Hello everyone, please I need your inputs on something i've been trying to clarify on behalf of my sister. She's currently in the UK, and she submitted an application for both Canada work visa and Canada PR while still in the UK. She already has a visiting visa, and Here are my questions:
1) She did her medicals last week for the work visa, and this week she got medical request for the PR. Can she use the same biometrics and medicals for both work visa and PR?
2) She wants to travel to Canada on visiting visa this week, while still awaiting approval for the work visa. Can she submit her passport in Canada for her work visa, even if she applied in the UK?
Thank you all for your inputs.

Sometimes, you won’t receive your funds immediately you arrive. It could take a month or two months. Some of these VOs know this. It would be wise to show proof of independence even with a scholarship, to some extent. I know fully funded scholars who were rejected on the basis of insufficient funds.
orjohn24:
Oga, only discuss what you're certain about. If you're on a full scholarship covering living expenses (as many scholarships only cover partial costs), and you're fortunate to secure a fully funded scholarship, proof of funds isn't necessary. Simply present evidence of the scholarship, especially if it's a departmental one; your admission letter serves as confirmation. I'm acquainted with numerous scholarship students in Canada who didn't need to show proof of funds when fully funded!

Congratulations to everyone that recently got their PPR. To those that are still waiting, you shall not wait in vain. Are you traveling as a student or as a family for the first time to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, very soon? RCCG lighthouse, Saskatoon, freely assists students or families to settle down by helping them search for accommodation, airport pickup, shopping for household items, and lots more. Kindly reach out to me if you need this assistance in any way. God bless you all. May this new week be filled with more PPRs by God's grace. Amen!!!

Are you a female? If yes, there might be a shared apartment available for May - but it's for females only. Maybe you can stay in an Airbnb for 1 week, then move in after the person occupying the space leaves in May. Send me an email if you are a female, I'm a female too btw.

Landing gist:

I decided to leave Nigeria October 1st to mark my independence from the country.

Left Abuja 10:20 pm via Lufthansa.
I was a bit tensed cos of enrollment letter. While the Lufthansa staff asked, I gave her all my documents. She kept scrolling but she didn’t see. She was so in a rush and gave dem all back to me. I felt relieved. It was a 7 hrs trip to Frankfurt. I was quite excited when I finally got on board. While on the trip, foods were served but I only got tea cos my body never fit reason vegetable n tomato with a touch of salad. I knew hunger for soon wire me. Flight smooth, no much turbulence, Comfy seats, watched movies, slept till we got to Frankfurt.

Hunger set in, I decided to get some snacks while we wait 5 hrs for flight to montereal. An apple drink similar to lacasera and a cup cake, dem bill me $30. Na dier I know say good life is expensive.
BTW, no matter Wetin u de buy, no de try convert the money to naira cos u go just de get Biggy BP. I ate and I no Belleful. For my mind, just endure, u go reach Canada.
After 5 hrs, we departed to Montreal on a 8 hrs flight. Na same food dem serve again, this time, I took burger, tea and water, watched movies, slept and dreamt beautifully.

We got to Montreal, immigration check, COVID vaccine checked, ArriveCAN checked, as we approach final lap for study permit. I was supposed to have a connecting flight to Toronto but cos of the numerous checks, I missed. My fears returned again when I tot of enrollment letter but I hoped for the best, I was finally cleared without being asked. I boarded Toronto on a rescheduled flight within paying extra. Got to Toronto, converted my BTA to CAD.

My disappointment started when person wey promise to pick me no gree pick calls. No Canada sim, no data. I left the airport on Uber to register sim, trip cost $55, sim with 1 month free call, text and 10gig data $50. I took another Uber to a hotel $55 trip. When I got there, I paid $120/ day for 7 nyts. Money just de go fian fian.

As I de like this, owo ti ku waso ooo.
Yesterday, I went to the school to confirm my slot for January. Ryt not, I’m looking for a shared apartment in Toronto or Brampton. Thereafter, a menial job till January cos money must be made. So, if anybody is willing to share an apartment within those zones, let’s connect. Male or female, I no mind. Abeg, anybody wey fit cook is preferable cos na face just de fresh, I don lean within 3 days.

Drops pen.

Did you get a return ticket or one way? Do you know if British airways will accept one way ticket?
badmanjo:
Then it definitely depends on the border officer who receives you, just be prepared with all ur required documents and pray the person is fast

badmanjo:
I can't really say because it's a case by case thing and could depend on the immigration officer you meet. Is ur POE Toronto?

Good morning everyone and happy Sunday to you. May this Sunday's grace open doors of PPR this week for all that are still waiting. Amen!!!

Please my gurus I have questions;
1) Please how long does it usually take to complete the whole Immigration process when you arrive Canada? Can a layover of about 7hrs be sufficient for me? I'm asking because I don't want to miss my connecting flight.

2) Those that recently travelled on British airways, does the airline enforce a return ticket or is one-way acceptable?

Thank you all for your time.

If someone had told me this will be a reality last year maybe I’d have been in doubt. This is to encourage everyone oo, the pain of waiting cannot be measured but God will come through. I cried yesterday sef and almost sent them an email that my mental health is seriously affected by the endless wait but one voice said I should chill.

I’ve made wonderful friends that have helped me through this platform and for that I’m grateful. Thank you all and may God help us on our individual journeys. Amen

Programme: MSc. Actuarial Mathematics
Programme duration: 2 years
Admission: April 26th
Application submitted: May 14th
Biometrics request: May 15th
Upfront medicals: June 3rd
Biometrics done: June 4th
Medicals passed: June 11th
BVL: September 9th
PPR: September 9th

Documents submitted (in no particular order):

1) The 3 IRCC application forms for TRV, Study permit outside Canada and Family Information.
2) BSc. (Maths) Certificate and Unofficial Transcript
3) Advanced Diploma certificate in Business Administration and transcript (Obtained in 2019 in search of how to increase points for Express Entry)
4) SOP of 2 pages
5) Marriage Certificate
6) My birth certificate and Child's birth certificate showing names of mother and father from NPC.
7) Pictures showing registry wedding in 2020, family picture during child's dedication and pictures taken on my child's birthday to "emotionally" demonstrate happy moments for home ties.
8 ) 3 different land documents (deed of assignment) all in my name with only one having survey plan. This is to address economic ties and assets.
9) Current job offer letter, 3 months pay slips, salary increment letter, work ID card, introduction letter from my employer and study leave letter stating I'm eligible to apply for study leave upon getting my study permit approved.
10) Screenshot evidence of applying for CAQ. The CAQ Approval Letter came later and I sent via webform and emails.
11) My passport data page (Virgin passport...lol)
12) Admission letter (LOA) with full funding that covers cost of entire study in excess of $56k CAD
13) 2 MBS from Stanbic IBTC Bank. One for salary account (Bal N170k) and savings account (Bal N600k) with very good cash inflows and outflows.
14) IELTS General TRF to expire in November

The story:
I started this Canada waka since 2017 targeting PR in Express Entry Category. In the quest to get the target score to max language points for EE, I wrote IELTS 3 times. I missed a particular EE bi-weekly draws by 3 points...very painful I must say. My profile in the EE pool eventually expired and I wrote the 4th IELTS which luckily I now used to satisfy NSE requirements (although that NSE thing na scam).

I applied to 3 different schools, U of Ottawa, Simon Fraser and Concordia. Ottawa admitted me without funding but Concordia came late to the rescue with better funding. My first degree was in Mathematics (CGPA 4.36/5.00) and it aligned with my proposed study in Actuarial Mathematics. Did I mention that I graduated in 2010? What a huge study gap! I was so worried about this but the advanced diploma I did in 2019 belled the cat. I graciously stated that in my SOP that the diploma is recent and although I have been away from classroom for long, I came out with distinction in the diploma (CGPA 4.09/5.00).

I was not sure if the deed of assignment documents for the lands in my name made any difference but I added them because of what I read from others here. I believe this, the family pictures with wife and child staying back in Nigeria, proof of employment and letters from employer emphasized strong home and economic ties.

At some point, I read about a denial for a fully funded applicant and my heart sank for a moment. I did not submit any extra funding letters from my supervisors. I assumed all the details they need are there on the admission letter. However, I carefully mentioned the funding part in my SOP and included email address of my supervisor (hoping any clarification they might need about the funding should be directed to him...I dont need any additional documents request abeg...lol). My admission letter was a conditional offer (the condition was the official transcript I am yet to send) and it gave me concerns when people here were emphasizing unconditional offer letters.

I almost lost my mind frequently checking for updates on my application. I was even begging God for a ghost update to be sure my application has not been abandoned and gathering "online dust" already. I never saw any. My eligibility and background check started 2 days after biometrics was done. After medicals was updated to passed on June 11th, all I got was a long silence until today that the eagle landed. BVL and PPR mails dropped 3 minutes apart around 6.23am. Currently, I have deferred my admission to Winter 2022 starting in January but yet to get a new/revised LOA.

In summary, everything was a miracle from God. Irrespective of my sinful nature, the Almighty God decided to show me mercy and grace prevailed. I really can't capture all the details but these are the highlights.

Finally, God answered my calls and granted me amnesty!!! All Glory and honour be to Him alone. Thank you to all the people contributing positively on this thread. This Nairaland is a goldmine. Special thanks to the brain behind this forum @seun and all the moderators.

To all of you expecting the miracle, receive it in Jesus' name. Amen.
