Nothing like a good ol' political crisis to make a political office holder test negative for COVID-19, especially when handing over and resignations are involved

Arsenal 1998. Double winning year. The days of Overmars, Anelka, Viera, and Tony Adams. Later reinforced with the arrival of Kanu and Henry. The game they played was sleek with a physicality that has been unseen in current teams so far. The blood and thunder matches with Man United in those days were a joy to watch. Hopefully Arteta will bring back the glory days again. I am registered as a supporter and i plan to be a season ticket holder soon

ScholarRidwan:
Dear Good people of Nairaland, please kindly take a minute to read.
Earlier this year I got an admission offer from a school in US but my application could not be evaluated for funding due to late submission. I had to differ the offer till next year and will have to submit  GRE score that was initially waived because of the pandemic to be evaluated for funding.

I was told if i could write the GRE and score very high coupled with my good academic background I'm sure going to get the funding. I already saved about 50k for the exam until I was told I'll be needing an International passport for the registration. I inquired about the cost of doing that which was 17800 on getting to immigration I spent nothing less than 40k to get the passport done. Now I'm I've just 10k left and the cost of the exam is 60k.

And the reason why I've to register now is.because there are not so many centers and if one does not register early enough (at least 3months prior) the scheduled date might not fit into your plan because of limited centers, and in my case my result must've been ready by December so I can be evaluated early enough when there would be more funding available and less competition.

I was able to raise the initial 50k by going to site with Surveyors and work as an instrument operator but the whole pandemic issue has affected the availability of jobs already and I'm even still being owed. So, I'm pleading with eyes full of tears to any kind hearted person to please come to my aid and support my ambition. I'm very positive of acing this exam and getting a full funding.
Can you support this with evidence?

Not sure how this is the government's fault. The citizens are personally responsible for their own safety and need to own the process. The government is not some big bad bully whipping everyone in line. They have told Nigerians what to do ( social distancing, wearing masks, washing hands etc.) It is each individual's duty to adhere or get infected.

So your gate of hell opener is your Gehazi and the likes? You may as well call him Jesus Christ. They complied cos they were going to be shut down and he has bellyached all over about this. Calls to question his comparison with the leading lights of the Bible. Unfortunately for his likes we dont run a pseudo theocracy so thankfully his opinion does not count in the grander scheme of things . Had he been like Tunde Bakare who gave of his free will to assist and not peddle and market unverified " miracles " and try to make themselves center of attention in the middle of a pandemic, I may have had other opinions. Your man of God should go hug a covid patient and broadcast it first then I will believe .

Who is his prophet? The partisan pastor that wanted to open the gate of hell on another ? I believe the word of God and not the words of a man suffering from the illusion of grandeur . The one that assaulted a disturbed young girl publicly cos she said she was a witch? Did your word of God not ask you to obey all authorities which your man of God seeks to undermine with his miracle peddling? The only standard is the word of God. I need no " miracle" peddlers who are spreading unfounded information all around to tell me how to read that word. Smh

These religious jobbers are here again. Who will substantiate these "cures". Why dont we ask the good pastor to please visit the various isolation centers or have him locked up with one ? After all Christ's miracles were known, even when the recipients of such miracles were warned not to disclose. We read about then cos someone saw these and reported them in the books of the bible. Who will validate these claims? What really strikes me as ironic here is this religion. Is Nigeria the only country where Christians reside? Or God is not present in other countries? Why do we allow so much ignorance, hero worship (which is virtually idolatry) to becloud our sense of reasoning? Let's give mr oyedepo and his church the opportunity to eradicate what they never saw coming in the first place please . Ridiculous nonsense

The kind of denial and ignorance I see here is the reason why this virus wont be leaving Nigeria anytime soon. I dont understand how people will assume a country as populous with ghettos, shanties, and the danfo drivers, ferries and micras cramming people in will escape a virus like this and record low numbers. The only reason we are seeing high numbers now is because the virus has finally made it into the communities and is currently being easily transmitted and testing capacity has increased. Fact: this virus has successfully being transmitted within communities in naija. It is not going anywhere. At this rate, even pastors and imams are not safe. No one is. Social distancing cannot be over emphasized enough. Those with compromised immunity systems due to underlying conditions or the elderly should please not go out. Make alternative arrangements asap. The rest of us should wear masks , practice social distancing , wash your hands or apply sanitizers, avoid touching face with bare hands, wipe down groceries and bare surfaces before touching and limit going out and fraternizing. Stay safe for your own good. Where I live is close to a hospital and one of the most haunting scenes is seeing bodies loaded into refrigerated trucks due to morgues being overwhelmed. It is in Nigeria and our healthcare system will not save you
Own your own safety and take care of your shit and spread the word not fear. Thank you

Looking through this thread , it is clear there are a lot of misinformed people in the Nigerian society. Now that the man is dead, some.people have come out to rejoice at his death and castigate the memories of a man who they assume is part of a "cabal" as sold to them by the media. They see him as responsible for the problems of Nigeria which have been the same since I was born decades ago. They ask " how has he bettered our lot" ? From a man who was not elected to serve them but the same people will collect rice to vote on Election day and keep mute while their governors rape them with no condom. How is that smart thinking? I have always said Nigerians love their oppressors. They fantasize about them.day and night cos that is what they will do too if they had the same opportunity. The said man was not elected to serve them. He was at best a presidential support staff who was in charge of scheduling activities of the President and a sort of informal adviser. Where are the epistles you have written for your governors who you voted and collected rice from? The same ones who actually have budgets that could implement social programs that could better your lot. If you must worry about Kyari , face his principal who was elected and your governors to ask about why things are the way they are. If you have no condolences to give (like we all wont die abi), just shut it and hope coronavirus does not come by your doorstep before its done with Nigeria. Nonsense !

Sir, if you are truly a lawyer like you allege, you will understand that my allegation of fact is based on a Tiv Ordinance already judicially recognized by Nigerian Courts...So I have nothing else to prove to you

Since you are alleging that the said ordinance has been repealed, it is for you to back up your claim with facts...if you are a lawyer, you will also know that the Evidence Act provides that he who asserts must prove...you are the one asserting that adultery is now an offence in Tiv Land, the Ordinance having been repealed... it's up to you to prove that...

This is very basic law..at least in Nigeria...if you cant appreciate this, then you are on your own Sir

I dont need to justify my legal knowledge to you. I dont even care whether u believe it or not frankly . I have mentioned constraints i have so now please show me where i lied since you say it is still in force..I am.waiting. I will.not debate the evidence act with you. Only show me where your great theory on the TIv is factual other than this case specific case law and where your research has shown . This is 2020

And yes...that ordinance is still in place in Benue...ols do well to show proof of it repealed as you allege..

Adultery is still not an offence among the TIV...#fact

Which fact are you mentioning sir. I am.not even Tiv but I have taken the time to study that allegation and I have found it to be false. Maybe you can let me know where this " fact " is . Empirical study ? You are Tiv yourself ? Beer parlor rumours? Hearsay? Oh to the ordinance unfortunately I dont live in Nigeria at the moment so I am.not in a.position to show you. Your case law ( specific fact based ) which you have used to cast sweeping assertions about this tribe? Pray do tell

If you actually read that case of Tofi v Uba, you will understand that the ordinance was juxtaposed with the part of section 36 CFRN which prohibits a person from being tried much less convicted for an offence not stipulated in a written law...

Good Sir, criminal laws are by their nature prohibitive, not permissive...it is trite that anything not expressly prohibited is permitted...
Sir your lead post said this is a permissible action for this tribe and I will argue that this is a sweeping statement that holds no basis. You have singled out one tribe in your assertion based on a case of an individual..rightly the law cited: section 33 1979 constitution now equivalent of section 36 does not criminalize this action. Does this then not mean that same section is applicable to all other tribes in Nigeria, particularly seeing the fact that the ordinance cited is no longer law in Benue? After all you are making this sweeping statement in 2020 here

The order you quited does not criminalize adultery...finito

Esentially, that order allowed the Respondent to walk free from the charge of adultery...

If you are a lawyer like myself, you will understand that it is trite that what isn't expressly prohibited is permissible
Agreed this law does not criminalize the act itself as indicated from the facts of the case. Is this technical decision your basis for asserting the tribe permits adultery? How about Sugh vs State (1988) 2NWLR PT 77 475 SC? Or Ahungur vs State (2012) 12 NWLR ( PT 1313) 187 SC ?or just carrying out an empirical study yourself to find out? And no I am.no lawyer , I just happened to have been called to bar in 2005

Chopping another man's wife is a taboo in my village ...''chopping" as in ''fvcking"....

But i understand that in some parts of Benue State, men give out their wives and daughters as Kola to visitors shocked...as in if you are spending the night in his house, he can delegate one of his wives or daughters to keep you in satisfactory coital company overnight....

Point is....one man's meat is another man's poison cool

Modified

I have been getting some mentions telling me the Benue tradition I stated above isn't true...sad

Up till tomorrow, adultery is not prohibited among the Tivi tribe in Benue State..there, you cannot be convicted for knacking someone's wife...

If you think I am lying, please find and read the cases of Apiko V Ikogi and Tofi v Uba, the latter having been decided by the Nigerian Court of Appeal..

For ease of reference, here are the cases' Court citations:

Tofi v Uba (1987) 3 NWLR PT.62 P.723 PARA A-H

APIKO UNOGWU V GABRIEL IKOGI-APPEAL NO. OHC/19A/2008
The appellant’s appeal to the Court of Appeal was dismissed on rather technical grounds. That Court held that since the Local Government (Declaration of Tiv Customary Marriage) Order, 1985, did not prohibit adultery in express terms but merely criminalised wrongful detention of a married woman against her husband’s wish, section 33(12) of the then 1979 Constitution was rightly invoked by the 1st respondent; because this meant adultery per se was not a crime in Tiv land. The fact that this technicality was invoked in dismissing the appeal does not mean adultery is permissible within the said tribe sir. Your interpretation of the facts therein will be incorrect. This is in reference to Tofi vs Uba

Yup understand the nigerian/African dynamics but I guess you can then appreciate her fears here which is what I believe she was trying to express. There is no doubt that staying away from each other , observing appropriate distancing, protective gear, and in cases, staying home has helped countries already hard hit start recovering. We do not have the healthcare infrastructure to support large numbers of sick people all at once and I believe this disease is not even close to reaching its peak in Nigeria. This is why we need assistance and our people will have to bear some sort of sacrifice also. Na person wey dey alive and well dey hustle for daily bread o

Testing enables you project properly with respect to equipment and personnel needed for hospitalizations. If you dont prepare to hospitalize properly and you have a wave of patients you did not anticipate and there is a shortage of life saving equipment and personnel, which statistics do you think will be impacted? Death rate certainly

As for that woman na her house hold death go visit not africa.

And how do you know this? Because NCDC said this? We have an effective register of births and deaths in Nigeria? Proper post mortem for ALL dead bodies to ascertain cause of death? Even the doctors will tell you that right now in their various teaching hospitals there are patients who are suspected to have Covid 19 that they are battling to get NCDC to come test their samples. Even in the US, the death toll is inaccurate cos it does not include the people who died at home

If you spoke to your doctors in Nigeria as I have , you would know that there is severe undercounting and under testing going on right now with respect to COViD 19. The lady has merely expressed her fears which are very well founded when you consider all the circumstances but no , reactions are just religious mumbo jumbo and cursing. I am sure many of those commenting do not even know there is currently a Lassa fever epidemic in Nigeria which has claimed dozens of lives, including those of health workers
The reality is we should be afraid, very afraid and take concrete steps to avert the disaster ahead and take heed of the message. Even your pastors are self isolating and using hypo to wash their hands
