freeborn76: My position is this; some Nigerians make it difficult to be Nigerian abroad. Believe me, many countries in Africa silently wish they could flush out Nigerians from their midst. What most Nigerians do in South Africa is shameful and despicable; Point Road in Durban, Hillbrow in Johannesburg, Wynberg and Parklands in Cape Town etc. Nigerians brazenly sell drugs and run brothels without any fear. It's time we started a national rebirth in this country...do you know that the most hated word in India today is Nigeria? Why? Drug peddlers...where did we even derail? Can you provide authentic figures for your claim? I hear how Nigerians in a certain Western country only do yahoo yahoo. If I did not know the legions of Nigerian medics, nurses, engineers, IT gurus, shop assistants, council workers, cooks, cleaners and other gainfully employed people, I'd believe what you just said. No matter what, no sweeping generalisation is every justified. |

Is it calling it 9ja that sent Bubu to UK for ordinary check up? These people are really silly. What exactly is original about Nigger Area that Nigeria is coined from? In fact anything that takes the name further away from Nigger is a blessing. Something our "heroes" of independence did not know better to change like Nkrumah changed Gold Coast to Ghana. |

Politics › Re: Babangida Honored By Oba Of Lagos For The Completion Of 3rd Mainland Bridge by AreaFada2: 10:22am On Feb 21, 2017 |
obailala: Firstly, in general, Nigeria has had more money and wealth under democratic leaders than military; that fact is not disputable.
Secondly, considering the inflation factor, $12 billion in 1990 may have been of more value than what it is today, but the difference isn't so much as you paint it; we are talking of the dollar here, not the Naira. Have you considered that the exchange rate of the dollar to the Naira in 1990 was less than N10 to $1?
Finally, you have just validated what I said earlier, despite the massive fortunes stolen by military leaders, despite the fact that Nigeria in general had less money under the military rulers, we were still able to achieve some largely ambitious projects like the 3rd mainland bridge amongst many road and bridge projects. But under the democrats, can we really point out to any major project completed since 1999?... We cant even maintain the structures put up by the rogue military men today. You quickly forget the expenses of running democratic structures, frequency appropriation bills, a bicameral legislature, State houses of Assembly, the power of legislature to hold the executive to ransom as they frequently did Obasanjo who had to settle each time with Ghana must go. The military could do things by decrees and fiat. Making things quicker and cheaper. If a ticket to London was around N4,000 Naira then and now costs around £650 in low season that is around N 400,000 by current forex rate. Are you saying that a 100 fold increase in price is not significant? You also do not consider other things: Julius Berger and others doing those bridges pay many expatriates in dollars. That would the reflected today in the cost, considering the pitiable value of the Naira. The other aspects is that Lagos was still Federal capital then. Had Orka coup happened around 1987, IBB would have run away much quicker to Abuja and no 3MB would have being built. Whether Abuja was fully ready or not. Vatsa"s alleged coup was a phantom one. Hence he remained in Dodan Barracks. Even the idea or plan for 3MB did not begin with IBB. irrespective of exchange rate, it is the relative strength (purchasing power) of Naira then that mattered. Yes I bought dollars anything from N8.50 to N11.00 then. Yet IBB was the worst thing that happened to the Naira. Until this Buhari regime now. |

obailala: What the 'useless' military rulers built even when there was no money, the so called 'better' democratic leaders have been unable to attempt them. When there was no money? Were you a baby then? Never heard of over $12 billion Gulf War oil windfall that grew wings under IBB? Do you know that what $12 billion could do then, $30 billion cannot do it now? Benin to Lagos was around 15 to 20 Naira by bus. Depending on airline, N6,500 bought you a ticket from Lagos to New York. Around N4,000 Naira to Rome or Paris. Bad as it may be, it is alleged around $2billion dollars of Dasuki loot & hundreds of millions of Diezani loot that we have used to label GEJ as most corrupt. Abeg many of us here still remember yesterday. All this honour did not stop him from betraying MKO Abiola though. |

edi287: Blame the fools that have given us a bad name over there. But like I say, stereotyping is for ignorant morons. Just like it would be stupid to tag all black south africans as HIV infested lazy people, it's wrong for them to say "how can they believe a Nigerian who says they don't sell drugs". They need to look at the ones in their schools getting great grades and being successful. Good Nigerian people should condemn these drug peddling and 419 scamming bastards because they are really making things hard for the average Naija peeps. No amount of condemnation will change their minds. Humans just have a high propensity for bigotry. Add a violent/oppressive history to xenophobia in the case of South Africa. Theirs is a country tethering on the brink. Now they want to blame all their social problems on the few wayward Nigerians in their midst. Many of those making noise online have nothing going for them in life. It is same in every society. Those who have been left behind usually find convenient scapegoats. Typically assertive, eternally optimistic type of people like Nigerians. The same complainants would also complain about 9ja docs, dentists, IT specialists, lecturers, engineers and others taking their jobs. Yet they cannot boast of an ordinary national diploma equivalent. |

Do you think having a Muslim president is our problem in Nigeria? You are an hypocrite if you can ask Nigerian to pray for the acting president and you are abusing/cursing his boss. Wrong. Most who pray for VP and sing his praise are Yoruba. As you know, Bubu has lost some of his Yoruba fans since May 2015. Only a mega-hypocrite will pretend that tribalism is not a big issue in Nigeria. Fact is Nigeria doesn't need a recycled old man to lead it at a time we need rapid economic growth to create jobs for teeming youth. Someone truly progressive is what we need. We do not need someone who will take indefinite sick leave getting treatment abroad. Ribadu, Kwakwanso or even El-Midget would do nicely as president, if the North must rule in the zoning calendar. |

lepasharon: You Nigerians act so morally upright and prudish but the statistics on Nigeria speak for itself.
See some women here saying they can't let a male gynecologist see them but over 10 guys have seen you naked b4. Just know the gynecologist doesn't find ur vagina attractive especially when there are health problem causing it to ooze and smell, no one wants to see that, so stop acting so prestige My dear, I wonder if they understand the ordeal of having to perceive all manners of "flavors" emanating from there. If people did, they'd pity the gynae. Even outwardly clean ladies quite often have "flavour" that given half a chance, one would like to avoid completely. It would take a special form of perversion to be turned on. People also forget that when seeing a patient, a chaperone (usual a female staff) is always present with the male gynae. For guys imagining from outside it might seem like a dream job seeing female uncladness. But it isn't. It is hard work with dedication needing years & years of training. Those who say docs are womanisers, they can be psychiatrists or gastro-enterologists and still womanise. Do we not have womanising policemen, soldiers, bankers, lawyers, danfo drivers, vulcanisers, journalists, etc? |

Gej was one of those that killed pdp he's the best president ever since 1960 but in his quest to be civil, gentle and democratic allowed apc to grow wings and dethroned pdp. that's why irrespective of how much i hated Obasanjo he's a real politician and that's what apc is doing right now Nigeria was simply not mature for civilized politics when GEJ came. Even the corruption that occurred during his time had the same reason. Trusting people to do their job sincerely & diligently. But decades from now, we will be wiser. We will come to see it as a missed opportunity to entrench civility in politics & without bitterness. In the rather primitive political clime of Nigeria, where hanging on to power is everything, that is considered being "mumu". Ghanaian politics is more advanced than 9ja's own today. There, a ruling party loses and leave power graciously. Almost like in Western countries. |

I wonder if the Christianity of today is same as the one of Jesus and the apostles. All I read here is threat and venom towards Kemi.
Do many Christians even know the content of the Lord's prayer especially the bit about forgiving those who trespass against us? Or they just parrot the prayer as a matter of routine?
It all seems to be about prestige and power of the pastor. Should a pastor not expect distractions and challenges as the Bible made very clear?

Politics › Re: 'Mr. Health Minister, Are You Mad?' - Lere Olayinka Asks Adewole by AreaFada2: 5:47am On Feb 17, 2017 |
hitman2911: @AreaFada I checked and found some of Prof Ezeibe's online. The one on the trial is an open access paper. We need to celebrate and encourage our own but with undeniable proofs. Publication of paper does not make a claim infalliable. There are many predatory journals that publishes without peer review.
I am involved with drug and vaccine development outside Nigeria. There are procedures and processes to be followed. Currently there are many antiretrovirals under development and in use that will reduce viral load to undetectable level but that does not mean cure because the virus starts replicating after sometime as seen in the "Mississipi baby" few years ago. The findings cannot be termed a cure if during the trial they did not check for the virus in the bone marrow and lymph nodes or long term safety profile.
The trial result that i saw showed only few months follow up and only 10 volunteers. That is just a pilot study. It can only qualify as a trial if it is a rare disease. Many pilot studies then to have encouraging results but the main trials were stopped because of safety issues. These are what the other researchers look out for if you claim to have a positive outcome. There has been cases of drug discoveries over the years which turned out to be more of harm than benefit.
The case of Abalaka 20 years ago is still fresh on our mind. His drug makes the virus to be undetectable to rapid test but still positive to PCR. As at that time there was no PCR machine in Nigeria. I have met some people he treated then, they are still HIV positive after paying huge sum.
Did the Prof trial got approval from all the constituted authorities in Nigeria? Are there are independent validators?
My conclusion is that the study is just a pilot one that needs to be encouraged and upscaled for a bigger trial.
However Nigeria should not throw the baby out with the bath water. Many are dying round the world from HIV but the high wire politics and greed of the pharmaceutical world is overwhelming. I said this in my earlier post. Nobody is advocating for reckless science but encouragement from govt. "Professor Adewole can define that clinical trial in x or y number of patients, and cure maintained for p or q number of years, without serious side effects/future health hazards to make it recognised as a cure, depending on current/existing drug development and clinical trial regulations in Nigeria". |
