I listed 500 Nigerians who stole govt funds and nothing happened – Nzeribe From IKENNA EMEWU, Abuja Saturday October 29, 2011 https://www.sunnewsonline.com/images/nzeribe-pol.jpg •Francis Arthur Nzeribe Age and time might have slowed down the pace of the maverick Senator Arthur Nzeribe, but the vehemence of his conviction remains ablaze as usual. From the way he fumes, not minding the situation of things, about the prevailing developments in Nigeria, he remains himself, unfazed, undiluted in sharp criticisms and unrelenting in what he believes in. Until this encounter with Senator Nzeribe last week, in his Abuja home, you would not have known that of all his qualities, he could pass for a prophet and one with stunning foresight about the happenings in the nation. About 22 years ago, he wrote a book, Nigeria: Seven years after Shehu Shagari; Who next; What next? In 1990, when he published the book, it is possible many Nigerians never saw the malady of corruption the extent he did. However, most astounding are the solutions he proffered to the crises. As he spoke in this interview, making constant references to the book, one could not but ask for a copy to verify his claims on how elaborate he had envisaged anti-corruption war by the government. But the book proved him true. What’s your position on corruption now, as a result of the fact that you are no longer in public office? I spoke and wrote against corruption and itemised ways it can be fought and results achieved in my book, at Chapter 12. From what we all see today, the ideas I postulated in the book are more relevant now than when I put them forward. I am bold to say that I am not a latter-day apostle of a corruption-free Nigeria. I once again tell Nigerians that the time to fight corruption in Nigeria is now; the effect of corruption is becoming more profound and unbearable. In fact, Nigeria is sliding into anarchy, and it must be rescued. We have had leaders who paid lip-service to the war against corruption, and I think this can’t continue. It is now certain, beyond doubt, that corruption-induced lack of will, on the part of our leaders as well as deceit, are the fundamental clogs in the wheel of progress of Nigeria. Innocent citizens are now finding it difficult to move about in search of what to eat for fear of being bombed. Insecurity of life and property has become the order of the day, no thanks to this monster called corruption. What best way do you think corruption should be wiped out of our system? The billions of taxpayers’ money already spent in providing security in Nigeria could have gone into projects that would have ensured employment of our unemployed youths. Yet, nobody is willing to confront the real cause of unemployment in Nigeria. The current spate of bombing in Nigeria is direct fallout of endemic corruption in the system and the attendant loss of interest in governance by the citizens. So, the best and most assured way to fight corruption is to provide jobs for the people and also to make sure the workers are well remunerated in addition to the punishment system to ensure deterrent. http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/features/newsonthehour/2011/oct/29/newsbreak-29-10-2011-001.html |

C/River community threatens to shut Obasanjo Farm over compensation on OCTOBER 27, 2011 · in NEWS By Johnbosco Agbakwuru Calabar – Ekong Anaku community in Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State has threatened to seize Obasanjo Farm located in the community. The community alleged that they were not adequately compensated for the loss of economic trees in the large expanse of land acquired by former President Olusegun Obasanjo for his oil palm project. The community claimed that when the land was acquired during the tenure of Governor Donald Duke, the landlords were not involved and despite the loss of economic trees, compensation had not been paid. They alleged that indigenes engaged by the company had not been allowed to reach managerial level. The threat was made during the commissioning of an ultra-modern oil mill by the state governor, Mr. Liyel Imoke in company of Obasanjo and Duke. A community leader and one of the persons at the forefront of the struggle for compensation, Prince Celestine Awor, said though the company was expected to bring development to the community, the people must be properly integrated in the running of the outfit as well as paid their necessary royalties. He said: “Today there is a lot of excitement. I believe something good will come out of it. What you have seen here is something that will generate employment. The struggle is to ensure that this investment does not frustrate us.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/10/criver-community-threatens-to-shut-obasanjo-farm-over-compensation/ |
Sweetnecta:Your muslim brethren seem to think otherwise since they complain on why we Christians hold bible on one hand and urinate with the other hand. This is our own BIBLE o, bought with our money and has nothing to do with Allah. Oluwatoyin was murdered by the likes of Darne and Habumak because from the vitriolic comments they made here, it is obvious they won't spare my head if I piss or fart on the quran. BitterNecta, if you are truly mortified by the murder of Oluwatosin by your Islamic brethren, please make reparations by assembling thousands of true muslims and issuing a public apology to her family. But you will not do that because you are afraid your Islamic brethren will issue a fatwa on your head. |

The actress was spotted a fortnight ago, precisely on Friday and Saturday,October 14th and 15th 2011 at the crooner’s house where she spent the weekend and paraded herself in a sexy night attire. Other sources also confirm that the two have been an item long before now and have been spotted many times together in Ghana as well. I know for sure Nadia dated Republic of Congo musician, Fally Ipupa, this one I'm not 100% sure, though I heard from a very reliable source that it's true. From Genny to Nadia? habumaks:Stop making up stories to make yourself feel fine. I ask again, do you think the killing of Oluwatoyin over the quran in Gombe 4 years ago is justified? |
igbo2011:Stop making fun of prayers. |
darne:Was that why Gombe state muslims murdered Oluwatoyin Olusase for desecrating the quran in 2007?. What did she do again, fart on the quran?, torch or tear it?; and she lost her life over it. From the way you muslims are complaining about Christians urinating while holding their bible, its obvious you are calling Christians f00ls for not protecting their holy book at all cost. Our lord Jesus did not send us to murder people over holy book o. Even when Peter drew his sword, our Jesus rebuked him for it. How can you seriously murder someone over a damn book published by Heinemann or Abiola press?. Who is nuts here?. |

Libya to try Gaddafi’s killers on OCTOBER 27, 2011 · in NEWS BENGHAZI (AFP) – Libya’s new rulers said on Thursday they would prosecute the killers of ousted dictator Muammar Gaddafi following the international outcry over the circumstances of his death. “With regards to Gaddafi , we do not wait for anybody to tell us,” NTC vice chairman Abdel Hafiz Ghoga. “We had already launched an investigation. We have issued a code of ethics in handling of prisoners of war. I am sure that was an individual act and not an act of revolutionaries or the national army,” the top interim official said. “Whoever is responsible for that (Gaddafi’s killing) will be judged and given a fair trial.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/10/libya-to-try-kadhafi-killers/ |
Oyo State needs prayer Friday, 28 October 2011 Thank God, the “progressives” are now at the helm of affairs in Oyo State. However, it is disheartening that the catalogue of promises made by these progressives have remained a pipe dream, five months after their inauguration. Prior to the April elections, hope of the masses was high, given the goodies promised the people of the state during the period of electioneering. The unemployed citizens were guaranteed good jobs within the first 100 days in office; teachers were assured that their lost glory would be restored; the governor even said that teachers were not slaves and that they deserved prompt payment as and when due; marketmen and women as well as artisans, who willingly voted for the “progressives” now appear to have become disillusioned with the negative signals emanating from the Agodi Government House Today marks the fifth month of the inauguration of this present government, yet the socio-economic situation of the state remains quite appalling. It seems the government is on a sabbatical holiday. To be candid, the state government’s socio-economic policies are harsh, anti-people, and vindictive. Lamentation is all over the place, due to the government’s slow pace of handling crucial issues, particularly at a time much is expected from it. The government is deliberately stepping on toes with its needless demolition of shops and kiosks across the state without an arrangement in place to relocate the affected shop owners. The earlier promise made by the government to create 20,000 jobs seems to have been abandoned, while people employed by the previous administration are being sacked in the name of restructuring. Teachers’ hopes have dimmed while the implementation of the earlier promised minimum wage has become a mirage. This piece, therefore, is a clarion call to Oyo State citizens to take it upon themselves as an important duty to pray on a daily basis for our state, because from the way things are going, we really need divine intervention. May the Lord come to our rescue at this trying moment. Oke Peter Olatunde, Ibadan http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/letters/30358-oyo-state-needs-prayer |
Senior citizens get N5,000 in Ekiti •Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi with some beneficiaries of the scheme, yesterday •Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi with some beneficiaries of the scheme, yesterday Many indigent Ekiti senior citizens were elated by the government’s gesture as they got N5,000 each under the Social Security Scheme for the Elderly. Governor Kayode Fayemi flagged off the scheme in Ise-Ekiti. Fayemi lamented the level of poverty in Africa, saying in the past, the aged were taken care of by an effective social system, but civilisation has broken the bonds of kinship. Fayemi said while it might be impossible to bring back the kinship spirit, his administration would cater for the elderly. He said the scheme would be free of gender or political bias. The governor said: “Civilisation has eroded the kinship system; it is now everyone to himself and God for us all. “Consequently, people live the latter part of their lives in abject poverty, with attendant diseases, emotional breakdown and frustrating social disaffection. “It is important for me to clarify that the payment of the N5,000 stipend to each of the registered beneficiaries that commenced today will be made regularly on the 25th of the month, when all workers are getting paid. “All complaints of inability to register during the enumeration of the elderly shall be looked into. It is our intention to undertake a comprehensive review after the first six months of the programme. “I assure you all that government has already put in motion the process of drafting a legislation to back this initiative and ensure its sustainability on a long term.” Commissioner for Labour, Productivity and Human Capital Development Mrs. Olubunmi Adelugba said the programme is the first in West Africa. She said the programme complements the ongoing free health services for the elderly in the state. Mrs. Adelugba said any one who is 65 years and above, and had resided in the state for three years is qualified to benefit from the scheme. A 75-year beneficiary from Isan-Ekiti, Mrs. Juliana Jegede, thanked the governor for the initiative. http://www.ekiti.com/ekitinews/display_search.php?news_source=&news_id=105635 |
kcswat:That's what I don't understand. Their obsession with the bible is second to none but Christians could care less whether the quran is blue, black, gold or whatever. I think it's because many muslims are not fulfilled by their faith. They didn't get what they bargained for and are still seriously searching for the truth and genuine happiness. |
