If you are too concerned, you can use 0000, it is accepted for infant passport processing.

It all depends on the post office. The one we used the guy told us point blank to wait until we received the SSN before he could accept our application. Thankfully it came two days later.

Celebrities / Re: Shocking! Popular Yoruba Actress Turns Monster After Using Bleaching Cream *pic by Amother4life: 4:49pm On Oct 04, 2015
akksplendor:
Wonder they say shall never end, that is the adage that aptly illustrate the pity condition of a popular Yoruba actress, who is rumored to have turned a monster after consuming series of peroxide creams. The picture below was leaked to us by a Splendormag reader on bbm, and it was tagged to the name of a star actress who shuttles between Nigeria and UK but we'll leave out her name. She lives at Magodo Estate, Lagos Nigeria. She got into acting in 2002. She was said to have taken the photo with a self-timer camera and sent it to a very close friend on bbm asking for her advice on solution to the bleaching. The friend unfortunately shared it with another friend. Now, the pic is gradually going viral. We want to believe this didn’t happen because of money or fashion but her stupidity, because whether you are dark or light in complexion, you will still be attractive to a real man. So why bleach?

Let's hope she will get the confidence to come out in public soon and by the time she finally comes out and her identity becomes public, remember you read it here first. wink

Nigeria remains the number one importer of bleaching products in the world. These ladies have taken being fake to a whole new level and it's disgusting.
Religion / Re: Pope US Visit Proves Nigerian Pastors Wrong!!! by Amother4life: 4:16pm On Oct 04, 2015
birdman:

I beg to disagree. The pope can request that plane anytime he wants. It is reserved for him. In essence, the state itself has bought a jet for the pope.

Now compare that with a pastor preaching a sermon in one city on saturday night, and another sermon in another time zone the next morning. Obviously driving is not feasible. Neither can you carry all your staff for 4-5 hour wait at the airport every weekend, assuming you can even find a flight when you want. Have you ever flown a 12 hour flight before? What evangelist is going to try a world missions trip lasting a 3 months flying every two to three days. Even Reinhard Bonnke, on moving to the US, needed a private jet. God so kind, he found a preacher that gave it to him for free!

Are there carnal christians and pastors that lust after jets because it is a status symbol? Yeah. But there are also carnal christians, like you, who think all there is to a plane is the status symbol. The plane is a tool. Its very effective for Ceos, vps , presidents because they can get from point a to point b quickly. . And it is a very effective tool for moving significant ministry resources from point a to point b at a moments notice

This is total falsehood. The Pope doesn't have any particular aircraft assigned to him. Aircrafts are leased for the Pope's use during his tours. For instance he used Alitalia for his visit to Cuba and America but returned to Rome in an American flag carrier. Let's not come on social media and spread lies and misinformation just to Garner "likes".

what can I do to fast track the completion to enable me visit my wife, she just delivered and needs me in the US.
There is absolutely nothing you or anyone can do to fast track an AP. In some immigrant cases for example "AP" can last as long as a few weeks to several months. You can only hope they conclude whatever background checks they are carrying out and get back to you in a timely manner.

Hello NL Fam

Its been great fun reading up on the happenings on the forum- never a dull moment cheesy keep it up! These final weeks of waiting can get really trying so im definitely keeping my self entertained and informed thanks to you all

I have a question, ive run out of dollars but have money (Naira) in my gt bank account. Someone advised i use moneygram (or was it moneyorder ) which i can obtain at Walmart and deposit it in my US bank account.

Now i ask all the financial gurus and experienced folks in the house, is this wise? And if so, can someone shed more light on how i can go about it?

I need to pay epidural and pediatrician fees which come up to $1700 and after reading about restrictions on online payment, POS and exchange rate im getting rather concerned.

Thanks

I was able to use gtbank for $1000 money order before things went haywire with the new CBN policy.

Gtbank has reviewed her pos limit severally that I have lost count. Please, call their customer service aka gtconnect and speak to someone knowledgeable to be on the safe side or you will have your transaction declined. The ATM limit is still $300 but not cost effective if you ask me.

Hmmm, i was gonna keep quiet but since this point is being mentioned again i feel i should share my experience on the highlighted. I mentioned staying with family in my last post and for the first week everything went fine. Until last week when i started getting cold vibes, i was being frowned at perpertually. I felt i was in the way so i made myself next to invisible. By sunday my host and i had squashed the issue she said thats the way her face is and i should take it like that. I took it in good faith.

Now, ive not been feeding very well cos their eating habits are very different from mine. They eat things like cereal , oatmeal etc ( i dont eat these things) plus they can decide theyre not even hungry that day.( dont get me wrong theres plenty food at home. They just dont eat) So am i going to say me im eating sha. I cant do that, mama raised me better so i decided to do a bit of grocery shopping yday under the pretext that i had special cravings. You will not believe the reaction i got. My hosts mum was like what did you buy? I told her. She shouted Why? Who asked you? Is there no food at home? I was stunned! I apologized and said not so o that i was just strolling and bought these few items. She said your cousin is going to be very angry with you, im also very angry with you! See me apologizing on top. She said she went out to buy some items that morn and bread was included since i LOVE bread ( so my fears about not feeling free in the kitchen were valid) the next thing she said i should return the items. :ot. I was like i didnt pick up the receipt from the store. The next thing she called my cousin ( who's some months older than me) to report me. I just started weeping profusely. Someone i just squashed issues with another one is propping up for nothing! I felt like a child. Needless to say i called my hubby immediately and weve made other accommodation arrangements. We all know theres no such thing as a free lunch and that why i was trying to help out but it backfired real bad! Whats a girl to do?

I think you made some mistakes. You should have discussed with your host before going out to shop for the house. If you had brought it up with your host that would have helped you figure out if it was a good idea. You could also have asked to follow her when she went shopping and picked your own items. Nothing stops you from giving them money ( they may turn it down) as a sign of appreciation during your first week in the house . If they turn it down atleast they know your heart is in a good place.Going out to shop for your host maybe misconstrued by some as an indictment on their ability to provide for your needs. Others would see nothing wrong with it. That is why having a discussion is imperative to know what would be acceptable with your host. Let's not burn bridges because we may need these folks later in future when our kids return to school. Ma 2 cents.

What a disgrace & what a way to lose her US visa which might even end up in huge fine being meted on her or jail term after court proceedings, because they said that no money was found on her at the time she was caught while trying to leave the shop. Stealing goods worth of 2000usd & after arrest has 2500usd bail bond.

It takes a certain type of person to go to another man's country and engage in such activities. It's possible she has done this before and was successful. Loosing her visa will be the last thing she should worry about. With the anti immigrant rhetoric pervading the U.S she should pray she doesn't meet a Donald Trump Judge. Lagos will definitely cancel her visa with prejudice and a possible lifetime ban may be placed on her.

Hello Wonderful people,

I don't mean to derail the thread, but i have a strong urge to put this word out there. If for any reason you decide to stay with a friend or relative for free instead of getting a paid apartment, try to show some courtesy or love to your hosts. Some of the few things they may appreciate amongst other things;

- Carry some naija foodstuff for them when you're going
- You can assist with $50 for groceries every month depending on your pocket ( drinks, water, tissue paper etc. from Walmart)
- Help them with a reasonably sized bag on your way back to naija for their folks back home.

My close pal who hosted a family free of any charge (Mum and Toddler - approx. 3 months, hubby and new baby - short while) had painful stories to share about their time with her. I choose to believe her because we're about 4 preggo pals that have stayed with her to date

Her guests wash and dry their dirty clothes every night when she has gone to bed despite her telling them to wait till saturdays when she has free electricity.
Not a dime ever spent to buy anything for the house - they will even consume her toddlers small-size juice (snacks for day care) whenever there's no soft drink in the house
According to her - they eat full three square meals (LOL) every single day. If she runs out of meat/ fish for any reason, expect the eggs to begin to evaporate in threes.

Loads of complaints that i don't have the time to type. However, the one that "pained" her the most, was their refusal to help her bring anything down to Nigeria for her folks.

I think a lot of nigerians abroad just love people to help them pick a bag or two when returning to nigeria, it seems as if they look forward to it.

Sounds very ungrateful and unbelievable.

se.

Hi everyone,
Am a firt timer and have been reading ds thread from part 1. Am due december 2015 and I got my visa in April with my family for my sisters graduation which we eventually ddnt go for cos she wasnt giving enough time off work as she is a Doc. in Nigeria here.
1) my sister filled that i wasnt married, which i was as i got married in march.( that is not even wt is bothering me)
2)am planning on having my baby in houston (Dr Fagbohun & Oakbend ) already have email correspondence from them.
3) called the US embassy about my change and they told me over the form that i already have the visa that i do not need to contact them ( gave them my passport information) but the lady directed me to this CBP site where entered a message nd told them that my intention to come to the US has changed but ddnt mention its for childbirth as i expect them to email me for further question which they didnt but rather reply me via mail and said "if my visa allowed me for the purpose am coming for then there is no issue but my enterance is dependent on CBP officer" just like the embassy mention in their reply.
Please note that I was barely a month preg or so when we got the visa in April
My question now is that am scared of sending mail to the embassy of my change of intent ( note that I have not used the visa) as i have read a story in part 1 that som1s visa was recalled or so and another person was called back for interview.
Am planning on travelling with my Mum mid Oct and am not really showing, should I try my luck at POE and if ask about giving then I should spill and show them my Doc mail, money and other information they might ask.
Plus I printed out the mail I received from CBP ppl.
See the picture attached for their response (upper was my mil and below is there response).
So sorry for the long story. Pls I need your response and be nice pls

You sent an email to CBP without including specifics . Obviously they'll send a generic reply to you. I believe you were scared of mentionin your condition but now you will have to face them when you arrive POE. My advice: choose a "friendly " POE to avoid stories that touch the heart. Go with enough cash and your doctors correspondence. Good luck

PS: I hope the lie about not being married doesn't come back to bite you in the a** whenever your hubby decides to also travel to the states.

Congrats & thank God that everything went well, welcome back. Pls I just want to ask what other option u used apart from obtaining Nig visa and Nig passport for your babies to travel home?.Atleast it can be of help for someone on this forum.

I can't think of anything else outside an Emergency Travel Certificate. Funny thing is that according to the immigration laws these are supposed to be issued to citizens who misplaced or had their passports stolen.
This certificate is issued to Nigerians who lose their passport while abroad. This certificate helps them to return to Nigeria. An Emergency Travel Certificate is usually valid for one journey to Nigeria only and must be surrendered to immigration authorities at the port of entry.

Requirements for Obtaining an Emergency Travel Certificate

Proof of citizenship
Police report
Return Ticket to Nigeria

The officer went away with my passport for 2mins and came bk stamp me in without any limitations on number of month in the US

Congrats on your successful POE but there is absolutely nothing like no limitations on a visiting visa. Only immigrants and United States citizens have such privilege. When you are less busy you can find out your limits here:

Malaria in children esp under 5 children is not something to joke with, if they will quarantine your child, pls so be it...so long as he will be okay, act soon so it doesn't get complicated..is he stooling and vomiting? If yes, get him some ORS and make sure u get the temp down with tepid sponging and pcm/tynelol before reaching the hospital, he has to see the paediatrician as many things could cause fever in children, the tonsils will be checked and more.... Don't panic, just do the right thing soon...Waiting for antimalarials from Nigeria will mean starting treatment Monday of Tuesday if he has malaria which is a big NO..

Take it easy...

If it comes to that yes but please realize that the bill you will be given will require oxygen mask before viewing.

Hello Nairaland,I have been a silent follower for a while and decided to join after our visa interview in Lagos. I must commend everyone on this forum,in fact everyone is wonderful. Hubby, son and I applied for visa on 20th of May '15 but were denied,we felt we had a fault cos we were waiting for the visa officer to ask of each document before presenting it but we took courage and went back 2wks after (thks to phema burden of proof) thank God we were issued. NB:this time we were the one presenting all documents to visa officer. Son and I don't have travel record, only hubby has. Also I filled homemaker in my DS-160 form.Fast forward to present: Am presently reporting life from New York, took Turkish airlines, flight was on point (thks to wonderful people on this forum,I made use of wheelchair) got to new York around 6pm ,Poe was very smooth, money was not checked ,no secondary inspection, only by bags were checked because I declared food,my kilishi and potatoes were thrown into the trash bin.All in all,I don't think I spent 15mins in total at JFK. Moving to phoenix next week,am MIHS momma. Thumb up to everyone and God bless. Sorry for the long post

Do you already have an appointment ? If not please read the post below:

I thot mihs had stopped collectjng foreign patients. Find out before leaving new york so that you dont get stranded
Thanks so much,I was so scared when I read your post.I had to pick my phone immediately to call them and I was told the policy is for those that do not have an appointment yet, that my appointment still stands with them and i specifically asked if friends can still come from Nigeria but was told no,that a new policy have been passed.

Hello house! In the spirit of giving back, let me share my POE experience. I bought my ticket at emirates office to chicago but upon reading many poe scary stories i decided to reroute to newyork-chicago despite having all the right documentation, i was trying to avoid any form of delay and stress because i travelled with hubby and my 2 yrs old toddler. This costed about a 100k plus naira for d change and rerouting but i felt it was still better than taking risk. Got to the airport, fit to fly was requested for, i am 34weeks but my doctor wrote 32weeks which i think was best for me to avoid unnecessary questioning. Trip was very stressful (long hours flight plus a cranky toddler). I placed an order for a wheelchair service. I didnt use it at d nigerian airport. On getting to dubai, i requested for a wheelchair but the guy i asked said i wasnt entitled to a wheelchair (that they dont give wheelchair services to pregnant women as the airline might think i am not fit to fly). I felt upset cos i was tired. Boarded from dubai to newyork. On arriving newyork i requested for a wheelchair and they were so glad to give me one. The wheelchair pusher was awesome, he made everything so easy for us. Toddler was on my lap all through. With the wheelchair we were given preference over others. We didnt need to join the very long queue. CBP officer: hi
Me: hi
CBP: wat are u here for
Me: childbirth and vacation
CBP: good. How long are u here
Me:2months
CBP: Anything to declare
Hubby: 8000 dollars (though we had 12k dollars cash and the rest in the account but hubby said he didnt want them to stress us over amount exceeding 10k dollars that was why he said we had 8k dollars)
CBP: ok thats fine. Do u have food stuff
Me: yes we do
CBP stamped us in for 6 months and sent us to agriculture.
He didnt ask for doctors corresponces, letter of change of intent and all burden of proof we had with us.
we got our bags and got to agric.
Agric: wat do u have
Me: nigerian food, egusi, ogbono (meanwhile we had alottttt of food items, egusi ,ogbono, dried fish, stock fish ,wara (fried cheese), garri ,groundnut, crayfish, kulikuli ,dried pap, dried pepper, kilish ,fried snail ,elubo for amala ,chicken maggi, onion indomie, milo, milk cereal for toddler ,custard ) i needed to bring all of these for my host to make dem happy.
so the agric guy transfered us to the screening section. My heart was pounding already. As God would have it the screening guys asked wat we had in our bags(5 checked in bags and 2 hand luggages) I said egusi ogbono. As i was trying to call other names he asked, do u have yam, fruits, i said no. He just said u can go. No screening whatsoever took place. We were super glad. And that was it. I was still on the wheelchair all through. The wheelchair pusher got a cab for us to our hotel room cos we decided to spend the night in newyork. The guy was super awesome, hubby gave him a tip of 20dollars. Left for chicago yest via jetblue. Everything went easy. Got a wheelchair service too, avoided those very long queues. Arrived chicago, got our bags and waited for uncles arrival for pick up.

In all it was a great experience. JFK remains the best. All thanks to God and this forum. I got all information here. U guys are really really wonderful. Getting set for doctors 1st appointment on monday.
Will update as events unfolds. BTW chicagos weather is fantastic!

The money is yours why lie about the amount? Why take such an unnecessary risk? The law allows CBP to seize funds not properly declared . Thank Your stars your were not searched because it would have gone downhill very fast.

And abuse of the system like that will lead to policy change. many Americans pay their own medical bills and we should not abuse their system using every possible loopholes.

If foreigners come to Nigeria to use our services and left without paying we will come out smoking.

You mean the hospitals in Nigeria that want cash deposits before they even attend to you? There is no hospital anywhere in Nigeria that would attend to any foreigner without adequate deposit to cover the cost of treatment . Let's stop openly encouraging people to abuse a system we have the privilege to use So others can also have access in future. It's because of abuses like these that the UK and Ireland erected road blocks to automatic citizenship by birth. Let's keep these activities strictly through private chats. There Was a POE encounter with a CBP officer referencing Nairaland during POE. It would definitely not add to our "good" reputation as a country to be openly enouranging illegality on an open forum .
OP: Please, workout a payment plan to offset whatever bill you get . It doesn't matter how long it takes to pay off but try and do the right thing . It's a WWJD moment.

thanks another life. Is that an authoritative statement.

Everyone who enters an airport, including babies, needs to show some form of ID, but while a government-issued photo ID is required of adults, often a birth certificate will do just fine for infants and children when traveling domestically. For a journey outside the country, however, each passenger, regardless of age, must possess a valid passport. Make sure your infant has the proper ID to board the plane before you reach the airport, or your trip might be cut drastically short. Like I earlier mentioned your U.S citizen baby requires a US passport to leave the country.

A United States citizen must always depart and reenter the country on a US passport.

Beautiful tread I must say.pls pardon me am going to be lengthy. I wld need ur candid advice. I got a B1/B2 visa after two painful refusal sometime in July 2013 although I was a month pregnant and fully aware. The V.O asked if I wld seek medical attention and I said NO, I was so scared if I said YES that I wld b denied again.i heard the golden words "PICK UP UR VISA IN 2 DAYS My destination at the point of the interview was Pennsylvania but I went to Los Angeles b cos I left in Dec and it was so cold to go to that part of the states. I left wit 2 kids (5 yr & 2yr).it was so stressful I must say . EXTREMELY.at the POE I was asked y I was in the U
S and I said for Christmas and was stamped in for 6 months.L.A is extremely expensive I rented an apartment, put my kids in a day care where I paid $250 weekly. Had my baby in march Dr's fee $4,500, hospital $5,000+epidural and a 3 days stay.but my baby was sent to the NICU for one week for an infection where a bill of $48,000 was given. But was given an 81% discount and ended up paying $8,450.90. (I don't wish anyone that NICU experience)i have cleared all payment. My question is my visa expires in July and i want to get it right this time.am i qualified for drop box.if yes do i include all proof of payment. I learnt that on a 2 year visa (not sure) that one has to use it more than once to qualify. I intend travelling with my last baby (the Americana) for two weeks which line do I queue up in at POE. I wish I had know about this thread earlier, I wouldn't have lied at all.

Telling lies is always a bad idea. You may be called for interview during renewal.
As per line to join during POE...VISITORS. Having an American baby doesn't entitle you to join the citizen line. So, to avoid embarrassment respect ya self grin

[s]plus the baby can never become the president of USA. Obama was African but was born in Hawaii.

There are two general ways to obtain citizenship through U.S. citizen parents, one at birth and one after birth but before the age of 18.

Obama could still have run for office because his mother was a United States citizen. So, he had no business using the lottery or any other type of shenanigans to move to the United States. That's why you have the CRBA process at every American embassy. There is a man currently running for the office of President by name Ted Cruz.
