The economic recession is keeping Nigerians busy as focus shifted to daily survival to the extent that we carry on unaware of threat greater than hunger and deprivation. The Islamic Republic of Iran. There it is. The threat greater than the prospect of starvation. Yet Nigerians who do not identify this country as a threat to the future of our fatherland can be forgiven. The last consciousness we have of Iran was when President Muhammadu Buhari went on an official trip to Tehran, the Iranian capital to attend the third edition of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF). That visit was widely construed by members of the public that we enjoy excellent relations with the Islamic Republic. The layman can be pardoned for holding such view but it would be suicidal for Nigeria if those in government, particularly those in our diplomatic circle live with such delusion. There are instances that would justify being so deluded but we must never fall for that trap for once. Of course there was that picture of Iranian Foreign Minister, Dr Mohammad Javad Zarif and the Ambsaddor to Nigeria, Morteza Rahimi Zarchi in a photo op with President Buhari in Abuja and that was as recently as July this year. One can only hope that our diplomats see to it that such events do not go beyond the phot ops that they are. Iran may be cosying up to the Nigerian government with all the touchy-feely diplomacy that would only deliver a poisoned kiss in the final episode. The Islamic Republic may be posing as Nigeria’s ally but the reality is that it is using our country as the launch-pad for its ambitious goal of spreading Shiism across the world having failed in the Middle East where several of its attempts ended in fiasco. So far, it has found a non-resistant host for the virus of state sponsored terrorism it is peddling in Nigeria. In 2013, the military intelligence discovered a large cache of arms and ammunitions in a warehouse in the Bompai area of Kano, the Kano State capital. Memory of that discovery should continue to send the jitters down the spine of any patriotic Nigerian. The weapons uncovered included “anti-tank weapons, RPGs and RPG launchers, submachine guns, handguns, and a large quantity of ammunition and explosives,” according to reports. The cache was later tied to Hezbollah and the sponsor of that terror group is well known as Iran, which pulls the strings and dictates the group’s actions, practically. We must not forget that prior to the discovery of the cache of arms in Kano, the Department of State Services (DSS) had uncovered an Iranian terror network in Lagos on February 20, 2013. Members of the network answered to Shiite cleric who had trained in Iran. Their briefs included spying on nationals and interest of other nations that are Nigeria’s allies. Further down memory lane, a vessel, the M/V Everest arrived in Nigeria on October 26, 2010 with cargo that was inimical to us as a nation – 13 container load of weapons, make that several tons of weapons that originated from Iran. While the destination of the weapons was said to be the Gambia, nothing puts it beyond those behind the shipment to have quietly offloaded and slipped some into circulation in Nigeria. The two operatives of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards behind the shipment had posed as businessmen in the business of building material so claiming the destination was the Gambia could have as well been a front. It appears Iran got fed up with having to use fronts and alibis to get the dirty job done and simply decided to outsource to a proxy. The Islamic Movement in Nigeria thus became the willing franchisee in Nigeria to do the Islamic Republic’s dirty work. What better way to infiltrate another country other than through its citizens that have been brainwashed to the point of radicalism? Whatever Iran got into IMN members must have been some sort of hallucinogen-on-steroid. Leaders of the group, hand-picked and trained in Iran have spent years, quietly building cells and networks while the Nigerian state continues to think there is now much to worry about since they were interacting with a supposedly friendly nation. Recent events have however exposed the flaw in that perception. IMN is nothing like a religious or sectarian movement it packages itself to be. It is an Iranian terror group that is apparently intended to metamorphose into the Nigerian equivalent of Hezbollah at some point. Iran’s inability to ship weapons or embed spies in Nigeria without detection possibly forced it to activate the side of IMN prematurely. This perhaps explains the rapid rate at which the group became belligerent. It had maintained a reign of terror over Zaria, Kaduna state, which it used like a test case, without brazenly confronting security operatives or attempting to assassinate military leaders. The decision of its leaders and members to engage the army in an open war in December 2015 must have been driven by directions and assurances from outside Nigeria and only one country is known to have such capacity, interest and incentive. Two things stood out in the wake of the fall out from the folly of IMN in fighting the army. One, the cache of weapons surfaced from the IMN stronghold in Zaria echoes the several attempts by Iran to ship weapons to or through Nigeria. In both cases authorities need to investigate to find out the extent to which Iran succeeded in handing arms to IMN members in instances that were not discovered by security agencies. That probe should also extend to finding out what trainings IMN members received from Iran in the light of the videos showing members of the group performing military drills. Secondly, we must establish how much logistics and funding support IMN got from Iran, especially under its former ambassador, Saeed Koozechi, who was openly anti-Nigeria while championing the right of IMN militants to kill Nigerian troops and get away from it. That investigation too should shed light on what has changed under the incumbent Ambassador Zarchi who replaced Koozechi. The IMN extremists had slowed down their invectives against the Nigerian state upon Koozechi’s recall but have again started returning to aggressive behaviours. Their aggression in resent weeks included threats to shut down Abuja with protests if IMN head, Shaik Ibraheem Al-Zakyzaky is not released from detention even when the offence for which he is being held borders on terrorism. It remains unclear at this point if the members genuinely want to see their leader freed or that Iran has become fed up with him and only wants him released to newly anointed replacements who will likely kill him to have something against the Nigerian government while paving way for a leadership that will be even more aggressive than Al-Zakyzaky. Whatever the case may be, if the previous government did not do it must be because they repeatedly ignored the facts, but the federal government must review our relationship with the Islamic Republic of Iran. Its current Ambassador should be sent back home while relations with the country should be put on ice until it can give a strong commitment that it would cut off support to IMN, stop shipping arms to or through Nigeria and not to attempt creating a Hezbollah equivalent in Nigeria. – Gabriel Onoja writes from the Centre Against Terrorism and Extremism, Jos, Plateau State http://leadership.ng/opinions/553534/how-iran-betrayed-our-diplomatic-confidence |

Targheeb and Tarheeb The Effects of Sins Author: Ibn al-Qayyim Source: Al-Jawab al-Kaafi ONE. The Prevention of Knowledge: Knowledge is a light which Allaah throws into the heart and disobedience extinguishes this light. Imaam Shaafi'ee said: I complained to Wakee' about the weakness of my memory So he ordered me to abandon disobedience And informed me that the knowledge is light And that the light of Allaah is not given to the disobedient TWO. The Prevention of Sustenance: Just as Taqwaa brings about sustenance, the abandonment of Taqwaa causes poverty. There is nothing which can bring about sustenance like the abandonment of disobedience THREE. The prevention of obedience (to Allaah). If there was no other punishment for sin other than that it prevents one from obedience to Allaah then this would be sufficient. FOUR. Disobedience weakens the heart and the body. Its weakening the heart is something which is clear. Disobedience does not stop weakening it until the life of the heart ceases completely. FIVE. Disobedience reduces the lifespan and destroys any blessings. Just as righteousness increases the lifespan, sinning reduces it. SIX. Disobedience sows its own seeds and gives birth to itself until separating from it and coming out of it becomes difficult for the servant. SEVEN. Sins weaken the hearts will and resolve so that the desire for disobedience becomes strong and the desire to repent becomes weak bit by bit until the desire to repent is removed from the heart completely. EIGHT. Every type of disobedience is a legacy of a nation from among the nations which Allaah Azzawajall destroyed. Sodomy is a legacy of the People of Lot, taking more than one's due right and giving what is less is a legacy of the People of Shu'ayb, seeking greatness in the land and causing corruption is a legacy of the People of Pharoah and pride/arrogance and tyranny is a legacy of the People of Hud. So the disobedient one is wearing the gown of some of these nations who were the enemies of Allaah. NINE. Disobedience is a cause of the servant being held in contempt by his Lord. Al-Hasan al-Basree (rh) said: They became contemptible in (His sight) so they disobeyed Him. If they were honourable (in His sight) He would have protected them. Allah the Exalted said: And whomsoever Allaah lowers (humiliates) there is none to give honour. [Hajj 22:18] TEN. The ill-effects of the sinner fall upon those besides him and also the animals as a result of which they are touched by harm. ELEVEN. The servant continues to commit sins until they become very easy for him and seem insignificant in his heart and this is a sign of destruction. Every time a sin becomes insignificant in the sight of the servant it becomes great in the sight of Allaah. Ibn Mas'ood (ra) said: Indeed, the believer sees his sins as if he was standing at the foot of a mountain fearing that it will fall upon him and the sinner sees his sins like a fly which passes by his nose so he tries to remove it by waving his hand around. [Bukhaaree] TWELVE. Disobedience inherits humiliation and lowliness. Honour, all of it, lies in the obedience of Allaah. Abdullaah ibn al-Mubaarak said: I have seen sins kill the hearts And humiliation is inherited by their continuity The abandonment of sins gives life to the hearts And the prevention of your soul is better for it THIRTEEN. Disobedience corrupts the intellect. The intellect has light and disobedience extinguishes this light. When the light of the intellect is extinguished it becomes weak and deficient. FOURTEEN. When disobedience increases, the servant's heart becomes sealed so that he becomes of those who are heedless. The Exalted said: But no! A stain has been left on their hearts on account of what they used to earn (i.e. their actions) [Mutaffifeen 83:14] FIFTEEN. Sins cause the various types of corruption to occur in the land. Corruption of the waters, the air, the plants, the fruits and the dwelling places. The Exalted said: Mischief has appeared on the land and the sea on account of what the hands of men have earned; that He may give them a taste of some of (the actions) they have done, in order that they may return. [Rum 30:41] SIXTEEN. The disappearance of modesty which is the essence of the life of the heart and is the basis of every good. Its disappearance is the disappearance of all that is good. It is authentic from the Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) that he said: Modesty is goodness, all of it [Bukhaaree and Muslim] A Poet said: And by Allaah, there is no good in life Or in the world when modesty goes SEVENTEEN. Sins weaken and reduce themagnification of Allaah, the Mighty in the heart ofthe servant EIGHTEEN. Sins are the cause of Allaah forgetting His servant, abandoning him and leaving him to fend for himself with his soul and his shaytaan and in this is the destruction from which no deliverance can be hoped for. NINETEEN. Sins remove the servant from the realm of Ihsaan (doing good) and he is prevented from (obtaining) the reward of those who do good. When Ihsaan fills the heart it prevents it from disobedience. TWENTY. Disobedience causes the favours (of Allaah) to cease and make His revenge lawful. No blessing ceases to reach a servant except due to a sin and no retribution is made lawful upon him except due to a sin. Alee (ra) said: No trial has descended except due to a sin and it (the trial) is not repelled except by repentance. Allaah the Exalted said: Whatever misfortune afflicts you then it is due to what your hands have earned and (yet) He pardons many [Shura 42:30] And the Exalted also said: That is because never will Allaah change the favour He has bestowed on a people until they change what is with themselves [Anfaal 8:53] http://www.salafipublications.com/sps/sp.cfm?subsecID=TZK05&articleID=TZK050002&articlePages=1 |

The fear of Boko Haram by nearly everyone has led to an unprecedented lack of public debate amongst politicians, traditional and religious leaders, especially in Northern Nigeria and in the National Assembly, despite the great danger the phenomenon poses to Nigeria’s fragile unity. This deepening silence by leaders in the ‘Muslim North’ and commentators has created a wrong assumption by many in the South and Christians all over the country that the inability of the ‘Muslim North’ to out-rightly denounce the activities of the sect is proof positive that the region wants to undermine the Jonathan Administration because he is a Southerner and an intolerable infidel. Apparently there is the political Boko Haram that uses the name of the group to carry out the assassinations of some of their political opponents in the North- East. And again, there are some politicians and security contractors both in the North and South that have grown tall on the crest of the Boko Haram catastrophe to develop their personal estates. This article is not about the North or South or about Christians or Muslims, it is merely an attempt, on account of my un-shaking belief in the obligations that a journalist owe society, to break the silence. At the risk of sounding immodest, I can claim to have distinguished myself as the most credible source of news about the sect. However, this ‘feat’ has not come without the misconception by many within government that I am the Boko Haram with a pen as a weapon. Suicide bombings and armed robberies in the name of religion in Nigeria was started by the Jama’atu Ahl-Sunnati Lil Da’awati wal Jihad otherwise known as Boko Haram in the early hours of June 16, 2011. Since then there have been several instances of suicide bombings in Nigeria this year, and several instances of targeted bombings of public places such as churches, beer parlours, banks and police stations, which have so far led to the death of hundreds of persons including women and children. The impact and depth of their killings and destruction to the institutions of government and public psychology is unparallel. The platform of all these violence by Boko Haram remains religion, specifically the Islamic faith, from which sect leaders and followers push for suicide bombing on assumption that it offers perpetrators’ martyr status as well as instant access to paradise. I have discussed the suicide bombings and armed robberies (Fai’u in Arabic or Ganima) in the name of Jihad with several Islamic scholars. The first question I put to these clerics is; what is the concept and criteria for waging Jihad. They’ve all said Jihad literally means putting in all effort in carrying out tasks. Technically, it carries different meanings based from the Quran and Hadith perspectives. Some scholars interpret this to mean waging war against the unbelievers; e.g. Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 25. V.52 ‘So do not follow the unbelievers, and strive against them a mighty striving with it’. Others, however, think that ‘with it’ here means not waging war, but instead using the words of Allah to argue, debate and ultimately prove to them the truth. He further states in Surah Tahrim of the Holy Quran 66: 9 ‘O Prophet strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and be stern with them’. Here too, Allah urged the Prophet to handle unbelievers and hypocrites sternly. In the case of the former, waging of war was acceptable but in the case of the latter i.e. hypocrites, the Prophet did not wage war on them. A case of Abdallah Bin Ubay bin Sullul and his likes are replete in Islamic History. Also, in Surah Al Qassas of the HQ 28:6 Allah says ‘whosoever striveth, only for himself for Lo! Allah is altogether independent of His creatures’. Similar instances abound a lot in the Quran but do not strictly means waging of war (Jihad). And in many situations the Holy Prophet used the concept Jihad but did not explicitly refer to waging of war. From Bukhari & Muslim, two popular sources for Hadith, performance of pilgrimage and the lesser pilgrimage were referred to as Jihad. The Prophet also referred to jihad as feeding of the needy, the less privilege and taking care of the orphans. According to many accounts in the course of writing this article, the following criteria must be met before executing one form of jihad, which is waging of war. The attainment of a ruler (Amir) full-fledged, an Islamic State (independence) strong and capacity for self defence, well trained and highly educated followers, the existence of disbelievers and enemies as neighbours and their refusal to accept the Islamic faith. According to these scholars, apparently, Boko Haram did not meet all these criteria. But, clearly, the sect’s lawful religious activity came under constant stalking and assault by security agencies in Maiduguri and at Bauchi, and according to these scholars, Boko Haram have a right to defend themselves in these circumstances. However, the big question today is, does the suicide attacks on UN House or recently in Damaturu and several places that led to the deaths of over 150 persons including women and children amount to a self defence? The Holy Quran teaches us in Chapter 5, Verse 33 that "Whosoever killed a person - unless it be for killing a person or for creating disorder in the land - it shall be as if he had killed all mankind." One scholar further explained here that, "a person who kills another person unfairly or who kills someone who had neither rebelled nor became a source of violating peace amongst the people nor created disorder in the land, it is as if he has killed the whole of mankind. In other words, to kill a person without any cause is, according to God Almighty, like the murder of the entire human race.” In another Hadith narrated by all narrators except Bukhari, it is said that “the prophet used to advise the commanders separately and the whole group together to fear Allah and adhere to the rules of engagement specified by Allah and further enjoined on them to fight in the name of Allah for the purpose of proclaiming the words of the Creator; fight those who reject oneness of Allah; do not be unfaithful, do not deceive; do not renegade on any agreement reached; do not mutilate the corpses; do not kill children, women, elderly; and do not kill those engage in worship except if they fight you.” The application of the concept of jihad is incumbent on all Muslims, but the one that has to do with waging of war is incumbent only on meeting the following criteria: When the unbelievers ambush Muslim settlement, it is incumbent on all to defend it. Apparently, Boko Haram were armed bushed and shot-at with life bullets during a funeral procession in 2009 by Security Agents in Maiduguri for their refusal to abide by traffic laws, and this according to them, is a ground for them to wage ‘Jihad’. When the ruler assigns the task of waging war, once in the war front, it is forbidden to abandon it. Boko Haram believe that in response to the 2009 attacks against them, their ruler, late Mohammed Yusuf waged ‘Jihad’ and therefore they can never abandon it until every single one of them is death. Whether or not the current Jihad being waged by Boko Haram meets the Islamic standard can best be imagined here and must to be a subject of public debate by the ‘Muslim North’ if only we can damn the bombs and AK47 of Boko Haram because everyone of us must die sooner or later. What is the popular position of suicide bombing in Islam? There is no suicide bombing in Islam. Allah had said in Chapter 2: 195 “Spend your wealth for the cause of Allah and be not cast by your own hands to ruin and do good, Lo! Allah loves the doers of good.” But indeed there is the concept of martyrdom in Islam which is always misconstrued as suicide bombing. A member of Boko Haram before embarking on a suicide bombing quoted a verse in the HQ "Allah hath purchased of the believers their persons and their goods; for theirs (in return) is the garden (of Paradise): they fight in His cause, and slay and are slain: a promise binding on Him in truth, through the Law, the Gospel, and the Qur'an: and who is more faithful to his covenant than Allah? Then rejoice in the bargain which ye have concluded: that is the achievement supreme." And the dark-eyed virgins which Mohammed Mangga, the person that bombed the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja believed await him after blowing up himself at the Louis Edet House, are mentioned in several verses in the HQ verses 44:54 and 52:20. For those who swing the other way, there are "perpetual youth" verse 6:17, otherwise known as "boys" verses 52:24 and 76:19. However, virtually all the scholars I have spoken with say this is a misconception of the Qur’an. The question here is did Boko Haram meet the criteria of Jihad and are they waging it under strict Islamic standards? If yes, then they can claim martyrdom. But suicide is forbidden in the Qur’an. "O ye who believe!... [do not] kill yourselves, for truly Allah has been to you Most Merciful. If any do that in rancour and injustice, soon shall We cast him into the Fire..." (Qur'an 4:29-30). The taking of life is allowed only by way of justice (i.e. the death penalty for murder), but even then, forgiveness is better. "Nor take life - which Allah has made sacred - except for just cause..." (17:33). It is important to note that the predominant theme in the Qur'an is forgiveness and peace. Allah is Merciful and Forgiving, and seeks that of His followers. In the fight against terrorism of all forms, it is important to understand who is a terrorist, what is the motivation for such terror acts. We can only fight against this horror if we understand its causes and motivations. What motivates Boko Haram to lash out in this violent, inhumane way? Many belief it is the deep rooted corruption and injustices that have become strong pillars of bad governance in Nigeria. Many expert accounts conclude that religion neither causes nor explains suicide bombings. The true motivation of such attacks is something that all of us must understand and address squarely. Another contentious issue is, is it lawful for Boko Haram to engage in arm robberies? They called their actions fai’u. Fai’u means to return or give-back. Technically, fai’u is a process whereby ownership of wealth of the (unbelievers) enemies comes to the Muslims without waging war. In Chapter 59:6; Allah says ‘and that which Allah gave as spoil fai’u unto His messenger from them, ye urge not any horse or riding camel for the sake thereof, but Allah giveth His messenger lordship over whom He will’. In the history of Islam, there came a time when the people of Bani Nadhir abandoned their abode and everything within it for fear of Muslims conquest. What they left behind was known as fai’u and was used for weapon procurement. But it is important here not to mix up the term fai’u and robbery because there is a sharp contrast between what occurred in Bani Nadhir and what obtains today, said the scholars. However, it may be confusing to non-students of Islamic history that the people of Mecca had severally forcefully collected the wealth of the Muslims before migration; and at a point the Muslims tried to collect back what belonged to them, an act that sparked off the main battle of Badr. In contrast, when peoples’ wealth, even those of the unbelievers who did not fight you, is forcefully collected is viewed as robbery and in this case the punishment of robbery is to chop off the limbs diagonally, or hang to death or imprisonment if the robbery involved murder. What is the position of wasting human life like the killings of Islamic clerics by Boko Harm? Killing of human being, especially that of the believer is not only heinous but one of the gravest sins said all the scholars. The Holy Qur’an 4: 93 says ‘whosoever slayeth a believer of set purpose, his reward is hell forever. Allah’s wrath against him and He hath cursed him and preferred for him an awful doom. In a Hadith narrated by Tirmidhi and Nasai reported by Ibn Umar ‘the prophet said Allah may forgive any kind of sins, except one who dies as Mushrik or intentionally killing a believer’. In the narration of Nasai he said, it is easier for Allah to see the earth disappeared than a believer killed’. If the whole humanity come together and killed a believer, Allah will not mind sending them all to hell fire. According to Boko Haram the clerics and other Muslims they killed are either working or sympathetic to the government of the day and they promote or support democracy in some ways. Therefore, since democracy is Kufr they are unbelievers especially when most of them pinpointed or kept mum during arrests and executions of their members over the years. Scholars said, once a man proclaims oneness of Allah, his wealth, life and dignity are secured. Or if he agrees to live with Muslims without troubling them, even in war times, he is also secured. Osama bin Zayd reported by Muslim and Abu Daud that ‘while we were at war, when we reached the enemies they fled away and a man appeared to us and proclaimed the Shahada, but I did not spare him and when we reached the Prophet, he angrily inquired of me thrice ‘after he said the Shahada! , what will you tell Allah?’ I responded saying he proclaimed it out of fear of me! The prophet responded again thrice saying ‘did you open his heart and see it whether he was sincere or not?’ Did Boko Haram open the hearts of several clerics and many Muslims to know whether they are true believers or not before they killed them? Miqdat bin Aswad said in a Hadith narrated by Muslim, Abu Daud and Tirmidhi ‘I inquired O, prophet of Allah, assuming we are in a war and an unbeliever chopped off one of my hands and as I intend to strike him he proclaimed the Shahada, do I kill him or let go? The prophet answered, “Let him go.” “But he chopped off my hand!” “Let him go! For if you kill him, your positions would have switched,” the Prophet said. The scholars concluded that the members of Boko Haram have switched places with those they have killed, adding that “We urge Boko Haram to please take the path of reconciliation and forgiveness.” (c)Salkida 2011 Written by Ahmad Salkida https://www./tasking-basis-boko-harams-islamic-faith-december-2011-ahmad-salkida |

RESTRUCTURING: Who Lopsided Nigeria In The First Place? — By Duro Onabule • Ever so often in the past couple of decades, we have been almost chocked by knowledgable, ignorant, well-meaning and malicious Nigerians on the inevitability of restructuring the Nigerian federation. Perhaps desirably. Even then, the take-off of the intermitent demand of purported restructuring is always from wrong bases to wit that (a) northerners malstructured the country and (b) through the instrumentality of the army nuances of ardent agitators of restructuring to that effect are unmistakable What are the facts of Nigerian political history specifically from the independence constitution to the end of PDP federal administration in 2015 on this controversial issue? First, President Muhammadu Buhari deserves severe rebuke for unnecessarily attracting criticisms for his rather tactless handling of his government’s handling of the restructuring issue. Asked what was his government’s policy on the prospects of restructuring of Nigerian federation, especially in view of Conference Report (containing recommendations for restructuring) submitted on the eve of Goodluck Jonathan’s exit from office, Buhari, like a macho man, dismissively responded that the Conference Report would remain on the shelf. Truly, it is not as if Buhari would ever retrieve the document from the shelf for implementation but he (Buhari) was wrong to impliedly put the blame on himself. To assert himself and still put the blame where it (still) belongs, all Buhari had to do rather effortlessly was to employ what, in boxing profession, is called technical knockout, for which nobody can fault him. The very agitators of political resructuring made the task easy for Buhari by rendering the Conference Report comatose, even before he (Buhari) was elected. While campaigns were on for the 2015 presidential elections, agitators of restructuring made it an election issue, a sort of referendum, by publicly canvassing on voters to return former President Jonathan to office “so that he could implement the Conference Report”. Chief Ayo Adebanjo led the entire Egbe Afenifere group to take that public stand. It was a risky gamble, which they lost. It was a political dagger aimed at Buhari, which fortunately he survived by winning the presidential elections. He, therefore, does not owe any obligation to implement the Conference Report. We must learn to accept responsibility for our actions. Only a couple of months ago, erstwhile British prime minister, David Cameron, threw his tenure at the electorate to support Britain’s continued membership of European Union. Britons, in the referendum, voted otherwise and Cameron accepted the verdict by resigning, with the assurance that Britain would end its membership of European Union and the new administration in Britain has comenced that process. Even if the Buhari administration is dragged to court in a desperation to force him (to) implement the Conference Report, Federal Government’s submission should be that Nigerians, had, in the presidential elections rejected the document. QED. The issue of who lopsided the country in all ramifications of administration is always unfairly discussed, as if a section or a sector deliberately set out for self-serving purposes. As at time the army struck in January 1966, Nigeria not only had the federal and four regional governments but also a very flexible federal form of constitution, as obtains in United States, India, Australia and West Germany, now united with East Germany, running a single federation. Nigeria’s only four regions were east, west, north and mid-west. But more than that, Tafawa Balewa’s federal government learnt the hard way that regional autonomy, (almost independence) was untouchable, a safeguard well assured by the trenchant judiciary of the day, unlike today’s asset accumulating gang. In 1961, prime minister Balewa tried to probe the finances of western region but was halted by Federal High Court judge, Daddy Onyeama, a ruling affirmed by Supreme Court. On the other hand, when breakdown of law and order warranted total take-over of the enire west regional government and Balewa strictly followed the constitution, Nigerian judiciary upheld the move. However, when General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi assumed office in January, 1966, he set up a panel headed by a federal permanent secretary, Francis Nwokedi, to recommend a workable administrative structure for Nigeria, which would remove or, at least, minimise the political problems, mutual animosity and suspicion. The Nwokedi panel report recommended unitary system, which encompassed abolition of the regions, increasing the power of Federal Government. That was the beginning of lopsidedness (in favour of Federal Government) in Nigeria. Both were southerners even if, by circumstances, Ironsi was a soldier. In the midst of the uncertainty created by the counter coup of July 1966, head of the federal military government, Lt. Colonel (as he then was) Yakubu Gowon (a northerner) and military governor of eastern region, Colonel Chukwuemeka Ojuukwu, a southerner, agreed at Aburi, Ghana, to new consitutional/political arrangements, which contained all the demands of today’s agitators for political restructuring, especially resource control and total regional autonomy, except creation of states. In short, as far back as 1967, Gowon, a northerner, and Ojukwu, a southerner, had the foresight and agreed on the restructuring. When Gowon returned to Lagos, mainly Yoruba and Bendelites descended on him rather derisively. These critics were super permanent secretaries, journalists, political class led by their godfathers, academicians, senior civil servants carried away in their new posts abandoned by easterners, all of them calling on Gowon to throw “Aburi to the dogs.” Remarkably, northerners, as tactful as ever, largely did not join in the public uproar in the media and public places, as they (northerners) merely listened, looked on and allowed southerners to do the talking. At the worst, southerners played into the hands of Gowon, who then had to abandon Aburi agreement by creating twelve new states, majority of them in the North. Again, that was the beginning of the North, having more states than the South, all at the instigation of westerners, Bendelites and eastern minorites. Remarkably, throughout colonial era, up to independence in 1960, North, East and West each had only one region and on its own, created as many local governments as desirable. Southern political desperados conferred the power to create new local governments on the Federal Government. These same fellows are moaning today. By the way, south easterners at that time had all retreated home because of the political uncertainty and did not join the call for Aburi to be thrown to the dogs. Up to July 1966 when Gowon assumed office, revenue allocation formula was as obtained under colonial era till the collapse of First Republic, with regions having the largest share, depending on its resource. Cocoa was the major revenue earner for Nigeria and western region was accordingly far better placed financially above the three other regions, East, North and Mid-West, Under Gowon’s regime, and with Obafemi Awolowo as federal commissioner for finance, government set up the I. O. Dina (a retired permanent secretary in the defunct western region) panel to review the revenue allocation formula. Dina recommended Federal Government control of resources to the detriment of (regions) today’s states. That was the background of the scrapping of the principle of derivation by the states. Awolowo and Dina were southerners and even if Gowon ordered the review of the allocation formula, collateral responsibility was still that of Awolowo. After all, he was credited with the sole financial expertise of managing Nigeria’s economy throughout the civil war without a kobo foreign loan. It must, however, be conceded that had he won the 1979 or 1983 presidential elections, better use would have been made of the federal revenue. Northerners should not be blamed as a group for changing the revenue formular On the imminent return to civilian rule in 1979, military head of Federal Government, General Olusegun Obsanjo, set up a constitutional drafting committee headed by Chief Rotimi Williams. Both were southerners. Obasanjo, in his eventual amendment of the draft constitution, ensured lopsidedness against the South. Constitions by succeeding military regimes of General Ibarahim Babangida (1989) scrapped by Abacha for his 1995 version, and the 1999 Abdulsalami Abubakar were all mere convenient rehash of their C-in-C’s 1979 document. Worse still, was there any change in Obasanjo’s third term attempted constitution except the plot to perpetuate himself but for the determination of northerners to stop him? Not to be forgotten was the patriotism of the then senate president, Ken Nnamani, who ruled for televised debate. Goodluck Jonathan and ex-finance miniter Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala both further violated the revenue allocation formula by pauperising states with the so-called Sovereign Wealth Fund. Both are Niger Deltans and southerners. Our constitution does not empower Federal Government to tamper with the budget of any state with the extortion of purportedly saving for a rainy day. It is the inalienable right of each state to put aside any convenient amount instead of being coerced by the Federal Government. Goodluck, a southerner, had six years within which he could have restructured Nigeria but he took no action until he was seeking an extra four years. He lost that battle. Which Conference Report for restructuring Nigeria are these agitators demanding to be implemented? The same report, which recommended eighteen new states in Nigeria? Are we really serious? The existing states except, perhaps, Lagos, cannot pay salaries. Northerners are not saints in this our political logjam but blame for malstructuring is minimal if any. |
A Peek at False Manhaj of Muhammad Awwal #JABATA Al-Haddaadee At-Takfeeree #SouthWest #Nigeria Written by: Aboo 'Aamir Al-Atharee Uploaded on: Shawwaal 04, 1434, (11 August, 2013) Some ten years ago in South-West Nigeria, there arrived a fellow from Egypt en route Lagos and finally landed in a city known for some Islamic presence albeit Soofiyyah, Ilorin. This was a time when there was a resurgence of Sunnah-Salafiyyah in the region. Many youths were very enthusiastic to learn what was new in the Sunnah, and without much ado, would put it into action. This was also a time when many Sunnah-loving youths were freeing themselves from the blindness of hizbiyyah [blameworthy partisanship] that was being promoted by many Sunnah-seeming organizations. There were scholars of Sunnah at the time but they were very handful, or not very prominent, perhaps because the challenge was not really there. Then the youths began to hear some conundrums from the fellow that arrived from Egypt. Things that were not what the youths were yearning for. Though some of the youths, especially those not really on the knowledge path, as usual, fell for the bait. Ibn Hajar Al-Asqalaanee [may Allâh show mercy on him], the writer of the popular Bulooghul-Maraam and the best commentary on Saheeh Bukhaari, was a Kâfir because he was an unrepentant Ash’aree (a person that makes some twistings in some of the Attributes of Allaah). Abu Haneefah [may Allâh show mercy on him] was no Imaam at all, in fact he was an ignoramus that rarely said what was correct whether in jurisprudential matters or ‘Aqeedah; he was a Mur’ji’ [a person that removes actions from belief] so he must be removed from the Four Imaams! Al-Imaam an-Nawawee [may Allâh show mercy on him] was also a Kâfir because he was as guilty as Ibn Hajar [may Allâh show mercy on him]. Al-Imaam As-Suyootee was indeed a Sufi whose comments and scholarly works amounted to nothing. If you eat with your spoon and fork you have come up with an innovation in the Deen and your abode is the hell, do not count on any excuse because there is no excuse in the matters that have to do with Aqeedah! If you have a newborn, and you invite people to it to dine with you, then you are as well as a kaafir. If your wife or daughter or mother does not cover her face then she is a sinner and her sin is nothing but a Kufr act, therefore she will enter the hellfire, no question. All the fathers are unbelievers if they do not hear what we say, hence when we pretentiously ask for the hands of their daughters in marriage and they fail to grant it we shall go ahead and marry them, there is no need for a Sharee’ah Qaadi to permit it, the Qudaat themselves are people of bid’ah and the people bid’ah, as far as we are concerned are Kuffaar, not even the minor Kufr! Kufr is Kufr just as bid’ah is bid’ah all which lands its doer in the hell as a major sin. By Allâh, we have some youths that imbibe(d) the above false and far-from-the-correct-manhaj teachings, and of course, put them into ferocious actions declaring whomever comes with different stances even if they are more correct as kuffaar mubtadi’oon. May Allâh save the Muslims. Nobody brought the thoughts we have mentioned to South-West Nigeria other than the fellow that came from Egypt via Lagos. His name is Muhammad Awwal Alee Jabata [may Allâh guide him and us to what is correct]. He is indeed a scourge for the Muslims in the South-West Nigeria. As we said, he had his higher schooling in Egypt. He studied nothing but the course many scholars of Sunnah, past and present, had warned us about, Falsafa [Philosophy] in a university which nobody goes and remains safe in ‘Aqeedah and Manhaj except whomever is shown mercy by Allâh, al-Azhar University, Cairo. Jabata was doing his Master’s degrees when he was sent away from the school for anti-government activities; he was eventually jailed. One of his former first-class students, whom Allâh the Bountiful Lord has saved from him, Abdul-Fattaah Balloo, told us that when they were students under him, Jabata used to boast of being sent out of the Azhari University because of what he claimed were bold steps in saying the ‘truth’ against the government! One very sad thing, and which has informed this important but short message, is that Jabata goes on today declaring Muslims especially the callers to Sunnah as Kuffaar because of one alleged Bid’ah or the other, in fact, he has openly declared sinners among the Muslims as Kuffaar. For instance, he said whoever eats mutton, chicken, egg, etc, from animals not well-kept have eaten scavengers therefore such a person is a sinner and is guilty of kufr that will land him in the hell fire. His tapes where he says such things are very widely spread. It was no surprise when he declared a caller to Sunnah [we do not praise anybody above Allâh] in Ibadan as a Kâfir for allegedly permitting bowing to other than Allâh. That allegation remains a big lie. We would have even kept quiet from writing about him if not very recently when some foot-soldiers of his came out massively online to sell the products of their fateen teacher to the non-suspecting Muslim public at the time when the love for Sunnah and Salafiyyah seems to be soaring very rapidly, all praise to Allâh. Jabata has made himself an authority in the whole of South West Nigeria. Praise to Allâh who used some scholars and students of the Sunnah in Lagos and Ilorin to cut his wings, that was about seven years ago. Those scholars refuted him so ferociously that he went underground for years. Alhamdulillah, many youths abandoned him and we even thought he had repented from his evil statements. But today Jabata has resurfaced and found a new haven in the old city of Ibadan, the capital of the old western region of Nigeria and the arguably the largest city in Africa, and there are many ignoramuses blindly following him saying ‘he has daleel with him’. Many of these his ignoramus followers do not know how to spell their names in Arabic let alone knowing the matters of Bid’ah, Kufr and Eemaan properly. May Allâh guide all of us and them. Among the teachings of Alee Jabata are the following: 1. That Allâh only sent the Messenger of Allâh (salaLlaahu alahyi wa sallam) to us therefore there is no need for scholarly explanations in the matters of the Deen this is why he has come up with various theories he had no one as his Imaam. AbdulFattaah Ballo told us that he was there in the class when Jabata began the Da’wah of spoon and fork is bid’ah that would lead to kufr, he said they were reading a Qaradawi book that day when he came across the issue while trying to refute the former. He said he was also present in the Waleemah of the second wife of Jabata where spoons were freely used. In fact, he said, when it seemed the gathering had run out of spoons, Jabata himself had to search for spoons to share between his guests. But just some months after, he said the use of spoon and fork is a bid’ah act that makes one a total Kâfir! That is what he and his followers say there is no exaggeration. So Jabata believes in no scholar save his unknown teachers. Abdul-Fattaah said, truly Jabata used to quote Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn Qayyim but he would quote them when they said whatever suited his whims. He believes in himself and himself alone upon the claim that he is following the Daleel! So he is a mujtahid! 2. Similar to the point above is that Jabata does not believe in the legitimacy of the statements of the Sahabah as being useful in the Sharî’ah. He said whether a Sahabi said a thing or not is not what matters, what matters is whatever the Messenger of Allâh (salaLlaahu alahyi wa sallam) said. This therefore qualifies him to look at the issues of Islam the way he feels like since the person of the Messenger of Allâh (salaLlaahu alahyi wa sallam) alone is to be followed! It is not far that this thought of his takes him away from the manhaj of the Salaf even if he and his loyalists make a thousand claims. Those are the Usool of Jabata known to him and his unknown teachers among whom is the deviant, Mahmood al-Haddaadee, also and Egyptiian, who championed the cause, among other deviant ones, that all the books of Ibn Hajar al-Asqalanee should be burnt because he was a Kâfir! Interestingly Jabata says he is not a follower of Haddaadee. He would sometime want to burst into crying whenever he is attributed to Haddaadee. AbdulFattaah Ballo told us that Jabata once said that Haddaadee himself was a Kâfir to him! We say that it is not new for a bunch of Takfeeris ending up calling one another Kuffaar. One of the scholars has said that if you gather ten Takfeeris in a room, they will end up calling one another kuffaar. There are many other things Jabata would deny whenever he is cornered. Whether Jabata and his followers like it or not, he is a Haddaadee and a Takfeeri [a person who unjustly declares Muslims as unbelievers because of one sins or the other that sometimes include bid’ah] thus his words are not to be taken. His speeches are to be avoided. Warnings have to go on against him and his followers, until the Deen become Allah’s alone. As we said in the caption, this is just a glimpse, the false manhaj of Alee Jabata would be tackled blow-by-blow in the subsequent write-ups, Insha Allâh. May Allâh give us the strength and the time to do so, only Him alone knows our intent. May Allâh save you and us from the plots of the evil doers. Lastly, we think it would not be proper if we fail to bring the concise description made by one of the Shuyookh of Sunnah in South West Nigeria, Ash-Shaykh Najeem Sulayman [may Allâh lengthen his life on goodness], about the person and manhaj of Alee Jabata. The Shaykh said: ﺟﺮﻱﺀ ﻋﻠﻰ ﺍﻟﺒﺎﻃﻞ،ﻣﺘﻄﻮﻝ ﻟﺴﺎﻧﻪ ! ﺃﻗﻮﺍﻟﻪ ﻛﺎﺳﺪﺓ، ﻋﺎﻃﻠﺔ، ﻓﺎﺳﺪﺓ ﺑﻞ ﺑﺎﻃﻠﺔ ! ﻟﻢ ﻳﺸﻢ ﺭﻳﺤﺔ ﺍﻟﺪﻋﻮﺓ ﺍﻟﺴﻠﻔﻴﺔ ﻓﻀﻼ ﻣﻦ ﺃﻥ ﻳﺬﻭﻗﻬﺎ . ﻓﺎﻟﻠﻪ ﺍﻟﻤﺴﺘﻌﺎﻥ ! 'He is bold on falsehood. His tongue is (always) drawn out. His speeches are unmarketable, rejected even false. He never smelt Da'wah Salafiyyah let alone tasting it. Allaah's aid is sought.' |
derahhh:Columbia, Ukraine, Honduras, Mexico, USA (where AAs are killed upandan) are all Muslim countries right? Condemn the crime and the perpetrators. |
Why is it that any good move by Northern leaders to educate their wards some frustrated children of hate will come on board to rubbish and insult such moves? I think you all must be suffering from hate induced infections. |
LastProphet:It is your head that is cursed |
cleoblizz332:Truth hurts you know. The hardship presently bedeviling this country is not something that can be attributed to any religious group as it relates to the state of the economy. As for eye service some of the adherents of the two religions are guilty of this and this is not peculiar to Ebira people alone as such is the case in most places. As for disrespecting your dad I never did that I just clarify the truth of the matter as so many onlookers will take your words as the truth. As for using trickery and deception Osun people knows better. Last but not the least the Muslims committing heinous crimes are doing so based on their flawed understanding of the religion and Muslims scholars as well as rulers are fighting against the renegades both ideologically and militarily. So, onyeiza relax your mind and stop picking offense when non was meant. Izeiza omé vuu I hope you understand this phrase |
cleoblizz332:Your father lied to you. We know how missionaries used deception and trickery to forcefully convert Muslims into Christianity, it took the efforts of some prominent Ebira Muslims to end such. Islam came to Ebira people first before Christianity. Omehi Wa dahi? |
dare2differ:With your display here even the unbiased Non-Muslims won't bother to research the truth about Islam and Muslims position on what Islam is all about. Don't be harsh to those asking pertinent questions as your answers may be for you or against you on judgment day. Muslims are taught to be just and balanced in their dealing and you are in opposition to this teaching. Let's clarify the truth no matter the hidden agenda, someone might be saved from ruin by clarifying the truth to him/her. barakallahu feek |

How do you know that your child has become khaarijee & is ready to join Daa'ish (ISIS)? How do you know that your child has become khaarijee & is preparing to join Daa'ish (ISIS)? ~ Ash-Shaykh Ahmad as-Subay'ee ~ 1. He begins to practice the Deensuddenly (without showing any previous signs of interest in practicing & carrying out the rites & obligations of Islaam). 2. He shows concern & dedication towards worship & the Qur'aan, but you don't see him showing concern for true, correct knowledge & the Sunnah. 3. He meets & mixes with people who are not known (to you) or those who are well-known for Takfeer (declaring other Muslims to be disbelievers) from those who manifest "shaykhness" (traits of being a religious authority or person of knowledge). 4. He declares the Muslim ruler to be akaafir or does not believe that his being the ruler is correct according to the Sharee'ah & (nor does he believe in) the obligation of giving him bay'ah & obeying him. 5. He does not denounce or criticize thejamaa'aat al-Islaamiyyah (the innovated Islaamic political parties & groups), except for their ties to the state (government) & their political activism only. 6. He is not repulsed & disgusted by the sources of Takfeer. Rather he might take from them (as sources of knowledge), like Sayyid Qutb & other than him. So if you see these signs, knowledge-based or (signs in his) behavior, then begin to talk to him directly & clearly with Sunnah & denouncing & rejecting the bid'ah of khurooj, which is the base & background of the Khawaarij. So if you see from him stubbornness or hardheadedness, then hasten him to some of the students of knowledge who are upon the Sunnah, far away from the (innovated) jamaa'aat, in order to rush in trying to purify him from this bid'ah. And it is incumbent here that you beware of some affairs that could possibly be a reason for his falling intofitnah & being tried & afflicted. From them: 1. That you put down & criticize his practicing the religion & his striving to carry out acts of obedience & acts of goodness. 2. That you describe him with being too strict in his holding on to the Sunnah of the Messenger صلى الله عليه و على آله و سلم. 3. That you find fault with most of those who are steadfast (in practicing the religion) generally or the like of that, from which he may understand or feel that you don't honor & respect Allaah, nor His Sharee'ah & His prescribed rites, for indeed, that will (only) increase him in evil & fitnah. 4. That you demonstrate to him your faith & goodness of your Islaam, & that you be a good, righteous role model to him. So you accompany him to the congregational prayers in the masjid, & you read the Speech of Allaah, the Qur'aan with Him, & you cooperate with him & help him in doing good (for indeed this will extinguish the spark ofbid'ah from him, إن شاء الله). 5. That you remedy the issue like how is described in the clear, apparentahaadeeth of the Messenger of Allaahصلى الله عليه و على آله و سلم regarding the Khawaarij & that it is an issue of Sunnah & bid'ah, & Haqq & baatil (don't drag your feet by beginning to approach the issue as some kind of need or a psychological disorder). And Allaah is the One Asked that He protect us & the Muslims from bid'a& ahwaa', in particularly the bid'ah of the Khawaarij, & that He protect us from evil & fitan. -------------------------- Rendered into English by Aboo Sufyaan 'Uthmaan Beecher |
quickly:You made mentioned of al-Baghdadi having a Ph.D and from the lineage of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and as such he's an authority in Islam. Let tell me you what you don't know having a Ph.D in a field is not a determining factor that someone is a person of knowledge and understanding, holding on to such belief is a erroneous and seriously misleading as I have seen quite a lot of people with certificate that lacks understanding. Your claim that the man in question is from the lineage of the Prophet is wrong and even if he is from his family it doesn't guarantee that he is acting upon his teaching. As there are many members of the Prophet's family that didn't believe in his call during his time. The Scholars of Islam from Saudi and other Muslim and Non-Muslim lands have clarified the truth about these deviants and exposed their falsehood. The religion of the first black man is Islam as Adam (peace be upon him) was described as a black man and let mention this to you Moses was also a black man, so stop telling me that Africans are copying Arabs by becoming Muslims rather they're reverting back to the religion of their forefathers. |
quickly:To cure your ignorance Islam wasn't spread by killings and rape. Islam has been in existence in Northern and Southern Nigeria before the great-grandfather of el-Kanemi and Dan Fodio were born and this wasn't by way of sword but rather by way of trade and interactions with Muslims Muslims Muslims Muslims. As for Christianity we know how native Americans were wiped away by rampaging Christian men and Africa was looted and Africans enslaved treated very harshly by their captors. |
OohLalah:Saying that Jews and Christians don't act on Jihad calls is false and history has proven this times without number. During the British rule in Palestine the Jews were instructed to attack British targets based on teaching from Jewish scriptures. Similarly, The Lord Resistance Army were composed of Christians and used the Bible as a proof. I can list other cases but this will suffice for the time being. As for Muslims that engage in indiscriminate killings they're referred to as khawarij and are to be fought by a united Muslim army under the command of a ruler. |
OohLalah:Madam your assertion that every Muslim is a potential terrorist is wrong and a flawed one. visit Islam against extremism.com to research the truth and don't judge and reach a conclusion based on some propaganda and the activities of some deranged Muslims. |
