These ones dey complain of matches... When we already import toothpicks, every drug and vitamin, spices (Yeah, even spices), etc.

Just wait till we start importing Oloshos.

The day I saw supplements made purely from Bitter leaf extracts, imported from Europe, was when I knew this nation was truly gone. cry

As in... People come from Europe, carry our very own Bitter leaf take do supplement, then send back to us to purchase and drink for blood sugar control and whatnot. Shame! undecided

Did 600 Israelites not die ?
How many Palestinians died in return??!

Do the math.

Still begs the question about the point of such an exercise in futility.

put it properly, court wedding is non-negotiable because that is what confirms marriage. every other thing is just ceremonial, tradition o, custom o, church o, mosque o, shrine o
Yeah... You are right.

Still, traditional wedding over the others, as that confirms you have gotten the approval from her family... Most courts will ask you this.

Another excuse for the clueless government to hide under...! grin

Buhari had so many, back in the days:

1. Jonathan and PDP

2. COVID-19

3. EndSars

4. Ipob and Nnamdi Kanu

5. Snakes and Monkeys

6. Ukraine war with Russia

7. American elections

Etc...

Every year, new excuse for failure.

is there a way one can bypass tradition and do just court wedding?
I doubt it, except you wish to marry without her parents' approval, which I will never advise.

Once there is understanding on the part of both parents and families, the traditional process can be made moderate, and the groom shielded from so many expenses.

With good understanding, the traditional process can even be done quietly inside the bride's father's house with just one or two witnesses.

Court wedding is definitely non-negotiable, especially for documentation purposes.

Mine was moderate (Her father was a learned man who didn't bend to such nonsense).

My close friend's case was not so lucky... He spent over 1.5 Million. I kid you not.

The sole reason for nysc is to try new places new people and new language for one to understand how diverse the country is. It’s just like being in school, just like South Korea mandates you to go to the army for 1 year
That's lame... This is not South Korea.

Let the scheme be optional and not mandatory if we wish to retain it.

If given the option, many graduates won't risk traveling that far in the name of learning new languages or knowing new people... Such things are not the cup of tea of everyone.
NYSC › Re: Opinion: NYSC Has Outlived Its Usefulness by Angelfrost(m): 1:44pm On Oct 11, 2023
NYSC is clearly and obviously 10 years past its expiration date at the very least.

That nonsense scheme should have been scrapped even before the first Corps member was maimed and killed in the North by head-slamming supporters of Northern presidency. cry

At this point, we are just sacrificing and putting the lives of young graduates on the line, all in a bid to keep feeding the lie that the nation is still bound by a phantom unity.

Yeah, well... It doesn't matter who is backing them or not backing them... No one is truly openly going against them, the same way no one can boldly go toe to toe against Russia or China.

So, Palestine will never be a match for Israel. They should find another path and permanently end this ridiculously protracted war. It has cost them so much, with next to nothing to show for it.

sad Even though I'm a born again Christian, we Christians condemn the brutality of Isreal against Gaza. No sane Christian should support the bombing of children and innocent women. We nigerian Christians stand with and will continue to pray for the Palestinians. sad
That statement in BOLD clearly validates the fact that you are definitely not a Christian... I can almost wager my yearly income that almost no Nigeria Christian stands with Palestine.

Even the most radical clergyman won't even dare raise a prayer point for Palestine in his church. grin

Lol. The war will not end today. Israel will settle for peace after they feel they have killed enough. Then the Palestines that survive, the children will grow up to become the next ruthless sect. Guess what, the cycle will continue…
Palestinians have remained the main losers for almost a century... Consistently going against Israel has never helped them, and will never help them.

The future leaders need to seek a better path.

Israel has all the resources and crazy fire-power to keep dealing ruthlessly with them for several generations to come.

If we talk, they start cursing us and calling us "White man's Slaves".

In this same Nigeria, certain cultures and traditions permit the maiming and even killing of kids accused of witchcraft... It is the same nation where cultural traditions turn a simple wedding ceremony into one of the most ridiculous forms of EXTORTION ever known to man.

I have nothing against trying to uphold or preserve our age-long traditions, but some or most aspects of these traditions have to be modified, as a matter of urgency... This is the age of advancement, for Pete's sake.

Yeah, few pull it off, but most always make a mess of it.

I can't help but feel sorry for the unemployed people who never supported this useless government.

My advice is make serious effort to create value that others can pay for... Cos those you want to depend on or have been depending on are currently suffering under this shocking inflation.

I am literally tired of complaining about our societal ills, so I mostly just read through the slew of bad news these days, satiate my eyes with the retinue of comments on nairaland and elsewhere, then return to my hustle.

We seem to be a country that is proficient at making all the wrong choices, only to rue the situation with all the right words afterwards.
Your last paragraph just summarized Nigeria's state in the last 10 years.

Yeah, you are right about taking the fifth on these things for the sake of one's mental health.

Like I told someone earlier... The only help God can render is not to make Nigeria better, but help the few wise ones survive and thrive in Nigeria.

It's now officially Survival of the Financially Fittest.

No, wailing won't make Nigeria develop...!

It is sugarcoating lies and self-deceit along with sycophancy that will move Nigeria forward... That's why Buhari succeeded far better than Jonathan and Obasanjo combined.

In my habitual midnight research, I stumbled on a piece of news last night that this government has been able to pay off a certain 2billion dollar debt owed to China and India, and has equally serviced another loan with almost a billion dollars.

I don't know the veracity of the claim as I had other interests in mind and didn't bother to dig it further for more details. But if it is true, that would be something to at least cheer for. Our debts are suffocating us to the marrow.
That's a very huge "IF".

Here is another reality check... Even if 80% of our creditors decide to write off our debts today, what is the assurance that these dull leaders won't triple the debt profile in 2 leadership cycles?!!!

Nigerians must learn by force, even the uneducated amongst us, including the unfortunate bigots... That Leadership is no one's birthright, and it is distinctively different from winning elections.

Government wan release how they disbursed the money now... You're still wailing

Chai!!
Maybe you have forgotten what Tinubu himself vomited during campaign... Let me help your short memory:

"Na Statistics we go chop?!!"

The government can release or withhold records... It means nothing. An average needs results! I can't stress this enough.

My former boss always said... "Explaining the process is great, but without positive results (profits), you have done NOTHING. This is business! Don't explain why you failed, sort yourself out and produce results."

I live by such words everyday... You should demand more from those you elected.

Call me wailer from now till your childish brain is satisfied... It doesn't affect me. It won't change the reality staring at everyone.

You insulted people, calling them wailers for 8 years under Buhari... Where did it end?!! What improved in the nation?!!.

Let's quit such childishness abeg.
