Hmm. So Oga photographer was busy click clicking on his camera while the heat was on and nobody lost his/her nerve about it. From what I've learnt about the westerners there's a safe work system for all they do. From whisking President Bush to Airforce 1, calling VP Cheney in to run ops till the threat was established, bringing the wives of the President and VP in, photographer doing his thing and all other behind the scene moves, everything works as part of an articulated system. I'm sure lots of drills must have been done on this. Naija we have a lot to learn. Take note. |
There's always that tough looking guy sitting at the front bonnet. Firewoh thingz |
Akpobaro:Oga. Abeg na who bite you? Hehehehe. The truth hurts. |
Really! The US government supports the armies of Egypt, Israel and Bahrain. The last time I checked the armed forces of these countries have been involved in one human right abuse or the other. It's high time Nigerians realized that the US govt's continuous refusal to assist militarily has nothing to do with gay rights. Rather the US govt is punishing Nigeria for its continual refusal to allow them establish a military high command (Africomm) within the country. The way of out for Nigeria Option 1: Allow the US govt establish AFRICOMM in Nigeria. That way book haram will be crushed same goes for all militias within the country (MEND, MASSOB, OPC). Oil bunkerings will also be stopped. The downside is that the cabals who are actually retired and serving generals will be out of business. This is the real reason option 1 will never be allowed to work. Option 2: Allow the universities in the country to lead in weapons research as is done in other countries. This option cannot work because the Nigeria military can never swallow their ego and partner with bloody civilians. Option 3: Outsource the job to defense contractors such as Executive Outcome. Which was what GEJ did and in six weeks all lost territories were recovered. The downside to this is that you will have a lazy and ineffective army that relies on mercenaries to get the tough job done. |

ken1982:Hello bro, the pre inspection involve checks on operator and banksman's competency, site restrictions (we look out for other hazards from the site esp electrical hazards) and general walkaround inspection. Inspections are conducted by the safety team with background in engineering and the sciences. ken1982:Thanks for the compliments. I'm sure you are doing great too. I have a lot to learn from you as well. |
Twaci, this thread don make front page before na |
Hmm. |
PubLlcEnemy:You live in Nigeria? Then there's 99.99% chance one of the items you've got on is Aba made. |
Yeah! That list is incomplete without a trip to York. You'll remain high afterwards. Thank me later. ![]() |
If this news is anything to go by then I think President Buhari is getting it all wrong. Ms. Ogar, the last time I checked, works for the Secret Service and when knowledge of her posting becomes public knowledge then the life of one of our service men has just been put on the balance. This is the height of unprofessionalism. |
Overall crane operation entails crane inspection, proper site coordination and site restrictions. In my facility it is not a routine ops so it requires a PTW and comes with a checklist. I may not remember all but here's about the basics. Check for operators competence/ qualifications. Check the cranes maintenance and inspection records. You also inspect for possible hydraulic, air or oil leaks. Other things you should check for are structural deficiencies, secure counter weights, functional controls, running line of the main hoist drum and load charts. Warning signs and lights should be checked. You can ask the operator to reverse the crane. Ensure its backup beeper gives off alarms that are above the noise level of the site. The crane should be rotated to check for clearance and overall stability. You should also check for jerky movements during operations. The tires should also be checked for cuts and wears. The boom, brakes and clutch should also be checked for proper operation. These are the much I can reel off my head at the moment. |
zeongeon:You're spot on! An incident happened at my facility sometime last year which made me wary of regulatory officials. We were behind schedule on an installation project due to the unavailability of mobile cranes to perform some lifting operations. The available ones were not suitable for the loads to be lifted. So an order was placed for the right crane from another state. Some few distance to the facility the crane was stopped by some safety inspectors attached to the local district. They okayed the crane certifying it fit for use (I later learnt money was used to grease some palms). However, when the crane got to the facility, I took one look at the crane and wrote it off immediately. The project manager was livid saying govt safety officers had okayed the crane and if I had any objections I should talk to our HQ. Few hours later and the crane was dropping loads. Near misses here and there! The project manager later came and was like " Safety! Person go die here o! Write the gaddam thing off!" Safety should never be compromised! Now I make sure all pre- inspection checks are carried out by my own team. |
Nice one @ Zeongeon. To obtain management commitment to HSE, I try as much as possible to get safety to complement operations/production. After which they naturally put safety first. One challenge I have had has been the attitude of regulatory authorities to HSE. Sometimes, I wish these guys could be more thorough and professional in the discharge of their duties. Most often times they are more interested in the PR stuffs that comes with their visit than what the organization does. It's not been helpful as it gives top management the impression that it's sometimes okay to relax the rules on HSE. |
zeongeon:I'd say safety culture is the shared attitudes, values and beliefs of people at work concerning the risks they encounter as well as their perception towards the necessity and effectiveness of preventive measures. Hey! Let's share our experiences here. What's been your greatest challenge so far in the HSE field and how did you overcome it? |
In Nigeria, it's only a football game that can attract this kind of crowd. |
Giyerte:You cannot eat a crab in secret. Iran sponsoring terrorism is an open secret. |

Nobilis has said it all. |
The problem is not Iran getting nuclear capabilities. The world should be more concerned with their potential to export of this capabilities to terrorist groups and rogue factions. |
Racist topic. Racist photo. |
NifemiOlu:Ekun o! I love Omu Aran. |
The problem with Nigeria is that there are more Hausas, Igbos, Yorubas, Ijaws, Nupes than Nigerians. |
SA and their Shaka Zulu mentality. A public figure makes a statement that leads to racial profiling and the SA govt cannot take a decisive action. Mind you this is not the first time they are displaying their barbaric acts. |
liljboy:A word used to refer to non ngwas. More like saying visitors or strangers. |
HungerBAD:Of course an Ngwa man won the election! I just explained why the ngwas didn't voted for Dr Okezie and not Dr Otti. To answer your second question, if they do I'd have been eaten a long time ago. ![]() |
Note: This will be a long read. Most people living outside Abia state are yet to come to terms with the reason why the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP Dr Okezie Ikpeazu emerged victorious in the just concluded governorship election. You may be wondering if Abians are blind to vote the PDP considering the inefficiency of the out-going governor Chief T.A. Orji. Well, the case of Abia was the case of the Lagos governorship election played all over again although with a twist. It was more of a statement made by the largest tribe in the state- the Ngwas. A bit of history: Abia is made up of different tribes, the Ngwas being the largest in terms of population size and number of local governments. They are also the largest clan in the south east according to wikipedia. Their land is a very fertile plain (compared to that of other tribes), water is clean and readily available and the people predominantly farmers. Ngwa land stretches from Isiala- Ngwa to Obingwa, cuts across the entire Aba and ends at Ukwa Ngwa. The Ngwas are very accommodating. If you need land from a typical ngwa man, all you need do is ask. The reply you would get is 'ala juru eju' (the land is abundant) and you would be asked to make your choice. This kind gesture has been termed acts of foolishness by other tribes (Ndi ohuhu as the Ngwa man would call them) in Abia and as such the Ngwa man is held in contempt. Most parts of Aba were acquired by Ndi ohuhu through this means. Today, the Ngwa man is held in contempt and ngwa has come to be a derogatory word even in Aba. Most Ndi ohuhu would frown at giving off their daughters in marriage to their hosts, sneering at them and calling them names even to their faces. Talk about being victims of xenophobia in your own land! Now back to the elections; Dr Okezie (PDP) is from Obingwa, Chief Nyerere (APC) is ukwa ngwa and Dr. Alex Otti (APGA) is from Aro- ngwa. Most Ngwas don't have any problem with any of these candidates however the way other tribes have being going about the election, using derogatory terms on the Ngwas whilst throwing their weight behind everybody's favorite Dr. Otti made the Ngwas pick Dr Okezie as their choice. This has nothing to do with T.A. Orji, he is well hated in Aba and people will keep plummeting him with sachet waters to express their displeasure. The Ngwas have used their population and votes to make a statement- No man should be despised in his own land. PS: I am a core APC fan and my views represent a factual and unbiased dissection of the election in Abia state. |
Eleyi gidi gan! Dayum! |
There's something about cheats. These people cheat and have this innate ability of conjuring up reasons to rationalize their actions. Only a fool will accept such reason; you know why? 'Cause they will still cheat again. |
omowolewa:You are spot on! I'm sad about the line my fellow country men have towed. It's been quite embarrassing I must say. Nigeria is approaching true federalism and most people are not comfy with it. |
