Marrying the wrong person will change your life drastically. Either due to rage from you or destructive acts by the spouse. People should Shine their eyes.

Let her get a lawyer. Otherwise what do you think these guys with her have to gain by going as far as being paraded by police if it was a setup? OP, you can't vouch for anyone o. We humans are capable of anything. Can you even trust or predict your own actions 100% OP? May we not be faced with challenges that cause us to take irrational decisions.
You just said a cotton-pickin' mouthful. If the unfortunate spouse is able to put their lives back together, then they're the lucky few. Why women have to remain in a relationship that demeans them is beyond me.

Darling, you lack love....and I am not insulting you
Little mind, even littler heart...biko, don't be like this

So you have never sinned?
I wonder at the kind of mind that would judge other people so calmly (or stridently even) , so coldly, so totally, so matter of factly, so completely, so unforgivingly
(Shudders)

You need to change the way you see and react to your world
So you do not think that the hell this girl, and her poor family must be going through right now is enough punishment? shocked
The sordid video her father would watch and how his heart would break seeing his darling little girl like that.....how her siblings would be ashamed to come out in public, and the way their hearts would break for her, how they would want to crash every social media in order to protect their darling sister....their sister who would share her food with them, pillow fight with them, let them drive her car.....then her dear mother...no words about the pain she must feel.....their treatment in society and church and everywhere.....how her kids would possibly see that video in future...and how she definitely has "ruined" her chances of getting the big prizes in our society...jobs. marriage, etc
Then the surely sorry, broken, devastated -at -her -and -her -family's sure shame she must feel .....

The blackmail that was said to have happened...and the way she surely must have run through whatever money she has/had...the fact that sleep and appetite have most probably eluded her for the next ten years or more....her loss of standing, her loss of everything. She could be seriously contemplating suicide and have suicidal thoughts right now....she may have a grandparent who is struggling to come to terms with what they are hearing about their beloved grandkid. Have you considered that she may have been drugged....that people (older, richer, more powerful) may have exploited her greed for whatever...money, standing, just whatever?
All these and you still need her to be punished? Why?
She could be an angel who has this one weakness, or two, or more ( acts) ....she could be respectful, loyal, funny, fun to be with, a joy to every one who knows her, obedient, very loving....and you want her punished in that dear "angel without sin" tone

Why do we have this need to trample people to smithereens in our society? What are we really fighting when we do this? And we have all the religion, no? ... and worship God like no other and then what? lipsrsealed
I sin, you sin, our parents sin, our politicians rape and rob us blind everyday....everybody sins
She got caught....has been shamed, must be regreting her actions, and with her family is traumatised like no one can imagine....and that is not enough?

No more free money. You are expected to work. In saner countries, public service is exactly what is....service. Not an opportunity to amass stupendous wealth as has been the case in Nigeria. So those who know themselves have advised themselves accordingly. This is a good sign. And it is what Nigerians have been praying for: public offices must be made less lucrative and therefore less attractive. But in the rush to condemn because of political affiliation or ethnic bigotry, a lot of people won't see that.

Just look at these ladies. They have forgotten that they will become mothers in law one day. Just look at the nonsense they are saying. Na somebody marry these ones o.

You cannot stop his mother from moving in unless you are evil. She is his mother and they are related by blood and genes. You on the other hand were married.

You can divorce a wife but not a mother. Better respect the bond between a man and his family before marrying him.

The good woman raised him to be a good catch for you but now you want to relegate her.

The man will decide not you. Nonsense.

As expected, a couple of wicked jezebels have quoted me. You have no choice. The mother raised the man and you will not have authority over her unless you want your daughters in law to dictate when you visit your own sons. Make una go siddon. Nonsense.
"The mother raised the man" ? She did a poor job otherwise he would take care of his home front and his wife's emotional needs and not look for mummy to come and live in his house when she has her own. "Nonsense"
What women will put up with for the sake of being married. By God's grace, at that age I will have a full and very busy life and will have no time to go hanging on any of my sons when they should be concentrating on building a life with their wives. I am raising them well. Nigerian mothers need to check themselves. In the way they relate with their married sons and their wives and the way they raise their young sons who will be tomorrow's married men. Thank God I had a good example in my Mum. She's too busy looking after her husband, running her NGO and enjoying her life. Her 3 daughters in law are the ones looking for her to come spend time with her grandchildren.

The issue at hand is not Buhari vs GEJ. Simply put she believed Buhari was the savior but unfortunately he failed to live up to expectations and faltered in key areas. For example there was no really for delay of appointment of ministers.
Spot on. Some people here are either blinded by tribalism, bigotry or political affiliation. Or just plain dumb. Drop this Gej V Buhari nonsense. Jonathan was an abysmal failure . FACT. Buhari had an opportunity to turn things around but he doesn't seem to even have a plan let alone know how to implement it. This government was taken over ages ago and Buhari is helpless and inept. He has squandered the goodwill of Nigerians which he sorely needed to steer this country through these difficult times. Adichie called it like it is.

Family › Re: Woman Discovers She's Being Married To A Dead Man For 6 Years - Her Reaction ? by Arielle: 12:59pm On Oct 13, 2016
As unbelievable as it sounds, I have heard this about someone I know of. It was quite a scandal at the time. The woman was a popular akara seller opposite the hospital in a town called Ikom in cross river state. This happened I think in the 80 ' s so my memory is a bit sketchy. But she was well known. She was married with children. A visitor saw her and went back to her family in Akwa Ibom to report that he had seen a woman who bears an uncanny resemblance to their daughter who had died over 10 years before. The woman's brother went back with the man, and was directed to her house. When he saw her he started wailing and confronted her openly. She entered her room, locked the door and vanished. At least that was the narration we heard. Suffice it to say, the woman's children are still there and the whole community knows the story. The madam vanished till today. Creepy! The Yoruba's call them akudaaya I think. Fascinating. I like paranormal stories.

I couldn't even finish reading that crap that is supposed to pass for journalism. "Rescued from squalor" indeed. Where do you people get your God complex from? She probably refused to hand over her paycheck. You marry a girl and 'rescue' her from poverty, bring her to almighty USA, 'invest' in her education and of course expect to reap the fruits of his investment. Is she your cash cow? I know a couple with this same problem because she won't hand over her earnings and she runs a tight budget since Oga will not work. He expects her to fork over cash so he can roam the streets of Atlanta forming big boy. Instead of the man to be appreciative that the woman is the frugal sort and is saving every penny for college for the children, small investments to yield extra cash for savings and even a mortgage for a ridiculously large house he insisted on, the guy was angry that the woman has grown wings and is keeping him from enjoying his 'investment'. Shebi this idiot has murdered his wife. Okay he will find the respect he is looking for in jail when 'Bubba' makes him his biatch! Anuofia!
Literature › Re: Chimamanda Adichie: "Beyonce Didn't Make Me Popular" by Arielle: 9:00am On Oct 11, 2016
Some things are better left unsaid. I think she should have risen above it all. The truth is that people know her more for her books. The majority of the demography that knows about her from Beyonce ' s song have never heard of her books. For several reasons. They don't read at all, they don't read African literature, they only read sports pages or lad's mags ....There are so many reasons because Beyonce ' s fans cut across myriad groups of people and ethnicities. So yeah, she got extra props for the added exposure. She could have graciously left it at that. I'm a huge Chimamanda fan but I think her comments came across as snarky and unworthy of her.
Another thing I hate is this divide. As women we're always finding ways to divide ourselves. Why create 'brands' of feminism? Beyonce is finding her own power in the environment she knows or is comfortable in. She may never have written a word in her life but it doesn't invalidate what she has achieved. I don't like women who seemingly look down on other women for embracing their femininity. So what if she wants him to "put a ring on it" or she dresses to please her man. I think Ms Adichie got it wrong here.

Acidosis:
You really don't see any wrong in a married woman calling her son her life?

Do you know what that means?

If you say men should not demand events to revolve around them, why justify her praises to her son? or is the son not a man?

If things can revolve around the son, what about the husband? Oh, I forgot the guy is the number 1 person in her life, not the husband (my only and main issue with her post BTW).

Marriage is not by force anyways but if you must get married, stick with the ideal rules.
Oga Acidosis, you're a real baby sha! grin. But her son is her life, na. Let's get real. The bond between mother and son must be extraordinary considering what they must have passed through together before her husband came along. It makes no sense trying to compete with that. I'm sure the husband realises that. Besides we're assuming everything is ship - shape in her marriage. What if it isn't? With a background like hers, harsh words that are thrown out in the heat of the moment can really cut to the quick. Cut her some slack. It isn't easy to be a woman in a country like Nigeria. Let alone a woman with her history. She's incredibly brave to share her story and her identity.

I quite disagree with you.

A lot of girls who had teenage pregnancies dropped out of school, and never made much of their lives.
She did. She's come a long way, and despite all the challenges she faced has been able to turn her life around and make the best out of a bad situation. She's raised a fine young man (of course with the help of her parents), has a job which meets her basic needs, is well educated and is in a committed relationship (nothing more serious than marriage when we talk of relationships).
She did all this by herself, she had the strenght and will power to keep going even at such a young age. Believe in yourself, never give up and when life gives you lemons make lemonade out of it.
That's a lesson I've just garnered from her life. Another important lesson lest I forget, is thatnof accepting responsibility for her actions. She knew she was at fault, took responsibility for her actions and paid for it. She didn't wallow in self pity when she was sent to the village, she didn't blame other people for her misfortune ( a lot of adults even on NL still do this), she didn't blame her parents, she didnt blame the boy who impregnated her, she blamed herself!, And she also knew she was the only one that could make things right. There are consequences for our actions. I hope people can see this in her story. It was rough for her.
This is equally a lesson to parents who have children that get pregnant while still teenagers. Help support them, the deed is already done and they can still make you proud. Don't throw them out to the dogs to feed on. Her parents helped raise that child to where he is now- a 200L law undergraduate. Just as intelligent as his mother. The boy looks so young like secondary school boy sef.
The present life she has now with her husband is another phase of her life, a new phase, a totally different life. She's just starting to build and form memories in that new phase. I won't be surprised if she hasn't been married for more than 2 years.
Shes still quite young in my own opinion

Probably because he did her a huge favour by marrying her poor unworthy self. undecided Why must it always revolve around you men? Her remarkable story is about herself and her son. Because she didn't shower encomiums on her husbands doesn't mean she doesn't appreciate him. How can you infer that?

Only the very rich have the money, time, taste or appreciation to restore a vintage car. Antiques are usually the purview of the very rich as they can afford it. The car is most likely owned by the couple or a close friend or family member, because people who restore cars or other vintage items engage in it purely as an expensive hobby, and not usually for gain. Hey guyz, lets face the fact. I am not against women being hardworking or learning skills, i myself am a professional Bead and Hat maker, but the point is that i do not encourage women going into extremely strenuous jobs some of which are naturally made for men who have stronger bodies and a greater strength.

The richest African woman today (Alakija) started out as a fashion designer and see where she is today.
The female structure is quite fragile and extremely strenuous jobs can affect a woman's health and even probably her fertility. We already have enough stress and pains during childbirth and our monthly periods.

How many of you guys would be willing to marry a succesful bricklayer over a succesful fashion designer?
I beg to differ. If that were the case, if that were the case Wolfgang Puck and other world renowned Michelin starred chefs would not have followed their calling. Nigeria ' s own Tosan Jemide would not have shared his awesome talent with us. I know an IT engineer, truly talented and extremely hard working. When she takes off her overalls, she's a very girly girl. How about Lady Mechanic, who's a personal friend? My point is skill is not, or should not, be gender based. All that's required is determination, hard work and passion. I find it funny that ladies that would be the first to complain when men pigeon - hole them into traditional 'female' are doing it to themselves because they don't want to get their hands dirty. This awesome young lady could well become the CEO of a construction or building company, breaking new ground in building technology if she keeps at it. While her peers are busy making beads like one million other girls are doing. If that's you're calling, fine. But don't discourage others with the guts, drive and ambition to develop or build upon a sellable skill and reach for the stars. Oh and Mrs Alakija did not make her billions by being a fashion designer.
