Very true. Seeing heart rending situations like these and being helpless to act. A lot of war photographers can barely lead normal lives afterwards sad

Does'nt mean anything. Is the Comptroller General supposed to be a billionaire?Does he earn the same salary as CEO of Fortune 500 company on Wall Street? We all know the official salaries of goverment officials in the country. Just because Atiku Abubakar used his position when he Comptroller General to engage in many questionable acts and collect bribes does'nt mean Comptroller General earn billions during their time in office.
Why is it only Nigerian Comptroller Generals that become billionaires, why not their colleagues in UK,USA,Canada?
Based on their officials salaries and benefits goverment officials are not supposed to become billionaires.Nigeria is the headquarters of corruption in the world which explains why every goverment official is a billioanire.
OP don't waste your breath. People who like him for whatever reason will always make excuses. Maybe he's "our son" or "my guy". They will abuse you and call you a poor busy body who won't work hard to "make it". Accountability is a word we just throw around when it is politically or personally expedient.
And no, Donald was not a wealthy man by any stretch of the imagination. Far from it. And it us only in Nigeria where one can point to public office as being the source of someone's wealth. This country will never, ever get better as long as our attitudes and skewed values remain the same.

I don't know what generation you're from (no be everybody be mate for this Nairaland) but I'm glad for the beatings I received from my parents. It shaped me to be the man I am today. I am glad for all the slaps I got for stealing, the combos I received for lying. How can I forget the belts coupled with blows and kicks for the worst of my behaviours. I am glad for all of them. Can you feel the smile emanating from the stories? Those are feelings of joy, not of people who saw their parents as monsters. Are there people who didn't change even though they got hit? Yes. But a large percentage are better people because of those beatings. I wouldn't have it any other way.
To my unborn children, papa loves you so much but my belt(s) is anxiously waiting for your buttocks. *I know you will be good children though*
Well said.
Haven't laughed so hard in ages! I watch my parents with my kids and I can't believe they're the same people that used to terrorise my brothers and I. The day I heard my Dad singing nursery rhymes to my boys when they were little I almost fell off my chair in shock!

I didnt ask you not to give praise to whoever you deem fit: I am saying there was no need to hide under the guise of miracle for such a medical breakthrough. Tell it as it is, so that peeps with difficulty in conception can use the same method and also finally give praise to whoever they want to when it works for them too.
Spot on. It's no wonder we are at the bottom of everything. People need practical help and advice. Are we to believe the woman sat around for 10 years praying and fasting and the babies just appeared in her womb? Let's talk about the medical and scientific achievements made in insemination and care of the mother and the babies and their successful delivery. Instead of
relegating such achievements to the background

Nobody is disputing the potency of herbal drugs

How much research is being done to make it potent is what important? Why can't it be documented like other drugs you take. Why can't it be tested for potency to meet international standard?

These are many more must be the questions to ask.

Just like you have school of scienec and engineering and you can't even boast of a car manufacturing facility in this country just quacks

We must develop it to meet int'l standard
I agree but I'm really sceptical of this so - asked international standards when it concerns things produced by and for the good of Africans. The global pharmaceutical industry is run like a mafia. Why would it give a positive rating to anything that attempts to by - pass it's influence and profit? One of our problems here us a lack of sincerity of purpose. Why can we not set standards for ourselves? Do we not know how certain drugs should work and what reactions are good and those that are not? We have the brains in this country. If it's the technology, why can't we use theirs to develop our scientists, pharmacists, lab technicians etc specifically for this purpose? The whites are experts at taking other people's things (traditions, customs etc ) and making it theirs. Why can't we do the same?

Pharmaceuticals manufacture diseases and provide you with so called cure at your expense. Watch what you eat and excreate and the Medics will search for another job. They are in business because the populace is ignorant that nature put every solutions to our health at the locations we were born.

By the way, I dont take pharmaceutical drugs anymore, dont remember taking it for years. Whatever your health need is, look locally for organic herbal or dietary treatment. And dont wait to get sick. Get those fruits and vegs smoothied daily for optimum health. Even marijuan does magic for so many ailments if you can handle the smell, the stigma and the hallucinations.

Dishonest and despicable behaviour like this is widespread across Nigeria. From staff in IDP camps, staff in boarding schools, hospitals even orphanages stealing items meant for their charges. Items bought or donated by well meaning people. The unfortunate truth is that we're a dishonest people. A large number of Nigerians are, and that's the truth. And we get upset when we're called names. So sickening. I wonder when or if we will ever change.

Tomorrow when she marries one white man and makes a similar statement, y'all will come back with this statement

It doesn't matter where the black man is from, majority simply don't know how to treat women.

You need not look far to confirm her statement. Black men are the only race of men who get a kick out of insulting and degrading their own women in public
Too true.

I weep for this country. The leaders, the followers, the so - called youth who should know better, the tired decrepit old corrupt thieves who have dragged us to the abyss while they gleefully destroy the futures of our children. All are the same, to my immense shock. There can never be any hope for Nigeria, populated with people like these. Nairaland is a good indication of what we're truly like as a people. What a rude awakening for people like me, who still held out just the slightest bit of hope in our basic sense of right and wrong and a collective will to better our country in the face of all our challenges.

malton:
One day, Nigeria shall import even dark skinned people.

What this country needs is a dictator with good intentions, solid policies, and the willpower to get things done. Someone who doesn't take no for an answer. Western liberalism will obviously get us nowhere.

Someone once argued that a "capable, technocratic authoritarian government on top of its game is far better for a developing, background country than a democratic one." I thought he was being naive when I read his submission. How true this is for my country.

Let's face it, Nigeria's problem isn't the system of government nor the people. Our issue stems from having successive governments that have failed to make a headway in spite of all the support they have got.

Singapore, China, S. Korea, Japan, and Taiwan, to list a few, have all turned their fortunes around despite being a unitary government. Canada, England, Spain, etc have done so as a constitutional monarchy. The US, Germany, Switzerland, etc. have gone on to achieve greatness as a republic.

Our problems:

1. Religiousity

2. Too many vested interests (generator importers cabal frustrating power stability, transport moguls frustrating railway, and so many more)

3. Lack of will

4. Skew sighted, warped, and bigoted "leaders"

5. The political circle comprises 90% illiterates who are incapable of any good by themselves.

We need a benevolent dictator to right many wrongs before things can take shape in this country. The masses are willing, but that's about as much power as they have got. The political parties keep churning out dundees.

I can't shout!

What a load of hogwash! My best friend makes souvenirs and branded items for events and festivals. Her quality is top notch. People thought they were made in Europe. But she makes them in China. She told the manufacturers the products were for the European market. Her China based agent picks them up from the manufacturers and sends them to her in Nigeria. The truth is that these Chinese are used to producing sub standard goods for the nigerian market because that is what is requested by the nigerian businessmen who place the orders. For maximum profit. The Chinese are also very dubious. Any mention of the nigerian market and your products will be made to the lowest possible standard because that's what they've been used to doing. Again to maximise profit.
So these chaps should save their stories. No one's buying it.
