shocked 15 minutes? Shocking but not surprised. On a good day (well from 5am daily) it's roughly 30-45 minutes to Lekki Roundabout undecided

Well a new fly over is being built who knows it might be back to those days again.... maybe this time 20 minutes tongue but then lots of people would start flooding that area from Mainland grin and its back to status quo
Yeah 15 mins to Sangotedo was slightly stretching it but that was the norm to Ajah and enviorns in the 90's when their were less people and more importantly less roundabouts. (not to mention toll gates)......you'd simply cut across to the other side of the road to where ever you wanted to get to.

Where's the flyover being built ?? And I hope it won't be another phantom project like the coastal road.

I appreciate your contributions so far. can u link me up with any reasonable agents at ketu/ojota.I don't want the ones with big cutlass.I await your response. thanks
Don't know of any personally in that area- but when I was house hunting I used the website which bigtt76 pointed out and others plus the nairaland property section- the agents on all of these sites tend to be the same and fair to a point. Just tell them the amount o fmoney you have and that you don't intend to go beyond that budget.

On the other hand I find that the cheapest way is always to identify someone whom you know that lives in the area you want to move to and get him to link you to the local agent as that cuts out the agent-agent middlemen that you get with these online sites.

Please guys, how much will one spend from sangotedo to bar beach towers area of Victoria island and backwards daily. Thanks for your kind comments.
From Chevron area it was about N100 to get to law school- so I think from your side if you can find a straight bus it should be either N150-N200 to get to law school. From the top of Adetokunbo Ademola you should be able to get you a keke that will take you to the roundabout for N50 naira. Once at the roundabout take a bus going to Costain and tell him you are dropping at Towers. That's another N50.

Seems a bit long so another way might just be instead of dropping at law school you drop at Bonny camp (which I believe would mean paying the full fee for the CMS bus you take from lekki). Then using a keke or bus from Bonny which would only take N50 to get you to Towers.

Going home you'll find will be more straight forward as you are going with traffic.

thank u all for advice. I am yet to pay the rent av tried all efforts to get a room in Yaba with my 200k to no avail. some one advise I can get a good self con at Ketu.that is y I intend to make the ketu decision. meanwhile am married with a kid.I will very much appreciate your useful suggestions. thanks
Lol

Yaba is where I currently live now and though I prefer it to Ojota because it is more "lively" and more central in a way- Ojota/Ketu is far better value for money in every way.

Firstly transport fees is practically the same to VI- no saving there. Light is far worse over here in Yaba compared to the way I was spoilt in Ojota (it was like living in London after the useless ordeals one went through in Lekki, though I hear it has improved now). The savings on generator fees alone will always make me remember Ojota fondly and convenience of having stable light could mean a lot to a young family and a little child.

For the amount you have, you would have serious difficulty getting a self-con at that price in a good area in Yaba- but if you are willing to pay for 2 years and add agency (200±200+100), you can get in areas like Akoka and Fola Agoro- but Akoka is becoming something else with these useless cult boys and I would not advise this.

Anyway your 200k would get you a bigger and probably more respectable place in Ojota/Ketu and the landlords there are less greedy and willing to take 1 year rent.

From what you have said so far, I think you are on the right path with choosing the Ketu axis.

I know but if you look closely I say 5am on the dot!

I've done this several times and to think that I stayed even further down from Chevron, VGC to be precise Sangotedo area. So no fears about it.

I would prefer leaving 5am from this area to leaving Mainland at same time.
I didn't argue with your 5am assertion- I feel its just overkill as I do believe in a healthy work life and real life balance.

Anyway I am one of those people who gets really angry when I think about the current situation in Lekki- probably because I remember the days of leaving VI and getting to Sangotedo in an average of 15 minutes- and that was at normal speed!!

It angers me the little attention that has been payed to that place by the State and FG while they have fully 100% exploited the people who are in my opinion unfortunate to call that place home.

Androblaze.how much do u spend to and fro vi.thanks
How much did I use to spend? I mean I have been away from Ojota for almost 2 years now so my recollection might not be accurate.

Ok- I believe BRT was about N80 to get you to CMS (the trick is making sure you buy bulk tickets in advance so would not looking for them every morning which could slow one down) and then a 100 naira normal bus to Eko Hotel as I worked around that area (N100 was the same charge for Adeola Odeku). If you get to Marina late or there is rain or any other emergency the useless drivers and touts could then decide to charge N150.

Going back in the evening was always longer and more expensive but I would ususally get a bus to Costain (N100 - 150) then once in Costain a bus to Ketu ( N100- 150). Now I must say people complain about saftey in Costain during the evenings but in my 2 years of doing that journey- nothing ever happened to me.

When you are more familiar with VI you will find out that you can get straight buses to Ketu for around N150- N250 from some areas like Sanusi Fafunwa and I think Adeola Odeku and they would usually go through 3rd mainland- another route that has it's own advantages/disadvantages.

So don't be worried, your destination is popular for people living in Ketu and you'll soon devise the best means that suites you to and fro. In fact I won't be surprised that within a month you get a car buddy that you just hitch a ride with either in the mornings or evenings.

Both. Why don't you consider staying at Ajah area? Though both sides are similar traffic wise but Ajah area you can be sure of getting to work latest 6.30am when u leave home at 5am
Hmmm not sure this is good advice.

Sometimes I would stay with my family in Lekki (Chevron side which is far closer to VI than Ajah) and I was always surprised that I would end up at work late everytime- compared to leaving from the mainland.

The truth is that if you get caught up in Lekki's mad rush hour (leaving the house at 6.15 -6.30) you won't make it at 8 am while on the other hand I could leave Ojota at that time and still make it to VI before 8am.

Lekki's rush hour is unforgiving while mainland traffic is very predictable and steady.

To cut the long story short, mainland is far more advisable and this comes from an Eti Osa son to the core.

please is it with BRT or normal Lagos Bus
You don't need to leave the house by 5am. Being at the BRT stop by 5.30 should mean you should make work latest 7.30 and even 7am most times. But if you are aiming for 8am then make sure you are at BRT stop latest by 6 am. This was my experience when I use to live in Ojota.

A good writeup and it does get you thinking- but nowadays I find my self mulling more on the true benefits of this unbridled democracy being campaigned for all over the world and what comes to my mind is Fela's words " democracy... demonstration of craze" because if we are all not CRAZY I wonder how people can defend:

1. The right to give bail to people who made money from the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocents, sentenced others to death for not fighting a war they were not armed for; while we hear stories from our judiciary of people being sentenced to hanging for stealing mobile phones with the use of village daggers!!

2. The right of Trump to be a hypocrite and spoil all Republican hopes of the Presidency and be celebrated for saying things "everyone is thinking, but afraid to say." It makes me wonder if people think our Creator made a mistake by allowing us to have a mind that thinks in silence separately from our mouth that vomits all openly.

3. The rights of women to wear Hijab despite the current reality that faces us where virtually all Boko Haram's suicide bombing are carried out by girls under the age of 14 wearing this item of cloth.

4.The right of anyone, again in this current reality and after experiencing many sour episodes in the past, to freely block the road all in the name of a ritual and religious fervour?

Clearly the writer is well educated and cannot claim to be ignorant.... but it seems that to be termed a "democrat" all you need to do is suspend "common sense" and agree that everyone has can do what ever they want including clearly criminal and detrimental acts (i.e . GEJ)

In short I prefer the Dubai and China approach any day, any time.

nnachukz:
This man is unknown jor. Catch Amaechi and Co and I will take you serious.
A clear example of why they cannot progress - because naturally they are too selfish and singularly think of only what "concerns" them and their region alone.

For other true Nigerians- Jafaru Issa is a well known Buhari loyalist and in fact was the cause of the biggest political disagreement CPC had in 2011 when Mohammed Abacha used money and notorious popularity to beat Issa in the Kano CPC primaries and emerge the CPC gubernatorial aspirant. Buhari and other the top echeleon of the CPC could not accept "this Abacha" playing such a prominent role and changed his name with Issa which caused a huge backlash and went all the way to the top courts. Anyway, CPC which was wildly popular in Kano and tipped to win that election lost it and almost everyone agrees that if they had fielded Mohammed Abacha, they would have won it with a landslide. Buhari knew this, yet did not care.

The love is also returned by General Issa and can be seen from what he says about Buhari in 2014 in this article

PoliticsRe: Cost Of One Barrel Of Oil In Nigeria Is $32 - CNN by AndroBlaze: 7:17pm On Dec 30, 2015
tuale4u:
The IPOB guy did not understand the budget. let me help him explain.

Why Oil revenue in 2016 budget is just 820 billion naira? An Explanation!!

1. The Federal government budget is the Budget of the federal government alone. Not the Budget of the country.
Thus from the Nigeria sharing formula, the Federal government takes about 54% of the total oil revenue accruing to the country (Nigeria Federation).

2. Most of the oil production in Nigeria are JV and PSC. Using the JV template, Nigeria (the federation not Federal govt) only owns 60% of the oil produced and the Oil companies owns the remaining 40% of the oil produced per day .

thus the 2.2 million per day, only 0.6*2.2million=1.32million belong to Nigeria (The federation).

Federal govt share (Potential) = 0.54*1.32million=712,800 per day.

3. The actual average production per day is about 80% of the Potential production
this is because of 20% shutdown for maintenance, unplanned shut downs, pipeline vandalisation etc.

Thus the Federal govt actual average production per day = 0.8*712,800=570,240.

4. Today the average cost of production per barrel in Nigeria is about $18 per barrel.
Actually some onshore field cost are as low as $10 per barrel while some deep offshore and shallow offshore cost are as high as $25 dollar per barrel. Today more than 60% of Nigeria crude are from Offshore. thus using an average cost of $18 per barrel is realistic considering also "carry agreement" (to be explain in the last paragraph) which Nigeria have with oil company.

According to CNN the operational cost of one barrel of oil in Nigeria is $15 while the capital cost is $16 making a total cost of $31.
While operational cost is daily cost, Capital cost is not. Capital cost are usually recovered within 2 to 3 years. However since capital investments are mostly in form of carry agreement, giving it a 20% cost of capital cost ($3) is reasonable. Thus we can use daily cost of ($15+$3=$18)

Thus out of the $38 dollar per barrel price of oil, the net revenue to the govt is about $20 per barrel. (Selling price ($38) minus Cost price ($18) = $20)

thus the expected revenue to federal government from direct sales of Crude oil in 2016 is:

= $20 *199naira/1$ *570240*366*billion/1000000000= 830billion naira

From my estimation the Federal government expected revenue from direct oil sales is about 830billion naira which is very close to 820 billion naira estimated from federal government.

However, this is not all the federal govt get from having oil in this country. The oil companies pay company tax in hunderds of billion of naira.
But the govt choose to call it company tax because other companies that are not oil companies pay tax too. However the company Tax of oil companies is about 85% of their profit. Thus of the about 1.5 trillion naira expected revenue from Company Income Tax (CIT), Value Added Tax (VAT), Customs and Excise duties, and Federation Account levies, about 50% of it are coming from oil companies.

Also another reason the govt is not getting much more currently from Direct oil sales is because of "Carry agreement"
Most of the recent oil development and investment in the last ten years on JV contract are mostly done on "Carry agreement".

Carry agreement is the contract between the govt through NNPC and Oil companies whereby the Oil companies provide all the fund to invest in new field development (Instead of NNPC providing 60% of the cost), and then the companies recover their money by collecting part of the federal govt oil share over time. That means some of the oil that would have got to the Federal govt today have been collected by the federal govt ahead of time in the past. So they get less today.
Oga are you Kachikwu!!!

Kai, I have never seen such an in-depth explanation- enough tuales for your sir !

To be honest I have not followed the flow of the discussion, but if some of us think that posting false or misleading information will "help" so that banks don't increase their rates, it quite naïve and shows a poor understanding of how our (or any) financial system works.

Anyone with insider knowledge of the banking system in Nigeria will tell you that setting rates is far more complicated than hearing on Nland your competitor's price- one main reason being banks already know this info.

So please people feel free to be your brother's keeper and post correct rates, information is an ally in uncertain times, not the other way around. Also, more grease to everyone's elbow that this thread is still running strong, a shame though that the first page is no longer updated.

LOL

Youths should then ask General Joshua Dongoyaro where he and IBB's Formula One government of 8 years took us to. Or better yet they should ask there parents which time was better for Nigeria, was it Buhari's slow paced 2 years or IBB's one week one trouble 8 years.

Honestly Nigerian Youths have no excuse to be making the same mistakes as the generations that ruined us. We have too much evidence to show that playing to the media gallery like the IBBs and PDP governments we have been witnessing and refusing to make hard choices will eventually achieve nothing. How many abandoned and failed government projects do we have under those fast paced governments? Look at how the naira has devalued under those fast paced governments? What was ultimately the legacy of those fast paced governments? Is it GSM as OBJ loves to claim.

The USAs and the UKs did not get to where they are by using shortcuts- hard decisions must be made by governments and any government who fails and is scared of making hard decisions will get themselves overtaken by events- which really is just anarchy. For a recent example look at Lagos under this clown named Ambode.

My prayer is God will only allow us to have serious leaders in Nigeria from now to kingdom come !!
