Career / Re: Increment Of Workers Salary Will Reduce Corruption – NLC by aribs(m): 2:02pm On Aug 07, 2015 |
NLC must be full of totally incompetent people who are totally unlearned, can't read or can't understand what responsibilities they have. How would the addition of a few thousand help the workers in these perilous times.inflation will.render such an increase.useless. A nation that has lost a significant.part.of.its revenue base is being asked to incur more deficit by borrowing to finance an increase in recurrent expenditure . Jeez. Where is the value such an increase will bring ? 1 Like |

Career / Re: Tips And Guides For Nigerian Young Lawyers by aribs(m): 1:09pm On Jul 30, 2015 |
Great stuff. After 10 years at the bar, half of which was spent in hard core practice,I don't see law any differently from any other professional calling. You have to be a lifetime learner. Unfortunately, the law school curriculum to me is outdated and not in tandem with what is obtainable in other countries. the practice of law has gone beyond seeking court appearances and advocacy and to survive , a young lawyer should seek to carve out a niche for himself after getting grounded properly. Networking and technology and ability to see beyond the narrow confines of law is necessary. We are not called learned for nothing 4 Likes |

May the GOOD LORD bless you for this analysis . Instead of people to seek knowledge and understanding from those who know, they go on shouting without putting things into proper context. Your insight is profound. I have been advocating for this to be done without delay for months. socialmediaman: 2 Likes |
Celebrities / Re: Opeyemi Olarinde Responds To ‘violent Adultress’ & "Husband Battery" Allegations by aribs(m): 1:53am On Jul 14, 2015 |
I don't even know what to say to this. Its amazing to see how love can turn to hate. I remember these dudes way back when they were my secondary school seniors in Ibadan. I would have thought this would end up to be the perfect high school romance. She is even a distant cousin to make matters worse and bros I know well. Well all there is to say is that since the center cannot hold, for the sake of the kids, let things be done amicably. 2 Likes |

onatisi:If you recollect the events of that era and compare that with best practices, you would notice that Atiku erred. He seemed to equate the President's position as a " first among equals" position. The presidential system is a winner takes all system and the authority is held only by the President who delegates as he deems fit. Even in developed democracies, this is how it works. Refusing to work with a lawfully appointed employee is basically disobedience to a lawful authority. 1 Like |

All folks have to do is check the constitution to see what the powers of the VP are. That's right ... he has NO powers. his tasks are to be delegated by the President who is vested with powers to make all appointments as head of the executive arm of government. This might not seem right to people who think Vice President means he has latitude to make his own decisions but this is very constitutional. Even where the VP has his own man, the Presidency is still the appointing authority. |
Politics / Re: Abacha Died 17years Ago Today...What Do You Remember Him For??? by aribs(m): 2:53pm On Jun 08, 2015 |
hmm....I was in 100L in UI then and I was waiting outside for my cousin to come out of a shop in Agbowo only for me to see people screaming Abacha is dead! I could hardly believe the spontaneous outburst of joy that greeted that pronouncement. Never seen anything like it till now. He was a despot of the most brutal kind. I can never forget those words "Enough is Enough". Scarcities of petroleum products of the worst type so bad that I remember we had to use firewood and sawdust to cook. massive looting of funds and a general feeling of hopelessness and fear, strikes of all types, Daniel Kanu and his one million man march. Nigeria has indeed come far. May Nigeria never experience such again |
Romance / Re: My Gf Is Cheating On Me But I Just Can't Explode by aribs(m): 2:13pm On May 08, 2015 |
Hey man, Hardly come here to read stuff but for some reason I read your story today and it resonated with me so I decided to share this with you. I was once in this same situation a few years back. I moved to the US and started this relationship with a girl in Nigeria. she was as caring and loving as your girl. very understanding girl at the time or so I thought. Because of the difficulties of life here in the US as a student then, I did not have enough resources to spend on calls and she did not like that. Seeing she was a bright girl, I encouraged her to come over to do her Masters too to add value to her and also that we could start something more concrete here. I spent my time and effort advising on choice of schools etc. and eventually she made it here. At the time she came, I was about to graduate and the uncertainties of life as an international student in terms of job prospects were dawning on me. resources were tight but she encouraged me through it though I noticed she was adventurous and liked the fine things of life. Just like u, I found out my babe was cheating on me while in Nigeria with a married man who she told me was only a client. Coupled with all the pressure of job search and this disappointment, I was upset and went to see her and basically made her know I knew. She cried and all but guess what? like Kowema said, she broke up with me not long after that and even blamed me. I heard a string of reasons bordering on lack of calls, not showing enough care bla bla. I was stunned and I event went apologizing even though I was the one cheated on. I even spoke to her mum in Nigeria. I felt very much like you feel now. I was so depressed I gained a lot of weight. I kept asking why as it did not make sense to me to break up after just one major issue. Relationships have ups and downs right? I would have been willing to take her back then. THE MORAL OF MY STORY: My Oga, relationships are meant to be fought for by both parties. It is a commitment that has to be shared by both. Like one of the guys pointed out, you do not want to spend the rest of your life wondering what's going on behind you when you are not there. I would suggest you let her know you know. If she wants it too, she would fight for it. Its not just about you fighting. If she does not fight for it, I take God beg you let her go. Oga someone more worthy of your love will show up. In my own case, it was as if God wanted her out of my life before blessing me tremendously. It will be tough but you will be FINE. I apologize for the length of the post 13 Likes 1 Share |
Crime / Re: Nigerian Woman, Temitope Adebamiro Kills Cheating Husband In The US (photo) by aribs(m): 7:53pm On Apr 25, 2015 |
Its irritating to see the way some folks run off their mouths over a situation they know nothing about. Pontificating and judging without knowing any of the parties. All you have here is the word of the perpetrator and nothing more. she alleges cheating and abuse and yet without hearing facts and circumstances and not even beer parlour gossip, they just go on and begin to issue dumb advice. The parties are known to me and the story as laid out by the Mrs is not true from my own understanding and insight. That is because I happen to know these. Not because I jump at every opportunity to talk about what I have no single shred of evidence on. If you feel you must talk about an event, why not wait till you have ALL facts before going on about issues posted? 1 Like 1 Share |
Politics / Re: Politics Of Oyo State, Why And How Ajimobi Won by aribs(m): 5:05pm On Apr 13, 2015 |
Having worked with Akala directly during my time in government between 2007-2011, I would boldly say Ajimobi is a better administrator , the kind of administrator the state has been yearning for for years. If one has any iota of patriotism and love for country, one will never wish to live under the terrible era Oyo was under Baba Adedibu and Otunba Akala nor wish it ever happens again. Even as part of the PDP led government, I was so tired of the impunity that I had to resign and relocate abroad to resuscitate my legal career after being emotionally drained from swimming against the tide of oppression back then. Ajimobi may not be perfect but its a step in the right direction. good performance should always be rewarded. I visited Ibadan recently and I was quite impressed with what I saw. I would think it's important to continue to encourage the governor to continue to impress with his good performance and consolidate on what has already been achieved. Ipinle Oyo o ni daru. 5 Likes 1 Share |

You would have to seek divorce under Nigerian laws in Nigerian courts and that would be the best way about it, otherwise you remain married and could be liable for bigamy. |

Best thread I have seen over here in quite a while..... for me, this has been a most amazing year... started the year with a most painful breakup, no steady job, confused about whether to stay in the US or to return to Nigeria to continue a job i had lost interest in after graduate school. fast forward to December... I am an international tax manager in NYC, I became a permanent resident of the US courtesy of my job and I am absolutely loving my life...All the glory belongs to God 4 Likes |

Awww man... i remember reading those pacesetters....its interesting to see how things have evolved. I certainly remember the planta and blue band. the pyramids are enough to show Nigeria has lost the direction to greatness somewhere along the line. I only pray the young ones (I include myself here) can bring back the glory. its a good reminder to me that even though I may no longer live in good old Naija, home is where the heart belongs. 1 Like |
