EducationRe: My Undergraduate Friend is Depressed About Her CGPA by AmakaG29(f): 5:19am On Apr 10, 2012
School is challenging, thankless, and takes true dedication. She needs to first speak to her academic advisor, then her class dean, then a counselor who can handle the emotional stress this must be causing her. Talking to her family must happen as soon as possible, but speaking to advisors first may help her navigate the situation. Before she talks to her parents, she should have a solid plan of how to improve her grades and graduate.

Most schools have counseling, tutoring services, and other study help materials. To be honest, it sounds like she picked the wrong major. Did she pick something she was interested in or was she pressured into something she doesn't like? Damage control may involve retaking failed classes, taking easier courses like languages, asking for extensions on assignments, and speaking to professor directly. A private tutor may be necessary.

I know every school is different, so my comments can be taken as seriously as they are relevant to your friend.

RomanceRe: Why American Women Avoid Nigerian Men by AmakaG29(f): 8:29pm On Apr 09, 2012
Oh guys, leave her be. Everyone knows that beautiful women only ever have beautiful things to say. There is no need to return her hate and ignorance with hate and ignorance. Calm the child's play. My sensibilities can't tolerate the misogyny.
FashionRe: Pls Help Seriously by AmakaG29(f): 8:21pm On Apr 09, 2012
First, I am not a dermatologist.

If you are fairly sure that the bumps are the result of the cream rather than a change in diet or laundry products then discontinue use. There may be some chemical in the product that is causing your breakout. I typically use coconut oil or scented shea butter rather than creams with a lot of chemicals.

The best route would be to evaluate your skin care needs: moisture? wrinkle reduction? stretch mark reduction? achieving an even skin tone? Then find products that have those results with minimal chemicals. The lighter the better, because heavy products clog pores and cause break outs. Increasing water intake will also help to clear up bumps and decrease the need for creams.

FamilyRe: How & Why Do Siblings Fall Apart? by AmakaG29(f): 7:54pm On Apr 09, 2012
Siblings are two separate human beings with different tastes, preferences, and personalities. If the personalities and preferences conflict, then they may not get along well. As children, they will be forced to live together relatively peacefully because of parental supervision. As adults, they will be freer to express their dislike and to avoid each other or fight.

I love my siblings dearly and as children we fought over things all the time, but not over personalities. Scarcity in resources often produces violence and hostility whether the resource is love, attention, money, or property. Other family members may prove to be good mediators, but counseling may also be in order.
RomanceRe: I Love My Husband But He Is Not Romantic by AmakaG29(f): 9:57pm On Apr 05, 2012
A. Try speaking up about your needs
B. Try demonstrating or being more aggressive
C. Try lessening the frequency until there is an increase in intimacy
D. If you don't have a religious objection, find "movies" to watch together and learn from
E. Seek marital counseling (certainly not my first choice)
RomanceRe: Is It Fair To Discard A Date If You Don't Like His Friends? by AmakaG29(f): 9:46pm On Apr 05, 2012
I think it is reasonable, because at the bare minimum it means the person has poor taste or bad judgment. I try to surround myself with positive, intelligent, engaging people. Even beyond dating, the company one keeps could ruin other opportunities. Yes, I will judge him by his merits, but his merits include the people he respects and appreciates. It is fair to take the people in a potential lover's life into account when determining how to spend your time.

Also, those same friends will probably attempt to undermine the relationship and cause trouble. I don't do drama.
FashionRe: Fashion Whys ? by AmakaG29(f): 9:23pm On Apr 05, 2012
Why do some people who can afford it wear clothing that is too big/too small for their frame?

Why do some women wear leggings as pants?

Why do some men wear too much cologne?

Why do some women completely pluck their eyebrows, then draw new ones?

Why wear a weave that looks like it was never meant to be on a human head?

Why do some men wear capris?

So many whys, so little time. . .

RomanceRe: Ladies Would You Marry A 'reformed Player'? by AmakaG29(f): 2:45pm On Apr 04, 2012
Well I think two reformed players deserve each other. If she was a player too, then she would know if he was trying to play her. People do mature and change, but I haven't seen it in my days. Once a player has held true from my experience. . .

Me personally? No
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Would Be Better If? by AmakaG29(f): 2:41pm On Apr 04, 2012
More money, less wealth disparity, more education, more ethics in business and law, more subscription to the true values of religion: peace, love, charity.., responsive government, better infrastructure, better management of resources, less infidelity in marriages, better health services, the end of all forms of tribalism and religious intolerance (one nation). . .

I will say that all countries would benefit from these measures

FamilyRe: Is It HygienicTo Eat Breakfast Before Brushing Your Teeth? by AmakaG29(f): 2:25pm On Apr 04, 2012
I prefer rinsing my mouth when I wake up, eating, then brushing.

It makes my breath smell good before leaving the house, it gets rid of food in my teeth after eating, and toothpaste makes food taste funny.

RomanceRe: Is It A Good Thing To Double Date? by AmakaG29(f): 4:05pm On Apr 03, 2012
First, cheating is wrong.

Second, dating is not marriage.

Third, if both parties are open, honest, and reasonable then perhaps dating multiple people is acceptable. It's about the boundaries that the parties involved set on their relationship. Personally, I don't do it nor do I condone it. However, if mature adults decide that they don't want to be exclusive yet, then best of luck to them.

Dating multiple people does not have to mean sleeping with multiple people nor lying to multiple people. If the activities suggested are honestly conveyed and all parties agree, then proceed with caution. Hearts may still be broken.

Young people often times get into serious, exclusive relationships with people they don't know very well and don't have a really responsibility to. Maybe having friends who you spend time with and get to know could replace this idea of "double dating." What is the difference between a boyfriend and a good guy friend if intimate contact is not involved?
TravelRe: A Thread For Travel Enthusiasts! by AmakaG29(f): 3:39pm On Apr 03, 2012
I did 4 nights in Jamaica. It was amazing. I stayed in Negril, because I found it to be less of a tourist trap than Montego Bay. The water was clear, beautiful, and relaxing. The sun was very welcome after the NY winter. I did get sunburn but it wasn't bad (yes, black people can get sunburn). One of the highlights was the sunsets off the cliffs.

I loved the local food, but if you go to a tourist restaurant, they give you a tourist version. The cheaper the food, the better it tasted. I went to the little local eateries off the beaten path.

Took a day trip out to a Rasta community in the mountains. Swam in a cool river and ate fresh fish cooked out on the open flames. Green grass, blue skies, and fresh air made the journey worth it.

The night scene was popping at this club called The Jungle. It was a mixed crowd of locals and visitors with mixed music and mixed drinks!

Songs I was jamming to: Chris Martin-Cheaters Prayer, Cecile- When you're gone, Popcaan-Party shot, Laza Morgan- One by one. . .(Just to name a few)

All in all it was a beautiful, relaxing trip and I'm looking for the next

Places I've been: France, Switzerland, Senegal, Jamaica

Places I want to go: South Africa, Morocco, India, Trinidad

If you have any recommendations for places I should visit, I like traveling!

FashionRe: Define Style In Your Own Words by AmakaG29(f): 3:14pm On Apr 03, 2012
Style is a discerning eye for flattering pieces that will complement the wearer. The stylist knows how to assemble these pieces in a way that creates harmony. Style generates a tinge of envy or awe from people who recognize it.
