CareerRe: What Can I Do With A Degree In Philosophy? by AlphaT1(m): 10:25am On Mar 15, 2017
Grammywinner:
Good day Fam! I go by the name Macquis. I studied Philosophy and graduated from the University in the year 2014, went for the compulsory youth service in the year that followed. Ever since then, getting a job has been quite a tale for another day. By the way, I graduated with a 2.1. I've applied for a number of jobs but haven't been able to secure any.

I really don't understand, maybe it's as a result of the course I studied in the University. I keep suspecting that though, not entirely sure. The purpose of creating this thread anyway is to seek the guidance of Nairalanders who may have been in my shoes as regards studying my course (Philosophy) or known someone, preferably a Nigerian, who studied my course. I would like to know the sought of jobs I should apply for or better still the Industry where my skill and degree would be best appreciated.

Thanks for checking out this thread. Looking forward to hearing from you guys.
My brother don't let anyone talk you down coz you read a particular course, your doing well in life is a function of what you can do. The question is how have you prepared yourself in what you can do? What are your skills? I was doing well as a practicing pharmacist but I didn't stop there just because I read pharmacy and was practicing it, I took occupational safety courses, got some professional certifications, did an MSc in occupational Safety and Health, did an advance PGD in Epidemiology, took a maritime emergency preparedness and response certificate etc etc. I switched completely to the maritime sector and the pharmacy became an alternative source of income. Some of my friends still ponder and keep asking what is a pharmacist doing in safety n maritime field.

Prepare yourself, get some skills and certifications and no one would even remember you read philosophy.

I went for a particular interview and after engaging the panel in a discussion on my papers and skills, they told me I was over-qualified, that I could only be hired as a management staff bt at d moment dat vacancy is not available so they will hire me as a consultant..... There is nothing like preparing oneself for the future by acquiring skills.

They should go for counseling together and try to work on things before divorcing. The husband himself should apologize and try his best to change. If that doesn't work, then parting would be the best solution. I will never encourage a woman to stay with an unrepentant cheat.
My dear about 90% of men cheat, bt as long as they are not caught, they remain saints/innocent....na only who dem catch na him be cheat!

To the married couples in the house, how much is sufficient to give your wife monthly for feeding. it is just the both of us, no children yet.

Not going to use this as my bench mark, i just want to know what the average is like.
Have a decent communication with ur wife concerning ur feeding, (different formulae for different ppl).
My wife doesn't like d fix amount for feeding so she makes a list n tells me, dear I need 12k to go to d market. Sometimes 15k, sometimes 5k. Etc. So d amount varies from month to month. Some months 30k, some 10k, some 50k....it depends on Wat kind of food or soup or how many visitors we received.

Nice one.
Pls how does d clearance on new cars from the dealer look like? New cars dat don't have custom papers. Is it just a typed paper? Hyundai gave me 'to whom it may concern' on their letter headed paper. Though I haven't encountered Custom officers on d road.

TOTAL RUBBISH LIST!!!
WHEN WILL IT GET INTO THIS OYIBO BRAINS THAT THE ERA OF SLAVERY IS GONE AND BURIED?
THEY JUST HAVE BIAS FOR NIGERIA! OUR YOUTHS GO TO FOREIGN SCHOOLS AND DUST THEIR PROFESSORS WITH HOME-GROWN INTELLIGENCE BY EMERGING OVERALL BEST, SOLVING ACADEMIC PROBLEMS UNSOLVED FOR AGES, GRADUATING IN POSTGRADUATE WITH FIRST CLASS AND DISTINCTIONS. STUDENTS TRAINED IN NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES.
YET THEM GET MOUTH TO TELL US OUR UNIVERSITIES ARE NOT AMONG THE BEST UNIS IN AFRICA AND IN THE 1000 UNIS ON EARTH!!!
TO HE.LL WITH THEIR RANKINGS.

Some years ago, I was a Consultant Engineer to a FG Project at the FCT and other states. Could you believe that the so called Foreign Engineers they brought from Germany, UK, India and China where learning the work from we the Nigerian Engineers?
Then I was even a young Engineer not even COREN-Certified at that time self. Yet those foreigners couldn't know jack more than us that were trained here.
Bro I understand your view but the truth is so many factors are considered in doing this ranking and Nigerian schools come short of many of these factors. I have schooled here and abroad and I can tell you that the difference is just too clear, you can't even compare the two. How many of our schools are I.T compliant? How many have online libraries where one can access peer-reviewed articles and ebooks? What is the Students to professor ratio of our schools? Over there I had all my professors' phone numbers and emails, a Prof has only 48hrs to respond to a student's email.. a Prof calls you by first name (he is not a god to students unlike here in naija). Whatever you don't understand, you can email ur Prof and get clarifications.
Though our schools are ill-equiped doesn't mean Nigerian students are not intelligent nor cannot do well, No! Far from it but the truth is foreign schools are well equipped and made very conducive for learning.

FamilyRe: Help, My Husband Dresses Like An Old Man, I Don't Find Him Sexy. by AlphaT1(m): 8:37pm On Jan 08, 2017
Worriedwife:
This issue has been disturbing me, I had to create a new id to get advice 'anonymously', maybe someone else who has gone through this can help. My husband's dress sense is poor, his shoes look like weapons...pointed mouth with very heavy soles. His colour combination is something else. He is a good-looking young man but dresses like an old man.

It makes me not to find him sexy, even his boxers look like soccer shorts.
Whenever we go out, people look at him like he's my gate man. The other day, we went to visit some family friends and someone there said, we don't look like we came out from the same house.

You know how people can be, news have been going around that I am spending all his money on myself while he goes about tattered. My in-laws are also part of the rumour mongers. I have tried to teach him, but he's not ready to learn. Before the usual didn't you know when you married him questions, I knew. He kept saying I am just a girlfriend and I want to change him. Now I am his wife, he still won't change.

Please, what can I do? Won't it be rude if I throw his old wears away?
We recently moved to PH, I don't know my way around yet. Things look expensive here, where can I shop at a fair rate?
I need practical solutions. Thank you all
This is a simple issue my sister. My wife does my shopping. Most times we go together but whenever I am not chanced she goes alone. She selects my shoes, clothes, boxers etc and I do the payment. We decide on what to wear even before the day comes and if it's an impromptu outing she chooses what I would wear. She has a very good taste and dress sense far above me. Gradually I have learnt and sometimes I choose just what she wud have chosen for me, this even makes her very happy. Jst dont put it to his face arrogantly or rudely. Go shopping with him, select his clothes and tell him how nice they (clothes) wud look on him. Appreciate him creatively, e.g Oh darling dat blue native with red design looks wonderful on you, I luv seen you in it especially with that black loafers (shoes), pls can you wear it tomorrow to church/mosque. Gradually he will completely accept you choosing his clothes. Remember it's a gradual process.
Gudluck.

I don't just buy into this vague calculus theorem of the so called provost to deny this girl her admission. Lecturers are so smart in formulating excuses in cover up of their partiality. Whichever way u solve the equation, this girl deserve a place in the merit list
Very insightful and clear explanation. Thank God for my late dad (an academic) who understood these "matrixes" and guided me well. Most candidates just choose any university without an understanding of its catchment areas. If she had chosen Delsu, UniBen, UniPort or NDU (her catchment areas) she would have had an automatic offer. I wanted to go to Unilag but my dad guided me that my catchment areas were A.B.U, UniJos, KEFFI, Kogi etc so I chose A.B.U (first choice) and UniJos (2nd choice). I got A.B.U's merit list (with a JAMB score of 274). The painful reality is those ones from educationally disadvantaged States that get admission with score of 180 while you with 250 is denied admission.

This nigga is the biggest scam artist of Nigeria. Robbed his people blind, went to jail, gonna fly private J back home, and still get a reception organised by the governor for him. This man's name should be changed to James Robin Ibori
Bros, I am not exonerating him but Ibori is a hero in Delta State any day anytime, in fact if the law pardons him to contest for a position again, he would win with a landslide. He transformed his home town (Oghara) from a slum to a semi-urban ( airtel zonal office, private university, a teaching hospital, Navy town, tarred Streets, electricity etc). He touched almost every community in Delta State. All the roads u see in d state today were done by him. He operated a chop give your broda kind of govt (him d chop give d youth, agberos, market women etc) hence his being loved. He brought d rotational system of governorship amongst the different tribes; He is Urhobo, he anointed Uduaghan (Itsekiri), anointed Okowa (Delta Igbo, which wud never have been possible ordinarily).
