lovelybugs: Omo. Anyways I think hypocrisy isn't only a Nigerian thing. It's generally something humans do.
As for the difference in our behavior when in vs when out of the country, this is due to the lawlessness of Nigerian..
Humans generally behave like animals when there is no law and order. Remove that from the so called develop countries and watch everything burn to ashes.
When you know there are no consequences for you action you can behave anyhow. I recall an uncle saying that anytime he gets to Nigeria he has to unlock madness to be able to drive on the roads then re-lock it when he’s leaving. I find that the issue here isn’t really of human nature, but the Nigerian mentality. You kind of point to this when you say ‘lawlessness of Nigeria’. But I don’t believe we need some leviathan all controlling state to fix that. Relating it back to hypocrisy, well, unless we appreciate that our mentality collectively has been a catalyst for where we are today, then we will continue to deceive ourselves whilst criticising the rulership. |

JoeEeL: I like the vibes u emit for a Naija girl. Its not like Nigerian girls do not like Burna boy per se, it's just that they often tend to not really esteem him much, maybe because he kinda lacks that soft and gentle attraction, or maybe aura, to ladies like the way a typical Davido, Kizz Daniel or Wizzy wields.
Its well jare, u get mouth. And teach me how u were able to create that 'love' icon. Do u copy and paste it? I do copy and paste from a site called emojipedia.com. It works for other sites I comment on like 'Youtube' for example. But on Nairaland, it shows some weird symbols. Not sure why. Thank you The more I think of it, the more I realise that he’s generally not as popular as the others. Strange. Oh really? What type of emojis are those? Are they any different from the set you have on the keyboard? The ❤️ just works you know. Like a normal WhatsApp message. I’m going to do a bit more of trial and error and see what else can be typed directly from the keyboard into NL. |

complexBoss12: I understand your position, not petitioning the person means for me, that you believe this individual knows what to do and will eventually do the right. but you and I know that if you let the matter slide, GBA will play to public sympathy, while doing nothing for the family.
secondly, on money. how else do you suggest they be compensated?? money is not all, but it's the only option (emphasis on only). The man is a breadwinner for people, so those people have to be taken care of. complexBoss12: Definitely mks sense to me, I get your position. But I w'll say this, in saner climes you don't request for money bc the person knows what to do, but in Nigeria, Gbajabiamila will play to gallary and leave the family with nothing. secondly is there any other compensation you can suggest but money?? the deceased is a bread winner, so the people he cares for will need to eat, shelter, school, clothes etc. So in essence, brothers, this is somewhat a defence mechanism that the family has to take to ensure they are not cheated because the system is designed to undercut them, and GBA will take almost certainly take advantage of that? |

complexBoss12: I had to consult my dictionary to see if there is a new meaning to magnanimity. For you eh, when your security operative kills a man, while on duty, howbeit unjustly, and you reach out to the family, then you are being generous abi?? that's slave mentality bro!! its a responsibility/an obligation, not a favour.
Even when plane crash happens, the airline pays victims families huge sums of money. It's not out of order to ask for money from him, because the security man is his responsibility and there is no other way he can compensate them. abi he give them another son and father??
I will ignore your second paragraph, because if I want to address it, I go chop ban. Nonsense and gbajabiamila! I’m in 2 minds. What I consider is that when people are killed due to negligence, error malpractice etc., You don’t hear families of the deceased petitioning for a pay out, but for an enquiry. The payout is done hush hush and somewhat automatically. And when a civilian is murdered/shot, likewise, you hear the families seeking justice, not money. Settlements are often done off record and out of public domain where possible. Perhaps the issue is they shouldn’t even need to ask and have felt sidelined/belittled, or maybe even insulted by the original offer which is quite shameful on GBA’s side. He should know the appropriate measures to take. On the other hand you wonder, is money the answer to grief? Does a recently bereaved person immediate take up a fight for money? Feels a bit uncouth. It’s already public knowledge so what’s in it for GBA to pay? Not like they will sign any disclosure to prevent his image from tarnishing. And if it’s a case for the FGN, then payouts definitely won’t make a difference. Just unsure |

sunboy: Bro, Grammy is just an award but arguably the greatest music award. For that, winning is no big deal, nomination is enough recognition.
There’s an Afro beat band on that same list who have been single Fela style of song and they are based in NY, and there are white and black in their band.
Anyways, my point being that. I don’t care if he wins or not, being nominated twice back to back for your own work is enough for him.
The likes of Femi who’s been nominated Atleast 4-5 times but never won any... Burna have proven to be one of the best artist out of Naija, no my baby my baby, pangolo song.
And this will humble naija artist to work harder cos Burna has raised that bar twice. They have to do catching up and still singing my baby my baby, or para fans whatever.
I’m hoping to see Brymo on the world scene too, Asa too, and maybe Simi. The rest are just making noice with no substance. ‘my baby my baby’. Yes yes I agree with you really, but it’s one thing to be one of many to be nominated, and one of much fewer to win. I’m not saying explicitly that these gatekeepers look at race, but they do look at the culture. Let’s be real, Cardi B won a grammy - trendy. Childish Gambino - trendy. Lizzo - trendy. You cannot tell me as a somebody who understands music, as I sense you do, that any of these artists are in your top 3 rankings for their own respective genres. But Burna’s music has depth, identity and longevity. As in timeless longevity. The type that u tell people to shotop when your fav song still comes on how many years later. He’s a virtuoso in his own genre. So we cannot be settling for ‘nominations nominations’ and think that’s good enough, because some all white board of white men ‘feel like’ our artists haven’t exceeded the target. Which target again. That Fela was nominated severally without winning is telling us something, I think. They have a pattern of behaviour. My guy, just let him not win. Hm. Everywhere go scatter finish. Sorry. |

sunboy: Naija mentality.
Some people on that same list have been nominated more than 5 times, and some already won the award in the past. So calm down. You may be right about my 9ja mentality. But have you considered the market of those peers? Angelique Kidjo sells out concerts across the globe with majority white audiences. Burna does not. You cannot ignore the white bias that there is to the perception of African music. They are the gatekeepers at the end of the day and believe it or not, they love ‘pop’. Or you don’t remember when even African Americans were pushing #boycottgrammys? Sorry no calming down |

Adakintroy: #. Since the civil war, we not had another strive over fourty yrs despite our diversities. Don't take it for granted.
#2. We've had democracy going now for the past two decades. At one point no one thought we could sustainable n democracy of two terms without the military intervening. it was not your protest that brought it. It just came through the same military that we call vile. That means their are good thinking people in there thinking on our behalf. Who want the system to work right as much as we do.
#3. We are the fastest growing economy in Africa still. Now am not comparing us to Europe or America. That's outside our range and won't be a honest neither a fair comparison. Compared to other Africans. We are either first or second..that's not a bad position to be.
And did I mention how decent our health institutions faired handling both the Ebola and corona virus. It praise worthy. .that's why I said talk is cheap. Honor people when they do well. It's takes a lot of complex planning to make this things work.
This generation of youth have to pay homage to the ones struggling to keep it together and help honestly.
. I disagree 1. We have had many racial tensions/uprisals, albeit not wars, but the Fulani herdsmen massacres are a prime example of that. 2. This country was established as a democracy under Queen Elizabeth II. Any deviation from that was illegal and unconstitutional. The fact you suggest that we should celebrate working within the remit of our law is quite frightening. 3. Fastest growing economy in Africa, but the margin is unknown. A margin of 0.000000011 percent for example ought not to be boasted about. Who says that the colonial master puppet didn’t fabricate this analysis, it’s not as if politics is a clean game. (4.) Ebola and corona virus are temporal in the grand scheme of outbreak and effect. One day they will be both be yesterday’s news. However, Tuberculosis, Cholera, Meningitis, Polio and MANY more sicknesses have been completely ERADICATED in other parts of the world. Yet, properly government managed and funded systematic treatment, not to talk of prevention is IMPOSSICANT for the common man in 9Ja. If an exam paper is out of 100, 3/100 would not even be graded, it will be marked as UNCLASSIFIED. We cannot be seeing minimum levels of survival as something to praise government for. We may as well repatriate to the jungle. What are they being paid billions for if in the end we ought to ‘manage’ |

Adakintroy: Truth is that we have been doing ok for our size.
Could we have done more. Yes. But we are not doing badly. Just being able to mentain peace is a stable form of advancement.
Not many nation's have this much diversities and terrorism challenges we have going.
We just saw the great American, how deeply divided they are irrespective of what their media display..we just saw how racist their own police can be, how flawed their electoral system is. How weak there health system can be. How unstable their politics can be. We all saw it. But we also saw how resilient they can be and how forward thinking they are.
We are not going to get everything right. But let's learn to celebrate our positives. Celebrate leaders when they do well and condenm them when they do poor. Talk is cheap and it's easy to criticize.
No one is going to defend your country for you. It's up to us to take a stand.
In my view, The youth have no business critizing their fathers without first postrating.
They may be bad, but if we are honest with ourselves we have shown potential that we can be worst. Honor your father's.
Criticize them only after you have greeted them. either way we look at it Life is hard.not Nigeria. Sigh. What are just 3 distinct positives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria please? |

africantycoon: Business is not free..... if Nigeria's resources has no buyer then the resources are useless.... UK is in Nigeria to buy resources at the best prices for their interests..... Nigeria should sell resources to the highest bidder..... so it's all business. I’ve seen that you’ve repeated this point on several comments, that Nigeria has a ‘benefit’. But let’s keep it real. British citizens have an active influence on British politics and penultimately, their economy. Nigerians don’t. Nigerians don’t because the idea of Nigeria was never built on the aspiration of any margin of African excellence. So why on Earth, should we Nigerians sympathise with our colonial masters of yesterday for not only creating a bloody mess but then still coming back to chew the bone? Then telling us after spitting the bone on our laps that we should just manage because out of all the shitholes, our shithole smells the nicest. Insult. |

You see this is the issue of the English language. It is used to mystify and confuse the recipient and conceal deeper meanings.
Fastest growing could mean being ahead by an average 0.0000021 percent - even at a steady state of decline (recession).
But 40% of Nigerians live in ABJECT poverty, so this statement is literally just to tell everybody that no matter what you see, don’t expect the UK to lose interest in business pursuits and interests with Nigeria anytime soon. |

Christianity Etc › Re: Prophet Israel Oladele Ogundipe Jailed For Defrauding A Woman by Amarisco(f): 3:28am On Nov 19, 2020 |
The article was written 9 years ago , why the long gap before prosecution? uruba23: A LONDON-BASED architect and principal witness, Mrs. Oladele Williams-Oni, yesterday told an Ikeja High Court how she was allegedly defrauded of over N17 million by the Shepherd-in-Charge of the Celestial Church of Christ, Genesis Parish, Alagbado, Lagos and popular tele-evangelist, Prophet Israel Ola-Ogundipe.
Oni alleged that after defrauding her, Ola-Ogundipe also attempted to blackmail her into forfeiting all her landed property in his custody.
The witness said she first met the accused person in 2002 during her visit to Nigeria when she was taken to his church for prayers by her half-sister, Mrs. Ogungbemi.
'He told me something about my husband in one of his prophecies that I should not have anything jointly with him because he was having an affair behind me. He gave me a liquid to drink and I started vomiting. I was asked to sit down and he lit a candle and said I should be there until the candle-light goes off', she said.
Williams-Oni also alleged that she was later taken by the prophet in company of her half-sister and cousin to a bush in Sango Ota area of Ogun State where she was bathed with some concoction.
She told the court, presided over by Justice Olabisi Akinlade, that she entrusted the accused person with her money to procure some landed property on her behalf because she thought he was a 'good pastor'.
According to Williams-Oni, on her return to London, Ola-Ogundipe called her and advised her to invest in landed property in Lagos, an advice she heeded after consultation with some persons.
Williams-Oni said she sent money to Ola-Ogundipe in five installments of N900,000, N2.5 million, N8.5 million, N2.7 million and 12,000 pound sterling between 2002 and 2005 to purchase the property on her behalf.
She alleged that after collecting the money, the prophet converted some of the said property for his personal use and refused to refund the money for the others.
'When I confronted him about this, he started threatening my life and blackmailing me. He was saying that I had a son for him, which became an embarrassment to my family', she claimed.
Williams-Oni told the court that the issue nearly ruined her 16-year-old marriage, adding that it was only resolved when the said child was made to under-go a paternity test, which refuted his claims.
This, according to Williams-Oni, made her write a petition to the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) Unit of the Lagos State Police Command, before the case was transferred to the Special Fraud Unit (SFU) of the command. culled from https://m.thenigerianvoice.com/news/49308/cleric-defrauded-me-of-n17m-woman-tells-court.html |
