Webmasters › Re: How To Start Blogging Today And Make Money Tomorrow by AreaFada2: 10:22am On Jul 13, 2015
ndubisik:
Due to popular demand, here is my complete step-by-step guide I wrote on how to start a blog. Note that this post could get very long, so please be sure to bookmark it so you can always come back and make reference to it. This post will be updated from time to time so I make sure the content stays fresh just the way you like it.

This post is dedicated to Nnamdi, and Abdul, who’s been asking for advice on how to build the best blog. I hope this post helps you. Good luck dominating your niche! Hopefully, one day you’ll be making millions from it. It will definitely change your life!

Contents

Try not to skip any sections if you’re just starting out. You’ll thank me for it!

How I got into the world of blogging

I started blogging in the year 2011. Back then I didn’t know much about it and so I had to make do with the little information available to me at the time. My first blog was about technology and phones. I wasn’t making any money from the site but I wasn’t bothered much, seeing that I didn’t spend a dime on it as I was using the Blogger platform.

I spent hours and hours every day uploading content and tinkering with the site. It was my first baby and so I pampered it a lot. I began to get worried over time as the time I put into the blog wasn’t yielding any sensible results. Very few comments were coming in, my traffic was rising and falling and I thought all I needed to keep on doing was updating posts and it will eventually work out.

That was when I heard of AdSense. Finally, a way to make money from my efforts! After going through a rather rigorous process to get my AdSense approved (that’s a story for another day), I thought finally now the money will come rolling in. Still, AdSense proved me wrong. I wasn’t making any sensible money from the system.

That was where I knew I was doing something wrong. I stopped updating my blog in October the next year and decided to take the time off to learn the basics of blogging and how to make money from it. I didn’t want to make peanuts anymore. I wanted an income that will justify all the hours I had been spending. So I went in search of that information, spent a few bucks here and there in the process.

During my months of research and learning I discovered many things I didn’t know about blogging and learned from other people who had made the same mistakes too. So I decided to put all my knowledge and past experience together under one platform and to help other bloggers plus people who are new to blogging to achieve their goals.

Maybe you’re blogging because of the money, or you’re like Abdul and you want to dominate your niche. The advice I give here is basically a guide in the right direction and sort of a road-map for newbies who want to achieve huge success in blogging.

Ok, let’s begin, shall we?

***

Choosing the right niche – Miss this step and don’t bother about blogging.

I keep getting questions about choice of niche for blogging. To make this post as short as possible, I’m going to summarize what it is all about. You have to locate a need that people are willing and able to pay money for, and then provide a solution to that problem.

Read also: How to find a profitable niche for your blog

After choosing a niche, you need to find keywords related to that niche that people are searching about. A free tool for doing this is Google’s keyword planner tool. I can also carry out keyword research for you if it’s too much trouble but you need to know the basics first.

Now about interest in your niche, this tends to cause arguments. Some people argue that you should only blog about what you love while others say you should focus on the money. For me, I suggest you find a balance between what you love and what people are willing to pay for.

If there are already people in your niche, you need to study what they are doing to know how they are making progress and also to detect areas where you can do better than them.

Really? That's all you can say?

This has nothing to do with white supremacy but simply a country who wants to control immigration especially with the rise of anti immigration sentiments all over Europe. The rise of UKIP and other right wing parties is putting pressure on governments in Europe to control immigration and the UK already has loads of EU citizens coming everyday which they cannot control due to EU laws.

The next sensible thing to do is control immigration of non EU citizens.

Let's face the fact there are many people who go to the UK on student visas , just keep playing the system and not leave. I know Pakistan colleges in the UK where they will just keep enrolling you as a student so you keep extending the visa but do not attend class and just work.

I know a nepalese guy who we started as students together in 2006. He is still on student visa now 2015 and working most of the time.

If you attend a top university in the UK you have no problem getting getting job with a company who can sponsor you. The problem is we all flock the cheap low ranked schools and expect to get the best jobs when we finish. How will that work?

Look at Nigerians that studies in the UK in the 70s and 80s. Oxford, Cambridge, Manchester etc. Look now, London met, east London university etc.
The bolded is so true. Instead of going to lowly ranked schools in UK, except for professional courses like nursing, radiography, physiotherapy and so on, better stay in 9ja. If you attend Oxbridge, University of London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Warwick, Durham, Imperial College and so on, your chances are still bright. It seems we have really fallen behind since the 50s to 80s.

A guy criticised me for applying to one of top universities many years back. He said "how you go dey put your hand where your hand no reach?" shocked shocked Even without knowing my academic pedigree.

I was surprised to hear that. We were told in 9ja those days that if you pass your GCE with top grades, you can walk into any university in the world. That was always my belief. And I was admitted. A long course too.

We need to be more ambitious like 60 to 20 years back.

As a fresh graduate of Animal Nutrition and Biotechnology, I shall be writing my NIAS professional examnation (that will make me a GAS (Graduate Animal Scientist)) this Saturday. If you practice livestock farming in Nigeria, you can also be a part of this institute by writing the same exam. All you have to do to get yourself registered with NIAS and they will conduct exam for you. Although, your own certificate may differ. Please wish me success.
What of Computer Scientists, Molecular Biologists, pharmacists and so on who also practice livestock farmimg, how can they register and prepare for the exam? Or is it strictly for animal science people? And what is the significance of the certificate? Is is both theory & practical exam?

Although your exam should be over by now, good luck anyway.

Actually, there are much differences in favour of PDP at the centre.

The last elections were all about conspiracy against the personality of Goodluck Jonathan and his minority ethnicity's right to govern.

The choice for Buhari was the only magic that had the chance to topple Jonathan hence the gamble.
And now that the target of conspiracy is gone, it suddenly dawns on them that "oh yes, we don't really have much in common. Every man for himself. Operation grab whatever power you can. Betraying even mama & papa is allowed." grin

nPDP wing of APC will torment that party. They owe loyalty to no-one except their ego, power and pocket. Embrace traitors and political prostitutes at your own peril.

Ethnic bigots couldn't wait to vote out Jonathan.

Ganging up against someone is easy, forming a truly progressive unit to make a positive difference is much harder.

APC can now see it.

They welcomed the same people who ruined the country when they were PDP members and blamed GEJ for everything.

People who betrayed their party (PDP) that gave them platform to be senators, governors, HoR members, ministers and so on, should be faithful to APC after already achieving prominence & made money? That's very naive.

This is unlikely just due to oral thrush/infection. This may be due to due to auto-immune condition.

Why should BTech even take 5 years? I do not see the ground breaking inventions of the graduates. cheesy Focus should not be on honour or respect, it should be on finding a solution that brings near parity in curriculum and grade to make it fair to all.

Exactly!!!

Let the dulllard keep believing in the old military tactics of banza charge to show valor.
What Nigerian military need is what Jonathan did. Provide an attack helicopter force that goes in ahead of the army to destroy all the Boko Haram heavy weapons and vehicles. Then the soldiers can charge and over run the dazed Boko haram force.

The dulllard keeps thinking the attack helicopter crew flown by experienced SA ex-pilots is useless against Boko Haram, so he disbanded it. The reversals of fortune has been acute and immediate since he disbanded the South African pilots helicopter crew, proving the helicopter crew was a vital component of victories against Boko haram. Buhari will know this when Boko Haram push our troops into Abuja.

Anyway, it is obvious Buhari wants Boko Haram to defeat our army to make his case for an amnesty program easy. So let them keeps wasting innocent soldiers life playing amnesty politics y for Boko Haram

You totally got the memo my friend. GMB doesn't want to deploy any effective tactics /weapon against Boko (The North as he called them). He hopes Amnesty will work. But he forgets we now have ISIS, not just Boko of years back. When he finally decides to fight them, maybe after secret Amnesty offers are rebuffed by Boko, it will be with a heavy heart.

Probably, you know a few good ones from the above polytechnics you mentioned but it is wrong to generalize by saying polytechnic students are better than university students in accounting, that is a fallacy of hasty generalization.
Well, you misread what I wrote.

I said "Poly teach it better". It's up to the student to learn. On the average, poly students have been praised for their application of knowledge, even in engineering, while the university students might be very good in theory. It's no surprise. The polys were given a mandate to train middle tier cadre of workers/technicians for our industries. Only that the industries never came.

Poly managements soon figured out that running arts/economics based courses is far cheaper. Arts and social science students are more in number anyway, right from secondary school.

I have a cousin who studied computer science for good three years at a reputable Federal university but had never been to a computer lab and never even touched a keyboard. grin cheesy.

I vehemently disagree with that statement.

The country's educational system is poor but majority will agree that polytechnics are far worse than universities.
Accounting graduates from Auchi Poly, KadPoly, The Poly Ibadan and others are reputed to be very good. More practice-focussed.

I believe Polys should leave courses like management/Business to universities and concentrate on engineering and other technical courses.
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Polytechnic Graduates Share Your Victimisation/promotion Experience by AreaFada2:

One more reason my cousin should go to university even though polys actually teach accounting better than most universities.
