Onitsha is by far the New York of the southeast and flagship city of the region. Aside high-rise flats in Onitsha, there are still large concentration of cozy serene low density areas. Beautiful city.

APGA Holds National Convention, Returns Oye as National Chairman By James Eze The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) today held its National Convention in which it renewed the tenure of its National Chairman, Chief Victor Oye for another four years. The very peaceful and successful National Convention witnessed an impressive turnout by delegates from all states of the federation at the Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre Awka where the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano was also returned as the party’s Board of Trustees Chairman and National Leader. Also returned as members of the 32-member BoT are Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, wife of the late Ikemba Nnewi, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Senator Victor Umeh, former National Chairman, Alhaji Sani Shinkafi, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka and Dr Uju Okeke. Meanwhile, the new APGA Board of Trustees also has new entrants like Chief Chukuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Jnr, Prof Charles Soludo, Dame Virgy Etiaba, Dr Mrs Ifeyinwa Obegolu, Senator Ifeanyi Ararume, br Shola Oyedeji, Chief Sunday Umeoduagu, Labaran Maku and Chief Chief Chikwe Udensi. Others include philanthropist, Chief Anthony Enukeme (Tonimas), Alhaji Habib Gajo, Chief Paul Odenigbo, Hajia Hauwa Ibrahim Funtua, Nubunga Bako, Barr Ahamdi Emmanuel Nweke, Gen W. T Gbor, Alhaji Yusuf Mohammed, Group Capt. Joe Orji, Alhaji Abubakar Chika Mohammed, Prof David Bamgboye, Chief Patrick Obianwu, Hon Uche Okafor, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, Hon Anayo Nebe, Hon Ben Nwankwo and Pat Offiah. It would be recalled that as is the standard practice, APGA had a few weeks ago, dissolved its Board of Trustees in the run up to its National Convention. In his remarks at the Convention, the newly returned BoT Chairman and National Leader, Governor Obiano commended the party for demonstrating enviable maturity in conducting all the Ward and State Congresses in the build up to a very successful National Convention. He specifically commended the party’s National Working Committee for doing an excellent job and charged the party faithful to march forward with a renewed vigour like the Disciples of Jesus Christ did after experiencing the phenomenon of the Pentecost and spread the gospel of APGA across Nigeria. “If all of us here work very hard in our various places from today, APGA will overtake other parties in the country. And considering the peace with which we conducted the congresses and now the National Convention, I can say with all authority that the people that were elected were elected properly and therefore the choice of the people,” Governor Obiano remarked and further observed that the entire process had no rancour. He charged party faithful to be proud of APGA, urging them to proudly adorn party colours and emblems to everywhere they went. “We have done very well. We are the third largest political party in Nigeria and from this position we can leapfrog to the first position. And it is very easy to achieve because if people see that there is peace and decorum in this party, they will join us en masse and that will turn the fortune of this party,” he further added. Earlier in his address, the come-backing National Chairman, Ozonkpu Victor Oye had silenced whispers about his integrity when he declared that all the funds the party had realised in the last primary elections were very much intact. Said he, “We are very happy and proud to announce to this distinguished audience that in the last primary elections we ensured that every kobo that people paid to the party counted; every kobo is in the coffers of the party. Nobody touched a dime out of that money. And we made a total of N1.3bn.” Ozonkpu Oye reminded party members to recall that in 2015, the party had outlawed all cash transactions and insisted that every kobo must be paid into its accounts for accountability, probity and transparency. Consequently, the party chieftain appealed to all members of the party nursing different degrees of injuries to return to the party and move forward in the new dispensation. “I use this opportunity to appeal to our brothers and sisters who feel aggrieved, to put the past behind them. What God has set in future for all of us is bigger than whatever you thought should have come to you in the past. There is hope for this party and there is hope for everybody that has found it worthy to identify with this party,” he declared.

FG Flags Off Site And Service Scheme In Anambra The federal government has flagged off development of the Federal Sites and Services Scheme in Anambra state. The Minister of Works, Power and Housing Mr Babatunde Fashola, performed the ceremony along Awkuzu-Umunya axis of the Enugu-Onitsha express road. Correspondents Ngozi Obileri and Michael Ameh covered the event and report that the Federal site and services scheme will be located at Umunya-Awkuzu, in Oyi local Government area. Inaugurating the project, Mr Fashola represented by the Director Highway construction and rehabilitation, Ministry of Works, Power and housing, Engineer Yemi Oguntominiyi expressed happiness that the project has kicked off in earnest, after a long delay since after the land was allocated due to logistics issues. Mr Fashola said that all plans have been made to ensure that the project did not record any set back, promising that he will come back soon to commission the project. Earlier in his speech, the traditional ruler of Umunya in Oyi Local Council area and the chairman of Oyi traditional Rulers Council Igwe Chris Onyekwuluje who commended the Minister for the visit and for making the dream a reality , thanked Federal Government for accepting to site the project in their area. Igwe Onyekwuluje drew the attention of the Minister to what he called some anomalies that may disturb the smooth running of the schemes B and C of the project that were contained in the scheme A of the project, urging him to remedy the situation. In an address, the chairman of Awkuzu-Umunya Allottees Committees, retired Colonel Michael Onuorah who said approval to site the project was given since 1980, regretted that work was delayed on the two hundred and thirty six hectares of land allotted for the project, appealing to the Minister to ensure early completion of the project. In a vote of thanks, Mrs Eucharia Alozie who is a Director in the Ministry of Works, Power and Housing, appreciated Ndi Awkuzu-Umunya for the warm reception accorded them urging them to keep close monitoring on the project. The event featured cultural dance and masquerade display. The Minister and his entourage earlier paid a courtesy visit to all the traditional rulers in Oyi at their Secretariat in Nteje, where the traditional ruler of Nteje, Igwe Rowland Odegbo during the kolanut ritual, prayed for peace of Oyi Council Area, Anambra state and Governor Obiano as well as Nigeria as a whole.
