My brother just leave them. They form "respectful" in your face. But just like behind people's back they are very disrespectful & vulgar. Just look at their attitude & words when they can hide their faces behind an online forum. They are first rate tribalists and bigots.

A son of a late Oba of Lagos was my classmate in those days. He knew his history. In fact he told me what I did not even know about their descent from Benin.

Leave them.

I though the Oba of Benin at that time was the one who created Eko (then as a War Camp). Isn't he the first Lord by default?
Benin do not claim Lagos today. It was technically lost in 1851 when Oba Kosoko was deposed by the British. But Oba Akintoye still made it clear to the British in 1853 (even after signing treaty with the British in 1852) that Oba Adolor of Benin was the Overlord of Lagos. It was even Oba Akintoye's son, Eleko Dosunmu who finally ceded Lagos to the British in 1861 when the British threatened him. So restoring a Kosoko that was loyal to Benin finally ended with Britain now in control.

But History is very clear on it.

I really wonder why some of our Yoruba people have made it a life's mission to distort any history related to Benin. Even Lagos State Government web page about Lagos history made many things clear. At least around 7 years ago when I saw it.

Eko was created by Benin warriors in what is now Lagos Island. It was meant to give easy access from Atlantic Ocean & Lagoon for trade and warfare. The Aworis who mostly were on the mainland gave little resistance. Though there are anecdotes of skirmishes around Iru in order to control the island.

You are a real Areafada earned through nobility. May God reward you abundantly.
I know you do have found things easier if you had gone to an English speaking country of which there are more choices than any other language.
It didn't pass my notice your English wasn't affected by this foreign language.
Amen.

Thanks. You can really flatter sha. cheesy

I did what most people would do. And do quietly everyday. Only that sometimes we get too busy sorting out our own issues and therefore less time for others.

What other European languages do your English is that you get a better understanding of English words. Of course the way you structure English might suffer a bit.
It might interest you to remember that in Philology (study of structure, history/development & relationships of languages), English is considered a Germanic language. Along with German, Dutch, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Flemish, Frisian, etc. Simply because Anglo-Saxon that morphed into modern English originated from Germany & Jutland (now part of Denmark. English as we know it now was also massively shaped by French language. Most Latin origin words in English (and there are loads) came into English from 1066 AD when the Duke of Normandy (part of France) became King William I The Conqueror of England. So most of the nobles of England were now French.

French even became the official (government) language of England! For a couple of centuries in fact. If you wanted to become a civil servant in England then, you had to go to Paris to study. Before you knew it, fashion, language etc became French. Even the French introduced the use of surname to England, that we all now use. They also introduced the inheritance system whereby the senior son inherits the bulk of family wealth to preserve wealth in families for generations. It used to be split almost equally among all the kids and most would squander it. cheesy grin

That early exposure to hardship was an excellent preparation for life my dear. You take most things in your stride afterwards. I now live in an anglophone country though.

I might make this a topic soon when i find the time and know how to quote you on the thread.

Meanwhile what's the inspiration behind your moniker when you are not Charley boy.
Ok T-Apple.

Because you're so honest, I will tell you. I hope you have time to read my epistle.

Well, like many people I arrived in diaspora as a teenager. Making a living, school & all were very tough indeed. But I decided to learn about my new country quickly: a new language (being a non-English speaking country) understand the basic law/constitution, one's privileges & obligations, history, culture, rules, etc.
With time, God so kind things got better. Then I began to see people in my situation when I first came. I tried to assist as much as I could: house some, interpret when they visited authorities to process documents, token cash as i could afford, even a warm meal for some coming from the cold.

I often followed some with ogboju to challenge those sometimes wicked oyinbo bureaucrats (most of them women since bureaucrats are mostly ladies). Armed with information about procedures of course. They liked to discriminate against Africans a lot then. I was always (when free) in libraries reading up on immigration rules (not now with google everywhere), etc.

With time people were being referred to my house: Nigerians, Ghanaians, Gambians, Senegalese, etc. Even Sri Lankans! I also volunteered working in an NGO that advised immigrants.

Because my house was always full, some 9ja boys began calling me Area Fada. You sabi how we dey mouthed.grin cheesy

I like to imagine that I probably deserved that alias.

My Moniker was actually Area-Fada. But a few years back someone/people hacked into Nairaland servers. Seun Osewa (Nairaland oga patapata) managed to regain control despite permanently losing some months of our posts/discussion here. I think for technical reasons, he had to slightly tweak the monikers of many Nairalanders. That is how I became AreaFada2. Yeah, it sounds rather counterfeit. cheesy grin grin

That's it my lady. smiley

I believe in honesty.
My dear God bless you.
I do not know what actual percentage is but I know lots of married women cheat. Many out of poverty, others out of adventure, fun, greed and so on.

Truth is very unpopular in 9ja of today.

Women in particular seem very averse to it if it shows their negative side.

But they forget that their brothers, uncles, male cousins and friends are married or will marry women. Their sons too will in the future. They seem rather comfortable with many of them being cheated on by their wives.

Each time I remind people here that well over 30% of firstborn kids belong to another man outside and a large number of all kids too, women do not want to hear.

Imagine they were not caught, a women of 40 something is very fertile to possibly conceive. Who knows for how many years they have been doing it?

Social media has now opened more opportunities for even housewives to cheat.

Just because a woman admits the reality does not mean that she's the one who cheats. She's just acknowledging what she knows to be the truth.

Lots of married men cheat too. But at least they won't bring another woman's child from outside and deceive the wife that it is hers.

Yes, they were all at it at various times.

Barack Obama was even accused of being anti-British by part of British media because of his grandfather's suffering during that Mau Mau period. Especially when he removed the Bust of Winston Churchill from his office in the White house years back.
What many may not know is that the actual first holocaust in history happened in England.

In 1190, the entire Jewish population of the City of York was wiped out by English mobs or forced to commit suicide. English people owing the Jews used the opportunity to destroy/burn records of monies owed to the Jews.

In fact the killing of Jews began in London on the day of coronation of King Richard I on 3rd September 1189. Hitler even used those events to justify that Jews have always been bad & killed.
When we forget history, we repeat historical failures.

My brother, I wonder when blackman will mind his own history.

What of slave trade that virtually all of Western Europe & Amerca took part in? What of the inhumanity there? What possible early medical tests on them that people didn't write down or concealed?

In 1904 in what is now Namibia, Germans reduced the total population of 80,000 ethnic Herero people to just 15,000 through genocide. Other accounts put the number of perished Heroros as more than 100,000!

Another 10,000 ethnic Nama/Namaqua neighbors perished under German colonial genocide too.

The few thousand survivors were put in concentration camps.

The West kept quiet.
It was to be the dry run for the holocaust.

Mumu black man should focus on his history.

Thats y it's not u bro. Wld u even think of bringing dis kind of idea if u were d king? Na ur type dey build shopping complex paint der name put. U want to remove Mandela. D greatest of all
What made Mandela great really? Because white people said so?

My generation donated our school lunch money regularly to ANC cause. It was a collective effort by many African countries & citizens.

He fought for freedom alright. But many who did same paid with their lives. The fighters were outside doing the real job. Like Stave Biko who was murdered. Mandela was not even a faithful husband in his free days.Sure, being a figurehead in prison was a useful rallying point.

The SINGLE thing I respect him for is leaving power after just 5 years, Something still are in black Africa when he gave up power.
The other thing is being smart/brave enough to team up with other enlightened blacks to seek freedom. But he was not the founder on ANC or the head of it initially.

In office, pomp, awards & adulation took over. Little achievement for Africans.

The West praise Mandela because he let white people (including many British like Denis Thatcher & family) keep all the wealth they acquired during apartheid. If he had tried to redistribute wealth, the West would have vilified him like they do Mugabe now. Blacks got nothing back. There is still high crime rate, drug abuse & unemployment in SA. Only Thambo Mbeki properly began to address it.

When Westerners start hailing you & putting your statues everywhere, you know they have Bleep.ed your people up mercilessly through you. shocked shocked shocked

It is people like you that ignore the root cause and clutch at straw or blame CIA for causing the bombings. In case you do not know, people like you are suspected of tacitly supporting Boko through silence or distracting from the main problem. Hence people's anger.

Whether she be Hausa or not, over 70% of 9ja Muslims are Hausa. When they are bombing churches up North, they don't ask if the worshippers are Southerners or Northerners, Ijaw or Igbo. So it really makes no difference. After all if she was serving 20 years ago in the East, that would not have happened. They should blame Boko Haram. Or let Igbo go as she suggested. Most Igbo are fed up with 9ja, let them go.

Personally I am not a fan of step-kids, as much as I like kids.

From my observation at close quarters, most step-kids and step parents end up in acrimony. No matter how much the step-dad tries for them, it is never enough. Appreciation is very poor. In the African setting, blood ties is what really matters.

Unless you end up becoming a very rich/famous step-dad. Then the stepkids would respect you and do "attachee" to your name. Even if you were largely a lousy step-dad all along. shocked

What the prof said is that it has been tried on 10 people already. Basically safely clinically trialed already.

Of course that is not enough. Have potential long term effects been considered? Side effects & contra-indications known?

I also do not know if ethical approval was obtained from relevant authorities to TRIAL (not try) it on people.

I wonder why Nigerian Medical Research body wasn't involved in this.

Was it patented as cure for HIV? Or just the chemical compound was patented?
