Eziachi: I am with you there about giving your daughter to a Nigerian, I gave mine to some matador from Spain instead , But I can tell you that I had to work so hard, charm them, but never kiss their back side though . Being a child soldier in Biafra helped a lot, especially with my father in-law, who introduced me everywhere we go together until his dead as a former Biafra soldier They may be Scottish aristocratic family, I am of the same from the great Igbo tribe too
Eventually I won them over, but it took our mother law far longer to fully accept me, not until we had our son/adopted our daughter. Suddenly she calls me, son! It was a hard battle I can tell you. But in the end I love them to bits and they do genuinely loved me as a son, they never had. In those days only a handful of people in Scotland hard seen a black man and every Christmas was like a death sentence for me as we had to be in Scotland. Your generation had much easy life today in many aspect.
Tottenham Hotspur/Celtic is like religion in my wife's family. You can imagine my pride, the day my fellow Igbo guy signed for Spurs as the first Sub Saharan African to play in the English top league in 1984. His name is John Chiedozie. Do you know him? i think no one can hate you. u are really a cool person or at least ur personality Pa Eziache may ur days be long |

RoadStar: Can you please re-read the emboldened.
Zik made material acheivements as well 1. UNN (The first Nigerian Indegeneous University ) 2. African Contenental Bank etc
But looking at Zik in this light of material chivements is belittling the man.
U can now understand why the guy was known even outside Nigeria , hence the name Zik of Africa. I cant even start to produce accounts of the colonials on Zik. Go to google and educate urself. Ok as I said earlier on this thread I have gone to wikipedia and other ZIK of africa websites and I have read all this things before on the first account, WIKIPEDIA is not a good refers because it can easlly be edited by people like chino11 and co Now lets look at the post 1.) first indigenous university is a glorifed way of saying it is not the first univeristy o but the first made by nigerian . c'mon is it the first university or not Yes or NO and the answer is NO 2.) In 1944, Nnamdi Azikiwe, an eminent Nigerian journalist acquired a small property bank named Tinubu Properties for 500 naira or 250 pounds. Azikiwe was a shareholder of the National Bank of Nigeria before the purchase and had entered the banking industry partly to shore up the financial foundation of his newspaper group and also to help the credit problems of indigenous businessmen. In 1946, the bank became known as Tinubu Bank and a year later it came to bore the name African Continental Bank. By 1949, the bank had a nominal capital of about 250,000 pounds controlled by the founder, Azikiwe, it was affiliated with the Zik group and was one in twelve out of the group's subsidiaries. Apart from marketing itsself to indigenous businessmen it also financed some business activities in the Zik group. During the 1940s, the bank played in role in extending credit activities to the group. During the mid 1950s, with the founder already foremost nationalist, the bank became mixed in politics and business. The bank was helped financially by the Eastern regional government leading to an investigation into improper conducts by the bank's founder, Azikiwe who was then premier of the region. Prior to the investigation, in 1954, a report of an economic travel mission led by Nnamdi Azikiwe and Louis Ojukwu asserted the need for the creation of a finance corporation and for the finance corporation to have discretionary powers to stimulate economic development. The Eastern House of Assembly followed up with the creation of the Eastern Nigeria Finance Corporation charged with investing in an indigenous bank. The finance corporation thereafter chose to invest about 750,000 pounds in ACB with the support of Mbonu Ojike, the regional finance minister. Later, as requested by the Eastern House of Assembly for the corporation to acquire majority shares in an indigenous bank, the finance corporation purchased about 87.7% of the African Continental Bank. By then Azikiwe was interested in making ACB a statutory corporation a move supported by an international bank mission. However, the role and interests of Azikiwe after large investments by statutory corporations was deemed by critics to be still quite substansial. After the investigation, Azikiwe transferred most of his interest in the bank to the regional government and the bank was subsequently nationalized and jointly owned by the Eastern Nigeria Marketing Board and the Eastern Nigeria Development Corporation. By 1962, the Eastern Nigeria Production Development Board had invested about 6 million naira into the bank. It opened a branch in London and declared a profit during the time. The bank's first general manager was Adolphus Blankson, he was succeeded by Fred McEwen. In 1960, it was chaired by Louis Ojukwu. The bank had about 107 branches before becoming distressed in 1991 http://nigerianwiki.com/wiki/African_Continental_Bankas you urself can see he was just a stakeholder and not the owner or the person that started the bank. 3. His newspaper fought for imperislism how many newspapers do that daily. People like Martins die for this and not just newspaper 4. comical first cartoon in newspaper 5. counter ethopia when nigeria is still under the british rule 6. is even dele momodu not doing the same |

chino11: We are not saying that Awalawo and Enahoro where not carrying Zik's bags as he was moving with his West African Pilot, but what we are saying is that Zik was the fore-most nationalist. Great Zik can be likened to Nelson Mandela in SA, because you hardly point at any white elephant project built by Mandela, the same goes to Martin Luther, the same goes to George Washington. All the three above fought for what you cannot see nor geel. They never built anything physical in their life time. The same thing applies to Zik, for spearheading the Nigerian Independence is more than any TV station or whatever. Zik fought for political emancipation. What you cannot see physically is bigger than what you can see and feel. So in this sense Zik fought for your political freedom from the colonial masters. The same freedom your still enjoying today and your still asking what he did for Nigeria. Well I know you can never understand this . great post and i do understand your point Mandela spent 30 or so yrs in prison for SA George Washington fought the british and won ( are really inter country war with weapons and lives were lost) he was elected for Martin fought for the black injustice in America and DIE for what he believed in Nnamdi did not rot in prison infact he was dinning with the british. He did not die for Nigeria instead during the civil war he ran away. He did not fight for independence he BEGGED for it. Please don't confuse things So using Nnamdi in the same calibre as washington and mandela as an analogy is very wrong and insultive to those that actually believe in those men u mentioned because they all suffered but Nnamdi did not instead he was dinning with the british read henry's101 speech of independence by Nnamdi. Also Nnamdi after Nnamdi begged, he would not have been granted if the west and the mid-west did not support him and fought for independence themselves. Read the link i brought out to "roadstar". So what did he achieve that we are enjoying today? |

KenGali: @Alj_Harem, I assume you meant Natives. My answer is yes. Like Ezeuche said, we are Forest People. And Traditionally have cultural abohrrence that protect forests before the white man came. it might interest you to know that uptil now, a particular undying tree is still used as land beacon in rural areas instead of the government registered beacons. If government recognize such, it will encourage tree planting. Applying it in Urban areas is a queston of government implementation only. ok you point taking. thanks your idea is actually very good well thought of |

RoadStar: He was undisputedly at the forefront of the fight for Nigeria independence. But I guess that that is no more felt today. And I know u would say it is not substantial.
Go and tell Black Americans that Martin Luther King did not acheive anything felt by them today. Or that Nelson Madela achieved nothing because the white south Africans built all the infrastructure and systems in South Africa till date. Since they did not build a university, stadium or TV station.
Can you now see how shallow your thinking is ? well put and said now you are flawed in ur argument because Enahoro and Awolowo fought for the independence of nigeria as well or am i lying maybe you can educate urself here if u do not know what to say http://www.thenigerianvoice.com/nvnews/45527/1/nigeria-at-50-independence-speech-of-obafemi-awolo.htmlthat is how awolowo and enahoro fought for independance so what is ur point, or did Zik fight for it alone? That means your really dumb and needed brain transplant. I don't need to answer dumb questions. Does dullards, un-lettered, lazy people get recognition or immortalization ? Does good name come by some jazz means ?? So if Zik is so recognized that means there is something you have not read about him or something your grandpa didn't tell you. So go back to library and archives and find out why Rt.Hon Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe is called the Great Zik and Zik of Africa, mind you he was not given these names on the NL, it was not yesterday that it was given to him. He was called Great Zik decades ago. So go and find out what actually this man Zik did that earned him so much recognition and immortalization. I know you can't be wiser than everybody. insult upon insult yet no answer ok if u have no answer, then stop posting and let others post if they have the answer. you can not just wake up one day and call someone Zik of whatever without laying out his achievements like i have done for the other 2 namly bello and awo. @ Sensible non-angry or frustrated poster please list ZIk achievement for us as Nigerians that we are still enjoying today and it is significant? |
Politics › Re: Landslide Gulps 13 Buildings, Sacks 28 Families In Anambra by aljharem3: 10:35pm On Jul 18, 2011 |
KenGali: Just to humour those that are looking for Solutions. I come from a Village in Anambra that is on top of a hill or rather an expansive highland. And do we have erosion?
It is a fact that these kind of Erosion Menace was almost non existent in the 80s and early 90s. So why are they here now? Secondly, if you look at most pictures of erosion sites in Anambra, they are areas bereft of trees, un-natural grassland;A strange thing for our vegetation type.
The truth is that over the past two decades we have seen development to mean the cutting down of tree and virgin forests for buildings. Many of our huge Iroko's have been either cut down for roads or some Pentecostal church mission claim that they host witches and Wizards? Dumb.
The solution I believe is to build with an Elvish Philosophy, or what i call the Elvenland. Living Among Trees. 1. We need to Recognize and Preserve Virgin Forest (Referred to as Ajo Offia, most communities still have theirs) by maping them and granting them special status. 2. We need to encourage the cultivation of trees: BY:-
a. Review our building Codes; avoid the kind of Crowding of buildings in Lagos; Adopt more spacious building requirements and Require a number of Large, medium and shrub like trees as part of legalized building requirement.
b. Introduce a certification system for the felling of trees outside reserved timber plantations; to ensure that for every tree failed due to obstruction five more are planted by the feller.
d. We need to find and recognize tree that are more than 30 years old, and retain them as Government properties under the custody of the land occupant. Trees up to 75 or 100 years old should fetch the land occupant or custodian such financial benefits as children scholarship, tax rebates, free health insurance etc.
c. Legalize the use of tree for property fencing, and extend legal status to such, recognizing the fencing of Properties by planting trees around the boundaries as property development. d. We can make conscious efforts to line our roadways with local beautifying trees and reforest our waste lands esp. those found in Agulu and Nnanka.
In all this we do not really need federal funding except in the cases of reforestation were we need to import top soil or humus into the area. The rest have to do with peoples attitudes and government policy, guidance and commitment to the policies. No amount of concrete drainage will prevent a land slide in an area where the structural soils clay, and water is freely available to be soaked up by the soil. Only trees can hold the soil together, retain most of the water in the forest floor, and encourage runoff where there is no forest floor. good point but do u think that such policies would be partised by the navties |

Read what Prime Minister Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa said of Great Zik. Maybe you have become more wiser than Balewa.
History reveals Zik as the only individual whose name appeared in a democratic constitution. The Nigeria's 1963 Republican Constitution which was an amendment of the 1960 Independent Constitution has the following words: “Nnamdi Azikiwe shall be deemed to have been elected President and Commander in-Chief of the Armed Forces,” as submitted by then Prime Minister Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa who posited that, “[b]Nigeria can never adequately reward Dr. Azikiwe” for his nationalism.

A situation most likely caused by a great number of electorates going about Thumbless sorry armless ( short sleeve and long sleeve) due to the practice of ** You Know now** my friend the north and indeed any region would need at least 25% of the remaining geo-political zone which i am well aware of. north the question is how would they get it. well easy the south-south especially the ijaws have ALWAYS voted for us and all we just need to do is to protect them from yoruba and igbo domination the north would get it from the west because lagos homes 15% of northerns and extra 20% in state like ekiti, osun and oyo in the east, we just need to give them VP and that is it NC is a mixture of yoruba and hausa/fulani kanuri so at least 50% who wins the north. but I would not vote for someone just because he is a northerner or muslim because that is bigotry i rather look for development then another person |

chino11: Dumb question almajiri. Answer this one: Why has the successive governments in Nigeria continued to honored the Great Zik more than all his contemporaries ?Or do you think its by magic or some kind of confusion ?? That is to show you that Zik's achievements is beyond the understanding of feeble minds like you and all the followers of the fake 'education' giver- Awalaowo, and Awalawo himself. Even the grand-mother of the present president named him Azikiwe. Ask yourself why Zik is the most immortalized human-being in the history of Nigeria, its only then that you will start digging and researching to see exactly what the Great Zik did and stand for in Nigeria. Anuofia ok I don hear and as i stated earlier we are immortalizing Zik (newspaper name) because we don't want to hear " we are been marginalise because of the war" we don't want you to bring to us ojukwu secondly the most important figure in Nigeria today is not Zik he is Murtala Mohammed get it stright the North love him, the west love him unlike the ZIK which is love by bunch of ignorant people who are sheepish in their thinking I have done research I need to do and i am asking a question What did Zik achieve for Nigeria alone which we are still using and as affected people's life positivly? |

jensinmi: Bros. I'm sorry to tell you this but the North, at least the core north, remains the mostly likely to unite behind a consensus candidate.
Do not be deceived.
The NE and NW have enough votes to overrun the SW and SE combined.
Now, why don't you pick up a calculator and do the basic math.
Are you saying a Yoruba candidate will not emerge in the next two elections?? Are you saying a South East Candidate will not emerge in the next two elections?? Are you saying a South-South Candidate will not emerge in the next couple of elections??
Do you believe that most South-Easterners would vote for a Yoruba candidate if one of their own is running?? Now, do you honestly believe that most Yorubas will vote for a South Eastern candidate if a capable Yoruba man like Fashola is running??
Wake up and smell the coffee. Don't be deceived by the nonsense results declared in favor of GEJ.
The core north will rally behind a single candidate in the coming elections. If the results are free and fair, I believe our only hope is to convince General Buhari to run again, or else, it will be Oga Atiku. In that case, we are all screwed. Buhari is the only one that can receive full northern support or split votes with any other northern candidate, thereby allowing another region to take the cake.
In a free and fair election, all any northern candidate needs is 70 to 80% of NE and NW votes. Let us not forget the few NC votes that will add to it. We shall then laugh and see if SE and SS will vote for a Fashola. Or whether SS and SW will vote for an Okorocha, or Chime.
The North are preparing, and now that GEJ has chopped their kpomo, once they get the presidency, we call all say goodbye to it for another 12 years. very well said |
