Exactly. To my knowledge Abu Dhabi citizens get 10years and not 5. He may be from another African country like Ghana. Ghanaians also get 5year visiting visas.

I believe so. He may be a resident in a different country though. I believe this site is for naija people and my advice is tailored exclusively towards my naija people . If op is from somewhere else he should have said so even though the fraud in question trumps nationality regardless.

Uncle even if all of you have United nations passport you can be deported. Infact I foresee issues for you either at the POE or at Embassy renewal.

Forget all these story, if I were you I will make a singe trip to the US and find a way to repay that medicaid. Try and clear that bill before your wife travels. I am interested in the outcome.

He can run but cannot hide. He will have to renew the visa one day. So, even if he has a successful POE the day of reckoning will surely come during renewal.

i paid 2000 dollars to the doctor for delivery
but nothing to hospital
medicaid covered hospital bills
my uncle encouraged me to do so

i hav receipts for the doctor paying 2000 dollars
but nothing for hospital bills

so u people mean that US embassy knows about the medicaid but the cbp officer at poe will have no idea that i used medicaid

.
i can also show the cbp, no balance on online website of hospital.

and also
can they refuse a pregnant mother with a us citizen child with her plus visitor husband
taking 13000 dollars , all receipts of the doctor for delivery

There is nobody at POE or embassy that will believe that you can deliver a baby in the US and come away with a bill of only $2000. So, don't even try lying because you are heading to secondary inspection. Having a US citizen doesn't give you any special privilege or excuse the fact that you used a means tested benefit you were not entitled to.

hello everyone

here is my story and questions

me and my wife applied for our US visa in jan 2013 in dubai. and we got 5 years b1/b2. my wife was about 5 months pregnant.
At visa interview, consular officer dint asked any questions or any documents. interview lasted about 3 minutes.

You just created a huge mess for the family going forward. Even if you are not asked for receipts at POE this time you will definitely be required to show payment receipts during visa renewal/interview . The amount you owed must have been sent to collections and subsequently paid by the American tax paying public.

we went to US in feb 2013. my wife was 6 months pregnant.
at point of entry in newyork, we got stamped for 6 months. no problems at all. cbp dint as about pregnancy, just asked about money and address of stay.i was having 9800 dollars

he had our first baby in may. before having our baby, i applied for medicaid with social services.
so all the hospital expenses was paid by the medicaid. and we came back to our home country we our US citizen baby

so now my wife is pregnant again
we have 3 years of visa left
and we are going again to US for our second baby

my question is:
will we get into some trouble this time?
at point of entry in jfk newyork, the cbp officer, will there be a red flag in this system or not
i mean : we used the medicaid before, will the cbp officer wil knew about the medicaid

we will be having 13000 dollars with us this time and a pregnant wife and a us citizen child

i ll also pay the medicaid every peny of it.
please help me out
i am desperately worried

You just created a huge mess for the family going forward. if by chance you are not asked for receipts at POE this time around you will definitely be required to show full payment during visa renewal/interview phase. The amount you owed must have been sent to collections and subsequently paid by the American tax paying Public. Using Medicaid is a cardinal sin for any visitor and is treated as fraud by the U.S government.
The part that's baffling is the fact that you hadn$9800 and could have made payment and maybe worked out a payment plan if you ran out of funds. You just decided to enjoy what you were not entitled to. Why do we then wonder why Nigerian's are subjected to all sorts of aggressive interviews.

@aadeg you Just stated my exact fears ..difficult situation that only the person in it can understand. Hubby hates Nigeria with a passion. Going to America means starting from level zero even with all the Nigeria degrees. At the end of the day may God help us .

You don't need to start from scratch with your degrees.
All you need to do is get in touch with an accredited credential evaluation service and as the name implies they will help evaluate your degrees for higher education or employment purposes. You can then seat for MCAT,GMAT, LSAT, or GRE. I have friends who have successfully completed their Masters degree after having their naija ones evaluated and writing one of these exams. Another is working in a bank after her Degree in banking and finance was evaluated. She is now combining both work and a higher degree. So, my dear you definitely don't have to start from scratch if you don't want to.

The lifestyle and earning power of a nurse in the United States cannot even be compared to that of a Bank Mgr in Nigeria excluding stolen funds of course. Do we even realize how much taxes these people pay compared to the peanuts some pay back home? If we were made to pay for the real value of services in Nigeria the poverty rate would be close to 98%. Let's face the obvious...if Nigeria was better we would not be subjecting ourselves to Insults by overzealous CBP officers at POE. Until we are able to stem systemic corruption, build world class infrastructures and provide security for life and property Nigeria cannot be compared in anyway, shape or form with the United States with all her flaws. I would love to live in a country where my husband could change his flat tire on third mainland bridge without being robbed, kidnapped or shot.I hope with these few points of mine I have been able to convince you distinguished panelists that it naija we still can't call the police for an emergency but they are sure to be around when it's checkpoint time grin

You are very correct.. perhaps the lady in question can seek recourse to Obamacare but her case is dicy because she is coming into US as a b1/b2 visitor, hoping to convert to a green card holder when hubby files for her. I hope using Obamacare as a visitor will not affect her application. Note, she got the visa as a single lady, the embassy has no record of her marriage to her husband, so using obamacare for childbirth will affect her the way it will affect us, except she doesn't return to Nigeria afterwards, and hubby files for her while she is still in US. Meaning she may not be able to return to US till her green card is ready.
That's why I suggested the P.M.E Program for her, which she can defend when the time comes and will in no way affect her green card chances.

You are correct. She definitely doesn't have a social security number either. So, she will be traveling as a visitor and should carry enough funds to make it through POE. She and her hubby can then decide on how to proceed further because once the immigration papers are filled the residency restrictions kick in.

grin Where art you chill?

Her hubby most def will be on a form of insurance but she may not be able to access it if hubby didn't add her as a beneficiary.
[s]Pregnancy is already a pre-existing condition[/s], [s]thus most if not all insurance companies may not accept her.[/s]
When she gets in, she should explore the P.M.E program for pregnant women in her state. Using it will not affect her immigration/ green card ambition as a spouse of a USC, but if she goes for medicaid when hubby doesn't qualify for medicaid, it may go into her record and rear it's ugly head when it's time to get approved for a green card.
Just a little point of correction. The affordable care act aka Obama care abolished the pre existing clause insurance companies used to deny coverage in the past So, anybody with any pre existing condition is now covered by the new health care law including pregnant women if health insurance is gotten through an employer or the health care market place.. Details here;

@bachangel, I am a qualified Medical Doctor here in Nigeria, I didn't train here though but have worked here, and I will clearly tell you that you cannot compare our healthcare in Nigeria to the US..
I am very concerned about my health especially when I have an alternative option..
If you are privileged to have all the info you have, then you should thank God. So many people have money, billions but are not so informed or exposed enough to know, so let your knowledge be to give you the best.

Giving birth is a major event that seeking the best healthcare possible is something of upmost priority to me, even when the outcome is very successful and it turns out 'easy' so to speak...You must have visited an NHS hospital in the UK during your MSC and I'm sure you wouldn't want to compare it to our services here.

Litigation rate is very high for ob/gyn Doctors in the U.S. so even for that reason alone, you get the very best there, amongst other reasons; emergency response time is shorter than ours, abeg I cant even shout..patient-doctor ratio is not to be compared to us so the Doctors will always give their best, plus mode of training is incomparable!

This is the little I can add to the wealth of knowledge above...
This thread is so informative and i sincerely appreciate everyone here for the concern for each other.

May God make all our dreams come true..
Y'al should stay blessed!

I hope and pray that one day our health care "professionals" and academicians will go on strike for the improvement of infrastructures in our institutions. Strikes should not only be about salary and allowances . If you know you are working in a horrible environment devoid of the necessary tools for the trade be vocal. America may one day Institute the same policy the United Kingdom is now known for...will the next generation move to the next "blue kpali" nation? We have seen how things are done outside our Shores let's demand for that same level of service back home. Nigerian's remain some of the best brains anywhere in the world. The only downside is that we are too patient when it comes to taking crap from the establishment. After we return we our precious babies we still have to take them to these hospitals in naija for checkups and treatments. Unless you have the money to fly to Houston for any problem that comes up afterwards. In other words -When you bring home a Ferrari make sure your local dealership is equipped to handle any eventualities.

Good Morning everyone in the house. have been a silent reader on this trend. am not happy as am typing this. I was at the embassy here in lagos this morning for 7.00am with my husband and son , thou we were denied but i feel i shd share how it went and hear people's view.

VO: GOOD MORNING
MYSELF & HUBBY: GOOD MORNING.
VO: WHERE IN THE STATES ARE U GOING TO?
HUBBY: HOUSTON
VO: WHAT FOR ?
HUBBY: VACATION & CHILD BIRTH.
VO: WHICH DOCTOR ARE U USING AND HOW DID WE COME ABOUT THE PLACE.
MYSELF: DOCTOR MICHEAL AMARO AND WEST HOUSTON MEDICAL CENTRE; INTRODUCED TO US THROUGH MY SIS IN LAW IN THE STATE AND A FRIEND THAT DELIVER HER BABY THERE.
VO: ANY THING FROM THE HOSPITAL AND DOCTOR?
MYSELF: GAVE HER THE LETTER FROM DOCTOR MICHEAL AMARO AND RECEIPT SHOWING THE TOTAL BILL AS 2,800 WHICH HAVE FINISHED PAYING SHOWING ZERO BALANCE AND WEST HOUSTON MEDICAL CENTRE RECEIPTS SHOWING THAT I MADE PAYMENT OF 3,000 HOSPITAL STAY FOR 2DAYS .
VO: ALL SHE SAID AFTER ALL WAS THAT THE HOSPITAL IS TOO CHEAP COMPARE TO WHAT IS BEING PAID FOR DELIVERY IN THE UNITED STATE.
MYSELF & HUBBY: WE TOLD HER WE HAVE ENOUGH MONEY IN OUR ACCOUNT TO PAY IF ANY OTHER PAYMENT COMES UP OVER THERE EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE FINISHED PAYING ALL OUR BILLS. SHE DIDNT LOOK UP, SHE JUST CONTINUE TYPING AND GAVE US OUR PASSPORT BACK AND SAID WE SHOULD GO TROUGH A LONG PAPER SHE GAVE US . SHE DIDNT BOTHER CHECKING OUR STATEMENT OF ACCOUNT AS MY HUSBAND HAS OVER 7MILLION IN HIS ACCOUNT WHILE I HAVE LIKE 2.9MILLION IN MY ACCOUNT. REALLY CONFUSED FOR NOW DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO.

That must have been an unpleasant experience . But getting a visa and even a subsequent successful POE entry is always a gamble no matter how many times one has visited the states. The only people guaranteed entry are citizens. I think you should rework your expenditure and reapply in Abuja. Make sure your reworked expenditure does not raise another problem of desperation. Vo's do not like getting the impression that one is emptying one's account just to undertake this endeavor.Goodluck

All, let's continue to give advice based on experience and not on speculation.

Your husband having a green card does make things a little harder. Didn't want to mention this so I don't discourage you, My husband tried a visitors visa 3 times and was denied all 3 times cos there was clearly an intent to immigrate according to the VO. And at this time all I was doing with my green card was going to give birth and the 6 month routine.

You do have to pay your bills as you are not yet a permanent resident. Even logically if you go to a hospital do the bills come out in your name or your husbands name?

And yes if you are not able to go right now, I wouldn't worry too much as your husband can still file for you all. You giving birth there would only have made the process a little faster for only your child.

And as I said everyone's case is a little different so I won't discourage you, just be ready with all your answers and pray really hard. Be careful with any responses as it concerns husband being in Nigeria and working. Everything will work out for your good.

God Bless

Absolutely spot on.

Since your husband has a green card , it is quite easy for you to get a visiting visa, because your husband will obviously fle for you to become a PR.

2ndly' you do not have to bother paying the hospital bill But you can pay if you like(that's your decision to make)because your husband is rightly open to the any free medical as a residence.
Because your husband is a residence and will automatically become a citizen in 5years from the day he got the green card, accepting Medicaid for your baby is not a crime.
You case is quite different from every other person here.
Your husband status has covered the baby and even u.

Let the vo know that your intention is to give birth and go back home, the vo know if he/she denies you, you will probably still go to the USA legally after your husband files for you.

I don't think her husband being a resident improves her chances oh. I think it actually makes her look more like somebody with an immigrant intent. I would avoid mentioning anything about hubby being a resident if the VO does not bring it up because by law he is supposed to be living in the United States and not in Nigeria... That's why it is called permanent residency. He can't spend more than 6months outside the United States or he would put his green card at risk.

You may be found to have abandoned your status if you:

Move to another country, intending to live there permanently.
Remain outside of the United States for an extended period of time, unless you intended this to be a temporary absence, as shown by:
The reason for your trip;
How long you intended to be absent from the United States;
Any other circumstances of your absence; and
Any events that may have prolonged your absence.
Note: Obtaining a re-entry permit from USCIS before you leave, or a returning resident visa (SB-1) from a U.S. consulate while abroad, may assist you in showing that you intended only a temporary absence.
Fail to file income tax returns while living outside of the United States for any period.
Declare yourself a “nonimmigrant” on your U.S. tax returns etc.

This thread is primarily meant to help people gather or share appropriate information about a process and not how to circumvent that process. If the moderator is not going to speak out I will because the stigma of being from a "fraudulent "country affects us all. We must be the change we seek it's that simple. Each approved ESTA application generally is valid for two years and allows for multiple visits to the United States within that period without having to apply for another ESTA approval. Travelers whose passports will expire in less than two years will receive an ESTA valid until the passport’s expiration date. As long as you are able to explain convincingly why you are returning on such a short notice I don't forsee any issues.

Firstly, 3 months ago, she wrote the US embassy immigration via email that she wanted to use go and give birth in the USA and she has a visitor B2 visa, but she only got the automatic reply saying they are not available to respond now.
Now, at the POE yesterday, she told the POE her birthing intention and that it is 25weeks, that she is here for holiday and to have her baby.

SO WHAT CAN WE DO PLS ? SHE IS HERE WITH ME AND DEPRESSED.

Thank You all, I just got my Sis from d airport, here is exactly what happened at d POE;

The first thing in my humble opinion will be getting the stories straight . In your initial post you first said she was 32 weeks and now we are reading about 25 weeks. Which is it? I really hope the 32 weeks you mentioned was a mistake because If she isn't 25 weeks but told them she was it's in the system. She can travel to anywhere and back that information will remain in the system and will have to be explained at POE because the dates don't add up...this is why they are always busy typing whatever we say into the system.

I don't come on this thread to spew my personal opinion when it involves U.S immigration. I always include links to the appropriate U.S government website for those who have the time to read through. I just did not see the point of people gambling with something as simple as a consent letter knowing fully well that the U.S. embassy version is accepted in all 50 states and for consent there is no charge.

Why do you like giving false information? This is my second child and all my husband did was go to notarize the form DS -3053 at the nearest court.
I'm not saying it can't be done at the embassy but the embassy is not the only option.

I'm not sure you understand what false information really means. According to the US embassy website in Nigeria that I posted and I quote :

"Note: The only notary public in Nigeria that is recognized in the United States is a U.S. Consular Officer at the Embassy/Consulate" End quote .
If you have a problem with them listing that on their website about their country then let them know .I also clearly stated that anyone is free to use whichever method they choose . But the information i provided remains valid .So, please don't tell me I am giving false information because you don't know me like that ms thang.

It's a uniform process.
