PoliticsPresident Jonathan's Ex-CSO Detained In Connection With Oil Bunkering by apolonius(op): 7:47am On Jul 19, 2015
Ex-Chief Security Officer (CSO) to former president Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Gordon Obuah has been arrested and detained by the Department of State Services (DSS).

A security source said Obuah is being held in connection with an ongoing investigation into illegal oil bunkering.

The source said the ex- CSO who worked with ex-president Jonathan during his six years in office had been under instruction to report daily to the DSS headquarters in Abuja daily, but was detained last Thursday evening.

Sunday Sun could not, however, get official confirmation on the arrest and detention of the security officer last night.

PoliticsBuhari Must Avoid Jonathan's Mistake In Fighting Tinubu-Colonel Nyiam by apolonius(op):
How do you look at the movement from the South-west led by Asiwaju Tinubu which teamed-up with the North to produce Buhari? What are the shortcomings and strengths in the alliance?

I don’t think I want to go into that. Asiwaju played a critical role in contributing to Jonathan being made acting president. At one point, Asiwaju was actually involved in contingencies to save Jonathan’s life . At that time, it was feared that if Jonathan refused to resign after the death of Yar’Adua , he will become a wasted material. Asiwaju played a role in ensuring that did not happen.

I say this, because I was involved as well. Another colleague of mine and I were involved in the benevolence, patriotism and nationalism of Asiwaju. Asiwaju also played a key role in 2011 with the Oba of Lagos and one or two personalities I wouldn’t want to mention just now. They played a part in ensuring that Asiwaju helped to convince the South-west to help Jonathan. Why am I repeating all this? I am doing so, because President Buhari should not make the mistake that was made.

What mistake are you talking about?

After Asiwaju rendered all this help, he was paid back in a way that was not befitting of the assistance he gave. It was not the fault of ex-president Jonathan; it was the fault of his aides. The key aide who was supposed to facilitate some of the things to pay back did not do it. To the point that…

(cuts in) Was it financial?

I will like to leave it at that. Not so much financial. I would like to leave it at that. Instead, rumours were being peddled that Asiwaju was paid back with some money, which wasn’t true. The person who was supposed to do certain things did not do so. I had in a lecture I delivered in the East warned that the way the South west was being treated by Jonathan’s regime would not help his government.

I raised the alarm that the first 12 people in the hierarchy of protocol i.e the president down the line to the 12th, there was no Yoruba figure in it. I said then that it was dangerous for any government to ignore the South-west. Some of my colleagues from the Niger Delta were very angry with me for making that comment. I told them I said it in the best interest of Jonathan, and of course we saw the result. Asiwaju may have been forced to, as it were, go into that alliance. It was an alliance that I thought he should have gone into much more carefully than we see playing out.

I think it’s a mistake for President Buhari to allow himself to be misled to think that those who are ganging up against the South-west would triumph .It is an open secret that those who want to regain power back to their people ,find the South-west, that once you’ve checkmated, divided and ruled, you can get through to the rest of the South and North central. Once you have done that, you are in control. That’s what is playing out at the National Assembly and in the APC, I see it from three multi- layered levels.

Superficially, what we call the wave of an ocean level, I see the contest between those who want to deepen democracy, and those who want the role of godfathers to play on .To most of us in the South,we like the deepening of democracy, but we forget that underlying that there is still the strategic. The different zones have strategic advantages. It’s in that we have to be careful not to allow ourselves to be divided. I think the South-west needs to come together for their own good. The camps in the South-west , Governor Mimiko, Asiwaju, Dr Fasehun need to come back together. You see any attempt to push Asiwaju out of the corridors of power is a rehearsal to push the South out of power for good.

Can you throw more light on that?

The hegemonists are masters of divide and rule. Here is Asiwaju Tinubu, the man who built the bridge. Make no mistake about it, without Asiwaju, Buhari could not have been in office. It was Asiwaju’s rallying point that gave confidence to Buhari’s movement. People forget that even the elite in the North were not with Buhari.

It was when Asiwaju gave them no choice, when they saw that if they did not join the bandwagon they will be left out. The creator of this bridge, the creator of this means of power is Bola Tinubu. So, for such a contributor to be set aside is really dangerous. I say this with no apologies, rather I plead with my other South-west leaders that once Asiwaju is confined, or restricted , they will come to them. So, anybody who thinks he will benefit from it will be mistaken.

On this note, I urge two particular beneficiaries of Asiwaju’s human capital development ( two former governors) not to allow themselves to be used against Asiwaju Tinubu.

PoliticsHighpoints Of President Buhari's Speech At APC NEC Meeting Today! by apolonius(op):
President Buhari urged the party members to honour the platform through which they won the elections and gave a background of how he contested his present position and lost three times. ”Whoever wants to run for elected office as a Nigerian must have a platform and that platform is the political parties hence the superiority of the party because that is our platform,” the president said.

He told the story of the party from the beginning when other parties came together to form APC, how INEC rejected their initial merger, how the first convention was planned and who was instrumental at the initial stage. ”I am going through all these (stories) because not all of us here participated in this and for you to reflect and thank the leadership of the party at various stages for going through all these which wasn’t easy. ”But God in his infinite mercy has paid us by giving us success, let us not throw this success to the wind.

“ Let us as members of APC ‎no matter our personal differences, get together and meet the mandate given to us by this country. ”This is my personal appeal and,in the name of God, whatever your personal interest is‎ and ambition, please keep it close to your heart and in your pocket.

”Let APC work and let this system work and let us have a government that will earn the respect of our constituencies. ”I appeal to you to please continue working together and please accept the superiority of the party….because I respect the superiority of the party,” he said. -

Kogi state is my state, and the PDP government, from Ibrahim Idris to the present Idris Wada, has damaged and destroyed so much under their badge of visionless governance.Lest I am accused of biases,I am Igala and grew up knowing members of their families.

Kogi state today is a dungeon;an unimaginable sheol and dark alley. If you have ever driven through Lokoja, the state capital, the smell, filth and naked decadence there mirror the sad story of the entire state.

Enough of these expired, soundless and relunctant leaders;we need visionary leaders at all levels in that state.

Thanks to the op and all the wise contributors.I read every comment and I am blessed and better from them all.

I have been guilty of all the financial sins in the last 6 years or so.From avoiding 'unshiny' earning opportunities in London to heavy spending on wants and pleasures:clubbing excessively during my law school days in Abuja, dinning in exotic places and rooms in the name of fun, being a father Christmas to some, and saving nothing.

Yes,I have lacked amid the plenty I got through the years and decided early last 2 years to prioritize financial education.Of course,I found love, realizing that our time here is shorter than we are conscious of,and wedded awhile back.I have since read autobiographies of the wealthy and great like Ted Turner's Call me Ted,Total Recall by Arnold Schwerzeneger,Boone PIckens First billion is the Hardest among others-started and completed Duncan Bannatyne's Anyone Can Do It last nite.

My point?I am wiser and doing far greater from seeking financial knowledge.I live on budget and priorities.Of course, like I shared with my wife 2 days ago while pondering the agonies of the years of waste,if I knew what I now know in 2009 when I stepped into the UK,I would have been a multi-millionaire in pounds today.

It is life;never too late to learn and always better to learn and live these lessons and principles.

God bless everyone who contributed;and all who read!

You guys keep expressing your fears about Nigeria's future not knowing things can never be as bad as it was in the olden days. I am not young either(late 80s), but I often ask myself how the older generations stood up to rubbish from the politicians in the olden days without doing nothing about it. There is nothing to be proud about as far as the older generation is concern because they didn't and are not leaving a high standard of governorship behind for the newer ones. There are thousands of things people did or put up with which the newer ones will never do or allow.
The new generations are smarter but not yet wiser of which would come with age. If you are talking about a decrease in morality then I might agree.
Expressionism is neither smartness nor wisdom. I am not saying the older generations are saints; they failed us. Just saying if all we do is to engage in avoidable spats, unproductive duels and just sing meaningless choruses.

We need to be clear thinkers, be men and women of visions, and stay hungry for progressive leadership.

Of course, I see your points and appreciate the wisdom of it all.
