rodeo0070: The Lagos State Government has commenced the sales of Lake Rice at various outlets across the State in preparation for the coming Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Olayiwole Onasanya disclosed that Lake Rice is available for sale at sales centres across the State including the Agricultural Development Authority Complex, Oko-Oba; Lagos State Agriculture Inputs Supply Authority (LAISA), Ojo and the Blue Roof at LTV Complex, Agidingbi, Ikeja.
Onasanya also outlined other centres where the products are obtainable such as Temu Farm Service Center, Epe; Odogunyan Farm Service Center, Ikorodu; Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere; Ministry of Agriculture Area Office, Ajah and Mobolaji Johnson Sports Center, Rowe Park at Yaba.
He revealed that the price of a 50Kg bag of the Lake Rice is N14,000; 25kg bag is N7,000; while 10kg bag will sell for N3,000, warning that the Lake Rice should not be sold above the approved prices.
Dr. Onasanya reiterated the State Government’s commitment towards boosting food security in the State, stressing that Government would continue to ensure the adequate production and fair distribution of Lake Rice across the State with a view to making the product available to residents who visit designated sales centres for purchase.

Samorenews: A Lagos-based man, Mathew Isichei Chukwuebuka, has narrated how he mysteriously found himself in Ibadan, Oyo State, after answering a phone call from a father and son kidnap gang.

He said nothing was put on the ground to secure infrastructure and manpower in the State as the security agencies found themselves trailing the highly mobile and logistically superior criminal franchise. Bell noted that killing, bank robberies, jailbreak by Boko Haram insurgents, attack of offices of security agencies, kidnapping and other forms of criminality categorized the previous government and there was no political will and opacity in the use of security votes.
The Governor also added that Kogi under the previous administration suffered the most terrifying periods of extended and unrelenting insecurity the state has ever witnessed since inception. Since he came to power, Bello said the state which was initially bedeviled with all these criminal vices, in April 2018, ranked as the 2nd most peaceful state in the country after Osun and the most peaceful in the North of Nigeria by the Nigerian Peace Index. Ify05: A Kano Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered that a 30-year-old man, Balarabe Salisu, who allegedly sodomised his 20-year-old wife, be remanded in prison, pending legal advice.
The police charged Salisu, who is ‘deaf and dumb’, with unnatural offence, NAN reports.
Chief Magistrate Muhammad Jibril ordered the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
Jibril adjourned the case until July 10 for further mention.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Insp. Pogu Lale, informed the court that Malam Abubakar Umar of Dorayi Karama Quarters Kano, reported the case at Dorayi Babba Police Division Kano, on June 14.

MediaGuru36: The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal has fixed Thursday, June 13 for hearing of the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar’s application for access to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s electronic server.
Igbere TV reports that Abubakar and his party, PDP are challenging the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari and his party, All Progressives Congress at the February 23 presidential election.
INEC had declared Buhari and APC the winner of the February 23 election polling 15,191,847 votes to defeat his closest rival, Abubakar, who polled 11,262,978 votes.
But Atiku and the PDP, in their petition filed on March 18 to challenge the outcome of the poll, contended that “from the data obtained from INEC’s server, the true, actual and correct results showed that we polled a total of 18,356,732 votes to defeat Buhari whom they said scored 16,741,430 votes.”
By calculation, Atiku and PDP claimed to have defeated Buhari by 1,615,302 votes.
However, in its reply filed on April 10 to counter the petition, INEC urged the tribunal to dismiss the petition, insisting that the petitioners’ claims were false.
It said, through its lead counsel, Yunus Usman (SAN), that it collated the results of the election manually and never transmitted them electronically.
It added that it kept no server where results could have been transmitted electronically and stored as alleged by the petitioners.
However, the petitioners, in their application filed on May 8, maintained that “INEC kept central servers in which information was recorded and stored in database packets relating to accreditation of voters and transmission of results from the presidential election”.
They sought to be permitted to inspect the said servers and the card readers used for the conduct of the poll, examine and analyse the information obtained from them.
They also prayed for the tribunal’s permission to be allowed to file a report of their inspection, examination and analysis of the content of the facilities.
The applicants filed 13 grounds to back their application and their claims in it.
Part of the grounds of the application acknowledged that INEC was constitutionally and statutorily vested with the responsibility to conduct and manage the presidential election and set up electronic data central servers.
Maintaining that INEC deployed the servers for the conduct of the February 23 poll, they said as part of the grounds of their application, “the results of the election were electronically transmitted to the 1st respondent’s Central Server”.

The Federal Government may relax the ban on importation of vehicles through the land border.
The government had in January 2017 ordered a ban on importation of vehicles through the land borders.
The restriction on the importation of vehicles followed that of rice, whose imports through the land borders had been banned since April 2016.
But the government may reconsider its decision after the successful implementation of a new initiative by the Nigeria Customs Service and the Customs Service of the Republic of Benin to automate and network all electronic information about incoming cargoes through the border.
The Comptroller General, NCS, Col Hameed Ali (retd.), who was represented by the Assistant Comptroller, Information and Communication Technology, Benjamin Aber, at a stakeholders’ meeting on the new initiative, expressed confidence that with a successful implementation of the bilateral electronic connectivity programme between Nigeria and Republic of Benin, the Federal Government might lift the ban on items coming through the land border.
Ali said the decision of the government to shut down importation of vehicles through the border was because the government did not have a reliable system that would assist in controlling importation.
With declarations made for imports transiting from either of the countries electronically shared, the process of import and export would be done in a transparent manner and the government seeing such transparency would be convinced to relax its stance on land border importation.
He said “Vehicles were formerly being imported through the Seme border, but suddenly it was banned because the pressure of enforcement of anti-smuggling for vehicles and claiming of lives and revenue were becoming too alarming, so the government had to restrict the importation through Nigerian ports.
“When vehicles came through the land border, we did not have a record of how the imported cars came here and fake documentation became a common phenomenon. The ban was just a control measure against the practice.”
He added, “By the time we successfully deploy this reliable, transparent and predictable programme that would assist government agencies, not only Customs, to control and regulate the importation of vehicles, the government may decide to relax such restrictions.”
Ali said the establishment of the automated platform and bilateral connectivity meant that any truck that left the Republic of Benin, the information would already be remotely sent in English to Nigeria Customs Service system.
He also gave the assurance that illegal checkpoints mounted by Customs officers and other security agencies along the border corridors would disappear automatically.
“The roads also have to be fixed, because we cannot automate clearing of goods between the Customs and at the end, the stakeholders would be complaining,” he pointed out.
He said the new platform would be deployed by June 20.

Federal Government-owned refineries, located in Port Harcourt, Kaduna and Warri, lost over N231bn in the last four years as the proposed rehabilitation of the plants suffered a setback.
The Port Harcourt Refining Company has two refineries, while the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company and the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company have one each.
The refineries lost N34.57bn from June to December 2015; N8.64bn in 2016 (data for January to August showed); N47.19bn in 2017, and N132.51bn in 2018, according to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
When President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office on May 29, 2015, all the refineries were not processing crude oil, with Port Harcourt refinery sitting idle since January of that year while Warri and Kaduna stopped refining in February of the same year, according to available data from the NNPC.
In 2015, Port Harcourt, Kaduna and Warri refineries were idle for eight months, seven months and nine months, respectively, losing N10.05bn, N36.03bn and N21.39bn.
Warri refinery was idle for five months in 2016; KRPC did not refine crude for six months, and PHRC was only idle in September.
In 2017, Kaduna, Warri and Port Harcourt refineries were idle for six, five and two months, respectively, losing N32.61bn, N22.14bn and N11.51bn.
Kaduna refinery did not process crude oil for 11 months in 2018, while Port Harcourt and Warri were idle for seven and three months respectively, losing N31bn, N59.96bn and N41.71bn.
According to the latest data from the NNPC, Kaduna and Port Harcourt refineries remained idle in January this year.
The refineries have a combined installed capacity of 445,000 barrels per day but have continued to operate far below the installed capacity for many years.
The NNPC had planned to rehabilitate the refineries in order to attain a minimum of 90 per cent capacity utilisation, using third-party financiers and the original refinery builders to provide the requisite funding and technical support.
The corporation, its transaction advisers and an inter-ministerial team on refineries rehabilitation, were said to have reviewed expressions of interest from 28 potential financiers.
But after over one and half years, the negotiations with financiers stalled in December 2018 due to varying positions on key commercial terms.
The NNPC said it had abandoned the strategy of seeking offshore funding due to ‘onerous conditions’ demanded by the proposed financiers.
It said it had to resort to immediate direct funding from internal cash flows and debt financing from the financial markets for the rehabilitation project.
On March 21, 2019, the corporation announced the commencement of the first phase of the rehabilitation of the 210,000 bpd capacity Port Harcourt Refinery complex, comprising the 60,000 bpd old refinery built in 1965 and the 150,000bpd new refinery inaugurated in 1989.
It said the project would be executed by Milan-based Maire Tecnimont S.p.A, in collaboration with its Nigerian affiliate, Tecnimont Nigeria.
The Group Managing Director, NNPC, Dr Maikanti Baru, was quoted as saying that at the end of phase 1, the refinery complex should be able to reach 60 per cent capacity utilisation.
The national oil firm said the first phase of the rehabilitation contract, which would run for six months, would involve detailed integrity check and equipment inspection of the Port Harcourt refinery complex beginning from the end of March 2019.

fergie001: Religious bodies in Kaduna state have expressed divergent views on the passage of the bill to regulate preaching in the state.
The state house of assembly had, on Friday, passed the executive bill which was introduced in 2016.
Reacting to the development, Sunny Akanni, counsel to the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), threatened to sue the state assembly for disobeying a court order restraining it from taking any action on the bill pending the determination of a suit before the state high court.
According to him, in March 2017, the PFN filed a suit against the bill on the grounds that it is offensive to fundamental human rights.
“We are surprised that despite the court order restraining the house from continuing with the hearing or anything on the controversial bill pending the determination of the matter, the lawmakers went ahead to pass it,” Akanni said.
“We are going to serve forms 47 and 48 on the house for disobedient of court order and if they don’t respond, we will charge the clerk and the speaker of the house for contempt of court.”
Similarly, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) said it is studying the revised bill and will sue the state assembly if it is not satisfied with the provisions.
Joseph Hayab, state chairman of the association, urged Nasir el-Rufai, governor of the state, not to sign the bill in haste.
“We are going to test that bill in the court of law because we are in a democracy, people should not just bring laws from the back door,” he said.
“You don’t make laws with the intent of causing havoc, you make laws with the intent of helping people to unite. You don’t make laws and claiming that the purpose of the law is for peace but the law itself is used to cause crisis.
“We are stakeholders in nation building, but when people choose to treat us as if we don’t understand what is happening, then we have to show them that we also have a right.”
On the contrary, the state chapter of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), applauded the bill, saying the Muslim body was given the opportunity to make input.
Yusuf Adamu, state secretary of the JNI, said anybody who will preach according to the books should not be afraid of the bill.
“We were given chance to make inputs. CAN and JNI were asked to make inputs. CAN refused to do anything, we (JNI) made our inputs and it was considered,” he said.
“So as far as I am concerned, you should have no reason to fear if you know you are going to preach according to the books.
“I think we should throw away sentiments and be objective. We were asked to make our comments (on the bill). If you refused to make your comments, you have no reason to complain.”

arinze198: First of all, all praise to Almighty God, who gives power to whom he wills. Political victory came to Saraki in the past so easily that he forgot who he was. He became haughty and prideful. To the proud, the arrogant and the haughty, no one except God is powerful by himself or herself. Power is given, bestowed or granted and it must be kept in trust with reverence or it will be retrieved. Saraki got invested in himself so much as to take his people for granted and hold them in disdain.
When I started attacking Saraki on this wall and in my column, many may not know I once sat with this man, at the same table at a wedding reception, in which I was “chairperson”. We exchanged banter and he was quite personable, likeable and young.
There is nothing wrong with ambition; there is everything wrong with vaulting ambition. Vaulting ambition blunders the ambitious into thinking everything is fair game, it reduces their humanity and exposes an ugly side that is very alienating.
Politically, Saraki has the best resume to be anything in this country. He was governor for 8 unbroken years. He was Chairman of Governor’s forum which meant he knew 35 most powerful men in various states at the time and championed their interests. He was in the Senate for 8 years, that means he knew at least three most powerful political players from each state of the federation.
From birth, Saraki was never in lack. How could a man so blessed, be so greedy and petulant? How could a man so privileged and young let us down? Like Dimeji Bankole, he had it all and squandered it all. That was my major angst. Saraki would sit on his chair in his vast living room and old men would crouch on the floor with him nodding at them with mindless inattention. He divvied up Kwara State resources with such reckless wonder. He thought he was Kwara.

It is now a tradition in our world today where a woman tries on varieties of beauty enhancement just look gorgeous as they say. Regarding wearing artificial hair such as Brazilian or any other kinds is haram in Islam and every believing woman should never put them on.
This below Hadith justifies the prohibition of this act.
Narrated by 'Aaisha (may Allaah be pleased with her) that an Ansari woman gave her daughter in marriage and the hair of the latter started falling out. The Ansari women came to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned that to him and said, "Her (my daughter's) husband suggested that I should let her wear false hair." The Messenger of Allaah (Pbuh) said, "No, (don't do that) for Allaah sends His curses upon such ladies who lengthen their hair artificially."

Wisdom58: Kwara State Government on Thursday refuted claims that it had sacked workers employed by the previous administration.
A statement signed by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Agboola Olarewaju on Thursday in Ilorin, said it was not true that Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq sacked workers engaged by the previous administration.
According to NAN, the statement titled: “10 facts about sunset workers engaged by Gov. Ahmed,” explained that the category of workers not paid for the month of May were those employed two or three weeks ago, but backdated to November 2018.
According to Olarewaju, most of these workers have never been captured on the government’s payroll before and so couldn’t have been paid May salary. “Those appointments are called ‘sunset’ appointments (appointments made by a governor/administration on the eve of departure).
“Instead of summary sack, what the government resolved to do is to look at their qualifications and ascertain that they are qualified to be employed.
“In Ogun, Bauchi and some other states, ‘sunset’ employees were sacked with immediate effect,”Olarewaju said.
He wondered why they were not employed until a few weeks to the expiration of the former administration’s tenure.
Olarewaju reiterated that the “sunset workers have not been sacked; their employment status will be looked into and salaries reinstated for those above board.’’
