Dis Guy: I think it will be more likely as a case of him not wanting to soil his reputation, doubt GEJ will force him to resign there are several other barefaced cases that Jonathan hasnt had a say in, i mean this is perhaps this govts chance of direct impact on the lives of nigerians. this case is not even anywhere near a corruption cases-conflict of interest that wont shake off this prof.
might be true even though i still find it hard to believe ie to prevent soiling his name knowing the average nigerian.however it is either this or there is a genuine threat to his life.this is nigeria.

Dis Guy: A gale of disquiet yesterday greeted an exclusive report by BusinessDay, that power minister, Bart Nnaji has a direct interest in a consortium that bidded for the Afam power plant, one of the generating plants put up for privatisation by the Federal Government.

The Afam plant is widely believed to be lucrative with its installed capacity of 776 megawatts (MW), comprising of 18 gas turbines, for which the Federal Government had just approved N500 million rehabilitation.

i read this 2 days ago on businessday

Nnaji's link with Afam plant
hmm do you think that might be the reason?i ask this because i do not think i have ever hear of a minister resigning because he has been fingered in corruption.if that is the case did gej force him to resign?if gej forced him to resign what does that say about the clamour that gej is not fighting corruption?

ABEOKUTA- A middle-aged man identified as Pastor Michael Oyewole was paraded along his accomplice, Matthew Akiode for being in possesion of a human skull allegedly exhumed in a grave on a land at Sabo in Abeokuta North local government area of Ogun state on Tuesday.

The pastor,32,who claimed to be a pastor at Ona-Ara mimo Cherubim and Sheraphim at Olomore few kilometres to the crime scene in Abeokuta was accused of inducing Akiode of committing the crime.

Speaking with newsmen, Akiode, who confessed to the crime, however attributed his action to the economic situation in the country.

He said” I used to work on his (pastor) site but he said I will make more money if I can get him human skull, so I felt it was an easy way of making money that was why I did it.

“I am surprised his denying all of this when he was the actual person that thought me how to go about it, “he claimed.

But when the pastor was however asked about his involvement in the crime, Pastor Oyewole denied that he ever sent Akiode to perpetrate the act.

He said “I am man of God and pastor at Irewole Cherubim and Seraphim Church, car wash area.

“I heal people with God’s name and not with human skull, his just telling lies and I don’t know what I have done to him Only God can save me now, “he said.

While parading the suspects at the police command Headquarters at Eleweran in Abeokuta yesterday, the police Commissioner, Ikemefuna Okoye, said that the accused persons committed the offence at about 12 a. m while digging the foundation of a building.

According to Okoye,at about 12 00 am hour, we got information about somebody who was digging a grave and we swung into action.

“He never knew that eagle eyes were watching him in the process of removing the corpse.

“We apprehended him immediately he severed the head from the body and he told us that it was one Pastor Oyewole that sent him, “ he said.

Okoye however said that, the embattled pastor was arrested shortly after his partner in crime mentioned his name for encouraging him to commit the crime.

He said that both accused persons would be charged to court as soon as investigation into the matter was concluded.

The Commissioner, who assured members of the public to go about their normal business without fear, sought their cooperation towards effective policing of the state.

Lagos State governorship: 2015 Christian Agenda –2

By Dele Sobowale
“0803-347-4820

An elderly and wise man like you should not incite people in matter of religion in Lagos. Do not create crisis in Lagos. We Lagosians are peace loving people.

“We love peace as we abhor pusillanimity; but, not peace at any price”.

Douglas Jerrold, 1803- 1857 Australian writer.

(VANGUARD BOOK OF QUOTATIONS p 184.

I would have been a fool not to expect the sort of text quoted above. Like most shallow thinkers who want to defend discrimination by a group against another group, he hinges his argument on peace instead of justice because he is, of course, not a Christian. So he does not know where the shoe pinches. He is also not well educated on the struggles which brought Obama to the White House in the United States today. I was a part of that epic struggle, so I want to educate our “peace lover” in order to dispense with people like him who want to distract our attention from the demand for fairness by Christians.

Before that, however, let me quickly answer another query which might be leveled against me: why have you not tried to seek audience with the leaders of the “Progressive” movement in Lagos? The answer is: I have tried without success. And I have proof.

Now let us return to the education of the sender of the text message. When, after over two hundred years of discrimination against Black Americans, the late Dr Reverend Martin Luther King, Jnr, 1929-1968, in response to the cries of the black people started the Civil Rights movement, his white co-Baptist Pastors, “men of God”, were the first to denounce him for wanting to disturb the peace of the Southern States. With one of the greatest pamphlets ever penned by any man, titled WHY WE CAN’T WAIT, the great black American launched and led the struggle which ultimately resulted in an Obama President today. Our latter-day “peace lover”, if he was in America would have carpeted Reverend King for disturbing the peace of “peace loving” Americans, instead of praising him for fighting for equal opportunity. I know he is a Muslim; his attitude is not different from that of white racists in America who would have wanted King to keep quiet.

At any rate, he is too hasty in his response. Discrimination against Christians by so called Progressives is not the only topic on the agenda between now and 2015. Discrimination against women is also on the cards; so is the lack of reciprocity between Lagos State and the other Yoruba speaking states in the appointment of Commissioners and other top posts. No Lagos State indigene has ever been appointed Commissioner in Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti or Kwara since civilians took control. But, that is a fight for another day.

The evidence pointing to deliberate discrimination against Christians, within the Progressive camp is so overwhelming that only a liar will fail to acknowledge them. Let us start with the Action Group, AG. And on this history, let no carpet-bagger, atohunrinwa, whose forebears trekked to Lagos, without shoes like, young Goodluck Jonathan, attempt to tell me the story. By the grace of God, Epe Constituency was represented during the First Republic, by my eldest brother, flying the banner of the Action Group. Since then we have been in the Progressive camp; although I was never a member of any party. He and late Chief Bola Ige entered and finished at Ibadan Grammar School on the same dates; joined the AG, on the same day and remained in the Progressive movement until death. Those who were climbing kolanut trees, wherever, in the 1950s should stay out of this. Baba Awolowo himself did not discriminate on the basis of religion and the AG was well regulated to ensure that candidates for elective offices did not emerge from nowhere to claim tickets for constituencies where they were not known for years and never were the selections so overwhelmingly tilted in favour of any group…..

Bring it to Lagos, i just noticed most of Lagos State Governors and Gubernatorial Candidates are muslims and Tinubu has taken it farther with his ACN winning all the states for muslims,
While the Yoruba pastors are busy struggling to be VEEPEE under a Jihadist Buhari even asking , preaching and praying that Jonathan should Resign.

The only Christian Gubernatorial Candidate Funsho Williams was murdered by unknow persons also Bola ige another Christian Titan was murdered too as a minister, Apart from Mimiko the iroko is there really any Christian Governor in the south West possibily Ekiti state looks christian.

Lagos State governorship: 2015 Christian Agenda –1

By Dele Sobowale
“There is no inequality which those favoured don’t consider that it is based on merit”.

Anonymous equal rights activist.

The Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, should start now thinking of a Christian successor to Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, a Muslim, by religion, for 2015. Otherwise Christians should spend the next three and a half years, before the April 2015 elections, searching for another political party in which they will no longer be treated as second class members.

The conclusion, which also represents the battle line, if it comes to that, has been stated up-front before the overwhelming evidence for this demand for a fair deal for Christians in Lagos state is presented in order to avoid any misunderstanding on the issue.

The “Progressives” in Lagos state have for too long discriminated against Christians in selections for public office despite the fact that Lagos is at least 50% Christian. The time for redress has come. Not only because it is just but because many Christians have now come to realize that their votes have been taken for granted for too long from Action Group, AG, through Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN, to Social Democratic Party, SDP, Alliance for Democracy, AD, and now, Action Party of Nigeria, ACN the progressives have not once fielded a Christian for the post of governor.

Only the military and the “conservatives” have demonstrated the sense of fairness which the “Progressives” obviously lack to field Christians. By contrast, under “Progressives” the powerless post of Deputy Governor has been reserved for us – second class citizens – and in the last twelve years, it has been made clear to us that the occupant of the post is at best an irritant to the governor or at worst regarded as an enemy in the camp.

With the exception of Rafiu Jafojo, a Muslim Deputy Governor serving under Jakande, a Muslim Governor, no Christian Deputy had been allowed to serve a second term with the governor – for reasons best known to our “masters” in the “Progressive” parties named above.

That is an incontrovertible fact which none can deny. And let nobody be foolish enough to write to me and state that the party chose the best candidate each and every time. That will only infuriate Christians more and will be fully answered in the strongest language possible.

However, before proceeding let me clear some points which boot-lickers will want to raise. First, I have no political ambition; at least not yet. Second, nobody should attempt to read into this write-up an anti-Muslim declaration because that will be false. Like most Lagosians, on both sides of my family, there are Muslims and Christians – almost equally divided. I am also the grandson of an Alhaji and an Alhaja.

Third, the matter of discrimination against Christians, not only in the selection of candidates for governor but other elective posts, as well as appointments, in Lagos State, was first brought to my notice in January of this year by a group wanting to make an issue out of it before the April elections and asking me to join the struggle. I resisted for two reasons.

One, I thought the timing was inappropriate because long term readers of this column would recall my campaign against PDP. To attack ACN would have amounted to aiding PDP in its quest to “capture” Lagos ; and that was unacceptable. Cutting several noses to spite somebody’s face is not my style.

Two, Governor Fashola had done such a good, not yet great, job in Lagos, I strongly believe he deserved a second term to finish most of what he started – granted every governor, even if he serves ten terms, will still leave behind several unfinished tasks and projects.

So, I resisted the temptation to fight one of the greatest injustices in our country today in January 2011. Now I can wait no longer for reasons best known to some of the leaders of the ACN. I wont say more than that.

One final point before I present the case. This is not a partisan matter; in 2015, any party which fails to give Christians a fair deal, not only in the selection of governorship candidate, but other offices as well, will face a massive block vote against it. That is not a threat; it is a promise which Christians have three and a half years to deliver. Enough, simply, is enough…

Deji Badamosi
By Ben Ezeamalu

Multiple award winning TV journalist, and one of the nation’s most talented broadcast journalists, Deji Bademosi, has resigned his appointment with Channels Television over what sources described as “irreconcilable differences” with the Chairman of the station, John Momoh.

Mr. Bademosi, who was Head of the television’s Political Desk, tweeted on Friday that he had quit his position at the station.

“My time with Channels Television has now ended. Looking to new challenges,” Mr. Bademosi, a Mass Communication graduate from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, tweeted on Friday evening.

Both Mr. Bademosi and CHANNELS are reluctant to speak on the resignation of a reporter who won several laurels for self and station.

When contacted on the phone Saturday, Mr. Bademosi, who was also Channels TV’s Head of Reportorial Team, said he’d rather not talk about the matter.

“I can only confirm that I resigned on Friday,” he said. “I don’t want to say anything more because I remain grateful to CHANNELS for providing me the platform to showcase my skills.”

Mr. Momoh too confirmed the reporter’s departure. ”What’s wrong with someone resigning? Mr. Momoh told PREMIUM TIMES. “He’s tired of working here and has gone on to something else. It’s okay.”

Sources, however, say that the relationship between Mr. Bademosi, who had spent almost a decade at the organization, and Mr. Momoh has strained lately.

It was gathered that the last straw was when the management issued a directive, earlier in the week, that editors must get approval from Mr. Momoh, before assigning reporters to any assignment.

“The management ruled that editors must contact the chairman wherever he is in the world before assigning reporters to any assignment,” a highly placed official told PREMIUM TIMES Saturday.

“Things haven’t been rosy between him and the Channels management,” another source said.

"Before then, what led to the memo was a clash between the chairman and Deji.

“Deji had assigned a reporter to go and cover a PDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) press conference in Ogun State,” the source added.

The press briefing was organized by the Bayo Dayo faction of the PDP, who are at loggerheads with the group led by former president Olusegun Obasanjo.

“While at the assignment, the personal assistant to the chairman called the reporter and asked him to leave the assignment and return to the office.

“The reporter refused,” the source said.

However, after the story, which had been approved by Mr. Bademosi and the controller of news, had been lined up in the bulletin for broadcast; the chairman’s assistant showed up again.

“The PA said that the chairman directed that the tape of the assignment be handed over to him, but they (Mr. Bademosi and the controller of news) refused.

“The chairman then personally came down and ordered that the tape be given to him. He confiscated the tape.

“Deji said that he could not work in an environment where editors do not have powers and must get approval from the chairman before any event is covered,” said the source, who added that Mr. Momoh attends editorial meeting and talks to editors “like babies.”

Mr. Momoh declined to comment on his directive that editors must seek his approval before detailing reporters to cover events.

“I think you should contact the director of news on that,” he said. ”I am the chairman of the company. I think you need to talk to the controller of news on that.”

But when one of the station’s two controller of news, Ambrose Okoh, was contacted, he denied knowledge of Mr. Bademosi’s resignation and the controversial directive by Mr. Momoh.

“I don’t have details of what you are talking about,” he said. “Come to the office on Monday so we can talk about it.”

Before his resignation, Mr. Bademosi anchored one of the most popular programmes on the station, ‘Politics Today’.

On-shore/off-shore controversy: North won’t be intimidated, says Niger governor

The North appears set for a long drawn battle for the review of the controversial on-shore/off-shore oil revenue with the Chairman of Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF), Dr. Babangida Aliyu, declaring yesterday that contrary to the view in some quarters, the issue is far from settled.

He also said no section of the country can blackmail or intimidate northern governors over their position on the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) and opposition to state police.

But Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of the oil producing Delta State said at a separate forum that the argument for a fairer allocation of federal oil revenue to the Niger Delta region has not even been won yet.

He said it is provocative when some people make “an enterprise of justifying the suffering in the Niger Delta.”

Both governors spoke 72 hours after the Presidency alleged an “attempt by some politicians to heat up the polity by seeking to reopen fresh conflict and controversy over the on-shore/off-shore abrogation law, which was enacted by the National Assembly in 2004.”

Receiving traditional rulers who paid him Sallah homage in Minna, Governor Aliyu pointed out that if Nigerians can freely discuss the amendment of the Constitution, which is the supreme law guiding of the country, then nothing should stop them from dialoguing on the issue of on-shore/off-shore oil revenue.

This, according to him, is the right way to go with a view to satisfying every part of the country.

He said: ‘’In the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), we noticed that there are many things that will affect our people and we need to discuss it and we need to understand how to approach our members of the national and state assemblies when issues like that come up. We need to discuss it so that the interest of our people who elected us will be protected. Nobody can intimidate us.’’

He said a committee had already been set up by the NSGF to collate Northerners’views on the PIB to guide the governors in taking a final decision.

On state police, he said the Northern governors’ opposition to it remained unchanged “until such a time a superior argument is advanced for the establishment of state-controlled police.”

He added: ‘’We will not be intimidated. If for any reason a superior argument comes forward, I believe we will be able to change our position. But at the moment, we do not see why it should happen that way because we know how, even in those days, the regional police were used to really stop other people from enjoying their fundamental rights.’’

But at a lecture in Asaba, Governor Uduaghan insisted that the cry for resource control by the people of the Niger Delta would never die, because, as he put it, has become “a political term from the efforts of Niger Delta peoples to get a fairer share of their God-given resources and more say in their own affairs in relation to the rest of Nigeria.”

Continuing, he said: “Resource control in that sense, therefore, has become a rallying cry for the long-suffering peoples of the Niger Delta region and understandably subject to various interpretations, depending on the individual’s stand in the country’s often fractious socio-political and economic debates.

“If the demand for resource control has remained trenchant, it is simply because our peoples have for long lived with the stark evidence of a mindless exploitation of the oil resources in their land. “They have lived with the despoliation and degradation of their environments without concomitant benefits to them as a people and to their communities where these resources are.

“As it eventually happened, the wheel turned and they found their voices and are demanding for justice and for their rights, much to the shock of those who want the exploitation to continue unchallenged.

“Surprisingly, some have made an enterprise of justifying the suffering in the Niger Delta in a provocative manner that tends to take the peaceful nature of our peoples for granted. Thankfully, our people have ignored them as we continue the search for justice in the matter.

“The Nigerian economy has largely depended (85 per cent) on earnings from crude oil sales. On the strength of this single point, it is easy to see the fundamental importance of the Niger Delta region to the Nigerian economy and its oil to global energy resource. Sadly, that importance does not reflect on the treatment the region gets from the federation.”

He said people tend to forget what becomes of the Niger Delta “when oil and gas resources finish, as they must one day.”

Gov. Uduaghan said: ” There are two cardinal points, I envisage in this. One, get the most you can from oil now as you transform to a post-oil era, because like it or not, that era must come. Two, develop other sources of revenue and diversify your economy to optimise available options or create them.”

He described the agitation for more revenue allocation to the oil producing states as “ a progressive issue on the national agenda.”

He said the resources required for a total revamp of the Niger Delta region are “enormous, far more than the present 13 per cent derivation can ever address.

“The rest of the federation must do what is right to the Niger Delta region. We must go back to what served us well at the very beginning of this nation. There must be fiscal federalism. People must benefit from what they produce. No one is by this saying that the peoples of this federation do not have a responsibility to one another. We must remain our brothers’ keepers.”

The Presidency in a statement on Wednesday said there is no need for the fresh controversy at this point in time.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media, Dr.Reuben Abati, who signed the statement, said: “The Presidency views with grave concern the current attempt by some politicians to heat up the polity by seeking to reopen fresh conflict and controversy over the onshore/offshore abrogation law which was enacted by the National Assembly in 2004.

By Samuel Oyadongha, Yenagoa

The Ibenanowei (paramount) ruler of Okordia clan in Yenagoa local government area of Bayelsa State, HRM, Chief Richard Seiba has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

Vanguard gathered that the monarch’s Ikarama-Okordia country home residence was violated at about 2am by the unknown gunmen who whisked him away.

As at press time, the whereabouts of the monarch was unknown while his kidnappers were yet to establish contact with his family.

Though the motive for the abduction of the monarch, aged 70, viewed by many as sacrilegious could not be ascertained but informed sources told our correspondent that the kidnappers may have carried out the action for monetary reason.

It was learnt that the kidnappers may have launched the attack through the river (Taylor creek) and escape with their victim through same with a view to avoiding the security check at the Zarama and Biseni exit if they had used the community road linking the East-West road to get away.

According to family sources, the gunmen broke into his apartment through a window by destroying the burglary.

The natives, it was further learnt could not sleep again when the news of the abduction of the monarch spread around the community.

“We are still in the dark as to the motive for his abduction and we don’t know is condition as we have not been able to establish contact with him.

We are appealing to the kidnappers to kindly release the old man. We are also calling on the security agencies and the state governemnt to intervene in the matter,” said a family source who described him as a peaceful and caring second class traditional ruler.

Contacted, the police public relations officer, Mr. Fidelis Odunwa (DSP) said he was not aware of the incident and pleaded for time, promising to get back to our correspondent

Taraba and Adamawa states could have made a killing from tourism and agriculture (tea, horticulture, etc), and employed many jobless youths up north in the process; these bokites and their sponsors have shot themselves in the foot with their 'tunnel vision' of just focusing on political power at the centre and religious extremism.
well different states in the country are not being 'forced' to generate their own revenue.

Seven firms out of the 25 original bidders have scaled the technical evaluation hurdle to qualify for the financial bids process under the federal government privatization programmes of the five power generation plants across the country.

The successful firms who were allowed to do multiple bidding, will however not be allowed to win more than one of the bids and even if they do, they will eventually be allowed to settle for one as the rules do not allow for a winner to take charge of more than one firm.

Atedo Peterside, member of the National Council on Privatization, NCP stated this Friday while speaking to newsmen after the NCP meeting presided over by Vice President Namadi Sambo, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Phoenix Electricity, Transcorp and Ampiron Power Distribution Limited were listed as successful bidders who scaled the technical evaluation hurdles for the Ughelli Power Plant.

"For Ughelli Power Plant, we have the following bidders who attained the pass mark of 750: Phoenix Electricity, Transcorp, and Ampiron Power Distribution Limited. They are the ones that will proceed to the financial bid opening".

Two bidders scaled the hurdles for the Sapele Power Plant. They include; CMEC Energy and GPN Nestoil Power Services Limited.

The two bidders, he said attained the pass mark of 750 and above to qualify for the financial bid evaluation stage.

Ampiron Power Distribution Company also got the nod to proceed to the financial bid evaluation stage for the Gereku Power Plant.

This is just as Mainstream Energy Solution Limited was announced as the preferred for the Kainji Power Plant, while Shiroro Power Plant has North South Power Company Limited as the preferred bidder to proceed to the financial bid stage.

"They will proceed to financial bid opening but they will have to make some submissions, including security before the financial bidding".

NCP said it will notify the successful companies on the requirement of what they have to put up as regards security before coming for the financial bid opening.

The financial bid opening has been scheduled for the 25th of September to give them enough time to prepare for the next stage.

"Some of them may have to travel here and in accordance with the tradition of BPE and in the spirit of transparency, the financial bid opening will be televised".

He further assured that the final bid opening will be televised live on national stations to buttress the transparent process that has trailed the exercise from the beginning.

Peterside disclosed that among the criteria were used to evaluate the firms include technical expertise, financial strength.

1. Do you agree with him?

2. Can you give us your own account of INDIGENIZATION POLICY?

3. How does this policy shape/affect Nigeria's economic landscape?

I intends to open a debate on this little known event among today's youth that had far-reaching consequence(s). It is so far-reaching that it continues to resonate up till this day.

I invite intellectuals, historians, economists to debate on this topic without rancor or emotions.

I plead with mudslingers to read and move on.
you honestly think that you will get honest debate on this issue in nairaland/are you new here?i laugh.
