It's always easy attacking a policy when the media chooses to present it alone. When people get the full picture of what had been happening in jigawa, this doesn't seem like that much of a bad policy, in fact it's an old one, left uncompleted by the old government. All the mosques in the state were built in the 90s, they have all rot away, Jigawa is usually a travelers passing state, with people going from kano to Maiduguri or otherwise(bauchi, jos, katsina Niger republic etc) camping there to pray and refresh, spend the night, etc but the conditions of the mosques are bad, if done in a nice way, these mosques won't just be places of worship, but hubs of business and interaction and scholarship, stops for travelers etc. Our problem is we view things from prisms that blind us. In western countries they have gas stations With motels on highways at strategic locations, why can't we have that too, and since our religions require us to pray more than we use the toilet, even on journeys, we combine the two. But it's easier mocking the whole thing, and assuming that the government is not working on anything else. |

Ibn aj-Jawzee (rahimahullaah) says: “If you fall into a hardship that is hard to be free from, you can’t (do anything) but make du’aa and take refuge in Allaah, after repenting from sins, because sins necessitate punishment, so if they disappear by repentance from them, the reason (for punishment) is lifted. So if you repented and made du’aa, and did not see any trace of response, then look into your affair. Maybe the repentence was not sound, so correct it then make du’aa and don’t become tired of making du’aa. Maybe the good is in delaying the response, and maybe the good is not in responding, so you will be rewarded and responded by being referred to what benefits you, and it would be beneficial for you to not be given what you requested, but rather to be given other than it as a replacement. So if iblees comes and says: ‘How much did you call upon Him and did not see any response?’ Then say: ‘I worship (Allaah) by making du’aa, and I am certain that the answer will come. But maybe its delay is due to some good, and even if it doesn’t happen, worship and humility takes place.’ So take care not to ask for something except by combining it with asking for that which is good, because the occurrence of many a wish from the dunyaa was a cause for destruction.” Sayd ul-Khaatir; Chapter 249, p. 343 |

A Makurdi Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded a cleric, Elijah Ebimone, in prison for allegedly abducting three girls and turning them to sex slaves. Ebimone, 32, is facing a two-count charge of abduction and causing miscarriage, punishable under Sections 274 and 233 of the Penal Code, Laws of Benue State, 2004. The Magistrate, Theresa Wergba, ordered the remand of the accused and adjourned the matter till December 28 for further mention. Her action followed the application for adjournment made by the prosecutor, Daniel Suende, who said that investigation by the police was ongoing. Mr. Suende, a police inspector, told the court that a team of detectives led by Attai Sule, attached to the State CID, Makurdi, received information about the activities of the cleric on October 20. He said that the detectives immediately launched an investigation into the matter and arrested the accused. The prosecutor said that Mr. Ebimone, who claimed to be a prophet, had been abducting young girls and using them as sex slaves. He said that the cleric went all the way to Delta last June and abducted Victory Mieturda, Dolor Dinah and Esther Young and brought them to Makurdi. Mr. Suende said that the man had deceived the girls’ parents into believing that he was assisting the girls to travel to Ukraine to seek greener pasture. “However, they got to Makurdi and he turned them into sex slaves impregnating all of them at different times and also causing them to miscarry the pregnancies,’’ the prosecutor said. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that when the case was called, the court did not take the plea of the accused because it lacked jurisdiction. https://www.today.ng/news/nigeria/205075/cleric-abducts-three-women-turns-slaves-police |

Vanguard Media Limited, Nigeria By Taboola Girls in Aba start sex at age 10 , research shows ON October 27, 2016 7:02 PM / IN News / Comments A medical practitioner, Dr Godwin Uwaoma, said on Monday that girls in Aba, Abia engage in active sexual activities from the age of 10, raising higher chances of contracting HIV. Uwaoma, the Chairman of the Thematic Working Group at the Nigerian Faith Based Advisory Council for AIDS (NFACA), told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Aba that a 2014 research revealed the development. He said that the study was conducted to find out the awareness of preventive measures among youths in the secondary schools for the Department of Public Health at the Imo State University. “We discovered that some girls in Aba start sexual activities at the age 10 to 12 and that at the age of 12, girls in Aba have “regular boyfriends” with whom they agree to have sex regularly. “This was not known before. Usually HIV prevention was targeted at age 15 upward but we now know that before 15 they have become sexually active. “And there is a lot of difference between when you are forced into it and you remove yourself thereafter and when at this age you now have a regular partner. “That was what we discovered and it is not normal but an aberration but obviously the fact is there,” he said. At a lecture organised by the Aba chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) to mark their week, Uwaoma called for prevention rather than cure which was unavailable for HIV cases. He urged the students to desist from watching pornographic films, playing sexual games with opposite sex and keeping bad friends to save them from sexual temptations. In another lecture titled “Sex and Puberty,” Dr Kenneth Ngwogu, a lecturer at the Abia State University, said that puberty brought changes in character and body composition to young people. Noting that most youths ruined their lives through dangerous actions like early sex, Ngwogu urged them to consult doctors or adults to manage the challenges of puberty. He charged the youth to desist from sexual activities which could refocus their attention while in school to reach their goals of becoming successful people. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/10/girls-aba-start-sex-age-10-research-shows/ |

The Arab Race – Shaykh al-Albaani (rahimahullaah) April 19, 2011 source: silsilat ul-ahaadeeth idh-dha’eefa – the series of weak narrations – hadeeth no. 163 ~ “If the Arabs are humiliated, Islaam is also humiliated” – grading of hadeeth: mawdoo’ (fabricated) Shaykh al-Albaani (rahimahullaah) comments: “The glory of Islaam is not connected with Arabs only; rather Allaah may give it glory by other than them from the believers, as that happened during the time of the Ottoman Empire especially in its beginning. So Allaah had given glory to Islaam through them until its authority spread to the middle of Europe. Then, when they started to abandon the Sharee’ah (Islamic Legislation) and incline toward the European laws – taking that which is lower in exchange for that which is better – their authority diminished from those countries and others until it had disappeared from their (own) countries as well! Hence, only something little remained there of the manifestations that could indicate their Islaam! So by that, all of the Muslims were humiliated after their glory, and the disbelievers entered most of their countries and concentrated on humiliating them. And even if these (countries) were apparently freed from (the disbelievers’) colonization, they colonize them in secret under the screen of many projects such as the economy and the like! Therefore, it is established that Islaam is given glory and humiliated by the glory and humiliation of its people whether they are Arabs or non-Arabs, and ‘there is no superiority of an Arab over a non-Arab except by taqwaa.’[1] So O Allaah! Give glory to the Muslims and inspire them to return to Your Book and the Sunnah of Your Prophet [sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam] until You give glory to Islaam by them. However, that does not negate the Arab race being better than the race of the rest of the nations; rather, this is what I believe in – even though I am Albanian but indeed I am Muslim, all praises and thanks are to Allaah – because the precedence of the Arab race that I have mentioned is that which ahl us-sunnah wal jamaa’ah[2] are upon, and a group of mentioned narrations about this matter indicates (this), such as (the Prophet’s) (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) statement: ‘…Indeed Allaah chose Bani Kinaanah from the offspring of Ismaa’eel, and chose Quraysh from Bani Kinaanah, and chose Bani Haashim from Quraysh, and chose me from Bani Haashim.’[3] But this should not cause the Arab to boast of his race – because it is from the affairs of jaahiliyyah which our Prophet Muhammad (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), the Arab, had abolished, as clarified earlier – just as we should not be ignorant of the reason why the Arabs deserve precedence, which is what they were distinguished with in regard to their understanding, language, manners and works, and that qualified them to be the carriers of the Islamic da’wah to the other nations. So indeed if the Arab knows this and follows it, it will enable him to be – like his predecessors – a righteous member in carrying the Islamic da’wah. As for if he gives that up, then he doesn’t have any excellence at all; rather, the non-Arab who possesses the Islaamic manners is better than him no doubt, since true excellence is only following the eemaan (faith) and knowledge with which Muhammad (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) was sent. So whoever is stronger in it, he is better. And excellence is only by defined names in the Book and the Sunnah, such as Islaam, eemaan (faith), birr (righteousness), taqwaa, knowledge, righteous deeds, ihsaan and the like, and (it is) not by a person merely being an Arab or non-Arab, as Shaykh ul-Islaam ibn Taimiyah (rahimahullaah) said, and this is what (the Prophet) (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) pointed out with his saying: ‘Whoever’s deeds slow him down, his lineage will not make him go faster.’ Muslim narrated it. In summary: Indeed the excellence of the Arabs is only due to virtues that are realized amongst them, but if (these virtues) disappear because of their negligence of their Islaam, their excellence will also disappear, and whoever from the non-Arabs adheres to (these virtues) will be better than them; ‘there is no superiority of the Arab over the non-Arab except by taqwaa.’ Therefore, the going astray of the one who calls to Arabism becomes clear, (who calls to it) while he does not possess any of its excellent characteristics at all; rather, he is a European inwardly and outwardly!” [1] piety and fear of Allaah [2] those who adhere to that which the Prophet (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and his Companions were upon with regard to ‘aqeedah (belief), manhaj (methodology) and all other matters of the religion [3] Saheeh at-Tirmithee #3606 Source : asaheeha translations |

The head of an international criminal network behind fraud totaling more than $60m was arrested in Nigeria in June 2016. The 40-year-old Nigerian male was found in Port Harcourt as the result of a global investigation led by Interpol. Such crime “poses a significant and growing threat, with tens of thousands of companies victimised in recent years,” Noboru Nakatani, executive director of the Interpol Global Complex for Innovation, warned in a statement. Now viewed as a more serious security threat than even terrorism, cyber attacks and data breaches are now considered the leading risk to businesses today. Nigeria’s National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) estimates that the local population lost $450 million to digital fraud in 2015. Meanwhile, cyber fraud attempts in the country in the first half of 2016 are reported to have increased by 1,000 times. Nigeria’s cybercrime act was finally voted into law in May 2015, which defined the legal consequences faced by individuals and corporations found to be in violation of the law. However, many are questioning whether the government and corporations are doing enough to keep cyber threats at bay, and ensure the security of the population. The website of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was hacked on the day of the 2015 presidential election. Then, the Lagos state government suffered a major breach in December 2015. Tope Aladenusi, Partner at Deloitte Nigeria, says that the cybercrime act “is a welcome development but many key stakeholders such as the judiciary and law enforcement agencies are yet to come up to speed in understanding and implementing the act.” Boasting the largest growth in Internet usage in Africa – from 23.9 million in 2008 to 82.1 million in 2015 – arguably no country on the continent is at greater risk than Nigeria. Aladenusi cautioned that, “the advent of cyber as a weapon of warfare is rapidly gaining momentum and Nigeria is not immune to such threats. It is only a matter of time before it becomes full blown.” Government policymakers and corporations worldwide by and large share these sentiments as threats increase in size and scope. On 8 October, the US formally accused Russia of hacking the Democratic Party’s computer networks. Then on 21 October, a major DDoS cyber attack in the US caused outages on a slew of websites including Twitter, Spotify, Amazon, Reddit, Yelp, Netflix and The New York Times. Recent major hacks on high profile companies including Yahoo, Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Vera Bradley have wreaked considerable damage on the corporate world resulting in heightened fears globally. Commenting on the Yahoo attack that affected 500 million accounts – allegedly one of biggest thefts of online users’ personal information ever – Michael Bittan, a risk manager at Deloitte, cautioned that it was “the biggest to be made public. There have possibly been others that were bigger”. A recent study by PwC found that the number of global cyber security incidents across all industries rose by 38% in 2015 – the biggest increase in the 12 years since the study was first published. Spending on cyber security worldwide will rise from $73.7 billion in 2016 to $101.6 billion by the start of the next decade, according to new research released in early October by the International Data Corporation. The US government alone currently spends about $10 billion a year on IT security, and is set to increase this substantially. The non-existence of a Nigerian national policy on information security or even guidelines on monitoring and censoring internet content will make cyber security a difficult task for both the local government and corporations to tackle in years to come. http://hubs.ly/H04RvXg0 |
*Explanation of Shaykh Salih Al-Fawzan On The Concise Commentary On The Book of Tawhid.* *Translated by Arabia for Information Technology, Cairo.* *Chapter 41: Attributing Equals to Allah.* *Allah, Exalted be He, says:* “…So do not attribute to Allah equals while you know (that there is nothing similar to Him).” (Quran: Al-Baqarah: 22) In his comment on the verse, *Ibn Abbas says*: “Attributing equals to Allah is an act of polytheism more hidden than the movement of ants on a smooth rock in the darkness of night. One commits that act of polytheism when saying, “By Allah and by your life, O you so-and-so, or ‘By my life’ Moreover, one commits an act polytheism when saying, ‘Had it not been for the little dog of so-and-so, we would have been stolen, or ‘Had it not been for the ducks in the house, we would have been stolen.’ Similarly, an act of polytheism is also committed when a man says to another. ‘By the will of Allah and yours…’ One more example of committing an act of polytheism is when someone says to another, ‘Had it not been for Allah and you…’ So, never associate others with Allah in such utterances as all of the aforesaid is nothing but polytheism.” (Related by Ibn Abu Hatim) *Relevance of the Chapter to the Book of Tawhid:* One of the corollaries of monotheism is to avoid utterances that imply associating partners with Allah, even if one does not intend so. As such, the author elaborates in this chapter on some of such prohibited utterances to help people avoid them and the like. *General Meaning of the Quranic Verse:* In this verse, Allah, Blessed and Exalted be He, prohibits people from setting created beings up as equal to Allah by attributing to them acts which are exclusive to Him, while the knot that Allah is the Only Creator and Provide, and that those equals are helpless and incompetent even to dispose their own affairs as they will. The utterances quoted by Ibn Abbas provide examples of the practice of attributing equals to Allah. Though the aforementioned verse is revealed in regard to major polytheism and though these utterances entail minor polytheism, they are included in the verse, for the Salaf used to provide legal evidences on minor polytheism out of those attesting to major polytheism. *Lessons Drawn from the Quranic Verse:* • Muslims are warned against commiting polytheism in acts of worship • Polytheists acknowledge tawhid Ar-Rububiyyah (The Oneness of Allah’s Lordship) • Minor polytheism is so hidden that only few can perceive it • Muslim are enjoined to avoid utterances that entail polytheism, even if polytheism is not Intented. *Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah salallahu alayhi wa salam said*: “He who swears by anything besides Allah is guilty of an act of disbelief or polytheism.” (Related by At-Tirmidhi, who graded it hasan, but Al-Hakim graded it sahih) *General Meaning of the Hadith*: This hadith implies a prohibition against swearing by anyone other than Allah, and deems that oath to be an act of setting a created being up as a partner to Allah and an act of disbelief in Allah. The reason is that swearing by a being is a means of exalting it while Allah is actually the only One worthy of exaltation. So, swearing must be exclusively by Allah or any of His Sublime Attributes. *Relavance of the Hadith to the Chapter*: The hadith indicates that swearing by anyone other than Allah is an act of setting a created being up as a rival to Him *Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said*: “To swear falsely by Allah (however forbidden) is better for me than truly swearing by any one other than Him.” *General Meaning of the Hadith*: Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) states that he prefers swearing falsely by Allah to swearing truthfully by any one other than Him. Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said so on the basis that swearing by Allah falsely implies the virtue of adhering to monotheism together with the vice of lying, while swearing truthfully by anyone other than Allah implies the merit of telling the truth but the sin of committing polytheism. Needless to say, the virtue of adhering to monotheism is greater than the virtue of telling the truth, and the sin of lying is less than that of committing polytheism. *Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa salam said:* “Do not say, ‘If Allah wills and so-and-so wills,’ but say, ‘If Allah wills and then so-and-so wills” (Related by Abu Dawud with an authentic chain of transmitters) *Ibrahim An-Nakh’I said:* “It is detestable for one to say, ‘I seek refuge with Allah and you.’ However, it is permissible to say, ‘I seek refuge with Allah and then you’” He also said, “it is permissible for one to say, ‘Had it not been for Allah and then so-and-so…,’ and impermissible to say, ‘Had it not been for Allah and so-and-so…’” *General Mening of the Hadith* In this hadith the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa salam prohibits Muslims from coupling a name of a creature with that of the Creator by means of the conjunction *‘and’* when talking about Allah’s will and the like. The reason is that using *‘and’* signifies equivalence between the two coupled items, not succession, and thus such an utterance entails polytheism. However, the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa salam permits coupling a created being with the Creator by the conjunction *’then’* which signifies succession. The aforementioned tradition given by An’Nakh’I signifies the same meaning of the hadith. Legally speaking, seeking refuge with a creature is restricted to the living one who can help, not the dead who is helpless, Thus, it is not permissible to invoke dead persons in order to do something. *Relavance of the Hadith and Tradition to the Chapter* Both the aforementioned hadith and tradition stress the prohibition of uttering the statement, *“if Allah wills and so-and-so wills”* and suchlike statements as they imply setting a created being up as an equal to Allah. Such a heinous act of polytheism has been warned against in the verse stated at the beginning of this chapter as interpreted by Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him). |

The insignificance of this World - Jâbir ibn ’Abdullâh: The Messenger of Allâh sallallâhu ’alayhi wa sallam passed by the market place coming from the direction of ‘Âliyah and people were around him. He passed by a dead kid goat (i.e. a baby goat) which had very short ears. He held it by its ears and said: “Who amongst you would like to have this for a dirham?” They (the Companions) said: We would not want it even for less than that! What can we do with it? He said: “Do you wish to have it (for any price)?” They said: By Allâh, even if it were alive it (we would not want it), as it has very short ears, let alone now when it is also dead! The Messenger of Allâh sallallâhu ’alayhi wa sallam said: “By Allâh, this world is more insignificant to Allâh than this (goat) is to you all.” [23] Sahl ibn Sa’d said that the Messenger of Allâh sallallâhu ’alayhi wa sallam said: “If this world was worth as much to Allâh as the wing of a mosquito, He would not have given a disbeliever even a sip of water.” [28] Salmân said: Some people came to the Prophet sallallâhu ’alayhi wa sallam and he asked them: “Do you have food?” They said: Yes. He asked: “Do you have drink?” They said: Yes. He said: “Verily their outcome is like the outcome of this world, one of you stands behind his house holding his nose from their bad smell.” This is the similitude of this world. What is the eventual outcome of food and drink? They change to stool and urine. Therefore, a person hates the smell for himself. This is the similitude of the outcome of this World. Ubayy ibn Ka’b said that the Messenger of Allâh sallallâhu ’alayhi wa sallam said: “Indeed the food of the son of Âdam is like the example of the world. Even if he puts spices and season into it, see what becomes of it.” [29] source/references: https://abdurrahman.org/2014/01/27/righteous-action/ |

"Praise be to Allaah and blessings and peace be upon His Messenger and Chosen Prophet. Tawheed in Arabic means attributing Oneness to Allaah and describing Him as being One and Unique, with no partner or peer in His Essence and Attributes. The Arabs say waahid, ahad and waheed, all meaning one. Allaah is Waahid, meaning that He has no rivals or peers in any way. So Tawheed means knowing Allaah is One, with none like unto Him. Whoever does not acknowledge Allaah in these terms and does not describe Him as being One with no partner or associate does not believe in Tawheed. With regard to the shar’i definition of Tawheed, it means believing in Allaah alone as God and Lord and attributing to Him alone all the attributes of Lordship and divinity. It may be defined as follows: Believing that Allaah is One with no partner or associate in His Lordship (ruboobiyyah), divinity (uloohiyyah) or names and attributes (al-asma’ wa’l-sifaat). This word (Tawheed) and its derivatives are used with this meaning in the Qur’aan and Sunnah. For example: Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “Say (O Muhammad): He is Allaah, (the) One [Ahad]. 2. Allaah‑us‑Samad [Allaah — the Self‑Sufficient Master, Whom all creatures need, (He neither eats nor drinks)]. 3. He begets not, nor was He begotten. 4. And there is none co‑equal or comparable unto Him” [al-Ikhlaas 112:1-3] “And your Ilaah (God) is One Ilaah [ilaahun waahidun] (God — Allaah), Laa Ilaaha illa Huwa (there is none who has the right to be worshipped but He), the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful” [al-Baqarah 2:163] “Surely, disbelievers are those who said: ‘Allaah is the third of the three (in a Trinity).’ But there is no Ilaah (god) (none who has the right to be worshipped) but One Ilaah [ilaahun waahidun] (God —Allaah). And if they cease not from what they say, verily, a painful torment will befall on the disbelievers among them” [al-Maa'idah 5:73] And there are many similar verses. In Saheeh al-Bukhaari (7372) and Saheeh Muslim (19) it is narrated that Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) sent Mu’aadh ibn Jabal to Yemen, he said to him: “You are going to people from among the People of the Book, so let the first thing to which you call them be belief in Allaah alone (Tawheed). If they accept that, then tell them that Allaah has enjoined on them five prayers every day and night. If they pray then tell them that Allaah has enjoined on them zakaah from their wealth to be taken from their rich and given to their poor. If they agree to that then take it from them but avoid the best of people’s wealth.” In Saheeh Muslim it is narrated from Ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Islam is built on five (pillars): belief that Allaah is One, establishing regular prayer, paying zakaah, fasting Ramadaan and Hajj.” What is meant by Tawheed in all these texts is affirming the meaning of the testimony that there is no god but Allaah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah, which is the essence of the religion of Islam with which Allaah sent His Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), based on the evidence of the words of the Qur’aan and Sunnah. In some versions of the hadeeth of Mu’aadh quoted above it says: “You will come to some people from among the People of the Book so when you come to them, call them to bear witness that there is no god except Allaah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1492. According to another version of the hadeeth of Ibn ‘Umar: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Islam is based on five (pillars): the testimony that there is no god except Allaah and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger...” Narrated by Muslim, 16. This indicates that Tawheed is the essence of the testimony that there is no god except Allaah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah, and that this is Islam with which Allaah sent His Prophet to the two races of mankind and the jinn, other than which Allaah will not accept any religion from anyone. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “Truly, the religion with Allaah is Islam” [Aal ‘Imraan 3:19] “And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers” [Aal ‘Imraan 3:85] Once this is understood, it should be noted that the scholars have divided Tawheed into three categories, as follows: Tawheed al-Ruboobiyyah (Oneness of Divine Lordship), Tawheed al-Uloohiyyah (Oneness of Divinity) and Tawheed al-Asma’ wa’l-Sifaat (Oneness of the Divine Names and Attributes). Tawheed al-Ruboobiyyah (Oneness of Divine Lordship): means believing in Allaah as One and Unique with regard to His actions such as creation, sovereignty, control, giving life and death, and so on. There is a great deal of evidence to support this in the Qur’aan and Sunnah. Whoever believes that there is any creator other than Allaah or any sovereign controlling this universe and disposing of its affairs other than Allaah has denied this aspect of Tawheed and disbelieved in Allaah. The kuffaar of old accepted this aspect of Tawheed in general terms, although they differed with regard to some of its details. The evidence that they used to accept this is to be found in several verses of the Qur’aan such as the following (interpretation of the meaning): “And if you were to ask them: ‘Who has created the heavens and the earth and subjected the sun and the moon?’ they will surely reply: ‘Allaah.’ How then are they deviating (as polytheists and disbelievers)?” [al-‘Ankaboot 29:61] “And if you were to ask them: ‘Who sends down water (rain) from the sky, and gives life therewith to the earth after its death?’ they will surely reply: ‘Allaah.’ Say: ‘All the praises and thanks be to Allaah!’ Nay, most of them have no sense” [al-‘Ankaboot 29:63] “And if you ask them who created them, they will surely say: ‘Allaah.’ How then are they turned away (from the worship of Allaah Who created them)?” [al-Zukhruf 43:87] In these verses Allaah states that the kuffaar affirm that He is the Creator, Sovereign and Controller, but despite that they do not worship Him alone (Tawheed of worship), which points to the graveness of their wrongdoing and lies, and the weakness of their reasoning. For if there is One Who is described in such terms, none should be worshipped except Him alone and none should be described as being one and unique except Him; may He be glorified above those that they associate with him. So whoever affirms this Tawheed in the true sense must inevitably also affirm the Oneness of Allaah’s Divinity (Tawheed al-Uloohiyyah). Tawheed al-Uloohiyyah means devoting all acts of worship, both inward and outward, in word and deed, to Allaah Alone, and not worshipping anything or anyone other than Allaah, no matter who he is. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him” [al-Isra’ 17:23] “Worship Allaah and join none with Him (in worship)” [al-Nisa’ 4:36] It may be described as devoting all one’s actions to Allaah alone. It is called Tawheed al-Uloohiyyah because it is based on ta’alluh lillaah which is worship and devotion of Allaah accompanied by love and veneration. It is also called Tawheed al-‘Ibaadah (oneness of worship) because it means that a person worships Allaah by doing that which He has commanded and avoiding that which He has forbidden. It is also called Tawheed al-Talab wa’l-Qasd wa’l-Iraadah (Oneness of goal, purpose and will) because it means that a person does not seek anything except the Face of Allaah, so he worships Him sincerely. This is the kind of Tawheed concerning which people went astray, which is why the Prophets were sent and the Books were revealed. This is the purpose for which the universe was created and laws were prescribed. Concerning this disputes arose between the Prophets and their peoples, so the stubborn were doomed and the believers were saved. Whoever goes astray with regard to this Tawheed, such as devoting some of his worship to someone other than Allaah, has gone beyond the pale of Islam and drifted away from true belief. May Allaah protect us from that. With regard to Tawheed al-Asma’ wa’l-Sifaat (Oneness of the Divine Names and Attributes), this means affirming the names and attributes of Allaah and believing that there is none like unto Allaah in His names and attributes. This Tawheed is based on two principles: 1 – Affirmation: i.e., affirming that which Allaah has affirmed for Himself in His Book or that His Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) has affirmed of His beautiful names and sublime attributes in a manner that suits the Majesty and Greatness of Allaah, without distorting them, twisting their meanings, denying their reality or discussing how they are. 2 – Denial: i.e., denying that Allaah has any faults and denying any shortcomings that He has denied Himself. The evidence for that is the words of Allaah (interpretation of the meaning): “There is nothing like Him, and He is the All‑Hearer, the All‑Seer” [al-Shoora 42:11] So He has denied that He bears any resemblance to His creation, and affirmed that He has attributes of perfection in a manner that befits Him, may He be glorified." The Narrations Of The Black Flags By Shaykh al Allama al Muhaddith Nasiruddeen al Albani (Rahimahullah) (Eng Subtitled Audio) Question: There are some hadith in which we are commanded to follow an army carrying black flags from Khorasan, and therefore we should pledge allegiance to some armed groups carrying black flags we see today. Are these hadith authentic? Answer: In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful The prophetic traditions which mention the appearance of black banners (rayatun sudun) are all weak and inauthentic. As such, we cannot accept them as evidence in matters of Islamic creed in which we must believe. Muslims should not be fooled by groups carrying black banners intending to attribute themselves to the righteous ruler Al-Mahdi, but rather such groups must be judged on the basis of their actions, not the color of the flags they wave. First, there is the hadith attributed to Abu Huraira in which the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, supposedly said: ﺗَﺨْﺮُﺝُ ﻣِﻦْ ﺧُﺮَﺍﺳَﺎﻥَ ﺭَﺍﻳَﺎﺕٌ ﺳُﻮﺩٌ ﻟَﺎ ﻳَﺮُﺩُّﻫَﺎ ﺷَﻲْﺀٌ ﺣَﺘَّﻰ ﺗُﻨْﺼَﺐَ ﺑِﺈِﻳﻠِﻴَﺎﺀَ Black standards will come from Khorasan, nothing shall turn them back until they are planted in Jerusalem. Source: Sunan At-Tirmidhi 2269 This tradition was declared weak by At-Tirmidhi himself in his commentary on it, by Ibn Hajar in Al-Qawl Al-Musaddid 1/53, by Ahmad Shakir in his verification of Musnad Ahmad 16/316, and by Al-Albani in Silsilat Ad-Da’eefah 4825. Second, there is the hadith attributed to Abdullah ibn Mas’ud in which the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, supposedly said: ﻭَﺇِﻥَّ ﺃَﻫْﻞَ ﺑَﻴْﺘِﻲ ﺳَﻴَﻠْﻘَﻮْﻥَ ﺑَﻌْﺪِﻱ ﺑَﻼَﺀً ﻭَﺗَﺸْﺮِﻳﺪًﺍ ﻭَﺗَﻄْﺮِﻳﺪًﺍ ﺣَﺘَّﻰ ﻳَﺄْﺗِﻲَ ﻗَﻮْﻡٌ ﻣِﻦْ ﻗِﺒَﻞِ ﺍﻟْﻤَﺸْﺮِﻕِ ﻣَﻌَﻬُﻢْ ﺭَﺍﻳَﺎﺕٌ ﺳُﻮﺩٌ ﻓَﻴَﺴْﺄَﻟُﻮﻥَ ﺍﻟْﺨَﻴْﺮَ ﻓَﻼَ ﻳُﻌْﻄَﻮْﻧَﻪُ ﻓَﻴُﻘَﺎﺗِﻠُﻮﻥَ ﻓَﻴُﻨْﺼَﺮُﻭﻥَ ﻓَﻴُﻌْﻄَﻮْﻥَ ﻣَﺎ ﺳَﺄَﻟُﻮﺍ ﻓَﻼَ ﻳَﻘْﺒَﻠُﻮﻧَﻪُ ﺣَﺘَّﻰ ﻳَﺪْﻓَﻌُﻮﻫَﺎ ﺇِﻟَﻰ ﺭَﺟُﻞٍ ﻣِﻦْ ﺃَﻫْﻞِ ﺑَﻴْﺘِﻲ The people of my Household will face calamity, expulsion and exile after I am gone, until some people will come from the east carrying black banners. They will ask for something good but will not be given it. Then they will fight and will be victorious, then they will be given what they wanted, but they will not accept it and will give leadership to a man from my family. Source: Sunan Ibn Majah 4082 Ibn Al-Qayyim declares this tradition to be weak in Al-Manar Al-Munif 116 on account of the sub-narrator Yazid ibn Abi Ziyad whose skills of memorization were deficient. Adh-Dhahabi declares the tradition to be inauthentic in Mizan Al-I’tidal 4/423 and Al-Albani declares it rejected (munkar) in Silsilat Ad-Da’eefah 5203. Third, there is the tradition attributed to Thawban in which the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, supposedly said: ﻳَﻘْﺘَﺘِﻞُ ﻋِﻨْﺪَ ﻛَﻨْﺰِﻛُﻢْ ﺛَﻼَﺛَﺔٌ ﻛُﻠُّﻬُﻢُ ﺍﺑْﻦُ ﺧَﻠِﻴﻔَﺔٍ ﺛُﻢَّ ﻻَ ﻳَﺼِﻴﺮُ ﺇِﻟَﻰ ﻭَﺍﺣِﺪٍ ﻣِﻨْﻬُﻢْ ﺛُﻢَّ ﺗَﻄْﻠُﻊُ ﺍﻟﺮَّﺍﻳَﺎﺕُ ﺍﻟﺴُّﻮﺩُ ﻣِﻦْ ﻗِﺒَﻞِ ﺍﻟْﻤَﺸْﺮِﻕِ ﻓَﻴَﻘْﺘُﻠُﻮﻧَﻚُﻡْ ﻗَﺘْﻼً ﻟَﻢْ ﻳُﻘْﺘَﻠْﻪُ ﻗَﻮْﻡٌ Three will fight one another for your treasure, each one of them the son of a caliph, but none of them will gain it. Then the black banners will come from the east, and they will kill you in an unprecedented manner. Then it is mentioned that Thawban said: ﺛُﻢَّ ﺫَﻛَﺮَ ﺷَﻴْﺌًﺎ ﻻَ ﺃَﺣْﻔَﻈُﻪُ Thereafter, the Prophet mentioned some things I did not memorize. And the tradition continues: ﻓَﺈِﺫَﺍ ﺭَﺃَﻳْﺘُﻤُﻮﻩُ ﻓَﺒَﺎﻳِﻌُﻮﻩُ ﻭَﻟَﻮْ ﺣَﺒْﻮًﺍ ﻋَﻠَﻰ ﺍﻟﺜَّﻠْﺞِ ﻓَﺈِﻧَّﻪُ ﺧَﻠِﻴﻔَﺔُ ﺍﻟﻠَّﻪِ ﺍﻟْﻤَﻬْﺪِﻱُّ When you see them, then pledge your allegiance to them even if you have to crawl over the snow, for that is the caliph of Allah, Al-Mahdi. Source: Sunan Ibn Majah 4084 Adh-Dhahabi declares the tradition to be rejected (munkar) in Mizan Al-I’tidal 3/128, as well as Al-Albani in Silsilat Ad-Da’eefah 85. Ibn Al-Qayyim says in Al-Manar Al-Munif 115 that the sub-narrator Ali ibn Zaid is weak and his traditions have been rejected. Throughout history, groups of Muslims have used such traditions and symbols like the black flag to attribute themselves to Al-Mahdi, a righteous ruler who will appear near the end of time. Perhaps among the first to do so was the Abbasid dynasty who carried black banners and referred to their Caliphs as Al-Mahdi in an attempt to legitimize their rule. Likewise in modern times was the insurgency of Juhayman Al-Otaybi in 1979 wherein his followers violated the sanctities of Islam by attacking and killing the Muslims of Masjid Al-Haram in Mecca. They declared that a man among them was the promised Al-Mahdi and therefore Muslims were obligated to support their violent rebellion. In the same way, we expect impostors and pretenders to continue using weak traditions and specious arguments to deceive ignorant Muslims into supporting their misguided ambitions. Rather, any group that calls to Islam must be judged by the actions of its members and the character of its leaders. Those who declare ordinary Muslims to be unbelievers, justify spilling their blood, and seizing their property have nothing to do with Islam even if they recite the Quran and carry Islamic symbols. Indeed, it has been authentically reported that the Khawarij sect recites the Quran, yet they are the worst of the creation and the dogs of Hellfire. Such is the abomination of those who have taken the blessed seal of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and turned it into a symbol of terrorism in the eyes of the world. We must protect ourselves, our families, and our communities from such propaganda by holding fast to the scholars whose piety and knowledge are well known, and in Allah we seek refuge. Success comes from Allah, and Allah knows best. ====================== Likewise in modern times was the insurgency of Juhayman Al-Otaybi in 1979 wherein his followers violated the sanctities of Islam by attacking and killing the Muslims of Masjid Al-Haram in Mecca.
