This is so shameful, what is left for me to say in defense of my country when non Nigerian friends ask me about our new "paedophilic" law? We are just getting crazier. |
Hezron Lorraine: this is part of what I'm saying.a typical way for a hypocritical nigerian bigot to speak.Oh My Goodness!!! I lost count of all the names u called me, U pro homos attack anyone who does not agree with ur belief and start calling them horrible names, a totally undesirable verbal abuse. U are actually the group of ppl that are intolerant not someone like me. Look at my comment and tell me where I name called u or even the gay ppl for that matter. I only expressed my opinion clearly and coherently and last I checked there is a freedom of expression. But u gay folks only believe in freedom of expression if its in favor of ur arguments otherwise the other party are bigots, fools, idiots, stupid etc... Here u attempted schooling me about WHO, well Mr/Mrs for ur information, I will tell u one more time that u as a black man have little say in the direction of motives of those organizations. U may have representative and so what? Are u the ones carrying out those researches? How much of the researches do u even initiate? Do they use ur facilities to carry out those researches? Back in 2010, we submitted a report on organic agriculture in Nigeria to FAO and there were just 2 Africans, myself and a sierra-leonean on the project involving 12 ppl (okay we worked with Nigerians in Nigeria but they only aided it). This is a project of coventry university and university of wageningen.. Why was it not a project of university of Ibadan and university of abeokuta, if u don't initiate anything, how would u influence anything This projects are carried out on their terms and not urs, cos its their initiative and their fund. Now this is how these organizations get their data of which ur representatives deliberate on. U need to understand how things happen deep down instead of just reading their modus operandi on wiki pages and say "oh we are all equally represented bla bla" and start calling ppl names. Representatives or not, decisions will be made based on collected data. On the gay issue, I have seen u are close minded on ur opinion, and I can't help u on that. Gays could be gay if they want, I have gay friends I told u, but u are still all struggling to substantiate the claim that u were born that way and u know why? Because it is just not true. |
Hezron Lorraine: One funny thing I noticed about Nairaland is most people here are obsessed with anything gay-related.on every gay-themed thread they'll rush in to spit and curse with ignorance.Look at this dude, who and who are running WHO? Is it not the same white folks that are moving the gay agenda? So u do not know that even science has been politicized? What exactly has WHO proved about homosexuality? That it is genetic huh? What research has WHO done to substantiate this ridiculous claim of urs that anti-gay ppl are likely gays themselves. Or is that not what u are saying here? Look dude, u can never understand the gay propaganda if u do not understand the concomitant issues. U seem not to know what it may mean to say someone is mentally deranged. It does not necessarily mean u are mad or a retard, it only means u have a certain mental defect which might or might not be a big issue depending on its consequences on u. Anyone who is addicted to anything is mentally deranged in the context of his or her addiction, most especially, a fatal addiction. Therefore many ppl of the world are mentally deranged in one way or the other and it varies from culture to culture. U need 2 things, 1)Undertsand the politics of gayy movement, 2)Research homosexuality itself on a very neutral premise, U will see proponent and opponent scientific claims here and there. Compare and contrast and then draw ur conclusions. If u would not deceive urself, U would observe that there is not yet any substantial genetic backing for homosexuality. Read academic materials in the course of ur research and keep off all these stupid blogs and propaganda websites. U need to know that the gayys have had rights to cohabit since way back and it wasn't a big problem, they were living their lives and there was not much hates until they started political movement to advocate for more rights. Rights to marry i.e to apply exact the same law as defined in marriage (which means a man, marrying a woman), right to adopt children (and automatically deny a child the right to be raised in a normal family), right to kiss each other in public etc. But this wasn't gonna be easy unless they could claim one thing, that they were born that way. Disclaimer: I do not support killing or harassing of gayys in anyway (I have a couple of gay friends) so the action in Cameroon is barbaric and should never be entertained. However, I am completely against the moral stance of the pro-homo movement around the world. |
Chanchit: Enyeama is long overdue jor, likewise Ejide. I just wish they would try using that third keeper, jst like yesterday when Enyeama started. Even if we manage Peter Rufai against SA we would beat them, so they should jst give that guy the opportunity to build his confidence.I seriously LMAO!!! to that in bold... Make una no kill me of laughter jare. |
@Seun, the 1st to comment BS needs to be curbed. Even if some kids can access Nairaland, they should learn to pretend to be adults on the forum. It waters down the integrity of this forum and I know u wouldnt like that do u? So pls do something about it. |
This dude commited career suicide through his actions.. Other atheletes destroy their career through drugs... Odewingie destroyed his through his actions, utterances and twitter..
Very true, u can see nobody wants to buy him... He can't control his emotions. He would have gotten away with it if he is still young but old age plus poor emotional display have completely eroded his market value |
obowunmi: Father robs the next generation of Nigeria youths of their futures. Daughter becomes a celebrity and is hailed for mediocre talent and God knows what.... Nigeria is indeed a SICK COUNTRY.I understand ur feelings but do not judge the daughter on the basis of her father's actions. Judge this girl only and only on the basis of her own actions. By ur sense of reasoning, u shouldn't complain if u are judged (as usual) as a scammer by non-Nigerians based on the actions of some Nigerians scammers. Let's be reasonable. |
Vonwolf: Please respect peoples religion for crying out loud, wait before you lash at me...kindly note I'm a christian but I was deeply moved by some scathing comments about islam which is wrong, not all muslim are like that. The point is that guys like Yerima are grossly misrepresenting Islam. A case of marrying a girl that young are exceptions that may develop as a result of an unusual scenario where it is not necessarily expected of the man to immediately engage in sexual cohabitation at that point in time. So its not expected to be a norm in Islam but that is Yerima's sole ambition in the midst of several other more important problems facing his Zamfara folks. A woman reaching puberty does not automatically ensure her readiness to bear children due to the apparent rudimentary state of her reproductive organs which may likely lead to complications in the eventuality of pregnancy at that state. What about psychological unpreparedness of the young woman involved? Islam does not encourage marriage without absolute consent of the man and the woman and then their parents. Even in animal reproduction, it is biologically advisable to allow mating after completing 1, 2 or 3 rounds of oestrus cycle. The problem is that guys like Yerima are just plain stupid and are using Islam as an excuse to explore their stupidity. Guys like this are committed to blatantly defacing Islam and he should not be entertained. But unfortunately, how many muslims are for or against this dude? well we do not know. Cos most of them are not even sure of which side they should be because they are not sufficiently informed enough to have an opinion. |
fkaz: She better revisit PH and talk to his follower to shieldI assume u meant SHEATH!!! |
mikeansy: Nobody is asking anyone to loose their cultureDude, u are subliminally advocating for a repression of our identity. I will never support our public office holders wearing suit at all. Although I am not a fan of Jonathan but let him wear is native attire, and hey what is wrong with is outfit? U have been mentally conditioned to accept everything of the white man as normal and perfect... Except Agbada which is somewhat superfluous, and more and more ppl are wearing less agbada these days. If u want to advocate for smarter attires, why not advocate for our smarter attires? why must they be western to be smart? And next time, try to base ur argument on more intellectual substance, cos its grossly embarrassing that u think wearing a white man's cloth could have been a solution to the biggest of our problems. We may or may not have more culture than the countries u have mentioned but the only certain thing is that we are a mile more proud of who we are and our identity than all those countries u have mentioned. And that is the only thing we have left going good for us. Or have u not asked urself the reason we have prospered in arts and entertainment compared to those countries? |
Mavrick2012: tank goodnes 4 science, religion is so naiv abt earth n cosmology.instead of being "flexible"(as stated above) d "omniscience God" should have known that there are places(durin certain seasons of d yr)dat wil xperienc 24hs sunshine/darkness n tel its folowers ahead of time.dis reminds one of d quranic verse dat tels muslims 2 pray durin comon-eclips of d moon, som fanatics even interprets it as d result of d sin of "infidels".d govt had 2 deploy soldiers on d streets durin d last lunar eclips in kaduna.religion, especially xtianity n islam,is such a huge contraptn.Islam itself as a religion is not a contraption the problem is with humans and their complications and not God. I read the original article on this thread and I just shake my head with different objections but I just let it fly. I saw where the writer is advocating for asking scholars about what to do, simple stuff u can manage with ur common sense and ur conscience unless u are a new convert, then I can understand that but when muslims go to a scholar he complicates things for u and contradicts the verdicts of one other scholar which further complicates stuffs and raise arguments. This in turn establishes diverse interest as per which scholar is right or wrong. That is the origin of complications that establishes the seeming contraption. The writer said u can calculate the time to break when u are in an aeroplane and flying towards the sun, that makes logical sense but its already contradicting the general islamic belief that muslims are exonerated from fasting when they are on a journey and can fast at their convenience when the journey is over. I live in a country where i have to fast for 19 hours, that is too much for me, so what I do is fast in the weekends, friday through monday, 4days per week, that is sincerely my limit with the mentally demanding job that I have. So reading thru the article and seeing some scholars saying its a must does not bother me, cos I don't worship them. So for me Islam is not a contraption. |
EmperorSeal: if an ordinary citizen like me can not take insults from WS without talkin back at him in any form, how about the wife of the number one citizen? WS actually stoop ttoooo low this time by calling the first lady disrespectful names. Am sure non of us will allow another man to pure insults on of wives or even relatives without feeling bad. Pgj has only defended her self with is expected from any right thinking person. I wonder if ws should now be worshiped like god. MtcheeeewU are getting it wrong, from what I read, there was nothing like name calling, that is problem in Nigeria, we like to sensationalize things. Do u know what name calling means? The only issue here is that PEJ can accuse Soyinka of wrong accusations but both parties (PEJ and Soyinka) have to substantiate their claims. If none of them can bring forth evidence to back their claim, then it remains nothing but mere arguments. |
Wow this thread is a revelation. It reveals that the argument here is not along the line of who is actually right or wrong, It immediately go along tribal bashing. The bone of contention is abandoned and and a battle of tribes is drawn. We are more concerned about bringing each others down, how are u all here different from the leaders u are accusing of incompetence? Our leaders are a reflection of who we are, just take a look at the xters on this thread and imagine we are all senators, ministers, governors etc... This shows that even if our leaders are removed today, and are replaced by you and you and you, nothing will ever change, it is not about bad leadership, it's just about who we are. We are not serious. |

Orikinla: The dice is cast.I can only "wow" at this one.. |
so this guy is freed at last and I am surprised that some are even happy for him. Now that is the problem with Nigeria, we have no consistent sense of reasoning. When the case was fresh, hardly would u find any reasonable Nigerian that would wish that the murderer be set free. Was he not the chief security officer? How can he claim that he was taking order from the president when he himself was the Chief Security Officer? His mandate was to make decisions and execute them to ensure the security of Abacha. That is absolutely pointless, I would only expect him to prove how the victim was a threat to the president at that time and further explain the justification behind illegally murdering her without any arrest and proper legal procedures. If this guy is set free and we think it's an "OK" judgment, then there is no basis to further complain or criticize the unjust attributes of justice in Nigeria. |
.. |
ok guys, this thread might be very useful as a reasonable survey on the current state of power supply in Nigeria. Therefore pls state ur location while u give input cos now we can't really tell if it's only Ibadan thread or from everywhere. Thanks. |
well, forgive me for this little digression, I just want to point something out. Some guys are using the term "light" some may not know that this is not correct. I am just raising this issue due to a past thread where the quality of our spoken English was discussed and many think there is nothing wrong in the way we speak. I also use the term "light" but will never use it (and or Nigerian English in general) in a public forum or while conversing with native English speakers, they mostly confuse "light" to mean "day-time" in context until u explain what u mean... Just saying. |
Interestingly, some "gullibles" believe it and and probably still wish it was true. Well if these ppl don't exist, how would the few smart ones be able to take advantage of them? These gullible folks are like maggots, we don't really like them but they still play an important role in the ecosystem. |
I am surprised too. The ruling party is the mastermind of endorsement in Nigeria's present politics. Like Obasanjo from PDP endorsed Fayoshe in ruling Ekiti before things fell apart. Like OBJ endorsed Yar'Adua to rule Nigeria. Same OBJ endorsed Jonathan as Yar'Adua's vice and also endorsed him in 2011 in PDP primaries and for the general election. PDP is not worthy of policing other parties for endorsing anyone, because they are the don in it.
Okay good point and so whats the point? That it's ok for ACN to endorse if PDP did it before? Does that make it good? Well tinubu knows what he is doing tho but the governed don't. |
3ace: My guy, I feel you o. I also had a similar experience in 2004 when I was arrested as a scapegoat for hanging around in school after the authority had mandated every student to leave due to students unrest. I was taken to More Police station in Ile-ife. I think the state of the prison is better that the one you just painted but this doesn't mean it is habitable for animals let alone humans. The wall, the floor, everywhere was just feeling sticky like a mechanic's workshop. There was no night and day as the window providing illumination and ventilation was just too small for the room. It wasn't too congested maybe because of the population of the area.(the more the people, the more the criminals). It was a terrible experience all the same and I was bailed after two days. I wonder how any sane human will still go back to crime after being subjected to such inhumanity. That in bold makes u look like u actually committed a crime for going there but from ur story u didn't. U should have been more concerned about ppl having to find themselves their somehow without committing any crime. |
It is very likely that Boko Haram is currently working out plans to blow it up on the official launching day... That will make their day. |
Saleem2: In fact, i really appreciate each person's comment but am deeply agree to those who against the topic. NYSC would not be scrapped. In addition, it is our common experience that having one good thing is better than having 100 things whose are not useful for a man. The money given to NYSC per month for a year could be made them to achieved in life. In sum, some NYSC have something that are doing before proceed to studies, e:g photographers, plumbers, fashion designers etc so dey can use this money to raise their businesses and care for their family without depends on government works. Finally, by tranferring each of dem to another state is part of education. That is my aims. Are u trying to be funny with ur grammar or this is for real? |
Scrap it off!!! The disadvantage of NYSC grossly outweighs the benefits. If they are not ready to restructure it and do stuffs like 1)Make posting corpers out of their region optional 2)Raise minimum pay for corpers 3)Put better facilities in NYSC camps (not the shamefully ugly camps they call camps) 4)Encourage more investment so there can be actually meaningful placement for these corpers instead of posting majority of them to remote villages to teach. If they can not fix all of the above as soon as possible, they should scrap it until those are fixed. |
Afam4eva: It has little to do with poverty but more to do with culture. We learned this culture from our colonial master(Britain). They fence their houses despite being a well to do country. Nigerian houses used to have low fences back in the day but security and privacy propelled them to start building towers of babel in the name of fence. Brazil is a similar country to Nigeria in terms of poverty but i don't see them fencing their houses except those owned by very rich people.Well I might agree with ur point but that was then. Just like u have said, we fence these days for security and privacy reasons and I maintain that it is the same situation in all developing countries most especially in metro areas. And the Brazil case is still the same situation here... How many houses in Nigerian slums are fenced? The poor Nigerians don't fence their houses either. Just as the poor Brazilian don't fence their houses. The reason why its seems as if there are less fenced houses in Brazil is because they have higher level of poverty than we do in Nigeria. The gap between the rich and the poor in Brazil is about 2-3 times more than that of Nigeria. So u are either very rich in Brazil or very very poor. So these poor people can not afford to fence their houses and they are the majority hence the reason why it seems as if they imbibed the culture of fencing less than we do. |
Mikel shouldn't have done that... It is very irresponsible. Why can't these guys be professional a little bit? There are many hot bikini girls on the beach there, so he couldn't afford to be professional for about 5 minutes and act properly in front of camera and resume back at enjoying the site of girls in bikini when the camera is gone? I think he deliberately love to have an image of a bad boy which is childish tho. Cos he is aware that the world is looking at his attitude when he did that, this is not like he was secretly filmed while enjoying his private life, he knew he was in front of the News Crew. |
Not only Nigerians fence their houses. All countries with higher level of poverty and less security fence their houses. Fencing is not very common in developed countries because the entire country itself is reasonably safe and there are not a lot of poverty.. So u don't see junkies and uninvited riffraff walking up on ur door and sleeping in ur verandah. Even at that, most of these "un-fenced" houses still have 1-2 meter high perimeter fences for their yards for some level of privacy when chilling out at the back yard. |
masonkz: Why does everyone's vision of God have to be one of a White God? Or white Angels?Exactly.. and majority will be talking about being proud of their black identity when majority of them in their minds, their hallucinations and their dreams actually believe that God or the angel is a white man... But why not? when the image of God that is sold to them is that of one white dude, so every time they picture Jesus in their mind, they see not Jesus but that white dude... What a shame! |
I've said it before, and i'll say it again till i'm blue in the face- these thugs, junkies and psychos that pass for truck drivers in this country......FRSC needs to pay particular attention to them, and ensure they and their vehicles go for a yearly check-up! Also, each articulated lorry/truck/tipper/heavy-duty-vehicle should have a unique easily identifiable number at the back; together with a phone number to call, incase the driver is driving like a maniac! So many animals passing for human beings in this country!
Back in the days, we used to have traffic rules.. most especially on the highway.. Drivers are enforced to read "the highway code" FRSC was very effective and even little children knew at that time that a trailer must not drive on the left lane on the highway but these days, u won't believe that most trailer drivers don't even know traffic rules and they are not aware that they have the least right on the highway.. (e.g they mustn't exceed certain speed, they must stay on the left lane, they must give way for smaller vehicles etc...) But unfortunately majority of illiterate dull head trailer drivers that we have think that they have the most right cos they drive the heaviest vehicle on the highway so everyone must respect them. But is it their fault or our government that fails to enforce traffic law? |
manie: lastpage: Let my son /daughter work hard and save their money towards buying a car, if he/she needs one!In reality parents don't buy car for their young children but they allow them to drive their car/cars... and when they are old enough to maintain a car, they give a car out to them or outright buy a new one for them.. So ur comment here is not really different from what happens in reality. |
This question is not very specific hence the reason why ppl's comment is pointing at different directions. U did not indicate the age range of the children. Are u talking of teenagers or full fledged adult? Look, on a general note, there is no right or wrong in this case. It depends on the parents and the children. If ur child is level headed, very obedient and responsible, why not? If u have a child with excessive habits, it may not be a good move to buy a car for such child. Even if ur child is grown and mature enough to buy his own car, it also depends. Unless ppl are being untruthful here, there are many ppl I know whose 1st car was either given to them by their parents or outright bought for them by their parents. Most of us do not have the kind of opportunities our parents have in their time... and some parents understand this, hence they assist their children till at least they can successfully stand on their own. |
This projects are carried out on their terms and not urs, cos its their initiative and their fund.
