I will advise you to send them to a good day school as the evil that's going on in most of our boarding schools are unspeakable, or better keep them over there and teach them manners yourself.

Islam › Conditioning Oneself To Perform Good Deeds After Ramadan by Amoto94(op): 9:18am On Jul 04, 2016
Conditioning oneself to fast and other good deeds after Ramadan : Imam Ibn Rajb
Few excerpts from wonderful work (Lataif al Maa’rif ) of Al Hafith ibn Rajab –may Allah have mercy on him.
Taken from Mustafa George’s (hafidahullah) blog
Al Hafith Ibn Rajab (died 795h) stated:
Benefits obtained in conditioning oneself to fast after Ramadan
1. Fasting the six days of Shawwal completes the reward for fasting a full year.
2. Fasting these six days and previously fasting in the month of Shabaan (prior to Ramadan) is similar to the sunan ar rawaatib (voluntary prayers associated to each obligatory prayer). These prayers proceed and succeed the obligatory prayers, and correct the deficiency and insufficiency present within them. Indeed voluntary prayers strengthen and perfect any deficiency present within obligatory prayers as has been mentioned by the Messenger –salAllahu alayhi wa salem- in several narrations. Most people possess fault and defect in their obligatory prayers, and because of this the Messenger –salAllahu alayhi wa salem- forbid a person from sayin: I have fasted and stood (in prayer) the full month of Ramadan. (Abu Dawud, Nisaee) A companion upon hearing this hadith said: I don’t know if this forbiddance was due to dislike of praise or due to defect present in the act of worship.
3. Conditioning oneself to fast these days of Shawwal is a sign of acceptance of Ramadan. If Allah accepts an action from His servant He gives that individual the tawfeeq (success) to perform another righteous action thereafter. Some (of the Salaf) used to say: The reward for a good deed is the good deed that follows it . Therefore, whoever performs a good deed, and follows it up with another, this is considered a sign of acceptance of the first deed performed. Likewise, if one were to perform a good deed, and thereafter perform an evil deed, this is considered a sign that the first action was rejected and not accepted from that person.
4. Fasting the month of Ramadan warrants forgiveness for previous sins, as has been mentioned previously. In addition to the fasting individuals being rewarded for their completion of the month on the day of Eid, which is also titled: The Day of Prizes. With this being the case, fasting the (6) days of Shawwal is done to show appreciation for this great blessing (forgiveness of sins), for indeed there is no greater blessing than it.
The Messenger –salAllahu alayhi wa salem- used to stand in prayer at night until his feet bled. Upon doing so he was asked, would you perform such an action while Allah has forgiven you your past and future sins?! The Messenger –salAllahu alayhi wa salem- replied: Should I not be a grateful servant? Allah –The Most Glorified and The Most High- has ordered His servants to glorify Him in appreciation for fasting the month of Ramadan. This is done through remembrance of Him and other forms of gratitude. Allah said:
{And in order for you to complete the prescribed days and magnify Allah for having guided you, and so that you may be grateful to Him} al Baqarah:185
And from those forms of gratitude of the servant to his Lord for having given him success to fast Ramadan, assisting him in doing so, and forgiving him of his sins and faults, is the servant fasting (6 days of Shawwal) upon the completion of Ramadan as a means of appreciation. If the Salaf were given success to pray night prayer on a particular night, they would fast the following day in show of gratitude.
Wahb bin al Ward was asked about the reward for performing a particular action, such as Tawwaf (encircling the Ka’ba), he responded: Don’t ask about the reward for performing such an action, but instead ask about what is upon the individual of gratitude in appreciation for the success and assistance in performing the action.
(Poetry)
If you have not increased in actions (of piety) in appreciation for the blessings upon, then verily you are not grateful.
One must show gratitude for every blessing that Allah has bestowed upon him in his religion and in worldly affairs. Once a person is given this tawfeeq to (actually) show gratitude, then it is once more upon him to show gratitude in appreciation for this tawfeeq. This is a continuous cycle of gratitude, and because of this, a servant will never be able to fully show thankfulness (for the blessings granted to him). The reality of gratitude is that an individual confesses to his inability to (completely) show thankfulness. It was said: (Poetry)
If showing thankfulness to Allah for a blessing bestowed on me is (itself) another blessing, then it is incumbent upon me to show further gratitude. (With this being the case), how can one (truly) show gratefulness except with His (Allah’s) favor, when days continue and life persists (constantly on going).
Abu ‘Omrin as Shaybani said:
Musa –alayhi salam- said on the day of his visit to Mountain Turr: Oh Allah, if I pray, then I do so by Your favor, if I give charity, then I do so by Your favor, and if I spread Your message, then I do so by Your favor. How can I show (complete) gratitude to You!? Allah responded: Oh Musa, now you have showed gratitude.
As for the one who repays the blessing of being able to fast Ramadan, by indulging in sin upon completion of the month, then this person is from those who have repaid the blessings of Allah with ungratefulness. If this individual is certain that once the month is over, he will return to sin, then his fast is not accepted and the door of mercy is shut in his face.
The author further stated:
5. The actions of obedience that were performed during Ramadan do not end at the conclusion of Ramadan, rather these actions continue as one has life. This is similar to the previously (early in chapter) mentioned hadith: “The one who fasts after Ramadan is like the one who fled from the battle field and later (after realizing the tremendous sin he committed) returns to fight in the way of Allah.”
This is because, many people rejoice at the conclusion of Ramadan due to the difficulty, boredom and length of fasting. A person who views fasting Ramadan in such a way will more than likely not immediately return to (voluntarily) fasting. Therefore, the person who immediately begins fasting after completing Ramadan (Shawwal) is displaying his strong desire to fast and he is demonstrating that he did not become bored nor did he dislike fasting the month of Ramadan.
The author further said:
It was said to Bishrin: Indeed the people are worshipping and diligently (performing good deeds in Ramadan). He replied:
How terrible are the people that only acknowledge the rights of Allah in Ramadan. Verily the pious individual is one who worships and is diligent throughout the year.
The actions of The Messenger –salAllahu alayhi wa salem- were constant. ‘Aisha –may Allah be pleased with her- was asked: Did The Messenger choose a specific day (for the performance of righteous deeds)? She replied: No, his actions were constant. She also stated: He would never increase in Ramadan nor in other than Ramadan over 11 units (in voluntary night prayer).
The author later stated: The (righteous) actions of a believer do not end until death befalls him.
Hasan al Basri said: Indeed Allah did not indicate an end to the actions of a believer except at the time of death. Then Hasan recited the verse of Allah:
{And worship your Lord until death approaches} surah hajr:99
The author continued:
These months, years and days are all limited durations and times of actions, then they (time) will quickly pass and end. But The One (Allah) who created this time and duration, and designated within them merits, He will always remain and never end, He is everlasting and unchangeable, and He is at all times one Lord. He is always a watcher and seer over the actions of His servants. Glory is to He who has revolved His servants at various times, through actions of obedience. He bestows great merits upon them during these various times, and upon completion (of these actions) He rewards them with generosity and kindness. Once the three precious forbidden months (ashur al hurm) are complete, the first of them being the forbidden month, and the last of them being the fasting month, these three months then approach the month of Hajj (pilgrimage) to the House of Allah (bayti Allahi al Haram). So just as “ Whoever fasts Ramadan and stands within it with faith and seeking a reward, all his past sins will be forgiven for him”, similarly: “ Whoever performs Hajj to the House of Allah and does not have sexual relations nor commit indecent acts, he will return (from Hajj) similar to the day his mother gave birth ”
Therefore, there is not a time that passes in the life of the believer except that there are specific actions of obedience designated by Allah upon His servants during that time. The believer revolves between these various times seeking a means of closeness to his Lord while in a state of hope and fear. The one who loves Allah does not become bored from seeking nearness to Him through voluntary actions, nor does he desire other than His nearness and pleasure.
He (author) later stated:
Ask Allah to make you firm upon (His) obedience until death approaches you, and seek refuge with Him from the changing of one’s heart and from wickedness after piety. How strange is shamefulness of sin after worthiness of obedience, and how strange is poverty of greed, after wealth of contentment!
He (author) later stated:
Oh youths of Tawbah (mature individuals who perform tawbah): Do not return to suckling from the breast of desire (hawaa) after you have weaned from it. Indeed breastfeeding is only befitting for babies and not for (grown) men, but one must be patient upon the bitterness of weaning. If you are patient in this matter the taste of desire (hawaa) will be substituted with the sweetness of faith (eman) in your hearts. Whoever abandons something for the sake of Allah, he will not miss that thing, and Allah will substitute it with that which is better. Allah says:
{If Allah knows that you have good present in your heart, He will give you better than what was taken from you and forgive you your sins} surah al Anfal:70
It is stated in a hadith: “ Verily the look (at what is haram) is an arrow from the arrows of Ibless (Shayton). If one abandons this look out of fear, Allah will replace it with sweetness in the heart” (recorded by Hakim and declared to be weak)
The youth are being addressed in this hadith, but as for the elder person, then he committing sins after completion of Ramadan is worse and more repulsive. This is because a young person may intend to repent toward the end of his life, and this is also dangerous because death may suddenly approach him, but concerning the elder person, his boat (of life) has docked at the pier of Manun (death), so what does he intend?!
These were just a few excerpts from this wonderful work (Lataif al Maa’rif) of Al Hafith ibn Rajab –may Allah have mercy on him.
May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon His last Messenger Muhammed, and upon his family members and companions.

Islam › Giving Zakatul Fitr With Money- Shaykh Albani by Amoto94(op): 6:38am On Jun 29, 2016

Giving money for Zakatul Fitr, Explained by Shaykh al-Albaani
The following is a summary translation
Translated by Rasheed ibn Estes Barbee

Questioner: At the end of the month of Ramadan there arises a difference of opinion concerning the payment of Zakat Al Fitr. Some of the people say it’s more beneficial to pay it with cash, and some of the Imaams say it is a must to pay it with the food known to the people. Thus what is your view on this?

Shaykh Al Albani: Some of the Imaams say what?

Questioner: They say it should be paid from the food known to the people of that country; such as wheat, and dates, etc…

Shaykh Al Albani: There is no doubt that those who hold the first view are incorrect. Those who say it is permissible to pay Zakatul Fitr with cash are incorrect because they have opposed the text. The hadith of the Messenger of Allah 'Alaihis Salaam which has been collected in the two books of Al Bukharee and Muslim, from the hadith of Abdullah ibn Umar ibn Al Khattab Radhiyallahu 'Anhuma. He said:

❝The Messenger of Allah Sallallahu 'Alaihi waSallam enjoined Zakatul Fitr, a saa’ of dates, or a saa’ of barley, or a saa’ of wheat.❞

The Messenger of Allah Sallallahu 'Alaihi waSallam specified that this obligation which has been obligated by the Messenger 'Alaihis Salaam in accordance with the command of his Lord given to him; is not in cash rather it is only from food which feeds the people of that country during that time period.

So the meaning of this hadith, the intent behind it is not entertaining the people—the poor and less fortunate—so they can wear new clothes, clean clothes etc. Rather the intent is only to suffice them of food and drink on that day and the days that follow the Eid. And when I say after the Eid I intend to say the day of Al Fitr is the Eid, as for the second day and the third day; then they have nothing to do with the Eid at all. Eid Al Fitr is only one day and Eid Al Adha is four days. Thus the intent behind the obligatory of Zakatul Fitr being from the customary food during these days is to suffice the poor and less fortunate on the first day of Eid Al Fitr; and whatever days come after that, whether they are many or a few.

When a person comes and says: No, giving the value of the food (money) is more beneficial for the poor; this person has erred twice.

The first error: He opposed the text and the religious issue. And this is the least of what can be said. But the second point is very dangerous. Because this means that the Wise Legislator—and He is the Lord of all that exists—when He revealed to His noble Prophet to obligate upon his Ummah feeding with a saa’ from food, He was not aware and He did not know what would be a benefit for the poor and less fortunate, like it is known by those who claim paying it in money is better.

If paying Zakatul Fitr in money was better it would be the foundation and food would be the alternative. Because the one who has money knows how to spend it according to his needs. If he is in need of food he buys food, in he is in need of drink he buys drink, if he is in need of clothes he buys clothes. Therefore why did the Legislator refrain from obligating the value, or Dirham, or Dinar and He obligated food? Therefore He has a purpose. Therefore He defined this obligation—which is food from the categories of food stated in the text of this hadith and others.

The deviance of some people from applying this text and exchanging it for paying in money is an accusation against the Legislator that He is not suitable to legislate; because their legislation is better and more beneficial for the poor. If this is the person’s intent, he disbelieves by this. But they do not intend this; but they speak with words which are the epitome of error. Therefore it is only permissible to pay it according to how the Wise Legislator prescribed it, and it is food under every circumstance.

And here is a point that must be mentioned. The legislator has obligated these various types of foods because they were known during the era of Prophethood and the message, but today there are foods which take the place of those foods. Today you do not find those who eat barley, rather you do not find those who eat wheat and grain. Because grain requires something else it requires a bread mill and it requires an oven, small or large, as it continues to exist in some villages.

When this food became abandoned and discarded it became obligatory to pay it with another type of food; not cash. This is because when we pay it with an alternative food we are in agreement with the legislation in what it has legislated from the various types of food known during that time period. As for if we say we will pay it with a substitute which is cash, then we are saying the Wise Legislator was not accurate in the legislation. Because we can all say with certainty that money has a broader use than food, but when we see that the Wise Legislator has obligated food, and we find that this particular food is not in use today, then it becomes a must to settle on an alternative food. Using as a substitute, rice—for example—which home is not in need of eating rice? No one; not the poor or the rich; therefore we alternate wheat for rice, or we substitute sugar for example, or similar foods.

It is found in some narrations dried yogurt, here it is called Jameed. It is possible that people are familiar with this food, but in reality as it relates to us in Syria, in the metropolitan areas Jameed is not known; but in many of the villages it is known. Thus if a person pays Zakatul Fitr with Jameed to some of the poor and less fortunate it will be completely suitable for them; but this requires some knowledge if the person uses Jameed or not. From what I see it is not predominantly used. It also appears in some of the texts of the hadiths, dates. But I believe in this country dates are not widely used as they are used in Saudi for example. Therefore, there his food is nutritious and perhaps it will be used as food for them and suffice them from many other types of food.

The important point: It is obligatory to begin, and the origin is to pay the Zakatul Fitr with the types of food mentioned in the texts of the hadtihs, and to not use others food as an alternative; except if the poor and less fortunate do not eat this type of food, such as the foods we mentioned, like dried yogurt and dates.
Likewise raisins for example; raisins are eaten among us, but what is it? It is not food today which is stored and used as a food. Thus it is better—we believe and Allah knows best—to pay it with rice and similar foods like we mentioned; or Freekeh (a cereal food made from green wheat). These foods are eaten by all classes of people.

This is the answer to your question my brother.

How to Pay Zakah on Ones’s Salary – Ibn Baz (rahimahullaah)
Zakaah on an Employee’s Salary – Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Azeez ibn Baaz
Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Azeez ibn Baaz (may Allaah have mercy on him) was asked:
There is a man who depends on his monthly salary; he spends some and saves the rest. How should he pay zakaah on this money?
He replied:
He should write down what he saves of his salary, and pay zakaah on it when one year has passed. Zakaah should be paid on the savings of each month when one year has passed. If he pays zakaah on the total in the first month, there is nothing wrong with that and he will be rewarded for that, and it will be regarded as zakaah paid in advance for the savings for which one year has not yet passed. There is no reason why a person should not pay zakaah in advance if he sees some benefit in doing so. But delaying it after the year has passed is not permissible, unless there is a valid shar’i excuse , such as the wealth not being available or there being no poor people. End quote.
Tuhfat al-Ikhwaan bi Ajwabah Muhimmah tata’allaq bi Arkaan al-Islam (question no. 12)
Here is an Answer from Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah :
If he insists on having all his rights and on not giving any charity to those who deserve it apart from what he is obliged to give, then he should make a schedule of his earnings and write down every amount and the date on which he took possession of it. Then he should pay zakaah for each amount separately when one year has passed from the date on which he took possession of it.
But if he wants an easier method, and wants to be more generous and give precedence to the poor and others who are entitled to zakaah over himself, then he can pay zakaah on all the money he possesses when one year has passed from the date when his wealth first reached the nisaab. This will bring a greater reward and raise him higher in status; it is easier for him and is more generous towards the poor and needy and others who are entitled to zakaah. Whatever extra amount he may pay will be regarded as a “down payment” on the zakaah for any wealth for which one year has not yet passed.

The young wing of the Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohaneze Ndigbo Youth Council, OYC, has warned the Niger Delta Avengers against plans to bomb Abia State.
The group said no IPOB/MASSOB member was being detained in the State as alleged by the rampaging group.
OYC, therefore, advised Avengers to settle for dialogue and allow peace to reign for the good of the people of Niger Delta and the nation at large.
In a statement signed by Israel Ogbonnaya and Chetachi Ikpe, Abia state chairman and the State secretary of the council, respectively, Ohaneze youths said, “we also call on the Niger Delta Avengers to sheathe their sword and drop threat to bomb and attack Abia state and other Niger Delta states.
“There is no IPOB/MASSOB detainee in Abia state. Finally, we recommend dialogue as the only means to address all contentious issues at stake”.

Islam › Menses And Fasting by Amoto94(op): 4:45pm On Jun 16, 2016
Menses & Fasting – Shaykh ibn Uthaymeen
It is unlawful for a menstruating woman to perform all types of fasting: obligatory or optional.
It is, however, obligatory to make up for the missed obligatory days of fasting as explained by ‘Aisha ( ﺭﺿﻲ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻨﻬﺎ ):
“We passed through this (period of menstruation), and we were ordered to complete (i.e., compensate) the fasts but we were not ordered to complete the prayers” (agreed upon Hadeeth) [34] .
If the woman encounters menses while fasting then her fasting is negated even if her blood flow occurs a moment before sunset. If this day is one of the prescribed days of fasting then she must make up for this day once she becomes clean . If on her day of fasting she feels she is about to have her menses but no blood flow actually occurs till after sunset, then her fasting is complete and is not negated in accordance with the right opinion about this matter.
This is because there is no ruling regarding blood inside the woman’s body and because the Prophet ( ﺻﻠﻰ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭ ﺳﻠﻢ) when asked:
“Is it necessary for a woman to take a bath after she has a wet dream (nocturnal sexual discharge)?”
he replied: “Yes, if she notices a discharge.” [35]
So, he ( ﺻﻠﻰ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭ ﺳﻠﻢ ) conditioned the ruling upon the actual seeing of the discharge and not upon its transfer (from inside-out). Similarly in the case of Haid, the ruling applies once there is an actual seeing of discharge.
Case: If a woman’s period continues till after dawn (Fajr), then no fasting will be acceptable from her on this day even if she becomes clean moments after dawn.
Case: If she becomes clean before Fajr and she fasted, then her fasting is correct even though she may have not taken her cleaning bath till after Fajr time. This is the same as in the case of the person who has Jannabah. If he (she) intends to fast and did not take his (her) bath until after Fajr, then his (her) fasting on this day is correct. This is in accordance with the Hadeeth of ‘Aisha ( ﺭﺿﻲ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻨﻬﺎ ) who said that:
“The Prophet ( ﺻﻠﻰ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭ ﺳﻠﻢ ) used to get up in a state of Jannabah (after sexual relations with his wives) and fast during the month of Ramadan.” [36]

[35] Saheeh Al-Bukhari (Arabic-English) V.1, P. 171-2, Hadeeth # 280.
[36] Aisha ( ﺭﺿﻲ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻨﻬﺎ ) said: “The dawn broke upon the Messenger of Allah (ﺻﻠﻰ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭ ﺳﻠﻢ ) during the Ramadan in a state of Jannabah not becuase of sexual dream

Question 10:
Suppose a woman becomes clean from her menses before Salat Al-Fajr but she took her bath after the commencement of the Salat time, and fasted that day. Is her fasting correct?
Answer by Shaykh Uthaymeen:
If a woman becomes clean during the month of Ramadan one minute before the commencement of the prescribed time of Salat Al-Fajr, then she must fast that day and her fasting is correct and it is not mandatory upon her to make up the fast because she fasted while she was clean even though she did not take her bath till after the rise of Fajr. This is similar to the case when a man has a wet dream or in a state of Jannabah. He can have his Suhor (meal before Fajr), fast and take his bath after Fajr.
I want to caution some women who may think that if they get their menses after breaking the fast and before Isha’ then their fasting was incorrect. This understanding is wrong. Their fasting is correct and complete even if they get their respective periods one moment after sunset (Maghrib).
***
Question 6:
A woman has reached sixty five years of age. She did not give birth to any child during the last nineteen years. For the past three years she had continuous bleeding. What should she do for fasting and what should women like her do (regarding Salat and Fasting)?
Answer by Shaykh ibn Uthaymeen:
This type of woman should refrain from fasting and Salat during the time of her regular cycle of menses. If for example she used to have her normal period of menses during the first six days of the month, then she should refrain from fasting and praying during the first six days of each month. Once that is done, she should take a bath and perform Salat and fast.
As to the how she offers her Salat, she should wash her private part real well and apply a pad to it and make ablution. She does this at the time of the obligatory prayers. She could also do the same for the optional prayers at times other than the times of the obligatory prayers.
Because of the difficulty encountered by such woman, it is allowable for her to combine (but not shorten) the Thuhr with the ‘Asr prayer (and pray either at time of Thuhr or at time of ‘Asr) and the Maghrib with the Isha’ (and pray either at time of Maghrib or at time of Isha’). This way she can do this type of preparation for her Salat three times (including one for Fajr prayer) instead of five times a day. She can perform optional prayers based upon her ablution for either of the combined prayers.
Question 5:
What should a woman do when she does not make up for the days she did not fast in Ramadan due to her menses?
Answer by Shaykh ibn Uthaymeen:
It is regrettable for something like this to happen amongst the believing women. This is either due to ignorance or laziness and both reasons are wrong! because the cure for ignorance is to ask those who know and the cure for laziness is the fear of Allah and His punishment. So a woman who may have done this should sincerely repent to Allah and seek His forgiveness. She should also try her best to find out the number of days she missed and make up for it. I ask Allah to accept the repentance of such women.

Islam › Seeking Forgiveness: The Cure For Individuals And Societies by Amoto94(op): 6:34am On Jun 14, 2016
Seeking Forgiveness: The Cure for Individuals and Societies – Al-Istiqaamah Magazine.
Al-Istiqaamah Magazine, Issue No.8 – Shawwal 1418H / February 1998
Allaah – the Most High – said:
“Seek Allaah’s forgiveness for your sins, Indeed Allaah is Most-Forgiving, Most-Merciful.” [Soorah an-Nisaa 4:106].
“Whosoever does an evil action, or oppresses his ownself through sinning, then seeks Allaah’s forgiveness, will indeed find that Allaah is Most Forgiving, Most-Merciful.” [Soorah an-Nisaa 4:110].
Imaam as-Sa’dee (d.1376H)- rahimahullaah – said:
“Whosoever commits an act of disobedience and plunges himself into sin, but then sincerely does istighfaar (seeks Allaah’s forgiveness) for it – which involves:- [i] affirming that it is a sin, [ii] having regret for doing it, [iii] abstaining from it, and [iv] having a firm resolve not to do it again – then such is the person who has the promise of Allaah’s forgiveness and mercy – and indeed Allaah never breaks His Promise. So Allaah will forgive the sinner, purify him of his sin, and accept from him those righteous action that he had previously done [before committing the sin] …And know that [the term] ‘evil actions’ include, in general, all acts of disobedience, whether minor or major. They are called ‘evil actions’ because of the terrible punishments that they necessitate, and because of their evil effects upon the soul. Likewise [the term] ‘oppressing oneself through wrong-doing’ includes the oppression of committing Shirk (directing worship, or any form of worship, to other than Allaah), as well as the [other forms of injustices] which are lesser than it. These two terms have also been explained in a way whereby one is inclusive of the other.
Evil actions have also been explained here to mean evil actions against people with regards to their blood, property or honour. Oppressing oneself through wrong-doing has [also] been explained here to mean those sins and acts of disobedience that a person commits against Allaah. It is called oppressing oneself because the person’s soul or life is not actually his property so that he may do anything that he likes with it. Rather, this life, or soul, belongs to Allaah – the Most High – Who has given it to the person as a trust, and commanded him to be just and to cling to the Straight Path, both in words and deeds, and has taught this soul what has been commanded for it and the actions that it is required to perform. So a person who does not cling to this [Straight] Path is actually oppressing his ownself, acting treacherously, and swerving from the path of justice and fairness; the opposite of which is injustice and oppression.”1
The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said:
“Allaah – the Most High – said: O son of Aadam, so long as you call upon Me and hove hope in Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Aadam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I would forgive you. O son of Aadam, were you to come to me with sins nearly as great as the earth and were you then to face Me, ascribing no partner to Me in the worship of Me, I would bring you forgiveness as great as it.”2
Allaah – the Exalted – also said about istighfaar:
“Allaah will not punish them whilst you (the Prophet ‘alayhis-salaam) are amongst them, nor will He punish them whilst they seek Allaah’s forgiveness.” [Soorah al-Anfaal 8:33].
Allaah informs us that there are two factors which are the cause of safety from the terrible punishment of Allaah, and would continue to be so as long as they are present in the Ummah: [i] the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam being amongst them, and [ii] their seeking Allaah’s forgiveness.
Ibn ‘Abbaas radiallaahu ‘anhu said:
“There are two [causes] why the people remained safe, [i] the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam living amongst them, and [ii] their seeking Allaah’s forgiveness. The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam has now departed, so all that remains is seeking Allaah’s forgiveness.”3
Thus, the more negligent we become in seeking Allaah’s forgiveness, the more we open up the doors of Allaah’s punishment; both to ourselves as individuals and to the society as a whole. So – O Muslims – let us be mindful!

Islam › Sinning While Fasting by Amoto94(op): 6:11am On Jun 06, 2016
Sinning while fasting [does it break the fast?]
It is reported that ‘Umar – Allâh be pleased with him – said:
Fasting does not mean keeping away from only food and drink, it also means keeping away from lying, falsehood, inanity and swearing [by Allâh without need].
It is reported that Ibrâhîm Al-Nakha’î – Allâh have mercy on him – said:
They used to say: lying breaks the fast.
It is reported that Mujâhid – Allâh have mercy on him – said:
There are two practices, if a person can keep himself from them, his fast will be secured for him: backbiting and lying.
It is related that Abul-‘Âliyah – Allâh have mercy on him – said:
The fasting person is in a state of worship as long as he does not backbite. [1]
It is reported that Hafsah bint Sîrîn – Allâh have mercy on her – said:
Fasting is a shield as long as one does not tear it, and tearing it is when you backbite. [2]
It is reported that Anas b. Mâlik – Allâh be pleased with him – said:
If the fasting person backbites, his fast is broken. [3]
Notes
Explaining the meaning of sins breaking the fast, Shaykh Al-Islâm Ibn Taymîyah – Allâh have mercy on him – states: [4]
It is related from some of the Salaf that backbiting, tale carrying and the likes break the fast, and it is mentioned as one opinion in the madhab of Imâm Ahmad. The final word on this issue is that Allâh the Exalted commanded people to fast in order to achieve piety (taqwâ), and Allâh’s Messenger – praise and peace of Allâh be upon him – stated:
Whoever does not leave off false speech and acting by it; then Allâh is not in need of him abandoning his food and drink.
So if the fasting person does not achieve piety, he has not achieved what is intended through fasting, and so the reward of [his] fast will decrease in accordance [with how much he has gone against the intended goal, i.e. commensurate with his sins].
Righteous deeds have two intended goals: gaining reward and avoiding punishment. If a person fasts while also doing forbidden things, like backbiting, carrying tales between people or consuming what is forbidden and so on, he loses the reward.
Thus, when the imams say [backbiting etc.] does not break the fast, it means that the person who sins is not punished in the way a person who openly breaks his fast would be punished.
And those who said it does break the fast in the sense that the person has not achieved the intended goal behind fasting, or in the sense that he has lost the reward for fasting, then this statement is in agreement with the position of the imams.
One who says it breaks the fast in the sense that the person is to be punished for leaving [the fast], then he is in contradiction to the imams.
Conclusion
A person who disobeys Allâh while fasting hasn’t truly grasped the intent behind fasting. The real goal is to achieve piety and obedience of Allâh through the abandonment of food, drink and sin. Although a person who backbites, lies or does other sins is not considered to have physically broken his fast, he loses the reward of fasting and in this sense he has broken his fast.
Allâh knows best.

Foreign Affairs › Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad: Architect Of Counter-terrorism Strategy by Amoto94(op): 8:56am On Apr 29, 2016
JEDDAH — Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Naif, deputy premier and minister of interior, is regarded as the architect of the Kingdom’s successful counter-terrorism strategy and modernizing the Kingdom’s security forces and enhancing its efficiency at par with world-class standard. He can rightly be called as the “Royal Military Commander.” This is because he has won two royal honors for his relentless efforts in combating terrorism, decimating Al-Qaeda in the Kingdom, and foiling several planned terror attacks and plots aimed at undermining the security and stability of Saudi Arabia.
Crown Prince Muhammad has possessed extraordinary caliber and wisdom as well as very good expertise in governance, handling security issues and taking prompt decisions and swift actions. The Kingdom’s security forces have achieved world class standard and professional expertise in confronting any potential threats, especially threats from the scourge of terrorism. He is leading the ministry in modernizing all its sectors and enhancing the efficiency and work performance of the staff, besides supervising the implementation of flawless and comprehensive strategies and plans by applying the highly advanced technologies and devices in combating terror.
The outstanding contributions of Crown Prince Muhammad in this regard have brought him laurels and honors not only from within the Kingdom but also from the region and the world as a whole. The latest of these honors include the naming as one of the “100 most influential people” by Time magazine recently. Earlier, he was honored with several prestigious awards, and these include King Faisal Sash, given by the late King Fahd, and King Abdulaziz Sash of the First Grade, granted by the late King Abdullah.
The credit for successful annihilation of Al- Qaeda in the Kingdom goes mainly to the Crown Prince. This made the terrorists target Prince Muhammad several times. He survived assassination bids at least four times at the hand of terrorists. He was slightly injured in one attempt, and unhurt in the others. The most dangerous attack was on 6 Ramadan 1430 (27 Aug. 2009) when a wanted terrorist exploded a suicide bomb, killing himself but slightly injuring the prince. The terrorist Abdullah Hassan Al-Asiri got permission to enter Prince Muhammad’s office at Jeddah palace after expressing his desire to turn himself in as part of the terrorist rehabilitation program, initiated by him. Asiri used an explosive device or body cavity bomb hidden inside his rectum. A terrorist group planned another failed assassination attempt during his visit to Yemen. None of these attempts had a demoralizing effect on the Crown Prince rather it stiffened his determination to stamp out terrorism. Crown Prince Muhammad has been instrumental in modernizing the capabilities of the security forces and strengthening the security apparatus so as to enable them to root out terror. He made successful efforts in unifying the command of various security forces and enhancing cooperation and coordination among security forces and agencies with civilian agencies in this regard. He also initiated measures to enact effective rules and regulations in line with the Islamic Shariah so as to enable the judicial authorities to take stringent penal actions against the perpetrators of terrorism and those associated with them. Moreover, strict restrictions were imposed in making, importing, selling, acquiring and using explosives, arms and ammunition.
The Crown Prince has also proved his leadership qualities through improving the capabilities and expertise of the security forces and other concerned personnel in confronting all the potential security threats, including terrorism. As part of this, a large number of security personnel have been sent abroad to receive specialized training besides holding such training programs within the Kingdom.
This also followed upgrading the security equipment, installations, and offices with introducing highly advanced technologies. The Crown Prince is also instrumental in the introduction of a wide variety of services and facilities for the benefit of citizens and expatriates from the Ministry of Interior. These include several online services, especially passport services, and the latest of which is the smart phone application of “Kulluna Amn” (All of us are for security). Under this app, any citizen or expatriate can inform the ministry, via voice message, image or video, about anything related to security, crimes or traffic. There are 39 operation rooms across the Kingdom that will swiftly act to address the information in a fully confidential manner.

Politics › Let's Talk About Bello's New Vision (not Troubles) - By Otori Ozigi by Amoto94(op): 10:16pm On Apr 26, 2016
Last week, the media space was awash with salacious and sensational stories of what the writers erroneously referred to as the “many troubles” of Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the dynamic executive governor of Kogi State, who is few days away to mark his highly eventful and impactful 100 days in office. Unknown to many of these writers, analysts and other public affairs commentators, the governor is too focused and deeply pre- occupied on his new vision and change mantra to transform his State and deliver on his numerous life-changing campaign promises, than to give his precious time, thoughts and resources to focusing on frivolous and inconsequential issues and events they claimed have constituted many troubles for him. For the avoidance of doubts, well-meaning people and other patriotic stake holders in Kogi project who have freely interacted with Alhaji Yahaya Bello since his historic inauguration in January 27, 2016, can testify that he is not troubled at all by the unending satanic antics and ill-conceived schemes of busy-bodies and other unpatriotic elements who seek to distract and discredit his administration at all cost. However, the point should be made unequivocally that the governor is fully optimistic and convinced that all these attempts to distract him would not stand the test of time as he is riding on the crest of his creator who chose him at a perilous time like this to come and deliver Kogi State from long years of misrule and visionless leadership. We are all fully aware that Kogi State had already become a failed State, given the unsettling scenarios and the parlous State of the economy of Kogi State, before the coming on board of Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello. The following context would suffice: I wonder what other name one would call a State that was owing about four months salary, arrears to her civil servants who were already on industrial action when Alhaji Yahaya Bello took oath of office on that fateful day at the capacity-filled Confluence Stadium in Lokoja, the State capital. This was a State that was bleeding from decayed and decaying infrastructure in every nooks and crannies of the 21 local government areas in the State. A state that the educational sector was in shambles and comatose after years of criminal neglects in the hands of those who chose to turn blind eyes to the glaring problems plaguing that critical sector. A state that local government workers had been turned into corporate beggars and miserable destitute, given that most of them were collecting ridiculous percentage of salaries for several years. This was a State that the health centers, hospitals and other related health facilities had become veritable “transit camps” for unfortunate patients on their ways to the mortuary and onward journey to their early graves. A State that the little resources available for development were been brazenly squandered and stolen by common criminals masquerading as civil servants and political office holders. This was a state being overrun by a band of rampaging dare devil kidnappers, armed robbers, ritualists, murderous Fulani herdsmen, assassins and other criminal elements that were giving the gallant officers of the security agents in the State a run for their money. If you walk into any police station in the State, available crime statistics on a monthly basis would shock you to the marrow. Kogi State had equally become a place with the highest number of uncompleted and abandoned white elephant projects that dot the landscape like shining stars in the night. Remember that most of these projects were supposed to be executed with loans reportedly sourced from financial institutions and other donor-agencies which would have to be repaid later whether we like it or not. This was a State that unbridled corruption and impunity haf become a way of life, given that every profession and its practitioners have joined the Olympic-type competitive thievery in the land. Available statistics from previous screenings and audit reports shows that there are white-collar criminals everywhere in all the 21 local government areas in the state. This was a state that the army of unemployed youths and young women keep swelling by the day. It is on record that previous youths and women empowerment programmes inaugurated to tame the monster of unemployment in the past failed to achieve desired results. This was a state that all efforts and policies undertaken by previous administrations to make agriculture a viable business and attractive to the teaming population of idle youths became a reference point in corporate failure. This was a State that successive governments have continued to pay lip service to pressing needs to diversify the economy of the state, to cushion the negative impact of dwindling allocations from the federation account. This was a state that all previous attempts to develop a robust tax administration system have proved futile, given that there are gaping loop-holes and leakages in the tax system that have been left unplugged for so many years. Little wonder therefore that Kogi State have maintained a comfortable position in the comity of states with meager internally generated revenues in the country with monthly miserable IGR put in the region of 500 million naira as at December 2015. This was a state with unhealthy enabling environment to attract local and foreign investments to grow the economy for the general good of the people. From available official records obtained exclusively by this writer, there are no fewer than forty dormant MOUs signed by the previous governments with potential investors that were not fully consummated or actualized as at December 2015. Viewed against these backgrounds therefore, it is clear to discerning minds that these challenges and many more not captured in this write up, are what the Yahaya Bello-led administration is dealing with in his spirited efforts to make a difference by giving Kogi State a befitting new name to bear. It is worthy of note that in almost the last 100 days, the governor has successfully stabilized the turbulent polity he inherited from previous administration of Captain Idris Wada. Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello is also working tirelessly to clean up the age-long mess and rot he inherited in the civil service system that had constituted a clog in the wheel of progress and and a formidable road block in our march towards economic prosperity and growth. So far, the governor has demonstrated his capacity and capability to giving back the State to the people; from the vice-grip of those can rightly be called 'Kogi criminals' who turned the State to their cash cow over the years. In conclusion therefore, it is pertinent for us to talk about Yahaya Bello’s new vision and not imaginary troubles concocted to divert our attentions from real critical issues in the polity.
