Don't get your hopes too high. Sierra Leone became a colony of Nigeria after our soldiers helped them to quell their civil war. Since then, they have depended on Nigeria and Nigerians for almost everything. They buy almost everything from Nigeria, even speak our pidgin english and have the Nigerian accent. Right now, Innoson has not even captured Igboland and you are dreaming of abroad.

What's important is for him to expand his client base into other African countries and yes he has started with SL, that's a good start.

National ICT Roadmap Workshop For Southeast Holds In Awka

National ICT Roadmap Workshop For Southeast Holds In Awka
Share on FacebookShare on WhatsappPin on PinterestTweet about this on TwitterShare on LinkedIn
The Minister of Communication, Dr. Abdur-Raheem Adebayo Shittu says the federal government is committed to ensuring that the ICT sector realises its full potential as a viable alternative to the
diversification of the economy.

Dr. Shittu made this known during the Second Phase Sensitization Workshop on National ICT Roadmap for the South East Region held in Awka.

The sensitization workshop has its theme “The Role of the Private Sector in the Implementation of the Nigeria ICT Roadmap”.

Delivering his keynote address, the Minister explained that without effective involvement of the private sector in the implementation of the roadmap 2017 to 2020, its efficacy as a tool for harnessing the potentials of the sector will end up in mixed results, as efficiency, expertise and speed can go a long way in complementing efforts in the development process.

Dr. Shittu maintained that the sensitization programme has been deliberately planned by the Ministry as part of its roadmap engagements in furtherance to its desire to broaden continuous
consultations with stakeholders in the private sector.

He added that Nigeria now boasts of one hundred and fifty two million active telephone lines which are more subscribers than the United Kingdom as well as ninety seven million connections to the internet, which places the country to have one hundred and seven percent tele density.

Speaking on behalf of the Anambra state government, the Secretary to the State Government Professor Solo Chukwulobelu said that the workshop is timely and affirmed that the Willie Obiano administration is highly ICT compliant in its day to day activities, and urged the federal government to revive the nation’s energy sector as ICT cannot thrive very well without adequate power supply.

The Anambra State Commissioner For Tertiary Education, Science and Innovation Professor Theresa Nkechi Obiekezie in her address pointed out, that in moving towards knowledge driven society, there is increased recognition that technological advancements and innovations has enhanced the speed and intensity of globalization and liberation of all sectors of the economy.

Goodwill messages came from the Nigerian Communications Commission and Nipost among other relevant organizations, while the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Digital Entrepreneurship Mr Ifeanyi Aniago equally attended the workshop.

Chinese Embassy to open Consular office in Anambra - Commissioner

Jeff Amechi Agbodo, Onitsha

The Anambra State Commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Investment, Dr. Christian Madubuko, has said that the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria will soon open a Consular office in Awka, the state capital.

He said that the Consular office would lessen the stress and cost of obtaining Chinese visa by traders in Anambra State and the entire South East.

Madubuko who disclosed this in Onitsha while addressing traders at the weekend during his ongoing visit to the markets in the state said the Consular office will reduce the stress of going to Lagos or Abuja to obtain Chinese visa.

He said Governor Willie Obiano and the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria struck the deal when the ambassador visited the Governor in Awka recently.

The commissioner said the consular office in Awka will equally reduce the cost of procuring Chinese visa for Anambra state traders.

He said this was one of the manifestations of Governor Obiano’s commitment to improving the welfare of traders in the state.

He restated the determination of the state government to flush out touts who engage in illegal collection of revenues in the state.

The commissioner accused the traders of being part of the extortion and intimidation in Anambra markets but warned them against the dire consequences of such action which he said would impinge on the success of their businesses.

He threatened to sack any market leader who allowed extortion and illegal revenue collection to thrive in their markets, saying “we can corrupt angels in Nigeria.”

He also told the traders and their leaders that those who steal government money would not be allowed to go scot-free, regretting that traders in the state do not pay tax.

Meanwhile, three hoodlums who engaged in illegal levy collection have been arrested in Onitsha by the commissioner and his team. One was arrested at Bridgehead market, while the other two were arrested at Tracas, Upper Iweka, Onitsha.

Anambra School Boys Win Bronze at World Tech Festival

By James Eze (eziokwubundu@gmail.com)

Four boys from St John’s Science and Technical College, Alor in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State have won the Bronze Medal at the International Festival of Engineering, Science and Technology which took place in Tunisia.

The 9-day festival which took place in Monastir, Tunisia from 21- 29th March this year was organized for students aged between 14-24 years from 40 countries and featured a scientific competition in different areas aimed at developing the innovative skills of young scientists and encouraging them to apply their imagination and creativity in solving problems in their environment.

To clinch the Bronze Medal, Ugwuishi Meshack Ogonna, Chuka-Umeora Onyedika Anthony, Nwachukwu Chukwualuka Daniel and Machi Chukwuagozie Dominic squared up to a stiff challenge from technologically advanced countries like Canada, Italy, South Korea, Turkey, China, Sweden, Ukraine, Malaysia, Brazil, Bosnia Herzgovina, Indonesia, Tunisia South Africa etc.

The Anambra Boys were only bested by Daniil Sharoykin from Belarus who won the Gold Medal with a quality water control equipment and a representative of another country who won silver in the competition. The Bronze Boys of Anambra achieved their remarkable feat with a device they called the Adaptable Alternative Power Supply for Sub-Saharan Africa.

The device is an electric inverter with a solar panel that enables it to absorb energy from the sun, warehouse the energy in inverter and subsequently distribute it in households and offices as the case may be.

The exploits of the Bronze Boys came barely seven months after five school girls from Regina Celi Secondary School Onitsha won the Gold Medal at the world technovation fair in San Francisco, USA.

St John’s Science and Technology College Alor is a public mission school which has benefitted immensely from the intense focus of the Anambra State Government under Governor Willie Obiano on education.

Receiving the boys in his office on Tuesday, the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr Nkem Okeke observed that the state was doing exceedingly well in education at the moment. “The progress we are making shows that if you focus on a sector and show some seriousness about what you are doing, put the right people in charge, the results will come in.”

Dr Okeke further observed that “It takes a lot for kids to leave the shores of this country and beat people that come from the developed countries; to stand up and defend what they have produced and to show what they can do if given the opportunity. Listening to these boys talk with such confidence about direct current and alternating current, it shows that they own this invention. They understand what they are doing. I think they need to be encouraged more to continue with what they are doing.”

Earlier in her opening remarks, the Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof Kate Omenugha had attributed the excellent results that the state has been recording in the educational sector to the huge investments made by the Obiano administration in education.

“Our partnership with the church is working very well. We have imbued in our students that global competitiveness and a strong belief in themselves; which is very important. We have perfected what we call a “value-based education.” Umu akwukwo Anambra believe that nothing is impossible, absolutely nothing. And “Yes, We Can.” That’s our slogan. The belief that nothing is impossible. These are things we have taught them. We have taught them our shared values too; that they must be the best in all they do. Today we are excited that again Anambra State has done Nigeria proud. That in a competition that featured over 31 countries, we came back with the bronze medal,” Prof Omenugha enthused.

[i]Obiano inaugurates N1.2bn fish feed plant in Onitsha
By NAN | 30 March 2019 | 4:30 pm

Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra on Saturday inaugurated a modern fish feed production plant valued at N1.2 billion in Onitsha to boost fish business in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the private plant is owned by Grand Cereals Ltd., a Nigerian integrated foods company that produces and markets consumer food products.

The firm, which is a subsidiary of Nigeria’s oldest and versatile conglomerate, UAC of Nigeria Plc., produces Vital Fish Feed brand.
Obiano commended the firm, saying the project was an outcome of an earlier engagement between the government and the firm in 2015.

The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, said his administration was already partnering with the firm to integrate farmers into the project.

According to him, we are already working to ensure that the basic raw materials including maize, sorghum and cassava are sourced within the state.

The governor said the project fell within the agriculture and industry pillars of his administration and would help generate employment for the people of the state.

“We expect the facility to expand to employ more people and to ensure that the state is self-sufficient in fish production,’’ he said.

Obiano said his government would work closely with the company and other manufacturing firms within the Ogbaru Industrial Layout, where the firm is located to solve the problem of power supply.

“We are ready for more investors; we will like your Gala factory to come to Anambra because we are looking for investors,’’ he said.

In a remark, the Acting Deputy Managing Director, Grand Cereals Ltd., Mr Sanjeen Jain, explained that the company would begin production of 2,500 tonnes of fish feeds per month.

In spite of its production capacity, Jain said Nigeria currently has a supply gap of about 2.1 million tonnes of fish.

He said the location of its factory in Onitsha would bring fish feed closer to the farmers in the Southern markets, improve availability all-year round and further improve quality.

Jain commended the efforts of the state government at various levels to develop agriculture and farmers’ output via their various programmes.

“Grand Cereals will continue to contribute its own quota to the development of agriculture value chain in Nigeria,’’ he said.

Jain, however, said that prospects in the aquaculture sector could improve if government sustains its ban on the importation of frozen fish and poultry products into Nigeria and aggressive action against smugglers.

He called for the provision of new fish farming estates with laid-out farming plots and support services with accelerated grant of Certificates of Occupancy for small and medium-sized farmers.

Jain also called for special support to feed millers in terms of tax holidays and easier access to credit from CBN/BOA, especially those that are currently providing extension services and market development programmes.

Earlier, the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Afam Mbanefo, who commended the company for sighting its factory in the state, said the plant would assist the state government build its fish value chain.

He expressed confidence that in the next six months, fish sold in the state would be produced within.

Mbanefo further assured the firm of the continued collaboration of the ministry to achieve Gov. Obiano’s vision in the fish sector.

Also speaking, the National President of Catfish and Allied Fish Farmers Association of Nigeria, Mr Rotimi Olibale, urged Grand Cereals to continue to partner farmers to tackle challenges in the business.

Olibale said that the Vital Fish Feeds produced by Grand Cereals were of good quality and were being recertified yearly to maintain the quality.

Duo Resto: Bringing The Culinary Experience In The Capital City Of Awka

Fine wines, fine foods , Amazing folks, good ambience & courteous staff are hallmarks of fine dining and Duo Restaurant which recently opened in the Capital City of Anambra has this all. Poised to change the way folks in the city wine as done, Duo opened shop lately.

Well…this weekend, something good came to Awka. A super deluxe place known as Duo Restaurant opened yesterday in Awka. It is tucked perfectly away behind Lounge 24. And there’s so much excitement in the air.

But it is not just a restaurant; Duo is also an upscale lounge that was tastefully crafted to meet the silent cravings of the emerging middle class in Awka and environs.

Everything about Duo was prefigured, every line on the wall, the slight opening of the window; they were all chiselled out to fit the central motif of the place. The beguilingly simple furniture, the creative use of space, the intricate weaving of choice wood panels onto the walls, the masterful crafting of the bar and finally the carefully chosen waiters and waitresses, are all a clear sign that Duo does not leave anything to chance.

And take this…there is no doubt that Duo made a deliberate effort to set itself apart from the rest. A first time visitor cannot miss the strong feeling that Duo is for ndi odogwu. The ambience will easily tell anyone who strays into Duo that they are in the wrong place.

And so, speaking excitedly about Awka’s swankiest watering hole, George, the Manager declared “We are bringing a new civilization to the food industry in Anambra State. What we have here is different from what you see in Awka, Enugu or even Warri. Since we opened today, it has been so far so good. We have enjoyed a lot of patronage. We exceeded our open-day expectations. We are happy. It is not like we are in Abuja or Lagos or even Port Harcourt. But the response is great.”

I’m very impressed with the rapid development of the city. Believe me, it looks like the major cities now. It is developing very fast and we thank the governor for that. He is doing a good job. Really, I’m very excited. From what I’m seeing in this place, I think we made the right decision to come here. Anambra people love their home towns. They are always everywhere. And they can show you the light.”

Well…I think Duo is here to stay. I think Duo is here to serve. I think Duo is ready to takeover. And this is why…as my friend and I began to enjoy our tasty meal of rice and a sprinkle of seafood, a svelte waitress who had observed us silently gently sidled over and asked, “are you guys enjoying the food?” I turned and looked at her stunned. The last place a waiter had asked me if I was enjoying my meal was at Dulles Airport, Washington DC in 2010, where had sat, hunched over coffee with the respected novelist, Helon Habila, while I waited for my flight to Houston.

Well…Duo has impressed me. Perhaps, quality customer service has come to Awka. Perhaps, finally, the big cats in the city now have a perfect hideaway to spend their evening. Perhaps!
