Revelation 10:9-10
9 And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey.
10 And I took the little book out of the angel's hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter.

When we eat food, it is sweet to our mouths but when it gets to our belly and digests using the gastric juices, if we throw it up, we cannot eat it again. But it is that sludge (broken down food) that nourishes our bodies to make us shine physically, after discarding the waste.
You cannot inject egusi soup straight into your bloodstream grin shocked for it cannot be used that way. Neither can you eat digested food or vomit for it will be bitter.

Such is the truth of God's word. God's word is sweet to taste or to say with our mouth (in letters) but when we begin to digest it in our Spirit, it gets broken down to pick out the righteousness of such words which hits us as bitter truth and that is the part that is used to nourish us and is what makes us shine spiritually when we do good works.

When the Word is eaten, the truth hits the belly of the Spirit and it leads to self assessment and to seperation from evil which is often a bitter and tough process but that is why the bible says the Word of God is sharper than any two-edged sword piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit..Hebrews 4:12

A Self-Seeking Spirit (5)

Thursday, 07 November 2013

'A dispute arose among them as to which of them would be greatest.' Luke 9:46

The Bible says: 'Then a dispute arose among them as to which of them would be greatest. And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a little child and set him by Him, and said to them, Whoever receives this little child in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me receives Him who sent Me. For he who is least among you all will be great.' (Luke 9:46-48.) What's at work in this story? A self-seek ing spirit. As long as your motive for serving is to make yourself look good, you'll never enjoy God's approval. And His 'well done' is the only thing that counts. The ability to serve behind the scenes, and do it with joy, comes from the knowledge that ultimately your service will be recognised and rewarded by the only One whose opinion counts.
Why did Jesus feature a child that day? For three reasons:

(1) A child is teachable. When you're finished learning, you're finished! When you can't be told, God will have nothing more to tell you. 'The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge; the ears of the wise seek it out.' (Proverbs 18:15)

(2) A child is trusting. When you promise a child something; they believe you, act on it, and expect it to be so. 'It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.' (Psalm 118:8.)

(3) A child is tender-hearted. 'Finally, all of you...be tender-hearted...' (1 Peter 3:8.) The Holy Spirit is symbolised in Scripture as a gentle dove, so keep your heart tender and receptive to His dealings.

TayoD: Is money evil?
I Timothy 6:10
For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows

TayoD: How much emphasis should be placed on prosperity?
As much emphasis as seen in the Word of God.

TayoD: Are Christians meant to be poor?
I Timothy 6:17
Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment

It will be strange if we have abundant life in Christ and serve a rich God yet still think Christians are meant to be poor. However, riches in God's eyes is totally different from that of man...2 Cor. 8:2; Rev. 3:17-18; Luke 12:20-21

TayoD: Did Jesus and the Disciples led by example in being super poor or super rich?
Philipians 4:11-13
11 Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have.
12 I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.
13 For I can do everything through Christ,[a] who gives me strength

They led by example of being content irrespective of situations.

TayoD: Should properity be taught in our churches in the first place?
THe whole gospel of the Kingdom is to be taught which includes prosperity.

TayoD: Does money make you a better or worse christian?
Depends on your heart. God gives and supplies all our need. Can you handle worldly riches? Or will you become so high minded and scornful once you get a tease of earthly wealth?
Luke 16:10-11
10 If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities. 11 And if you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heaven?

TayoD: Would you rather be rich or poor?
I am rich.

TayoD: How does God make people rich if He wants to?

Colossians 3:23-24
23 Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. 24 Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ

John 15:7
If ye. abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

Matthew 6:33
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

Luke 11:28
But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

There are lots more scriptures showing true riches both in the old and the new testaments.

Religion / Re: Marrying A Divorcee And Divorce Is A Sin. Why Are The Jw's Encouraging It? by Alwaystrue(f): 11:59am On Nov 06, 2013
@OP,
May we receive the grace to live according to the will of God. Grace enables us to do what God loves.

In Malachi, God said He hates divorce and convenant breakers in line with what was written at the beginning...Let No Man put asunder what God has joined together.
There is a mystery in the joining of husband and wife. (Ephesians 5:31-32)

Some laws were given by Moses to the Israelites because of the hardness of their hearts. Hard hearts and Christianity do not go together so Jesus gave us the mind of God again on divorce in Mathew 19:5-11. Infact the disciples felt it was too hard a saying and asked if it is worth it to even marry. It takes denying self to follow Jesus.

Christianity requires real saving and enabling grace and continualy need for the Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Religion / Re: The truth your pastor would not tell you about tithes by Alwaystrue(f): 10:38am On Nov 06, 2013
lastmessenger:
As the original owner the cash pro tithers expect me to tithe and that alone would have reduced the money but i didnt tithe and i made someone happy. my rightous belief and understanding is that the money i give away was not just given to a friend but was given to God and so i have done more than tithing and that is what i personally advocate(cheerful giving anywhere any time be it a church, a person or any rightous cause)
you said something about the fact that people believe that giving tithe is giving to man and giving offering is giving to God.well i have to say that both giving is giving to God but tithing is giving to God in a wrong(my opinion) way because it is forced on you and they do so much manipulation to make sure u feel guilty and pay it(which is very wrong).
The example of giving is found in the book acts where they sold their property and laid it on the apostles feet.Ananais and the wife died not because they didnt give all but because they lied.paul in one of his books(i cant remember which) told the apostles that one the first day of the week that each man should set aside an amount to give based on how he is led(he didnt put guilt in anybody).tithing is a dead law and has been done away with on the day christ ressurrected and let me tell you i have seen tithers having the opposite of the reward just because they put their faith in the wrong thing eg myself until i stopped.

I use to be a faithful tither until a particular day.i was listening to my mentor in the lord.this pastor was the one whose preaching got my faith strong and made me hunger for the word.so he said that he doesnt believe in tithing and i was like 'blasphemy' because he didnt explain it and i have been preaching tithing in Rccg.but because of his impact in my life i decided to find out the truth.so i red my bible and studied tithing, went to internet red the opinion of people and i made my conclusion that tithing is hogwash.i didnt stop tithing because i dont like giving away my money but because i was made to put my faith in the wrong place and thing by telling me that tithing is a prosperity principle. only one thing is needed ie faith in God.

let me tell why it is hard for people to believe that tithing is a hogwash.it means that the Dr David Oyedopo,Pastor Chris(my pastor),Adeboye and all the big names with big churches are telling lies.we see them as examples and how can they tell us lies.we see the miracles and we say how can they tell us something that is not true.you see they may not know that they are teaching the wrong thing.my pastor during one of the financial conventions said that u can give yourself out(with money) of a bonding sin you have been struggling with and people seem to be convinced but i know thats not realy the scripture.you cant move fresh to achieve a spiritual matter.i love my pastor chris and i am not leaving him because he said a few wrong thing

@lastmessenger,
Tithing is not forced on you, neither is any giving. They are all commands of God. Giving to the poor is not forced on you either (I hope you know there are lots of bible passages against people who refuse to give to the poor).
So if you have to wait to be told to tithe or do any giving at all since the bible says it already and you claim 'it is forced' that is only your own understanding. Try not to calculate your giving as 'more than tithe' for you do not believe in it in the first place, it is like you just want to prove you give 'more than tithe'. Do not feel threatened whatever decision you make. God has the final say.

Tithers who understand tithing give tithe, offerings, alms, donations to the needy, care for family as all are giving. If you have no issues with offerings it is hypocrisy to have with tithe. And you can choose not to do either, it is your choice.

What you see as forced and a burden, others see as a blessing and thanking God for what He has already given them. Proof they are blessed for they can even give. And God has even added blessings to obeying this command. So it is a continuous cylce of giving and receiving to give.

Jesus (God in the flesh) said tithing should continue but we should love, have faith and mercy. Jesus did not come to 'save' anyone from any good giving but showed us how to give with the right heart. Paul affirmed tithe and offering in I Cor. 9:13-14. He simply refused to take it because of people questioning him and so no man will make his glorying void.

Please take time to study yourself why the people were asked to keep in store. It was for the poor saints in Jerusalem due to the famine, who were giving their all, and Paul said God is not mocked, He that sows little reaps little and vice versa but give as your purpose in your heart. That part is never quoted because it is nicer to hear 'as you purpose'.

So please give as your purpose, there is no issue. Others can purpose to give their tithe as well. Doing it cheerfully and with the right heart.
Your pastor (or any other) is not the final say on the word of God, you are to go and confirm it with the word as the bereans went to confirm Paul's words with the scripture.
I find it strange that once pastors are mentioned it relates to Bishop Oyedepo or Pastor Adeboye as if they are the only pastors in Nigeria. Yes, whatever they preach should be checked in God's word like a berean.

God did not institute tithe, offering, alms as a gambling tool or a means for a quick buck. It is acknowledging Him in Faith for what He has given like Abel and Abraham did and is received by men for His work. They both had Faith and that is what led to their actions not the other way round.
If you cannot understand that, it is best to stop here as you said.

Religion / Re: What Is The New Covenant, And What Is The Old Covenant? by Alwaystrue(f): 9:58am On Nov 06, 2013
The Old Convenant
Exodus 24:7-8
7 And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the Lord hath said will we do, and be obedient.
8 And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the Lord hath made with you concerning all these words

Under the old convenant, the people promised to do the will of God...Their doing was by human strength which is weak for they could not even will themselves to do good by flesh.

New Convenant
Matthew 26:28
For this is My blood of the new covenant, which [ratifies the agreement and] is being poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
John 14:26
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you

In the New Convenant the Holy Spirit is poured out to all who agree to do and be obedient by BELIEF in Jesus Christ thus agreeing to do God's will but in this case, it is God who works in us both to will and to do of his good pleasure...Phil 2:3; John 7:38; Philipians 4:13; 2 Peter 1:3; Romans 8:3-4; John 12:44
We now have the teacher of the Holy Spirit to guide us in all the truth of God's Word.

Religion / Re: The truth your pastor would not tell you about tithes by Alwaystrue(f): 8:15am On Nov 06, 2013
@lastmessenger,
That is why people need to study their bible more and gain understanding. She received money to pay for a debt, can she give out of the money as a gift to the poor? The money is not even hers. How can she tithe on money given to her to pay her debt, to pay for her school fees? This is common sense. This is not money she worked for, neither is it dash money to do what she wants with it. Let people rightly divide the word and they will not see things as 'burdens'.
It is obvious you do not know that the people here see their giving as giving to man and many ave called their pastors 'thieving' (any pastor who collects tithes). I keep wondering why they never mention offering for offering was also regulated to what is expected even in the OT. If they see giving offering as not wrong but tithe is to man then that means their giving in church is to man. For we give with faith and we give to God but all giving is used by man in this world. Giving to poor too.

Lolz. It is their mouth sha, they will account for it themselves.

God expects people to give of what they have not what they do not have or own.

Jesus came to free us from the shackles of sins penalties, heal us and make us right with God by Faith. It is laughable seeing people say their 100% is God's yet believe Jesus 'saved' them from tithe calling it their idea of part of 'finished work', just so petty thinking.

Jesus is God and the Son of God. He is the only BEGOTTEN of the Father. I think the word 'Begotten' came to be when He was born on earth. Isaiah 9:6; John 10:30; John 14:9; John 1:10-11.

John 1:1-3;14
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.
All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

I Timothy 3:16
And without controversy great is the MYSTERY of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

An Undiscerning Spirit

Wednesday, 06 November 2013

'...and You say, Who touched Me?' Luke 8:45

One day a chronically ill woman who had haemorrhaged for 12 years pushed her way through the crowd and touched the hem of Jesus' garment. And immediately she was healed. '...Jesus said, Who touched Me? When all denied it, Peter and those with him said, Master, the multitudes throng and press You, and You say, 'Who touched Me?' But Jesus said, Somebody touched Me, for I perceived power going out from Me. Now when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before Him, she declared to Him in the presence of all...how she was healed immediately. And He said to her, Daughter, be of good cheer; your faith has made you well. Go in peace.' (Luke 8:45-48)

What's at work in this story? An undiscerning spirit. Observe Peter's words, 'Master, the multitudes throng and press You, and You say, Who touched Me?' Understand this: Jesus can tell the difference between the indiscriminate touch of the crowd, and a touch of faith. Faith draws on His power and brings results! Notice, this woman touched the 'hem' of Jesus' garment. The last thing a dressmaker does when she makes a garment is to sew up the hem. So the hem represents 'the finished work'. The same back that bore the cross which takes away your sins, also bore the stripes which take away your sickness. '...And by His stripes we are healed.' (Isaiah 53:5) What do you need today? Forgiveness of sins? Healing? Reach out in faith and touch Jesus, and you too will be made whole.

A Fearful Spirit (3)

Tuesday, 05 November 2013

'They came to Him...saying, Master, Master, we are perishing!...' Luke 8:24

The Bible says: '...He got into a boat with His disciples. And He said to them, Let us cross over to the other side of the lake. And they launched out. But as they sailed, He fell asleep. And a storm came down...and they...were in jeopardy. And they...awoke Him, saying, Master, Master, we are perishing! Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water... But He said to them, Where is your faith? And they were afraid, and marvelled, saying to one another, Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!' (Luke 8:22-25) Notice what is at work in this story: a fearful spirit. No matter how often God blesses us and answers our prayers, we still give in to fear the next time we face a crisis, especially when it's one we haven't faced before. Who told the disciples to get into the boat in the first place? Jesus. Understand this: faith doesn't exempt you from life's storms; it equips you to go through them. And when you are in the will of God; no storm, however severe, can take you under. Jesus knew the storm was coming before the disciples ever stepped into the boat. So why did He expose them to it? Because He was equipping them for the future, for the day when He'd no longer be around and they would face persecution, imprisonment and even death. So the word for you today is: 'Don't be afraid. The Lord is with you; you are going to make it to the other side.'

@Bidam, Lolz. It is Deuteronomy 20. I will paste just a few scriptures and talk less so you can gain your own revelation.
Deuteronomy 20:1-9
20 When you go to war against your enemies and see horses and chariots and an army greater than yours, do not be afraid of them, because the Lord your God, who brought you up out of Egypt, will be with you. 2 When you are about to go into battle, the priest shall come forward and address the army. 3 He shall say: “Hear, Israel: Today you are going into battle against your enemies. Do not be fainthearted or afraid; do not panic or be terrified by them. 4 For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.”

The only reason why we feel fear is if we go to a place 'alone', or look away from Jesus. 2 Kings 6:17; Matthew 14:27; Ephesians 6:12; I John 4:4;

5 The officers shall say to the army: “Has anyone built a new house and not yet begun to live in it? Let him go home, or he may die in battle and someone else may begin to live in it. 6 Has anyone planted a vineyard and not begun to enjoy it? Let him go home, or he may die in battle and someone else enjoy it. 7 Has anyone become pledged to a woman and not married her? Let him go home, or he may die in battle and someone else marry her.”
Let us make Jesus Christ our Lord indeed. Luke 9:23; Matthew 19:29-30

8 Then the officers shall add, “Is anyone afraid or fainthearted? Let him go home so that his fellow soldiers will not become disheartened too.”
9 When the officers have finished speaking to the army, they shall appoint commanders over it.

Can we allow His grace to make us stand despite all? John 6:66-68; Luke 9:62; Romans 8:35-39

@Ayoku, He that is led of the Spirit is not 'UNDER the law' (let us get proper understanding of what this means truly). However our faith in God upholds the law...The law is however spiritual and so it is not of the letter but of the Spirit as led. When we look at the Word of God, what do we see? Do we just see instructions too burdensome or we see the life of it and the spirit beside. It is one thing to discard a 'letter of a law' it is another to discard the whole 'weight' of it.

Bidam: Beautifully analyzed. It just beats my imagination why we can't be open to learning and pick one or two things from this post. I guess the same pharisiacal attitude of i know it all is still at work even in modern day christianity.

The Holy Spirit was at work in the life of Jesus as a Man on earth. So He rightly interpreted the spirit of the Law and not the letters as some would erroneosly have us believe.
Thanks @Bidam. When people read the bible, let the scripture come alive to them, there is more to the letters and it depends on the heart that receives it.

At creation, the Spirit moved over the waters and then the WORD came...'Let there be light'. People should understand the Spirit and the Word work together. The Spirit was moving before the Word (John 1:1) was spoken....Spirit of the law, righteousness of the law. Knowing the mind of God and enjoying Life in Christ.

Jesus the Word of God was baptised and the Spirit DESCENDED and REMAINED with Him. John 1:33. Jesus was the FULNESS of GRACE, TRUTH and the SPIRIT on earth, in the Flesh! The Holy Spirit came to continue. Anyone who does not know this and spend time to really understand who they 'profess' to believe has not started at all.

Jesus is the Spirit that removes the veil when the OT is read. I read a passage in Deuteronomy yesterday and I will share here what I gained from it.

@swtchicgurl,
I thank God, it is not my power at all but His revelations.

An Impulsive Spirit (2)

Monday, 04 November 2013

'...Peter...not knowing what he said.' Luke 9:33

On the Mount of Transfiguration, '...Peter said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah - not knowing what he said...And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!' (Luke 9:33-35) Another spirit Jesus identified among His disciples was: an impulsive spirit. Note the words, 'not knowing what he said.' Peter's penchant for saying whatever came into his mind drew a strong rebuke from Heaven: 'This is My beloved Son - hear Him!' There's an important lesson here. Your need to appear wise and have all the answers can get you into trouble with people - and God! Generally speaking, you're not learning while you're talking. So learn to be quiet, observe what's going on, and listen for what God may want to say. When you don't know, don't speak. People respect you when you have the wisdom and humility to say, 'I'm not sure, but if you give me time I'll pray about it, consider it more fully and get back to you.' Experts say the average person is now bombarded with 3500 messages a day: emails, text messages, billboards, television, radio, Twitter, Facebook, blogs, etc. It's 'information overload'. People don't need more information; they need answers that work! And God has those answers. So talk to Him first, then you'll have something to say to others that's worth listening to. 'Everyone enjoys a fitting reply; it is wonderful to say the right thing at the right time!' (Proverbs15:23)

Thank God for you dear.

It is ok. Let us always ensure we act right to do Jesus proud whether church member or minister so the ministry is not blamed. And when you know you are right, let them say....

damilarelr:

We will do another teaching on that topic of who a believer or born-again is, but can you explain this: Jesus said He who deny Him in this world He will deny such before His Father in heaven...but yet, Peter denied Christ, not once but good three times...do you think Christ will still deny him on the last day?

Lolz. You guys do not amaze me at all.
1. First and foremost, did Jesus not tell Peter he would deny Him?
2. Did Peter not go out and weep bitterly after as a sign of godly sorrow as soon as He realised it? Did Judas do same?
3. Did you read where Jesus said sins against Him will be forgiven especially when godly sorrow is involved as this case?
4. Do you remember where Jesus said He had prayed specifically for Peter so the devil will not sift Him as wheat?

Look at yourselves very well and see who is denying Jesus today unrepentantly for that matter. You deny the words of Jesus by saying they do not apply to you?
Jesus words that are Spirit and life full of grace and truth is what you guys think mean law of Moses?

Do you even know what Spirit of the law means...the law of the Spirit. The Holy Spirit will never lead you contrary to the Word of God...The Holy Spirit sent as another comforter to continue when Jesus left. Holy Spirit has laws too, till you understand this, you will keep thinking grace means raise your legs and sleep on a couch Christian.
If you cannot even understand Jesus you think you understand Paul? Do you even know what grace means? Have you really studied Paul words to really understand His preaching? I hope you know He was a minister of the gospel preaching Christ just like we have ministers of the gospel today and he quoted the same Moses that you claim is a mixture of grace and law but he gave the Spirit of it. Have you got your own revelation of Jesus or you dwell on Paul's revelations in his letters as the entirety of your 'spirit'?
Like I told you, let the Holy Spirit reveal the word to you personally and these your questions will reduce.
If your faith does not uphold the law then check that faith well.

@Twinsgirls, my darling. As we feed our body, we need to feed our soul much more o. That is why both go hand in hand. wink. If the Spirit is weak how will the body function well? So as we labour for physical food, let us labour much more for spiritual.

I Timothy 4:8
Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come

John 6:27
But don't be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man can give you. For God the Father has given me the seal of his approval

Proverbs 17:22
A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones

Amen to your prayers and I know God will do much more than we have asked or imagined.

cheesy when people do not even understand how love is fulfilled in sabath and what it really means, they will keep asking questions, it is no wonder the veil still remains on their eyes. Yet the truth is staring them right in the face.
Like I said people still do not understand what Grace and Truth means yet they claim to believe in Jesus....and do not keep and do not understand His words.
