of God, distance is nothing because as big as the world is, we the children of God are all in the palm of his hands. We can always connect together in his hands.

Good luck.

@Mypeace

Don't be surprised that most account officers might not know it. There was a time I had to travel all the way from Osun to Lagos just to get similar information  from my bank's headquarters. Most of those branches don't know anything beyond getting your money and paying you back when you need it. Can you imagine a high profiled bank official arguing with me that I could withdraw dollars from my Master card using their Inter switch ATM which is only programmed to pay in Naira?

I laughed at his stupidity as the ATM of his bank withed my card rather than paying me dollars. The card was withheld because of continuous trials by him. Instead of admitting that he didn't know the answer to my question, he was arguing forcing me to accept his own opinion. No wonder his bank is among one of the 5 banks that are in trouble now.

So, if anyone has answers to that of the poster, please tell him. I know that of Intercontinental Bank and GTB.

I got attracted to a particular phone, made in China. It's just too cheap, talking about the features on it. But on the package, they wrote,
Note: This GSM phone operates on the 900 and 1800 MHz bands. Before you buy this item, please make sure that your country uses one of these two GSM bands.

I want to be certain that the phone would work here in Nigeria. Please can any one tell me about the bands on which Nigerian GSM service providers like Glo, MTN and Zain are operating? Is any of these operators in 900 or 1800 MHz band? If yes, which of them.

Please I need your response

Can somebody get me out of this? Which kind country be this? All these our leaders they mad? I have never supported the militants for any reason before. But if this could be another reason why they should start kidnapping the children of these foolish leaders, militants make una carry go. And before you release their children, get your own share of the money they have stolen, and please force them to give scholarship to just 100 people in their communities. By the times they calculate the cost of paying N180,000 for 100 students, I'm sure they would feel it, even if its just a little.

Im sorry, if it seems I am not making sense here. But for sure, these people don't care about the poor in Nigeria. If they have their way, they could eradicate the poor by death. Wetin now?

This should not be a problem now. If the card hasn't expired yet, just take it to any ATM which bears the "Master Card" logo. Then withdraw your money. Mind you, you cannot withdraw from any Interswitch ATM. It must bear the Master card logo before you can try using the ATM. I was once in your shoes, and this is how I did it. You can go to Zenith bank headquarters in V.I. you can withdraw your funds using their ATM there.
Travel / Re: Switzerland Offers Illegal Nigerian Migrants $6,500 Each To Relocate by aktunde(m): 11:50am On Apr 27, 2009
I think this should be a kind of eye opener for those people struggling to go to Europe. If an illegal resident of Switzerland would accept $6500 to come back to Nigeria, this is enough to tell you he/she is not earning enough there. So, what is the point being there in the first place?.

I also think that this is a trap for the illegal immigrants there. If I were in Switzerland, I would be the last to fall into such a trap. Let's be realistic. For someone resettling from Switzerland, $6500 may not be enough. Would anyone like to return from Switzerland and start squatting with a friend or family? I'm sure you might not want to consider that option, especially when you have never sent a single CHF ( Swiss Franc) to them while you were there. The value of a $ to Naira is about N175. lets say its even N200. Then you have like 1.3M. What if you appear, but don't get the money easy as you think? What if you present you business plans, and they said your plans are not viable to receive such funds? In the case where bye your business plans doesn't qualify for the fund; do you think you would still be allowed to say because you were not given the fund? I guess NO! This would even be worse. You wouldn't get the fund, and you would still be forced back home.

If you eventually get the $6500 @ N200 max. (N1.3m) What kind of business would you do with that in Nigeria? A country where multimillion dollar companies are relocating to Ghana and other countries because of poor power supply and other business threats? What is your N1.3m compared to the capital of these companies? Yeah, many people who haven't seen hard currencies before (even hard Naira) might be very comfortable to start a business with N10,000 - N50,000. Unfortunately, you have passed that stage. I'm sure no one would want to come from Europe, and fall back to that level again. Even if you don't mind, the expectations of your friends and families about those returning from Europe are always very high. As a result of this, you might not want to consider just any kind of petty business.

If God helps you, the dollar is exchanged for N200 which gives you N1.3m. What kind of business would you do with that in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt (where most repatriates hang around before finally going back to their village)? For an average Nigerian hustler who has never traveled out before,  he might be able to turn over that money, and never remain poor again. The reason is that he is already used to the system here, he is used to poverty, therefore he would not be ashamed to continue living in his one bedroom "face me I face you" apartment while growing his business. I believe an average Nigerian hustler who has never traveled out before might do better than you with that money because; "given the 1.3M, he is continuing in his struggle". Meanwhile, you are starting all over again. Do you know how much it costs to get an average standard 3 bedrooms apartment in the states mentioned? Or you would like to start from a room in a "face me I face you" apartment? If you would like to start wit a moderate apartment, you might be required to pay for 2 years mostly. By doing this, about (from N400K and above has gone from your N1.3M) There are even houses that cost more than N1.3M per annum  grin grin grin grin grin grin Your money don finish!! grin grin grin grin

Even if you choose to ignore the mockery and start from a single bedroom in your village or Lagos you still have a lot to do. Have you heard that only less than 5% all small businesses survive more than 5 years from from it's first day of operation in Nigeria? Do you have the technical knowledge and determination to remain in a business even if it is not bringing as much as you expect?

Please, consider this before you go and apply for your $6500. Gbam! This is my own opinion. I might not be absolutely right. You are in the best position to decide. I only want you to weigh the possibility of getting the $6500, as well as the pros and cons of accepting it, before you come back home. I am sure of only one thing. Once you appear before the Swiss immigration authority, it's not certain that you would qualify for the money. But it is tooooo certain that you would be forced back home, against your wish. Sorry oh

I have been hearing from people who have physically met Ramsey Nouah, saying that he is proud and snobbish. I chose not to have any opinion about him, until I met him recently. He came to shoot a film in my area, and I happened to see him at least every day for 3 weeks. His Hotel room was very close to mine. With the exception of his fellow actors, actresses, myself and my siblings; almost every one that met him while he was in our area, said he is proud and snobbish. He related fine with us, so I do not know why people are saying this. Some said he first accesses you before he interacts with you. I guess he has preference for his fans. Some said he faked his smiles, when he had to waive his hands to them. Others even said he didn't respond, while they said "Hi" to him. Majority said he is proud and snobbish compared to other actors who have been visiting the area.

Have you met Ramsey Nouah before? Could all these possibly be true about him?

@arithcom

Thanks for your response. I intend going there as a staff. While working, I may also like to take some certifications training too. Therefore both status (staff and student) apply to me. So, can you give me some information about the working condition there? the remuneration and others.

Does any one have more information about Karrox Nigeria? Has anyone in the house worked or trained at this ICT company before? What is the experience while working there? I mean the staff welfare and the remuneration? What is the experience, while training for certifications there?
