Can someone explain something to me?

If she actually bought this property with her own legit money, will it be a crime? Or are we saying she cannot possibly have access to such amount of money legitimately?
manny4life:
Please tell me o, this woman is not in the same rank and file as many of those politicians who come from grassroots to senator. Like I explained  in a previous post, this woman held a top executive position @ WBG, when she obviously worked there, ain't no telling how much executives earn along with golden benefits, commission, partnerships, etc. She was an active consultant to Africa, Europe and Mid-East Markets, she was engaged in profit and non profit transactions as well as organizations, she's well versed that she had written several memos, articles, books that had earned her money and recognition, the list of her activities is countless. In fact, as of 2011, Forbes ranked her 87 out of Top 100 Most Powerful Women in the World. I don't know why people just decide to ignore simple fact that this woman had LEGIT money before coming into government.
So she has so much money to buy 1.2 billion naira house ?

pleaseeeee you people are so annoying angry

How much is her salary and how much did she save during her job in world bank ?

Accountability? Yet you want the subsidy back? You are known for talking through your anus anyway. Go tell those thieves you represent that they have failed.
I speak of accountability because every Nigeria knows that subsidy has to go

Stop acting stu.pid and stop thinking like a fish because of tribalism.

It seems after all the talk, shouting, teaching, lecture, protest, educating, directing, etc people are doing, some people still don't know why people are angry

1. Yes the system/ government is corrupt. In fact the country is teeming in corruption

2. Yes subsidy has to go and everyone supports the FG for that

3. Before the removal of subsidy, build our refinery so we would not have this same issue in the future. If we have our refineries working, we would not be paying subsidy to anyone and we can control the prices of our crude oil as a Nation.

4. Before removal of subsidy , CUT THE COST OF GOVERANCE not just by 25% because the bulk of the money made in government is not through salaries but be over PRICED projects. An average senator in Nigeria collects more than Obama the american president.

5. Now remove subsidy.

Other things people are protesting for because it was a build up of anger since 1970 and this was the opportunity for a revolution are

1. protest against corruption and the arrest of these people

2. protest against boko haram and killing of Christians/igbos

3. protest against the NEGLIGENT of the Niger-delta

4. Building of the Niger Bridge. Must the bridge collapse before we maintain and build the next ? Since we can save lives, why not do it now.

Now what is the point of thinking ahead when there is still corruption and non-accountability in the government ?

What is the point of thinking ahead when the next administration would tell us about removal of subsidy again ?

IS THINKING AHEAD NOT BUILDING OF REFINERIES ?

Is thinking ahead not protesting against corruption ?

In Nigeria today, we have No light, No security, No shelter, No good roads, No good water, No refinery even though we are oil producing, Total neglect of infrastructure, Total neglect of the Niger-delta, Total neglect of the Niger bridge, Total neglect of people dying in the North, Lack of accountability, Lack of credibility, Lack of industrial growth apart from Oil which the entire country is dependant on, Lack of economic growth apart from the telecommunication sector by OBJ.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would also what to use this medium to address people thinking it is an ethnic thing.

I have heard various people saying the protest is against "GEJ" "minority" and other sentimental words to describe the protest.

I would like to educate the people about the politics behind what is happening according to my understanding and I would really appreciate if I can also learn more from other posters home and abroad.

In 2010, Sanusi made speech to the House of reps (HOR) that they were thieves and they are the ones sucking Nigeria dry due to the huge sum of money paid to them monthly. The HOR shut him down and called him all sort of names.

In 2011, Sanusi during the channels debate said 1.6 trillion naira is paid to this people out of 1.8 trillion naira thus 200 billion Naira is left for development of the country.

This people are the senator, governors, HOR, HOA, chairmen and the business men that were labelled as oil benefit thieves.

Now people Imagine 200 billion left for 150 million people in 36 states out of total of 1.8 trillion Naira. Yes I am sure people would agree with me that subsidy has to go !!!!

All am doing here is to make people political aware of the situation right now and lets not forget the Iweala and the IMF factor.

Now people are NOT and I repeat NOT angry at the removal of the subsidy I mean at such rate the paying of subsidy is not sustainable. It has to go at one point or the other, either through GEJ or the next administration. Yes I respect GEJ and Sanusi for thinking ahead of time. That is very commendable but the Issues that cause the subsidy corruption are not yet addressed.

In the future the issue would come up again so what is the point ?.

Imagine people using our oil to feed the entire W. Africa because they want to make an ilicit buck and then when the shiit hits the fan, they bring out their ethnic groups in an unprecedented display of ugly bigotry and think others are blind.

PoliticsJonathan, Labour Leaders To Meet At 5pm Today by aljharem(op): 4:12pm On Jan 12, 2012
President Goodluck Jonathan is to lead a Federal Government delegation to a meeting with labour leaders at the Presidential Villa today.

THE PUNCH learnt that the meeting would hold at 5pm.

They are expected to work out a solution to the general strike, widespread anger and protests over the government’s removal of fuel subsidy on January 1, 2012.

The strike and protests entered their foruth day today.

Labour is demanding that government must revert from N141 to N65.

Senate President, David Mark, who confirmed the meeting in a short interview with Senate correspondents in Abuja, said there was “light at the end of the tunnel.”

Speaking after meeting with Labour leaders at his residence, Mark said the Senate had succeeded in getting both sides to discuss the January 1, 2012 controversial removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government.

“Our efforts are to ensure that Labour and government sit down to discuss the issues and I think we have achieved that. There is going to be a meeting today between the government and the leadership of Labour,” Mark said.

The Senate president had earlier on Thursday led a delegation of senators to the Presidential Villa for a short meeting with Jonathan and senior government officials.

The Senate and House of Representatives had at separate sittings called on Jonathan to revert to N65, in the interest of the nation, and enter into serious negotiations with Labour.

Also, eminent Nigerians such as former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former President Shehu Shagari; clerics, politicians; and leaders of thought had pleaded with Jonathan to revert the price.

I can explain some thing to you of what is going but please I hope you understand and explain to other Igbos.

1. Boko haram are faceless people that even an politician in the north is scared of them.

2. Boko haram is NOT A NIGERIAN CREATION but by powers that want Nigeria to start a war.

3. Boko haram people are not necessarily Muslims or Northern. Trust me on this.

4. By partition in Christian this, Hausa that, we are giving them more power. That is why Chyz said it is not about Igbos but it seems some people are trying to make it an Igbo only affire.

5. Places that there are no protest are the places Boko haram can attack eg adamawa, yobe

6. Boko haram is scared of Nigeria uniting against them thus they use this Christian factor and ethnic factor to disunite thus you see people come on NL vent their anger to Hausa or Kanuris NOT BOKO HARAM themselves. You see the logic ?

7. Why are people not asking why the lives of Southerners and Northerners in the north and south not safe respectively ?

It seems we have become desensitised to the killing that we no long ask questions again. AS IF IT IS NORMAL.

What are our police force doing ? don't they know the southern dominated area for them to go their and protect them ?

In the south don't the police know the north dominated area for them to protect them ?

PoliticsRe: How Subsidy Is Calculated, N1.3 Trillion Explained - Simple Calculation by aljharem(m): 2:46pm On Jan 12, 2012
Deep Sight:
The Opening Post is a staggeringly shallow, false and fraudulent argumentation which misses the pith of the question regarding the 1.3 Trillion issue.

The issue is pretty simple but I am being forced to repeat it all over this board: There are various factors which determine the aggregate cost spent on the fuel subsidy - the critical point is that as long as the subsidy regime has existed - ALL of these factors have existed. The question therefore arises as to what exactly within these factors accounts for a five-fold increase within ONE YEAR ONLY - notwithstanding that the same factors were present in all previous years, but NEVER had such a staggering impact.

In the eight years preceding 2011, the subsidy has ALWAYS been financed well below 300 billion naira. Indeed to be exact, the amount budgeted for the subsidy in 2011 was 240 billion naira only.

Having operated the subsidy regime for several years already, the government of course had a clear idea as to the cost of the subsidy and such information would have been the basis for arriving at a budget of 240 billion for the subsidy within the 2011 budget. The question thus is; what factors could have been so overwhelmingly different in 2011 - which factors did not operate in prior years - as to cause an increase from 240 billion to 1.3 trillion? ? ?

Those factors CANNOT be any of the factors listed by the OP because ALL the factors listed by the OP operated in all prior years and only increase or decrease marginally year on year. For example, the OP says -

In the foregoing the OP mentions average price of crude, foreign exchange differentials, increase in energy demand due to population growth, and increase in smuggled products across Nigerian borders as factors.

Let us look at these factors one at a time and see whether either any one of them or a combination of all of them could be responsible for the ridiculous rise in the cost of the subsidy in 2011. What we find is that these are out rightly st.upid excuses for the OP to proffer as responsible for the 2011 increase.

He mentioned the following factors -

1. Average price of Crude: The average price of Crude Oil in 2010 and 2011 were not different to such a degree as to justify the assertions of the OP. The differentials observable can by no means account for any tangible increase across the year - much less an increase of over 1 trillion naira. In reality Oil has sold at over a 100 USD per barrel a different points within the last five years and at no time has it had anything even remotely close to this effect on the cost of the subsidy. To be more precise, the differential between 2010 and 2011 taken as an annual average does not exceed 12 – 15 per cent. Thus if this were actually true, it would at best increase the subsidy from 240 billion to a little less than 270 billion.

2. Foreign Exchange differentials: between 2010 and 2011, the naira did not fluctuate beyond 12 percent points of its value against the US Dollar. If we are to place this fluctuation against the value of the subsidy, it would have at best meant an increase in the cost by about 30 billion naira - thus a total cost of about 270 billion - still well below the 300 billion naira mark, and without the slightest hope of approaching anything even remotely resembling 1 trillion, not to speak of 1.3 TRILLION. Now even if we add the supposed crude oil price fluctuation, that would take us to about 310 billion naira only!

Thus even a combination of these excuses falls FAR short of any hope of a justification of the 1.3 trillion figure!

3. Increase in energy demand due to population growth: This is actually the most foolish factor advanced by the OP for many reasons.

- First and foremost, population growth did not commence in 2011. It has always been there. If any population growth affects the consumption, it occurs every year and represents a slight marginal increase at best. It can never account for a sudden increase of five fold because the population grows by a fraction only annually. So that is beyond preposterous.

- But in reality, the sheer foolishness of this statement is understood better when one realizes that population growth is represented by new babies. Gentlemen, babies don’t drive cars. And even if they did, why have the new babies who were driving cars every year prior to 2011 suddenly increased a thousand-million fold in 2011. This is ignorance, thoughtlessness and pure hilarity of reasoning at its height. It is so profoundly st.upid that it makes me understand why Nigerians regard Sanusi Lamido as a bright guy. Because Nigerians are very easily fooled by grammar and figures. This OP here is has advanced a hilariously da.ft argument and it is being applauded!

4. Increased in Smuggled Products: - Again, the mention of this factor just shows me the general poverty of intellect that many Nigerians suffer from. Indeed I heard several people congratulation the CBN Governor for his “brilliance” when he mentioned this. I was so aghast that my jaw dropped open. Anywhere else in the world government officials would be loathe to give such a brazen admission of utter incompetence. Not so here.

At all events, for the purposes of the arguments advanced by the OP, the simple reason that this factor fails as a reason is because petrol has a marketing chain which ends in petrol stations and therefore it is possible by backward tracing to determine the volume which reaches Nigerian Petrol stations. Given that each Operator has records of the marketers it purchases from, it is also possible to easily determine what quantities are sold in Nigeria as against quantities that take flight as smuggled petrol. Thus any serious government will only have to pay that which ends in the Nigerian Market. A government that cannot do this, Is not fit to run a nursery school.

It is thus obvious that the reasons proffered by the OP are as ludicrous as they spurious and laughable. There is none of these factors which has not always existed: and there is none, taken either by itself or together with others - that could justify a rise from 240 billion to 1.3 trillion. And that is a cast iron fact.
