The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has called on Professor Barth Nnaji, the Power Minister, to resign immediately.

In a statement signed by Joe Ajaero, its General Secretary, the group cited Professor Nnaji’s “vituperation on the Workers, his fraudulent activities in the Power Sector and unnecessarily putting Nigerians under tension as characterized by his myriads of misinformation.”

They also demanded that he explain, before the end of Friday August 17, his role or activities in relation to several issues, including:

N395m collected from PHCN allegedly for the Media, for 3 months;
N280m collected from PHCN allegedly for Nigeria Army;
N200m collected from PHCN allegedly for Unknown Project in the Power Ministry;
N86m collected from PHCN allegedly for a bullet -proof vehicle;
N3m collected from PHCN and donated to Enugu State University of Technology (ESUT); and
Employment of 20 people in Enugu Zone of PHCN who are his kith and kins as staff two years after the closing date of casual employment and close of PHCN biometrics exercise.

“He should also explain to Nigerians why we have been collecting Pension and Gratuity from 1972 till June 2012 based on 25 percent, and why his reform tends to short change the workers,” the statement said, adding that the development confirms the fears of workers in the power sector that Nnaji’s reform is aimed at strangulating workers.

PRESS RELEASE
PROF. BARTH NNAJI RESIGN NOW!
It has become imperative at this juncture to call for the immediate Resignation of the Professor Barth Nnaji as Power Minister based on his recent vituperation on the Workers, his fraudulent activities in the Power Sector and unnecessarily putting Nigerians under tension as characterized by his myriads of misinformation.

We therefore demand for explanations before the end of Friday August 17, 2012 his role or activities in relation to the following;

1. N395m collected from PHCN allegedly for the Media, for 3 months
2. N280m collected from PHCN allegedly for Nigeria Army
3. N200m collected from PHCN allegedly for Unknown Project in the Power Ministry

4. N86m collected from PHCN allegedly for Bullet Proof Vehicle
5. N3m collected from PHCN and donated to Enugu State University of Technology (ESUT)

6. Employment of 20 people in Enugu Zone of PHCN who are his kith and kins as staff two years after the closing date of casual employment and close of PHCN biometrics exercise.

7. Refusal to pay Regularized Casual Staff their salaries since February 2012

8. Appointment of Geometric staff as Bulk Trader in the Sector thereby giving advantage of load allocation to his company.

9. Dual Role as Chairman Geometrics Power Ltd, Chairman Aba Power Ltd and Minister of Power on pretence of blind thrust that is non existent in Nigeria.

10. Explain to Nigerians why a man who ran Geometric to bankruptcy and is being rescued by Government owned AMCON should continue to run the affairs of the Power Sector.

Based on the foregoing, the Power Minister should explain why we should continue to have anything to do with him before the expiration of date. He should also explain to Nigerians why we have been collecting Pension and Gratuity from 1972 till June 2012 based on 25 percent, and why his reform tends to short change the workers. This confirms fears of workers in the Sector that Nnajis reform is aimed at strangulating workers.

2mch: The fact remains the whole SE is the size of Oyo alone. The fact also remains that the population you see in the SE is because they are jam packed into a very small land area. So the population will look bigger than it is. The fact remains Igbo's are in the SW in the greatest population in Nigeria. Should they try to cause trouble, it will be to their detriment. Face the people issuing threats and advise them. I hope you all learn from history. I am just speaking facts. if you dont like it, nothing can be done about that. wink
lol unfortunately they are not issuing any threat to any igbo so that is non of our biz.it is the farouk,asari and faany that are exchanging words.please face those from the north that are issuing threat and slyly called awo a coward.size means nothing in development if not sudan should be more developed than luxemburg.yeah the same way a well travelled northerner will also say the igbos in the nothern domain is higher than any other zone sheesh.

who is talking landmass?that the landmass in south east is small is not disputed.i can now conveniently say that you have not been to south east before.aba scanty?you are just a slowpoke lol.being to enugu and ebonyi indeed even though these 2 states are not the most dense of igbo states.i guess you are comfortable with the development of the south west vis a vis what it can actually be.

hehe i can see you do not know much about the south east especially anambra and imo axis.scanty indeed lol.please stop the ignorance.you are the one that is actually unexposed.that you see lots of igbos in the west means jack when looking at th population in the east sheesh.i guess the north would also say the same thing judging from the population of igbos in the north.

And we are triple your size in population, this is not counting the ones that live outside the SW? You must live abroad. Make sure you come and fight and witness. I hope we dont hear about cries of extinction. Till then you can sit back in your toilet job and fight on the internet, while your oga is on break. I asked you to say amen to your lie, why are you shifting the goal post? Do they teach you guys to lie and boast when you are born or what? is it cultural?

FROM: Ben Agande, Abuja.
The least qualified staff of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria with School Certificate will be paid a minimum of N8million while the highest officer in the organization will receive at least N38million total package in the payment arrangement being organized by the federal government as part of the repositioning of the company.

Minister of Power, Professor Barth Nnaji who stated this Monday while addressing state House correspondents after briefing Goodluck Jonathan on the Key performance Indicator KPI described unions in the PHCN as outlaws who are inconsiderate of the various positive steps being taken by Federal Government to address their plight following the privatization of the organization.

According to the minister the Federal Government has accepted to pay the aggrieved workers a total of 15 percent as severance package for each employee over a period covering 2003 to 2012.

Part of the payment the minister said, will comprise of 7.5 percent employer contribution as specified under the new pension law and another 7.5 percent expected to have been contributed by the workers themselves.

He said available records indicated that PHCN has failed to remit its quota of 7.5 percent to the workers pension accounts, adding that Government has however accepted to pay such defaults amounting to 15 percent for each beneficiary against insinuation that the PHCN workers will receive a flat benefit of N85,000.

“The talk about some staff going home with N85,000 is from people who have a different mission,” he said.

“The PHCN unions are contituting themselves as outlaws,” the minister said.

Speaking on the performance of the power sector, Professor Nanji said the National Assembly NASS approved a total of N78.4b to cover other constituency projects adding that of this amount, N21.5billion had been released with N 11.4billion representing 52.5 percent utilized.

He said the 2012 budget focused on resucitating the Rural Electricity Agency to make electricity more accessible to Nigerians particularly at the rural areas.

“National Integrated Power Projects NIPP projects have been accelerated and will be completed this year. There are 10 NIPP plants across the country. Government is working hard to supply gas to the plantsn” he said.

He said the 2013 budget will concentrate on giving full implementation of the electricity reforms and completion of on going projects as well as establishment of gas and power infrstructure bond with increased funding of generating companies.

He said power will continue to improve in the country considering the efforts being made by government.

aletheia: @OP: Learn to use power responsibly. Here are some tips to cut down on energy expenditure.
1. Change all your light bulbs to low energy ones.
2. Switch off lights when you are not in the room. Conversely, only switch on lights in rooms that you are actually present in.
3. Boil only the amount of water you need. E.g. it is waste to boil a kettle of water when all you need is a cup of hot water.

If there is no power you will complain. Now you have 22hrs/day, you still complain. What do you people want? >:(
awuf! the rate self is normal.however the poster is yet to tell us how he actually uses his appliances.

Northern Muslim Elders Reply Asari Dokubo: Go And Read Your History

Asari Dokubo
By SaharaReporters, New York

Prominent Northern Muslims elders, represented by Alhaji Usman Faruk, a former military governor of North-West State during the General Yakubu Gowon regime, have dismissed the threats of the leader of the Niger Delta Volunteer Force (NDVF), Mujahideen Dokubo Asari, telling him to go and brush up on his History of Nigeria.

The response came yesterday at the Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna wher Faruk, a frequent face at the Sheik Ahmad Gumi’s Ramadan sermon, was asked to speak, from the elders’ perspective, on Asari’s threat to Northern Nigeria.

A source at the event related to SaharaReporters that Alhaji Faruk first commented that the elders had waited to hear whether President Goodluck Jonathan would say something about Asari’s threats to cut off the North and his bragging about the armoury under the NDVF, but that no such response had come.

Of the elders, he then noted that they were the ones that fought the civil war. “We conquered them including their Bayelsa and gained victory, the answer I will give him is he is not the first to fly the kite.”

Faruk said that before the start of the civil war in 1967, his government set Chief Obafemi Awolowo free from prison although it was another government that had put him there.

“Eventually when the war was to start with Biafra, [Awolowo] went to Ibadan and gathered all Yorubas that they should know the war about to commence was between the North and the East, and the Yoruba in the West were not part of it,” he said.

“We received this with shock and the whole Northerners met in Kaduna and we issued them a warning that we heard they (Yoruba) were not part of it and we agreed but we have one demand,” he said.

That condition, according to him was the establishment of a One Mile Corridor. “From Offa which is in our region, from the rail line to the sea (wharf) we declare One Mile Military Corridor, meaning all of them who built houses within One Mile, we will crush down their houses. And nobody will stop our vehicles and vessels from accessing the sea, this we told our Yorubas in Ilorin to tell them. And from that time we never hear them. This is Military Corridor, we of the past hope our children will carry it,” warning that nobody could stop the people of the North, whom he said number 120 million, from accessing the sea.

“If he doesn’t know let Dokubo go and read history,” Faruk said. “Awolowo attempted he failed talk less of one boy.”

He also disputed the Nigeria’s population according to religion, blaming Obasanjo for refusing identification by religious faith in the 2006 census in order to avoid proving that Muslims are populated than the rest. “Today, our population is as Muslims is 120 million and the rest are 50 million,” he said. “Because of this, if census will be conducted again they must be column for religion.”

The source said Faruk also blamed politicians, including Northerners he claimed to have been bribed, for the onshore/offshore economic imbalance.

“This comprehension is above our people here it means, crude oil extracting in the sea and that in the non sea region,” he said. “From Lagos to the high sea it about 200 mile and people like Ghali Umar Na’abba in their time were bribed and they conceded to the onshore/offshore deceit. This case was taken to Supreme Court and the court ruled against it, despite that our lawmakers did not do anything. Today, what Bayelsa State is collecting with just about 3 million people triple what Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa and Katsina States 10 times.”

He said that legislators of Northern extraction in the federal legislature must challenge and change this situation in view of the fact that the Supreme Court has ruled against it. If they cannot do it, he warned, they should all come back home.

Bisi Akande lacks respect for elders – Afenifere

By DAYO JOHNSON

AKURE—THE pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, weekend, defended its leaders on the allegation levelled at them by the National Chairman of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Chief Bisi Akande, describing it as regrettable.

General Secretary of the group, Chief Seinde Arogbofa, who spoke in Akure, said Akande’s action “smacks of disrespect for elders, which is a core Yoruba culture.”

According to him, “the decision to support the second term bid of Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State which drew the ire of Akande and his ilk was taken in the best interest of Yoruba and not because of inducement from any quarter.”

He, therefore, described Akande’s statement as regrettable and an insult to his elders.

Arogbofa said: “I do not expect Chief Akande, a former state governor and once a jolly good Afenifere brother, to have gone to town to call his senior brothers unprintable names.

“I expect that even if his public relations officer went out of his way to insult and be rude, he should have called him to order.”

The group, therefore, accused Akande of denigrating the leaders of the group by his statement on their support for Gov. Mimiko second-term ambition.

He said: “One wonders why an elderly man like him should always resort to venom and bitterness in times of crisis, especially at this late hours of his life.

“We wonder what legacy he is leaving behind and what time he has left to redeem himself and have a change of heart.

“Where is the Omoluabi thing they profess they are, when they go out of their way to pour abuses and insults on their elders and impugn the integrity of their superiors?

“In so far as those of us in core Afenifere are concerned, our voice cannot be bought. Our stand cannot be compromised or negotiated. We are on the side of history and are mindful of tomorrow and aware that the hostility of today can tomorrow give way to mutual understanding.

“How can someone in his right mind say that Chiefs Fasoranti, O. Ajayi, Ayo Adebanjo and Olu Falae, are political jobbers and beggars and that we took money from Mimiko before we supported his second term bid?

“Chief Fasoranti runs one of the best Private Secondary Schools in Ondo State and one of the best Nursery and Primary School and has on his pay role well over 100 people.

“Both Chief Ajayi and Chief Adebanjo run some of the best legal firms in the country while Chief Falae is more than 90 percent a full time farmer employing well over 100 people in his farm.

“Apart from this, each of them is blessed with children who can take full care of them.

“Apart from Lagos governor who has performed to the satisfaction of the elders, it is only Mimiko that has done creditable well among the committee of governors in the southwest geo-political group,” Arogbofa said.
