A friend of mine recently got married to a guy she dated for 7years.
Five years into the relationship, she broke up with him because he refused to go above OND while my friend was in her 400level. She then started dating a guy who graduated with a strong 2.1
One year and six months later, 2.1 graduate was still jobless, she was fed up.
Luckily for her OND guy and his family hadn't given up on her (the girl is homely, smart, decent and honest. Plus investment must not waste )
Her story came up in a conversation yesterday and I realized most of my friends had guys they really liked but said no to because of educational difference. (masters-OND, B.sc-NCE, that kind thing)
My question is, if it is okay for a man to date/marry a woman he is academically/financially higher than, what is wrong with a woman doing same Sebi all of us are screaming 'gender mainstreaming'?

I sang it with all my heart believing the words to be true. I believed that I have to serve Nigeria with love and strength and faith so that the labours of our heroes past will not be in vain. O'lboy, what hogwash!

Growing up I realised that I was hoodwinked. Our heroes past never laboured, they actually were elites who had all the best things in life. Our present heroes are no different. They eat 1 million naira worth of food everyday where I'm still wondering where my breakfast will come from.

Their children - who are the real leaders of tomorrow (another lie I was told was that I'm the leader of tomorrow) - didn't school in the schools I went to. Rather, they were in ivy league colleges abroad. Back then, I was told that electricity will be constant by december, but I found out that while the month don't usually change, the year changes. So instead of constant electricity by December 1986, it became December 1992, then December 1995, later December 2000 then December 2005 and of recent December 2012, and then December 2013 now its almost December 2014 and I'm still waiting for constant electricity.

They said its one nation bound in freedom, peace and unity and I believed them. Only for my current president to say that it was only one part of the country that put him in power. As if that wasn't enough, I now found out that Nigerians can be deported from their own country. As long as my parents are not from the state I live in, I'm only a visitor and I'm only living on the benevolence of my hosts. Where's the unity!! I asked.

Now, everybody calls me a fool on Nairaland for believing what my teachers taught me through the National Anthem. I'm a fool for simply wishing that Nigeria remain Nigeria. Woe betide me if I don't believe Nigeria ought to be divided. Woe betide me if I dare say anything against a corrupt person in government especially if the person is not a member of my tribe. A greater woe betide me if I condemn anybody from any political party for gross incompetence. The greatest woe is when I say enough is enough, the current president has not done anything that will make me want him to continue in office after the next elections. I'm immediately termed a Janjaweedian. What that means I sincerely don't know.

I think relaxers and extensions in braids are not so bad because women with it do not necessarily wanna copy white women with the resultant look of the hair styles while they are done. They are just enhancing thier hair in a way may be to be softer and easy to comb or to look longer when its braided but I have serious issues with weaves that covers ur scalp and Gods given hair completely in order to mimic a white woman's hair. I don't know why ladies dont get that.

I have had women really take me as an enemy just because I explain to them that they look more beautiful if they do something with their natural hair. Nope, they think they only look beautiful with fake white woman's hair. Its so saddening. Picture this, a white lady will admire a black woman's hair only if she sees typical black styles like cornrows, braids, afro puffs and all that. But she cant admire a black woman's hair when she has weaves on u know why?

1) Cos she knows the weaves are fake, they are not ur hair anyway
2) Cos she can't be thrilled cos she has a better, natural form of the hair u are trying to copy on her head, she doesnt have to buy it so she doesnt care if u bought the fake hair with ur entire salary of a month
3) On the other hand, she can only admire what she can never have or cant have easily even if she wants to try such as ur afro, ur braids etc

So if black women are wise, they should be a proponent of trying to make typical black hairstyles look cool not quickly jump into defensive anytime the weave issues are raised just as if those who are concerned about the damaging politics of weaves like us just want to bash black women.. noooooooo. Remember u want to die mimicking their own hair cos they make it lool cool?

Do u know why black women are conditioned by the media and businesses to love weaves? because ur weave addiction makes white folks/the koreans richer. They get to sell it to u, its a billion dollar business going from poor blacks pocket to already rich white folks just because u want to look like them. They dont want it, to them its waste but to u its gold so they like that u love it and they will fool u to make u think its cool that u love it cos they want to keep getting ur money.
