Yes, there are. There are registered midwives (RM) who don't have the RN (registered nurse) qualification. There are also nurses that have the RM qualification without the RN. There are some with both RN and RM qualifications.

Yea..quite true..but sometimes they pick one or two persons with technical competence n qualification.. And then fill up 99% with the man-know-who candidates. I normally advise candidates to always put in their best at interviews-You might jst be that lucky 0.1% person with what they need but lacking a godfather.

The NUC is no longer using a scale of 5, the new system is based on a scale of 4. First Class is 3.5 - 4. Second Class is 3 - 3.49. second class lower is 2.0 - 2.99. I was shocked that upon recalculation my CGPA which was 4.0 using the scale of 5 turned to 2.93 in the scale of 4, not even up to second class upper. This is not good.

Hw did you calculate it? Coz 4.0/5.0 is equivalent to 3.2/4.0....check ur calculation again.

Everyone in the health sector competes with and bitches the medical doctor, yet tries to stick their nose up.
To me the euphoria greeting this 'milestone' is a pointer to lack of professional pride, the desire to be seen as equals to the medical doctor, and the desire to get over the fence, what you couldn't get through the gates.
Nigerians and our craze for titles, or what's it with wanting to take up the title of "doctor" when there should be more pride in the title "Pharm " if truly you love your profession. Even the nurses and other paramedics are being adressed as 'doctors' when patients see them in white (coat), so I don't get the fuss.
For some time now I've been looking for how to do without the Dr prefix and title, yet that doesn't change the fact about who I am or reduce my professional skills.
Congrats to the pharmacists though, MedLab would pick up their own battle now.

I think the senseless competition is due to bad policies (e.g having different salary structures, board representation, etc), bad leadership attitude (mostly in hospital settings) and then the NMA's domineering/controlling attitude (it's natural for humans to react when they feel this way). I worked in a health organization that had one salary structure ( but the percentages were quite different and well spelt out for the different professionals with Drs having highest percentages). We had only one ranking style/system. We had one strong union with rotational leadership pattern across d different professions (though different professionals had their sub-group meetings or associations). Everybody was important and was given a sense of belonging.
We were all colleagues and greeted ourselves by first or last name depending on which one the person prefers. Though for d senior colleagues we must add title to show respect. We were our brothers' keeper.
I worked for two yrs there before going to an FMC to meet a very hostile environment; health workers (care givers) beefing themselves, keeping malice, not greeting themselves, carrying shoulders here and there. Further worsening an already dilapidated system.... with the poor patients at the receiving end.
I couldn't cope so I left after 4months.

It's quite unfortunate.

Nimasa is abt 170K level 8. My friend works there. Level 9 190K, level 10 220K, level 12 is 260k....they have some other allowances sha.

In some professional courses you need a B (60%) to pass and no continuous assessment. U need a CGPA of atleast 2.4 to stay in d system and if you have three carry overs n above, you repeat the class n take all d courses again.There are variations from course to course and university to university.
CGPA is jst a scale, it can be 4.0, 5.0 or 6.0 depending on the school n country and does not demonstrate any superiority or difficulty of a course/institution. I have done an MS dat u must maintain GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0.

And we are doing pretty fine. she's d most beautiful lady on earth. People keep staring at her wherever she goes coz of her beauty. Yet I was able to control the feelings. The closest we ever came was to peck her hand. With diligence and commitment it's very possible.
