In this 2010 political campaign in Orlu, Rochas Okorocha pretended to be angry that if not this IMSUTH established by former governor of Imo state in Orlu, previous govts of Imo state denied Orlu development projects.

People in Orlu massively voted for Okorocha. when he became governor, it turned out that he was harbouring an old deep grudge against anything Orlu.

He started with dismantling the roofs of a sports stadium in Orlu dedicated to late Sam Okwaraji; the stadium was built by former governor of Imo state from Orlu. Okorocha could not build another stadium till today. Instead, in the state capital, he built many stadium-like arenas.

Since 2012, Okorocha abandoned the 1km main road to IMSUTH to decay - till today, he began owing salary to health workers to make them leave IMSUTh, denied diesel to IMSUTH generators; refused to facilitate accreditation of some medical courses, students spend many years more in the institution; all prayers before Okorocha to repay the 1 km road fell on deaf ears, while he builds 8 lane streets, in flyovers and tunnels in the state capital.
Last October, Okorocha set up a kangaroo committee headed by the Speaker of Imo House of Assembly to check the possibility of transferring IMSUTH to Owerri.

He further explained that the town through her illustrious sons has contributed their enormous philanthropic quotas in checkmating the disaster and reducing its adverse effects, but it has escalated to an unbearable level that the town had to start crying out louder to the Government. He therefore, called on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency at the Erosion site, to save the area from further degradation.


In his speech, Rt Hon Ben Nwankwo, represented by his legislative Aides, gave the assurance that he will unleash all weapons in his  arsenal to ensure that a motion for urgent intervention is raised on the floor of the house as quick as possible, get the powers that be and persuade the relevant agencies into swift action to contain the menace.

In his remarks, the community youth leader, Comr Onyebuchi ikeakor commended the Rt. Hon for his commitment in ensuring that the pressing needs of the people are given proper attention and also extolled the legislative focus of the Messenger that has him making loud and obvious impacts in the legislative Arm of Government, despite just reclaiming the people mandate only last three months, after a protracted legal tussle.
