2023: Egba Baales Endorse Segun Sowunmi Ahead Of Governorship Primaries

The Baales in Egbaland, Ogun State, have thrown their weights behind the governorship ambition of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirant, Segun Sowunmi.

They took the decision through a voice vote after Sowunmi addressed them during a consultation meeting in Abeokuta over his gubernatorial bid.

The Baales said Sowunmi understands their challenges and he demonstrated his readiness to address if elected governor.

The Baales were drawn Obafemi Owode, Abeokuta South, Abeokuta North, Odeda, Ifo, Ewekoro, all Local Government Areas in Ogun Central Senatorial district.


The President of Ogun State Council of Baales, Tunji Falola, in a voice vote, asked the Egba Baales, “Are you all in support of Sowunmi’s ambition for the governor of Ogun State?”, to which they responded in affirmative.

Falola who is also the chairman of the Baales in Egbaland, applauded Sowunmi, also an Egba son, for his development blueprint especially as if affects the traditional chiefs.

He said “We need to look for a capable leader, leader with integrity, who is able, can do it and do it well. There have leaders and leaders but where are they today? I am happy that Sowunmi is meeting us Baale for the first time now. A thousand and one others are still coming, I am sure of that.


“But do they realize that Baales are at the grassroots and that they can call their people are say ‘this is where we are going and their people would agree’. He Baales are not in contention with the monarchs and should be allowed to perform their roles to drive the security and development at the grassroots.

He said “I am particularly concern that we have not been able to find an administrative structure to accommodate Baales and take advantage of the closest they are to the people and the proximity to the land and it has cost us gravely.


“Part of the reasons we have not been able to secure our fringes is because we have not given any responsibility to our Baales. It is time now to create a framework where the Baales will have bigger roles according to the procedures of the service in such a way that we know that these are the responsibilities that they have and the wherewithal we have given them to be able to carry out the duties.

“If we must be secured, if we must develop evenly, if we must be prosperous, then we must figure out how to devolve more powers to the Baales.”

In her Key Note address on “The Role of Women in Politics, Peace and Tranquility” the National Coordinator of women for SWAGA’23 Mrs Ayo Omidiran Re-emphasized the importance of women in politics, their role as mothers and their usefulness in mobilizing others for common good and purposes. She however lamented that despite the zeal of women and their enthusiasm for political involvement, not many women are currently involved in positions of authorities especially Executive and Legislative arms of Government even though efforts have started at party levels but there are lots more to be done in getting women elected into positions rather than making them second fiddles. This she said will improve the Nation’s peace, stability and tranquility.

The Governor of Lagos State Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu who was represented at the occasion by Commissioner of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Hon. Cecilia Bolaji Dada. An aspirant for the Ife Federal House of Reps in the 2023 election, Hon. Rotimi Makinde on Saturday has commended the dispute resolution mechanisms of All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains, Chief Bisi Akande and Chief Olusegun Osoba on the protracted acrimony among the South West presidential aspirants of the party, describing it as laudable.

Makinde further referred to Chief Akande and Osoba as true elder statesmen who put everything on the line to ensure that unity exists among the party big wigs including Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and others who are jostling for the party’s presidential flag.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun released the sum of N500m for the payment of gratuity for the remaining Pensioners from the backlog of the first quarter of the year 2022 for both State and Local Government Pensioners.
Governor Abiodun in fulfillment of his promise to cater for the senior citizens who served the State diligently said it is important to see to their welfare and wellbeing.

The Permanent Secretary, Bureau of State Pensions, Mr. Olukunle Sodeinde made this known in his office at Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta, stating that the present administration would continue to honour and respect the senior citizens.

As our great party, the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) prepares for another round of general election in 2023, all loyal party members need to carefully remain strong, firm, patriotic, committed and united so that our success will not only be achieved but consolidated and sustained.

Today as we can all see our party has redoubled its effort in promoting internal democracy and equal opportunities among our members, a unique and cherished development that has largely become one of the indices making the opposition parties envious of our party due to our strong moral rectitude, transparency, and excellent spirit of inclusiveness.

However, as pillars of democracy in Nigeria we must not renege in collectively girding our loins; we must note also that it won't do anybody or the party any good, when we condescend so low and resort to backstabbing, mudslinging, and name-calling in both traditional or social media platforms. As core progressives we must learn how to resolve our differences without endangering our personal relationships and the fate, interest and growth of APC.




Although it is not unexpected that when political parties prepare for any election, the processes through which candidates emerge often appear tough and rough, which is not peculiar to Nigeria alone, it is a global phenomenon, even advanced icons of modern democracy are also not exempted, including United States, England, Canada etc, notwithstanding our loyalty at a time like this must never be compromised.

APC must also not lose sight of its overall interest which is to passionately promote unity and avoid sentiments that are capable of causing disaffection and disunity among us. Therefore it is important for us to manage with wisdom the high-level strategic lobbying by ambitious members, especially those touted to be close allies of President Muhammadu Buhari and with the strong desire to succeed him as Nigeria’s next President.

Permit me to say again that for those aspiring for public offices, our failure to realize such aspirations to fly the party’s flag, should not be a basis for a campaign of calumny against the party or our perceived rivals within the folk. We should endeavor to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship and always support the party to succeed no matter what, in order to defeat the common enemy which is the opposition party.

Impressively, we have eminent Nigerians like Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Governor Kayode Fayemi, Governor Dave Umahi, Governor Yahaya Bello, Chief Rotimi Amaechi, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Senator Chris Ngige and the list goes on.

Their greatest assets in this race is their seeming good standing with voters across the country and their intimidating credentials and track records, at least from the findings of the polls conducted so far and their popularity on social media where they seem to connect with young Nigerians across the 6 geo-political zones.

Indeed all Nigerians of voting age clearly understand that all APC presidential aspirants are round pegs for the round holes of Nigeria. And with any of them as our party standard bearer in less than two years after electoral victory, Nigerians would undoubtedly see the effects of APC governance.

For the price we owe posterity, I must equally add here that Governor Fayemi is not a small fry in South West politics or can we possibly overlook the influence of Senator Amosun in Ogun State, their influences and strengths can never be wished away and I strongly salute their party loyalty since inception.

However, it is an open secret that of all the presidential aspirants, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu appears to be a leading contestant that understands the terrain very well who deeply holds all the aces.

Meanwhile, we his supporters would do ourselves and our principal well if we remain mindful of the manner we go about with our campaigns and support strategies. Should Asiwaju Tinubu eventually become the candidate of our party, he certainly can not do it alone. He would need the overwhelming surport of the above listed party leaders and their structures. We surely need to be guided and stick to the rules of decency and propriety, victory is our ultimate goal and we must not be distracted under any guise.

However, have anyone looked at the INEC bye-elections results in the last 18 months? APC is constantly winning elections because the people know our party is on course in delivering dividends of democracy with zero tolerance for failure. PDP is our main challenger no doubt, but we shall continue win them. They have always been challenging us but the democratic and legitimate magic wand is always with us.

My joy once more is that our people have remained steadfast, resilient and determined to see the Nigeria of our dreams, and APC led government has remained steadfast also, determined, committed and focused to stay on course no matter the antics of the fifth columnists and hatchet men. As we speak goodluck is profoundly on our side as a ruling party, therefore we really need to be circumspect by ensuring that our party primary is conducted in manner that will acceptable to all stakeholders and making us stronger to achieve victory beyond 2023 and not disintegrate us.

Governor Abiodun signed the $400m Memorandum of Understanding with the foreign firm, Arise Integrated Industrial Platform, on the development of Olokola Free Trade Zone and Remo Agro Processing Zone.

The state governor, Dapo Abiodun, and the Founder/Chief Executive Officer, Arise Integrated Industrial Platform, Gagan Gupta, signed the MoU on Friday, at the Exco Chambers of the Governor’s Office, Abeokuta.

Speaking shortly after the signing ceremony, Gupta disclosed that his organisation would focus on the development of Olokola Free Trade Zone and the Remo Agro Processing Zone.

He explained that the $400m investment would be for the completion of phase one of the projects, saying by July 2023, the investment would be scaled up subsequently for other phases of the project.

According to him, Gupta organisation will focus on developing the infrastructure at the Olokola Free Trade Zone as well as the Remo Cluster Area and the Agro Cargo Airport in order to enhance value linkages in the agro-processing area.

Gupta who also noted that the intention of the group was to ensure that work starts on the industrial zone by the first week of July this year, added that the group would also focus more on the upstream sector.

The Arise Integrated founder added that his company would bring substantial equity but would encourage local investors participation saying “we would be glad to have Ogun State as a partner.”

Sofela further enjoined the good people of Ogun State to vote Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun to complete his eight years of transformation come 2023. The leading senatorial aspirant of Ogun central district, Hon Adebola Emmanuel Sofela on Thursday commended Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun on his efforts to complete transportation projects.

Sofela praised the governor for also expanding transportation business in Ogun state.

According to him, the completion of the bus projects would ensure a substantial reduction in grid locks and cost of living across the state.

Sofela while speaking with newsmen over the weekend, said the governor deserved commendation just as he expressed optimism that the bus projects would be completed by the administration.








“Traffic has become something else and people complain always. The projects are, thus, aimed at relieving people of the harrowing experiences they face on the roads.

"Particularly on this issue of transportation to improve quality of life and well being , reduce commuting time and enhance ease of consummating economic activities"

This is what our people deserve and we are encouraging the governor to do more, particularly on this transportation issue to bring dividends to the grassroots.

“It is only a responsible government that would ensure that such wasted hours are reduced to the nearest minimum,” he said.

Adebola Sofela is a seasoned professional with a wealth of experience in financial services. He graduated with a B.Sc. (Hons) in Accounting in 1986/87 from the University of Ilorin and got an MBA in Finance from the University of Lagos in 1996. He qualified as a Chartered Banker in 1988, a Chartered Accountant in 1989, and a Chartered Stock Broker in 2011. Adebola has completed courses at the prestigious Harvard Business School, Wharton Business School and INSEAD. He is a fellow of the reputable Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Stock Brokers. Adebola’s career is filled with 32 years of post-graduate experience that spans banking, financial services, and telecommunications. In addition, he has varied experience in the following areas: domestic and treasury operations, financial planning and control, internal audit, treasury services, corporate and project finance, investment banking, risk management, regulatory compliance and tax planning, and regional banking business and

relationship management. His regional banking experience includes the retail, commercial, corporate and public sector.

Sofela Commends Governor Abiodun Over Grant Disbursement, Empowerment Materials To Ogun Women

.......Says Governor Abiodun Deserves Another Term




The leading senatorial aspirant in Ogun Central district under All Progressives Congress, Hon Adebola Emmanuel Sofela has commended the Ogun state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for disbursing livelihood grants, materials to women in the state.


This was contain in a statement personally signed by him and made available to newsmen through his media office in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Recall that the State governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Friday, officially flagged off women empowerment scheme with disbursement of individual livelihood grants to 2,094 women across the state.

The governor, who performed the flag-off ceremony at the relaunching of Oko'wo Dapo scheme in collaboration with Nigeria For Women Project (NFWP) at the MKO Abiola Int'l Stadium, Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, said women empowerment and emancipation would continue to be at the front burner of his administration.

The event had the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari; Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development; Mrs. Pauline Tallen, wives of the Kwara and Osun State governors, the World Bank Country Director, Mr. Shubham Chaudhuri, among other dignitaries in attendance.

Abiodun noted during the event that in the economic architecture of his government, the womenfolk form a vital economic block, hence, the emplacement of various schemes to empower them, not only financially but economically.


Sofela, while commending the Governor maintained that the kind gesture indicated that governor Abiodun is not only focusing on men but also interested in the welfare of our women especially as regards alleviating poverty and increasing prosperity of women.

"I had never in the history of Ogun state seen a Governor like Dapo Abiodun who is so passionate about the growth of his people" - Sofela added"

He concluded by calling on the people of the state to support governor Abiodun for another term, saying he deserves another run at the helms of affairs.

While some of the Yorubas were sincere about what they did, but were only victims of their own hubris and bad judgment; or political circumstances. Others, when they had opportunity to make Nigeria great by being in synch with their fellow man, bungled it and ended up as unmitigated disasters. Now the mixed bag!

Pa Obafemi Awolowo of blessed memory, was pulled down mostly by Yorubas. Greatest critics of late Oba Adesoji Aderemi, the Ooni of Ife, who doubled as governor general of Western State, were majorly big politicians from his home country. Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the reigning Ooni of Ile Ife, with steady progress and serious determination, reunite the yorubas, is today, being attacked daily by treacherous sponsors from his very home. They want him down at all cost.

Late Adetunji Isiaka Adeleke and his dynasty and the progressive parted to this set of people, to many the dynasty must remain apart and must work against the performing governor Adegboyega Oyetola. To some people, that is democracy but its Yoruba pull him down syndrome at its best. No one ever think of reuniting the family and for us to jointly celebrate the memory of our dear Serubawon.. Late Ladoke Akintola’s family and Obafemi Awolowo’s family to them, must remain as enemies... The need to field ranking person in Ife federal constituency is not in the front burner. Lagbaja is bad lakasegbe o sunwon (That is bad that is worse). Yet the community envies the speakership slot of both state and national assembly, and also principal offices and chairman of committee, is their desires for more dividends of democracy.. O to ge, Enough is enough, Yoruba ronu ooo.. Lets get it right.

How many of the “so called” progressive who benefitted from Late MKO Abiola’s sacrifice even remember his children, Kola Abiola, his brothers and sisters?. Are we so forgetful or accursed?

The coast is getting clearer, day by day, for our own Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I have not seen a northerner speaking against his candidature. One can easily predict that his greatest obstacle would be the Yorubas, and majorly the very people he empowered, they were recruited to bring him down at all cost, and alas they are falling for it. He invested in them for a period like this but today they were hijacked off him, daily testing the pool and operating at devil's workshop. Well, the uncommon Akanbi has divine grace of always winning his battles no matter how tough they seem to be.

Yorubas should better be careful. The enemies are seriously watching and looking for a vacuum to be created. Sen Christopher Ajani Iyiola Omisore's return to the progressive and his eventual recent fortune to me is beyond human comprehension, today he occupied the highest party position in Yoruba land, I honestly pray for God guidance on his behalf and that the Yorubas would accept the reality as divined and be there to surport him to reposition the kingdom. The Yorubas should have known their enemies not by now, but for the ages past, from the beginning! Hold on tight to that in their possession, for the enemies are ready to snatch it.

A word is enough for the wise, but, one thing is certain, posterity will surely judge everyone whether kindly or harshly…

A former member of House of Representatives, Hon. Rotimi Makinde has appealed to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across board to collectively work for the victory of Senator Iyiola Omisore in becoming the next National Secretary of the party ahead of its convention in Abuja on Saturday, March 26, 2022.

Makinde who represented Ife Federal Constituency in the 7th Assembly and a key member of SWAGA '23 in a press statement personally signed by him on Tuesday, March 22, disclosed that Omisore’s progressive and democratic ideals is not in doubt, given his antecedent as a co-founder of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) during the military era and subsequent return to the civil rule in 1999.

He said: "I’m very sure that Senator Iyiola Omisore is going to emerge victorious in the coming APC National Convention, as no one is viable enough to compete with him. His robust antecedents as a Deputy Governor in Osun state, and as ranking Senator who also held sway as Chairman of the Appropriation Committee in the Senate cannot be wished away.
