Health care could be comparable to what obtains in saner climes with the input of government but thinking about it we never even had no govt. No electricity, we got generators. Bad roads, we get bigger cars. Truth is the output of doctors would be way better if basic machineries were in place but then. It isn't just the hospitals. Its in all sector.. theplanmaker: oh I have seen worse......there are cases in Ubth were consultants refuse to attend to patients except they register in their private clinics, this is what medicine has turned to in Nigeria. unlike education, poor funding is not the biggest problem in the health sector........corruption is the problem.

Sweetliver: JP,I have read your write up and it's obvious on whose camp your are in. Have you taken time to read the 24 demands well. Inasmush as by indications the doctors are the head of the hospital,it doesn't mean they should decide on other health workers issues.
Firstly ,your taken on "CONSULTANTS" what JOHESU is saying have had a lot of experience in a particular area and also go further POST GRADUATE studies as in d case of doctors why deny such a person ''consultancy''. Every health worker in a hospital knows his jurisdiction.
Secondly, RELATIVITY. what type of RELATIVITY do d doctors want again when they start them from GRADE 12 already. Is that not relativity?
Thirdly,CMD/MD:we are all humans,if you have been following this debate hospitals where run by Hospital administrators who are not doctors,Med lab scientist, Nurses etc. don't you think it will be reduce been biased.

On many threads I think how the term consultant is arrived at in the hospital setting has been explained, many health workers don't know their jurisdiction.
It will only lead to chaos.

greatbygrace: I never mentioned in my post that all doctors are arrogant, the fact is that many doc. I know are intelligent and humble but from what I can see from this forum many are arrogant and I don't disagree with the fact that some/many JOHESU members have low self esteem.
All I'm saying is that if everyone puts the interest of the patient at heart things will be better.
There is nothing wrong if a Doctor corrects a pharm. Or a pharm. Corrects a doc. Or if a physio advises to on patient treatment, or a nurse suggesting sometin. If its for the patient's best interest
If each and everyone speaks to each other politely and everyone especially other healthcare proffessionals impropves themselves to bring sometin new to the table, then all dis power tusle will b a thing of the past.

But if a doctor looks down on others, others will want to do d same.
In a case where a consultant prescribes a drug and a pharmacist thinks otherwise, if they both have the interest of the patient at heart, they will listen to each other.
Usually the doctor has his reasons for writing what he wrote(drugs) and sometimes the doctors are wrong. If the doctor is wrong and egoistic then the patient will suffer but if the doctor is humble enough to admit the mistake, the patient is better and the Doc. takes the glory.

#team work, effective communication, mutual respect. Then will our health system be great and have better patient satisfaction

Point of correction while I agree that there are some arrogant drs, the arrogance isn't because of medicine its a fundamental HUMAN FLAW. However its unfair to tag all drs arrogant. That being said a large majority of those shouting ego ego ego have low self esteem. I have seen some johesuites here who are really proud ofttheir profession.

When u read what they post you know they tactically aren't taking sides but defend their profession with pride. .

One of my bosses talks very fast, during a dept meeting another one asked why he always spoke so fast and he said he was a stammerer precious and used the speed to overcome it.
