One thing very consistent in any of these accounts is that the coup plotters were contrary to the celebrated politician- Awo, Zik., Belewa and Abubakar were the true nationalist. The politician played ethnic politics ruined the country and left the country in despair.

these young educated military officers attempted to correct this. most of whom were university graduate from UI and England. They were bright, politically exposed and can understand socio-political and economic dynamics- exactly what university dose to you compared to mere military school. In the words of Babagida, it was poorly executed. they wanted to liberate the western region from the control of Akintola and the prime minister, the UNPD, NNA and NPC, the corruption, the murder, the rigging etc.. They had good intention but they failed. The same nationalistic spirit was what drove Ifeajuna to seek peace to avert the death of many. unfortunately, he lost both ways. He was the ideologist behind the January 1966 coup

Read these accounts from multiples sources, you will simply be sad and wonder why the politician turned it around and called it an Ibo coup when the large number of NCOs who executed the coup where northern. only the officers where largely Igbo.

its was filled with miscalculation. May be if the high ranking officers in each zones in the military were in unison concerning the coup i think,we wont have had a civil war... But tribalism was already rooted in the military i wonder why ifeajuna and co were not smart enough to know that people will easily termed what they did as a form of tribe-cleansing...

I just said i lost so many would be uncles and aunties due to that senseless civil war...
My dad was not even up to 18 when he was forced into the biafra army... Thank God he and some of his siblings survived, war is crazy... Sometimes he cried while recounting some events..

well the Nigerian army would still have attacked biafra it was just a matter of time, but if ojukwu had not attack the west may be the US or Russia would have supported their breakout... But am sure the Brits wont have supported the breakout,everything was a gamble..

But ojukwu did not do well by running away,how can a general do that after wasting millions of lifes.. Why did he fight in the first place if he did not believe in biafra to the point of death...

Another problem biafra face was in-house betrayals.. Some igbo states never fully supported the war and most of the riverine communities were Pro-Nigeria...

My late father was part of the troup led by Victor Banjo, one of the other 3 executed with Ifeajuna.

Ojukwu took one of d greatest gambles of the Civil war by putting Victor Banjo, a Yoruba man, in charge of the troup dat was on conquest to Lagos. Banjo got through to Awolowo when the troup approached Ore after over running Benin.

Banjo negotiated a cease fire and d journey on a conquest to Lagos was halted allowing time for d Federal troup to regroup and repel the Biafran soldiers.

The war would have ended in less than 3months had Banjo nt betrayed Ojukwu.

Emmanuel Ifeajuna was also implicated in the case and all four had to die.

this story is so sad damn,, hollywood need to produce a movie about this man...

Whats wrong with some of our NIGERIAN gals/ladies. Yesterday i invited a lady friend to a newly opened fast food, i told her to come alone .. She later came with six of her friends... I was like 'is this lady dump or crazy' thats the second time it has happened this year...
