Traveling the world from my couch to bring you bad parenting news from around the world, I’m Trench Reynolds for Parents Behaving Badly.

Today we travel to Suadi Arabia to bring you a bad parenting story of epic proportions. They may be one of the richest countries in the world but all the money in the world can’t buy you common sense.

I’m sure you’ve seen the headlines about this story, a so-called father married away his daugter away to a 47-year-old man that the ‘father’ owed debts to. Not so unusual right? I mean arranged marriages happen all the time in the Middle East. Except the fact that the girl is only 8 years old.

The girl’s mother took the case to court but since the couple were separated the ‘judge’, Sheikh Habib Abdallah al-Habib Hasenfefer Corporated, ruled that the marriage stands.

It’s ok though because the judge asked, not ordered but asked, that the man give a pledge that the marriage won’t be consummated until the girl reaches puberty. Well, that makes it all better doesn’t it?

With all that money you’d think the country could afford to but itself into at least the latter part of the 20th century. What father in their right mind would give away their 8-year-old daughter to another man because of some ridiculous debt. Don’t they give goats and camels anymore?

MULTAN: A man allegedly killed his four daughters in a village some 160 kilometres east of Multan on Saturday after the eldest daughter married a man of her choice.

Police said labourer Nazeer Ahmed slit the throats of his daughters Muqaddas Bibi, 25; Bano Bibi, 12; Sumera, 8 and Humera, 6, while they were asleep at his home in Chak 187 EB, Burewala, and then surrendered to the police.

"Nazeer Ahmed was afraid of his daughters since one of them had a love marriage against his wishes. He brought his elder daughter back from her in-laws, and early in the morning when all were sleeping he cut the throats of all four," DPO Vehari Mukhtar Iqbal Tikka said.

Ahmed told police his eldest daughter Muqadas had married a man of her choice against his wishes and her act had tarnished the family's honour so he plotted to kill her and his other daughters.

Father kills daughter who married for love


A father, angry that his eldest daughter had married for love, slit her throat as she slept before killing three other daughters in a remote village in eastern Pakistan, police said today.

Nazir Ahmad, a labourer in his 40s, feared the younger girls, aged four to 12, would follow in their sister's footsteps, police said.

Ahmad surrendered to police after the killings in Burewala, about 70 miles east of Multan, a main city in eastern Punjab province.

"He (Ahmad) told us today that he has killed his daughters, and we arrested him," a police spokesman added.

He said the man's eldest daughter, Muqadas Bibi, 25, had married the man of her choice against her father's wishes some weeks ago.

Ahmad had then contacted Bibi only this week, saying he was ready to forgive her, police said.

But during a visit by Bibi to her parents' house, Ahmad slit her throat as she slept and then killed the other three girls, the police spokesman said, adding that police were investigating whether any other relative helped in the killings.

Police are also looking for Bibi's husband.

Hundreds of women are killed in Pakistan every year, many by male relatives, after they are accused of having affairs or marrying for love without their families' consent.

ON the BBC: “A Muslim who married his 15-year-old daughter and made her pregnant had to be rescued from angry villagers in the Indian state of West Bengal, police say.”

Afazuddin Ali, 36, has five children - three of them daughters.

A few months ago Ali married his eldest daughter, telling his wife Sakina that Allah had ordained him to do so.

Not convinced by his story, his angry neighbours in Kasiajhiora village nearly lynched him for what they said was a clear case of incest.

Marriage within the nuclear family is forbidden in Islam.

“He is a deeply religious man and will never lie in the name of Allah,” Sakina told a court in the northern district of Jalpaiguri.

“I agreed to his marriage with our eldest daughter when he invoked divine sanction,” she said.

But this story has failed to impress the other villagers.

“We didn’t know she was married so when we confronted his wife, she told us about the bizarre marriage six months ago,” Sheikh Ramzan, a village leader at Kasiajhiora, said.

“We wanted to smash his head, we were so angry.”

There is nothing wrong in having strong feelings for someone who does not feel the same way as you do and now that you know the guy is not treating you the right way, its time to stop wallowing, and you have to find the courage to leave and that can only come from you.

Of course it is not going to be easy, but things like writing down why you don't love him, how he puts you down, writing down good things about you, surrounding yourself and going out with good friends, allowing yourself to cry and grieve, getting yourself busy with other things etc, would help you with the low self-esteem, emptiness and sadness that you are feeling, and also help you to know that the fault does not lie with you.

Even though it feels like no one else in the world has ever felt this wave of emotion coursing through your body, you will get over it, just stay strong

We were in Fountain of Life church together, also remember Toyin is also a lawyer and he would not stand for injustice. The only reason Toyin is likely to tell Etim to applogise would be because, Okocha had helped in the past when no one was there.

Newspaper reports from South Africa said yesterday that legendary reggae music icon, Lucky Dube, was killed because he was mistaken for a Nigerian.But the Nigerian High Commissioner to South Africa, Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd), who spoke to the Southern Africa correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday reacted with shock to reports that Dube was shot because his killers thought he was a Nigerian. He said it was unacceptable that South Africans would perceive Nigerians with such hatred.

According to him, this perception was in spite of Nigeria's contribution to the liberation of South Africans from the oppressive Apart-heid regime."This kind of situation is unacceptable to us as a people and government,'' Marwa said.He said what the perception meant was that once "one is a Nigerian, you are not safe here in South Africa'' .

The matter, according to him, would be tabled at the Review Meeting of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission later this month in Abuja."This matter has to be tabled and concluded with before the situation escalates out of hand. A 16-year-old girl, Miss Benita Arit Etim Edem, has made a shocking confession, alleging she was impregnated by her 70-year-old father, Etim Edem Edet.

Miss Arit, who has abandoned her father’s residence at Ikot Ishie community, and is currently residing with her maternal uncle at Big Qua Town in Calabar, Cross River state, has vowed not to call Edet “my father any longer”, saying “the punishment and the disgrace he has put me through is too much.”

But, the septuagenarian, who feigned innocence, described the girl, at press time, as a liar, saying it was an abomination in Efik nation for a father to have sex with his own daughter. Speaking to her kinsmen and other residents of the Big Qua community, Arit said the sordid relationship between her and Mr. Edet, started after the death of her mother about four years ago, as the man allegedly pampered her with gifts and always wanted her to sleep with him in the same bedroom.r words: “I was just 12 years old, when he started sleeping with me. In fact I did not know what was going onause I was still too young.”
The girl, who claimed she was deflowered by her father, lamented that “It is a sad story to tell people that somebody who married my mother and gave birth to me, has turned out to be the direct father of my own child”. Weeping uncontrollably, she pointed her finger towards the direction of her four-year-old son, Master Eyo, saying, “Look at what he has done to me. That child is my father’s child; he was the one that impregnated me”. For about two years after the death of her mother, Arit said, her father allegedly made her a sex object, scaring away any boy that attempted to approach her for love.
Throughout the period, she said her father always admired her, especially each time she returned from the bathroom, with a towel tied around her chest.

Apparently unable to control his libido, she said, the man always resorted to touching her buttocks, breasts and rubbing her back, saying “I am a beautiful girl”.

According to Arit, the father started the abominable act again when Master Eyo, who was born through the incestuous relationship between the father and daughter, was about two years old, the 70-year-old man allegedly resumed his amorous advances, saying it was time to wean the little boy so that we can start. As I stopped breast feeding my child, he started, but I could not continue with the nonsense he was doing with me.”

From that day, she said she took the decision to stop her father from having carnal knowledge of her,

‘I have not known peace in my father’s house, as he has been fighting me, telling me to leave his house”. According to her, “there was a day he even called me and gave me N20,000 to take to my boyfriend, so that we can continue, but I refused”.

When confronted with the allegation, Edet refuted it, describing the girl as a thief. He alleged that the girl rather stole his N20,000, which he made futile effort to recoup. Arit, who reportedly ended her educational career in junior secondary school, said her father has offered to send her back to school and provide all her needs, if only she will return to the house and live with him as his wife

Convinced that little Eyo was the product of the old man, Arit said she was prepared to take the child and Mr. Edet for a DNA test and other medical examination to prove the paternity of the boy. She claimed Eyo was a clone of his father. She said both of them have a depression on the head, round cheeks, light complexion, and an identical facial appearance. Arit said her decision not to return to her father’s house has been widely supported by residents of the Ikot Ishie community, including Mr. Edet’s tenants, who felt it was necessary to put an end to the relationship.

A GIRL of 15 was tricked into a "telephone marriage" ceremony to a Sheffield man with a mental age of five in a ceremony recognised by sharia (Islamic law).

When the girl arrived from Pakistan expecting to meet the handsome man she had been shown in a photograph, she found that he was 40 years old, unemployed and disabled.

To make matters worse, her mother-in-law decided to exploit her attractive looks by forcing her into prostitution.

The family invited men to the family home to rape her before she managed to escape to the police by bolting through the front door. She was taken into care and now lives in a refuge.

The case is highlighted in a report by the Centre for Social Cohesion, which has found that policemen, councillors and taxi drivers are turning a blind eye or even conniving in enforcing the Asian community's strict "moral code" on young women.

The girl's marriage last April was not recognised by the Home Office but was approved by the Islamic Sharia Council in Britain. She is typical of the runaway brides at risk of an "honour killing". According to official figures, 10 to 12 women are murdered in Britain in honour killings each year, but the government has been warned by MPs that this is a serious underestimate. Police often record the deaths as cases of domestic violence, while other girls are driven to suicide or taken away to their family's country of origin and never seen again. Many Asian parents would rather resort to violence against their children than see their reputation tarnished by the perceived dishonour of allowing them to become "westernised".

The report, Crimes of the Community, claims the problem is no longer an issue of first-generation migrants importing attitudes from "back home" but is "indigenous and self-perpetuating" because it is sustained by third and fourth-generation immigrants.

The study reveals the case of Saamiya, a 16-year-old girl from Birmingham, whose parents were so angry when they discovered she had a boyfriend that they flew her to Pakistan and told her they had arranged a marriage two hours before the ceremony.

"During the Islamic ceremony my dad was standing behind me with one hand on my shoulder and with his other hand he had a gun which was pointed at my back so that I didn't say 'no'," Saamiya said.

"To everyone else it looked natural — he was just standing there stroking my shoulder — but just before he had told me that he would shoot me if I didn't go through with it."

She was rescued from Pakistan by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office's forced marriage unit and now lives in a refuge in the Midlands, but has been told that she will be murdered by her brothers. The girl told investigators: "I haven't been back home since then. My brothers say that they want to take me back to Pakistan so they can kill me basically. They'll just pay the police there to keep quiet, I don't want to be killed. I'm only 16. I want to live my life."

The think-tank's report comes after Gordon Brown, the prime minister, said last week that he was extremely concerned that too little was being done to prevent honour crimes.

The study criticises the police and schools for failing to take action in a misguided attempt to avoid offending cultural sensibilities.

Karma Nirvana, a support group in Derby, claims it asked local schools last year to display warning posters produced by the forced marriage unit. It said the schools refused.

Derby council last week denied that the group had made the requests, but the prime minister has pledged to investigate reports that the government unit cannot get its advice posters into schools for fear of upsetting local opinion.

According to the report, women who go to the authorities to seek protection have been tracked down through their mobile phones or even by leaks of confidential information from government databases.

Jasvinder Sanghera, director of Karma Nirvana, said that police who find girls who have escaped from their families often simply return them to their parents where they face further abuse, with some Asian officers actually colluding in crimes. Sanghera is taking a case to the Independent Police Complaints Commission of a girl who fled her family but was kidnapped by relatives and held prisoner. She claims that a police officer tipped off the family where the girl was staying.

"Police have a long way to go before they get on top of honour crime. There is a lingering fear among officers of being dubbed racist for probing cultural issues. We've got to shake off that myth," she said.

Last week at the popular club 10 on Victoria Island a very dramatic incident happened that will shape the super Eagles old players friendship circle for sometime to come.

Jay Jay Okocha surprisingly announced to everyone present at the party hall that he's iPhone was missing and that he was very sure that Etim Esin stole the phone and that him (Etim) must be searched right away.

After must hesitation and fury, Etim finally agreed to be searched by Okocha's boys. The phone was not found on him. Then Okocha ordered that etim's wife be searched as well, it was very embarrassing, as the ultimately eager servants of the football wizard searched Etim's wife. You needed to see how she was weeping. Still the Phone was not found on her. Etim queitly walked out of the club with his wife and most people who came walked out blaming Okocha for embarassing Etim in such a manner.

The next day thru the Lagos-based Lawyer Festus Keyamo, Etim Esin and Wife jointly filed a suit at the Lagos high court claiming 100million naira as compensation for public disgrace and false allegation of the crime of stealing etc etc etc.

The police in Area ‘G’, Ogba, have declared an alleged homosexual, Alhaji Rasaq Tunji Alaso, who resides at 7, Barusam Avenue, Alagbado, Lagos, wanted for allegedly sexually assaulting an 18-year-old boy.

P.M.News gathered that Alhaji Alaso sexually assaulted the teenager, Kabiru Amusa, at his residence, on Friday, 16 January. Narrating his ordeal to the police, the victim, a petrol attendant working at Ayokunnu Petrol Station, Abule-Taylor, near Abule-Egba, said Alhaji Alaso has been luring him to his house for a long time, promising to get him a more lucrative job.

He said after a long persuasion, he decided to honour his invitation, only for the man to drug him with the assistance of some men believed to be homosexuals. Kabiru told the police that he was drugged with Don Simon drink and that the man locked him up and had marathon sex with him through the anus, leading to tears and bleeding.

P.M.News further gathered that after the dastardly act, Alhaji Alaso released the teenager, who, afraid for his life, refused to tell his parents what transpired. “But when I could not defecate for four days and I was feeling very uncomfortable, I had to tell my father, who immediately brought me to Area ‘G’ to report the incident,” Kabiru told P.M.News.

The police immediately swung into action and swooped on the suspect’s building. On sighting the police, the suspected homosexual reportedly escaped through the roof of his house and has since been at large. His suspected co-conspirators are Wahab Adeniyi, 39; Gbenga Aladelusi, 32; Okoro Emeka, 21; Hastrup Adesoji, 24; Gbenga Odumolu, 23; Azeez Amusa, 45 and a lady who prevented the police from arresting him, Mrs. Yetunde Adelugba, 38.

While the police has declared the prime suspect wanted, the co-conspirators were on Monday, charged before the Ikeja Magistrate’s Court 8, for conspiracy and indecent sexual assault on a male. The seven suspects were remanded at the Kirikiri maximum prison, pending further hearing in the case, on 20 March.

Meanwhile, the family of the defiled teenager has appealed to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mike Okiro, and the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Marvel Akpoyibo, to ensure that the prime suspect, Alhaji Alaso, was arrested and brought to book. They said this became necessary because the suspect was sighted at the premises of Area ‘G’ last week, in company of a senior police officer from the Force Headquarters annex, Alagbon, Ikoyi, and he was not arrested. P.M.News gathered that before the case was charged to court on Monday, the Force Headquarters, Alagbon, had requested for the transfer of the case file.
