One_Naira: It depends on what nation
In UK and Ghana, there are more Yoruba than Igbo In Middle East, more Hausa than Igbo or Yoruba In the US and China, there are more Igbo than Yoruba. There are more Igbo than Yoruba in Ghana. The only West African country that Yorubas outnumber Ndigbo is Benin Republic. This is as a result of some indigenous Yoruba population in that country. Minus the native Yorubas there, Ndigbo are larger than them. |

Princek12: Yoruba is more influential in Yankee, too, and in many European countries. And the fact that Timaya presently resides in Lagos still does not change the fact that he was neither born nor raised in Lagos. Are just joking or what?. Even in America that Ndigbo outnumbers the Yorubas x3. Please do not go there. |

Abagworo: @Andre. I have heard severally from non-Nigerians about how stubborn we can be during arguments. We never concede even when the evidence is too glaring. I do not expect Solomon "Mgbojume" to accept a glaring truth.
Linguist have come to study Ika language and could not link it in any way to Edo. They could not even get as much difference as to declare it a distinct language. They only accepted that the mutual intelligibility is reduced to around 80% which is usually so in boundary communities of different ethnic groups as a result of influence. Ika was grouped as a separate dialect in Igbo.
Historically, the custodian of Ika culture is the traditional ruler. He has said that their roots are firmly Nri in Anambra and accepted influence from Benin and other cultures. He did not deny some families being from Benin but he made it clear that they were already settled as Nri community before those people arrived.
I for once am not a party to forcing ethnicity on anyone but it bothers me when someone desperately denies his roots as a reason. Agbotaen can safely say, even though I speak Igbo and our Obi believes we are of Igbo descent, I prefer being Ika without Igbo attached.
That way, we all go and respect each others views. May your days be long. |

Princek12: Timaya, the son of Bayelsa, uses Yoruba in his songs. He was neither born nor raised in Lagos. Timaya was not born or raised in Lagos, yea, right. But Timaya resides in Lagos now. Even at that, Ogologo mma agha and other songs Timaya sang in Igbo are hit songs, yet he is not Igbo neither has he resided in Igboland before. Once again I maintain that musicians who sang in Yoruba or chip in Yoruba are the ones in Lagos or raised in Lagos. Secondly, The U.K is the only place Yoruba language is more influential than others. |

agbotaen: many owa people were not too comfortable with what our obi wrote on owa history, they felt he was influenced by prof.owunjeogu. so they asked a team to write and they came out with ndiowa and her monarch,1999+s. Why are Bini people not comfortable with Oba Erediuwa's account of Bini history?. The Oba of Bini and the Obi of Owa has written accounts of origin of their people as handed over to them from generation to generation. Believe me, the Gods are wise. By the way, any evidence to prove that Ndiowa are not happy with what the Obi wrote?. |

@WHOEVER is posting those videos. Stop wasting your time posting those videos. It doesn't win you this arguement. A couple of years ago, I attended a Church in Tottenham London. The choir group in that church sang mostly in Efik as the founder is Efik. This choir group consists of Sierra leoneans, Liberians, Ndigbo, etc. Would I at this instance say Efik is the mostly influential language outside Nigeria?. |

Governor BABATUNDE FASHOLA, IBIKUNLE AMOSUN, KAYODE FAYEMI, OLUSEGUN MIMIKO, ABIOLA AJIMOBI, RAUF AREGBESOLA
Coincidence, that the Yoruba Governors bar one, if they had a foreign name relegated it to the middle name and trumped up their native names? Kanu, I agree with you here. This is an Igbo weakness. But I disagree with some brainless posts here suggesting that all Nigerian musicians sing in Yoruba or chip in Yoruba in their songs. INCREDIBLE. |

Ayo-olu12: Don't expect honest answers from some people here. It's a well known fact that Yorubas reside outside and inside nigeria are very ethnocentric, passing on their language to their children. However, there are some tribes who without even stepping on the shores of the western world quickly distance themselves from their language and traditional names ( you'll hear My name is agatha, cynthia, susan, ) even though their accent is so thick it can be cut with a knife!, just go to lagos and see what i mean. You will not find a yoruba child who doesn't speak or at least understand Yoruba.
But as i said at the beginning, some people are the masters of denial and delusion. They will never admitt to anything good about Yoruba I have dictated another fallacy here. I do not know why some people are born to lie. How many Yorubas born in the U.K speak and understand Yoruba. The ones I know do not speak Yoruba. Some of them who do and the ones their parents sent back to Nigeria to spend some years and then back to the U.K. Even in Ibadan, I know some Yoruba kids who reside in places such as New Bodija and attend such schools as Int Sch Ibadan who do not speak Yoruba. |

Βουκέφαλος: you should try and listen to flavor and bracket again before you jump on the computer. I do listen to those musicians more than you. I listen to Igbo music and know Igbo musicians than you. Nigerian musicians who chip in Yoruba or sing in Yoruba is either born in Lagos or reside in Lagos. Why is it difficult for people to understand this. Does Victor Uwaifor sing in Yoruba, how about Nkem Owoh, Patience Ozokwor, Sir WARRIOR etc. The problem with you guys is your inability to step foot outside Yorubaland. Just tell me musicians from the east who do not reside in Yorubaland that sings in Yoruba. |

ChinenyeN: Ngwa: ukhoru is corn In Isinweke, corn is Ukworu. Very similar to what is called in Ngwa dialect. Ngwa people may have originally migrated from Isinweke. This is just a personal opinion which I have not discussed with anyone nor seen any research to think so. I know that there is a community called Umungwa just 3 miles east of Isinweke. Could it be the place Ngwas migrated from?. |

Βουκέφαλος: Every KNOWN Niaja musician has a yoruba language in his/her music. if Yoruba is not that influential. why include it in their song, I mean ALL of our musicians ALL. You guys should stop displaying further ignorance in this thread. Musicians from the North never used Yoruba etc, Zaki Azzay, Dan Jos etc. In the east, none of them used Yoruba, Osadebe, Oliver de coque, Ras kimono, Rex Lawson. Even the mothern day ones now such as bracket, Duncan Mighty, Flavour, etc do not use Yoruba. Those who use Yoruba are either raised in Lagos or reside in Lagos. |

swezenberg: It is true that for any song to sell in Nigeria there must be a bit of Yoruba in it. Most artiste in Nigeria find it hard to sell without chipping in Yoruba. I think this can be attributed to the ease of learning the language and the fact that it blends with the modern music of today. May be I should consider the fact that most artiste gain their popularity in the predominantly Yoruba region-Lagos
For the number of Yorubas out there I don't know but all I know is that I have met a lotof Yorubas and Igbos in the state. The Yorubas are very inelligent while the igbos are enterprising.
As for the Hausas, I don't know much The bolded is a plural lie. Some of the non Yorubas who add in Yoruba into their songs are the one who reside in Lagos or was raised in Lagos. Musicians east of the Niger do not add any Yoruba to their songs and they sale million copies. Does Sunny Bobo add Yoruba to his music?. How about Ababa Nna, Omega Boy, Saro Wiwa Wis boy, Don Tom, Agbaso, Bracket etc. In a related development, Yorubas who have added Igbo to their songs have sold millions of copies e.g D-Banj' Igwe song as well as Midnight crew's gospel song Igwe. Check it out. |
