This idiotic post belongs to the waste bin. How do you expect the Midwest groups to allow the Alafin of Oyo to Lord it over them. Or are you saying that Itsekiris, Edos, Urhobos, Isokos and Etsakos are now Yorubas. What a brainless thread.
How about the north?. The borno and Yobe states were never under the sultanate and will never be. How about Kingless societies in the middle belt such as Idomas, Tvis etc.
That of the east should not be discussed at all. It seems the O.P left his brain at home today before starting this imbecilic thread.

Sorry to correct you, I have gone beyond letters-to-the-editor since more than 5 years now. What I write is 'Opinion' or 'Commentary', full half page, and on two occasions, Daily Sun and Leadership have given my articles 'Guest Columnist' status, the ones Atedo Peterside, Nasir el-Rufai and Eddie Iroh are given. An higher education-focus magazine in Abuja has also just approached me for permanent column writing in their new outfit, which is expected to hit the newsstand soon.

Indeed a recent study reveals that over 25,000 people from across the world move into Lagos for various reasons on a daily basis.

This statement is another high flying kite that's not entirely accurate. Our population is rapidly rising and rural urban drift is well in tango with wide spread poverty but this is common to all urban cities in Nigeria not Lagos alone. The Portharcourt I met in 1996 is a fraction of what it is today. Abuja in the days of the Abacha regime is nothing like it is today. Crowding, traffic jams, etc. To say or mean 25,000 people move into or locate to Lagos on a daily basis will no doubt empty the population of the remaining states and capitals of Nigeria in just 13 years when we know they are all growing simultaneously.

Our population growth is just unsustainable. This is one area we have to tackle with all vigour. China and India are two countries with similar profiles to ours and have both effected population control policies. And they came way before their boom years. However if we believe a large population is an asset like some do then that population has to be productive and hey can only be if they are educated and enlightened which unfortunately is not the case so we readily feel the impact.

I very much doubt your advise as genuine. Read all the posted stuff so far and tell me what they will write or insinuate if MASSOB took your advise?
Eziachi, i u read my post all this while, u would see I have never condemned boko haram

neither have i condemned mend for carrying arms so why should massob be different

my advise is very genuine and true, the government would keep arresting them and killing massob members while opc, mend and boko haram members go free

the sooner they take up arms the better

Eziachi:
I  took time to read all the posts over this paticular thread and came to one conclusion that it likely that 90% of contributors to issues here do not read first what they are responding to. If not how can anyone with brain not to understand what Uwzuruike actually said, not the attractive headline that had no bearing on the content?

The man is saying that by the action of Nigerian govt regarding violent organisations like MEND/BOKO HARAM shows that they listened or respects violence than peace. He mentioned how despite MASSOB's ideology of a free Biafran state out of Nigeria using peaceful means, no govt of Nigeria has deem it fit to invite them for a talk or anything, rather they get arrested and gullaged in various Nigerian prisons and many of them killed in the last 2 yeaars.

But with MEND no one  touches them, even at atime GEJ chose to become their PRO but they've been financially rewarded instead, sent on foreign trips in the guise of rehabilitation programme, invited to Aso Rock to dine and their leaders taken on various ride on the presidential jets many times.
Boko Haram has been around for just two years and within that time, Uwazuruike was saying, they had assasinated many politicians, caused untold hardship for many and now bombed Abuja and there is calls  and plan now by the govt to  invite them for a talk and possibley Nigerian settlement.

MASSOB wants independeent of Biafran and Boko Haram want the same for a segment of  Nigeria based on Islam but where they differ is their tactics. That is what Uwazuruike is sarcastically asking you fools whether it won't pay that MASSOB joins Boko Haram/ MEND's violence tactics so that they can be listened to and stopped being imprisoned or killed by the Nigeria security forces for just carrying Biafran flags?.

He never say he wants to physically join the Boko Haram crusade but only making analysis of their positions with regards to the use of peaceful means and violence means, because so far it seems violence pays in Nigeria.
Many of you has no brain or is it just the usual Igbo thing that makes people lose their sense of reasoning?
Mr Eziachi, so what is stopping Massob from taking arms and bombs undecided

if mend, boko haram can do why can't massob so it

i see no problem in this Eziachi, infact the sooner they start blowing up things the better it is for them and everyone but they should just stay in the SE.

A very good question. I know lots of SWestern people in UK that are planning to settle in Port harcourt when they come to Nigeria.

Other states are not taking advantage of their "situation". For instance, Ogun state should be the next big thing because of the increase in working class people that want cheap accommodation. This can ONLY be achieved of there is a FAST TRAIN FROM LAGOS TO OGUN!

Port harcourt will sooner, rather than later, become the next "Lagos". States such as Abia and Awka Ibom will be at the advantage.

We need  to "ECONOMICALLY INTEGRATE" these major cities. What I mean by this is, build a major FAST train from Ogun and Kwara (we need to be able to transport food fast) to Lagos, to Delta(Warri), Edo, to Port harcourt to Akwa Ibom (calabar to be specific), to Abia back to Delta(Asaba), then, a direct non-stop train to Kano, then, back to Lagos. Let Abuja remain the FCT for the thieves.

If this can be done, it will reduce the pressure on our roads, thus reducing traffic. It will also save time and as they say, "time is money". This will boost our revenue and will be sustainable in the long run.

Port Harcourt is gradually suffering 4rm the same population problem as lagos, as people from all parts of the country are flooding in to seek greener pastures notably people from the east (igbos) who come wit thier business skills to boost the economy of the oil rich city except for some bunch of igbo criminals dat do come along also thereby wrecking havoc in the city (stealing cars & dismantling dem and other crime related activities) also people 4rm the north, west and other niger-delta states most especially people 4rm akwa-ibom. Now my big question is, is it that nuttin is really happening in other states apart 4rm lagos & port-harcourt?
i think crime has a direct relationship with population although the rate of crime in kano(second highest population) is low when compare to places like port harcount, lagos and now abuja.

jigawa state, ogun state and enugu are also trying to improve there states as well, according to SE nairalanders they said enugu is doing well, ( am not sure of that because the better the state, the more the population)
You're right. The government should really do something about Lagos. But I think that, for the private sector to be interested in other cities outside of Lagos, FG has to at least try and alleviate the infrastructure in those states rather than leave it to the mercy of the concerned state's budget.

There're states that need FG help in terms of rapid urban re-development which would encourage rapid industrialisation which in turn, will drastically expand the country's economy though I doubt the FG's seriousness in such initiatives.

States like Anambra, Abia, Imo (all with highly commercialized cities e.g. Onitsha, Aba, Nnewi, Owerri), Delta and Kano should be given utmost attention by the FG to rapidly develop infrastructure in such states.

If I were GEJ, I would think of a special budget for infrastructural development for such states with the aim of easing the pressure on Lagos. I would be surprised if he hasn't thought of this already.

FG should never make the mistake they made in Lagos, in other potential states by allowing the massive population influx without adequate infrastructures to support such influx but well, I guess we've always had porous governments whose officials have mainly been concerned with lining their pockets.
them people

i still think port harcount holds much more potential than nnewi, onitcha etc

also i also believe kano city

if not for MEND madness, Rivers state would have been bigger than this

I don't know why this keeps coming up when people know the truth and refuse to tell the truth.

Lagos is hosting all the oil company headquaters in nigeria, some upstream  oil companies like saipem, chevron, mobil, total, shell and sapetro is in lagos. Even when there is no oil company in lagos and lagos is not the capital of nigeria.

If this oil companies can relocate to the niger delta then lagos will be correctly populated.
Anyother solution will never work and will amount to using oxygen to put off a burning flame.if you build infrastructure like road and schools , it will attract more people .
as u can see river (port harcount) is indeed an emerging economy in nigeria

ameache has to do it right, oil companies love lagos because of the population, airport and security

once those sturtures are in port harcount, then give the state about 10 yrs, u would see the magic as people would influx the state

currently in port harcount(no man's land) houses about 10% northerner 30%yorubas 40% igbos 20% ijaws/ikwerri and other minorities

i just hope port harcount can take advantage of its current low population and do some housing plan unlike lagos

companies would rush there, also there is need to check MEND, BAKASSI BOYS ETC before they can move

Momodu Lamuye

Momodu Ayinla Lamuye was a titled Nigerian traditional ruler who held the office of Oluwo of Iwo. He is considered one of the most zealous Muslim Obas in Yoruba land during the nineteenth century and used his office to consolidate the religion in his domain.

Life

Lamuye was born to the family of Oluwo Ogunmakinde Anide. Interestingly, he was given the Muslim name of Momodu at birth.
He succeeded his father but his choice drew complaints from Iwo traditional religion adherents within the royal households who raised concerns about his practice of Islam and how he would be able to carry out with traditional rituals. Lamuye doused the tension by accepting to give necessary assistance to officials involved in traditional rites.
Lamuye's reign witnessed a gradual growth in Islam in the town. However, it is noted that Islam preceded the reign of Lamuye in Iwo, it was supposedly established in the town during the reign of Oluwo Alawusa (c. 1795-1820). However, another Iwo tradition dates the beginning of the religion in Iwo to a man called Momodu an itinerant preacher during the reign of Oluwo Layilumi who died around 1750.
In 1863, he had to deal with a revolt in his domain led by the Balogun, Alli who was a powerful leader prior to the coronation of Lamuye. He succeeded in containing the revolt by recruiting loyalist troops to quell the rebellion and contacting Bashorun Ogunmola to allow Alli to remain in exile in Ibadan.
